He was born in Santa Cruz, California, Ernie remained there for most of his life. As a young man, he served with the Department of Forestry, and the Army Reserve. He retired after twenty years with the County of Santa Cruz where he proudly worked as an automotive mechanic, keeping the Sheriff's department safely on the road. After retirement, Ernie moved with his beloved wife Beverly first to Paradise, California, to be near her father, and then later to Medford, Oregon to be close to his sons.

Ernie loved traveling, and made numerous travel trailer trips up and down the western United States visiting his sons in Oregon and exploring small coastal towns and State Parks, first with Beverly and later with his faithful cat Jamie. He and Beverly also made two extended trips to New Zealand, from which his father had emigrated after World War I.

Ernie very much enjoyed visiting with neighbors, chatting at the mailbox, discussing politics, cars, birds, and life in general.

He is survived by six children, fourteen grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, (and one loving cat, Jamie).

There is not enough we can say about the impact this gentle, principled, honorable man had on his family, friends and neighbors.
