A former Medford and Klamath Falls resident died of natural causes on March 31, 2005 in North Platte, Nebraska.

A celebration of his life and legacy will be held today Wednesday, April 6, 2005 at 1 p.m. at the Peace Memorial Presbyterian Church, 4431 S. 6th St. in Klamath Falls. Reverend Larry Bunnell, the pastor who married James and his wife Jessica on August 28, 1999, officiating. A graveside service followed at Eternal Hills with a reception at the home of Jim and Judy McClung, 5206 Barry Ave., Klamath Falls.

James was born April 28, 1976 in La Grande, OR to David and Pam (Nicely) Slaght. He spent his early childhood there and moved to Medford with his family in the eighth grade where he would meet his lifetime best friend, Tyler Akins. James attended North Medford High School where he graduated in 1994. While in high school he accepted the Lord into his life and was baptized. After high school, he attended Oregon Institute of Technology and received a BS in Mechanical Engineering in 2000 and a BS in Manufacturing Engineering in 2002. While attending OIT James was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity and would be introduced to his future wife by a mutual friend. James knew immediately that this was the woman he would share his life and family with and they were married shortly after meeting. James' work took their family to various places including Roseville, CA and most recently North Platte, NE, where he worked as the Lead Technical Director for General Electric. James approached every area of his life with a work ethic and morality that will forever be unmatched. He had a calmness and patience about him that brought peace to everyone fortunate enough to spend time with him. He was gentle and quiet by nature, but had an amazing sense of humor and a twinkle in his eyes that would shine on the faces of his children.

James had many hobbies including hunting and working on his 1981 CJ7 Jeep, but to really know James was to see him with his wife and children. James was the happiest and the closest to God when he was diapering, bathing, feeding, playing, and immersing himself in every detail concerning the care of his family. James nurtured his children with a tender and unconditional love and thrived on this daily work as though he knew he knew his life would be too short. It goes without saying that his three children were the most important things to him and he dedicated his life to their future.
