John Arnberg

John Leslie Arnberg died accidentally Friday, January 7, while on his boat in Shasta Lake, the place he loved the best.

John will be remembered as a loving husband, father, friend, racecar driver and pilot.

He will be sorely missed.

John was born to George Ross and Alys McAllister Arnberg September 7, 1946 in Gilroy, California.

He moved to Yreka when he was five years old and graduated from Yreka High School.

He returned to Yreka after a tour in Vietnam with the Air Force and began a thirty-five year aviation career working at Montague airport for his uncle, Fred Arnberg. John married Sharon Allen in 1970.

They had two children, Aimee Kristine and Wade Eugene, and later divorced.

During 1971 he began a twenty-nine year racing career that was his passion.

John's familiar number 38 was well known on the west coast stock car circuit.

During 1980 John began a twenty-five year career as corporate pilot for Nor-Cal Products.

In 1985 he married Connie Austin and they had a daughter Marilynn Noel.

They later divorced. In 2003 he married the light of his life, Sandi Christiansen.

They enjoyed boating together and were planning retirement in Page, Arizona.

He is survived by his wife, Sandi; brother, Chuck; nephew Randy; his son Wade and his wife, Donna; his daughter Aimee and her husband Bucky Lantz and their four children, Tre, Virusur, Hayz, Tymber; his daughter Marilynn; step-daughter Jackie Rock and her husband Mike and their daughter Lily; step-son Kasey Christiansen and his wife, Heather and their children Kaitlin and Jocalyn; step-son and good friend Tony Christiansen; and step-daughter Crystal Hardin and her husband Josh and their daughter Hannah. John was preceded in death by his mother, Alys, father Ross, and brother Bruce.

There will be a memorial luncheon at Yreka Elk's Lodge, Miner and Oregon Streets, from noon until 3 p.m. on Thursday, January 13, for those who would like to celebrate John's life.

Reese C. Hemingway

Reese C. Hemingway, 86, of Phoenix, died Friday (Jan. 7, 2005).

Inurnment will be in Rock Point cemetery in Gold Hill.

No services will be held.

Mr. Hemingway had lived in the Rogue Valley since 1959, moving here from Oakland, IL.

He was in construction and helped build Roxy Ann Lanes.

He was a member of the local Bowling Association.

Survivors include: his wife, Evelyn H.; a daughter, Judy Casad of Talent; a son, Dennis of Grants Pass; four sisters; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchidren. He was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Hemingway.

Memorial contributions may be made to the the American Cancer Society, 31 W. Sixth St., Medford, OR 97501.

Arrangements: Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.

William X. Ross

A memorial service for William X. Ross will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan 15, 2005 at the Shady Cove Masonic Lodge.

Private inurnment will be at Eagle Point National cemetery.

Mr. Ross, 80, of White City, died Saturday (Jan. 8, 2005) at his home.

He was born on Oct. 2, 1924 in Alderson, OK.

In 1958, in Lincoln Acres, CA, he married Carolyn Myrl Horning who survives.

Bill served in the Navy during WW II and the Korean war.

He retired in 1982 from National Steel and Shipbuilding in San Diego, CA where he worked for 32 years.

Bill was a member of the Masonic Lodge.

In addition to his wife, Carolyn, survivors include a daughter, Sharon Erwin; a son, Steven; and two grandchildren, Christopher and Steven.

Johnnie Eugene Dyer

Johnnie Eugene Dyer, 82, of Medford, died Monday (Jan. 10, 2005) at his home. Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

Ruth 'GG' DeLap

Ruth "GG" DeLap, 81, of Central Point, died Monday (Jan. 10, 2005) at her home. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Arrangements: Perl Funeral Home, Medford.

Uvia Mead

Uvia Mead, 62, died Tuesday (Jan. 11, 2005 in Medford. Arrangements: Perl Funeral Home, Medford.

Dale Lee Baker

Dale Lee Baker born on November 12, 1952.

He went home to Jesus Christ, Our Lord and Savior on December 27, 2004.

Celebration of Life
Dale was born in Bremerton, WA.; then moved to Medford.

He was one of the first to attend the first grade at Wilson Elementary School.

He lived most of his life in Medford until he joined the Army.

In the Army he was a paratrooper. Served in Vietnam.

Worked in construction most of his life.

He was also a member of the River Valley Assembly of God in Eugene, OR.

Survivors: Mother Guadalupe Baty (Bay-tee); Step-father Arther Baty of Medford; Father Junior E. Baker; Step-mother Wanda Baker of Beaumont, CA; two brothers Darrell Baker and John Baker of Portland, OR; two sisters Lorrie Baker of Medford, OR. and Kendra Valdez of Warrenton, OR; two daughters Samantha Baker Of Victorville, CA and Sara Leann Baker of Springfield, OR.

A Memorial service will be held at the Veterans Memorial cemetery in Eagle Point on Friday, January 14, 2005.

Officiating: Rory Wold, Elder.

Reception will follow at the Moose Lodge in Shady Cove.

In leiu of flowers please donate to the Diabetes Foundation.

Jane Marie Swan

A memorial service for Jane Marie Swan will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 14, at the Medford Congregational Church.

Rev. Jim Martin will officiate.

Mrs. Swan, 81 of Medford died Tuesday (Jan. 11, 2005) at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to RVMC Foundation Rebuild Fund, 2600 Siskiyou Blvd. Suite No. 100, Medford, OR 97504.

She was born on June 26, 1923 in Bristol, CT to Kenneth and Marie Beckwith.

On June 26, 1944 in Savannah, GA she married Richard Swan who preceded her in death.

They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1957 from Fort Collins, CO.

Mrs. Swan attended Bristol High School and secretarial school in Washington, D.C.

She was a homemaker.

Mrs. Swan enjoyed knitting, skiing, golfing, tennis, church, volunteering for RVMC Auxiliary, and reading.

Survivors include; her children, David Swan of Ashland, and Barbara Rund of Medford; a sister, Gay Capps of Camano Island, WA; a brother, Kenneth "Jack" Beckwith of Middlebury, VT; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Perl Funeral Home, Medford.

Martin J. Gates

Martin J. Gates, 87, of Medford died Sunday (January 9, 2005) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

A private graveside service will be held by the family. Friends are invited to attend a celebration of life and remembrance on Friday, January 14th at 5:30 p.m. at the Colony Far East.

Martin was born on July 23, 1917 in Berwyn, IL to Martin, Sr. and Madge Gates.

He spent his childhood in Berwyn and LaGrange Park where he attended local schools, participated in the Boy Scouts and played ice hockey.

After college, Martin worked for Lockheed in Chicago, NY, and LA restoring crashed airliners prior to, and during WWII.

On February 23, 1946 in Medford, he married Marjorie Paulsen, who preceded him in death.

Martin spent much of his adult life as a businessman in Central Point.

He was a long-time partner with Don Paulsen, opening the Paulsen & Gates Thrift Market in 1947, and Paulsen & Gates Appliance in 1963, both in Central Point.

His retirement years were filled doing the things he loved; gardening, working in his woodshop, feeding the birds at his home, going to Colony Far East and traveling with family and friends to Lake Tahoe, Honolulu and Seven Feathers.

Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Rita & David Hyatt of Central Point; granddaughter, Carrie Hanson of Central Point; grandson Chad Hyatt of Okinawa, Japan; niece, Beth Bishop of Roseburg; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his sister Gwendolyn.

For most he will be remembered as a hardworking, independent man who despite his rough exterior cherished his family and friends.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Boy Scouts of America, 3039 Hanley Road, Central Point, OR.

Sharon L. Rametes

Sharon L. Rametes, 53, of Jacksonville, died on Tuesday, January 11, 2005 at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

A graveside service is planned for 10 a.m. Friday, January 14, 2005 at the Eagle Point National cemetery.

Sharon was born to Arston L. Reinheardt and Edith Carioto on June 21, 1951 in Tampa Bay, FL.

On June 25, 1976, she married Albert E. Rametes in Reno, NV, who survives.

After moving to Jacksonville in 1976, Sharon worked as a dietician.

She enjoyed knitting and reading.

Sharon is survived by her sons Chad L. Reinheardt, Jeremy Rametes and Cody Rametes; daughter Brandy Rametes; sisters Mary T. Lasko, Twila A. Austin and Geneva L. Reinheardt-Ribich; brothers Larry E. Reinheardt, Alan W. Reinheardt, Frederick H. Reinheardt and Carr L. Reinheardt; and one grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorial contrubions can be made to the American Cancer Society in the name of Sharon L. Rametes.
