Richard W. 'Bud' Pedley
Ruth Carrie Pedley

A celebration of the lives of Richard Wayne "Bud" Pedley (March 27, 1916 - June 17, 2004) and Ruth Carrie Peterson Pedley (April 9, 1919 - October 8, 2004) will be held at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Medford, on April 23, 2005 at 2 p.m. All who knew and loved them are welcome to attend the service.

The Pedleys were both born and raised in Bertrand, Nebraska. They were married in Portland, on March 12, 1946 and moved to Medford in 1950.

They are survived by a daughter, Cynthia Pedley Bailey and her husband, Gerald. They reside in Avon, Connecticut. The Baileys have two sons Lieutenant Michael Richard Bailey of Virginia Beach, VA, and Christopher Lee Bailey of Boston, MA; their son, Richard Joseph Pedley of Santa Clara, CA, also survives. Rick is married to Kathryn and they have two children, Kristen Elizabeth and Scott Richard.

Bud retired from JCF and enjoyed his vegetable garden and family. Ruth enjoyed volunteer work and was an Auxiliary member for a number of years at Rogue Valley Hospital and a member of Chapter CG, P.E.O. Both were active members of Westminster Presbyterian Church.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church or a charity of your choice.

Sister Olivette Ginet
(Sister M. Helene Rose) A Mass of Christian Burial was held in the chapel of the Provincial House at Marylhurst for Sister Olivette Ginet, who died April 1, 2005. She was 91.

She was born Dec. 26, 1913, in Jacksonville, the oldest of eight children of Joseph and Corrine Ginet. She attended St. Mary's Academy in Medford. She received her degree from Marylhurst College and her Master's from Seattle University. She made her profession as a Sister of the Holy Names in 1935.

Sister Ginet was a teacher, an editor and a bookkeeper. She retired in 1995, but continued to be of service to the Sisters with whom she lived.

She enjoyed playing cards, games, doing jigsaw puzzles and cooking.

Survivors include her sisters, Josephine Small and Sister Virginia Ginet, SNJM; and her brother Harvey Davis.

Vollmer Nunes Coelho
A Funeral Mass for Vollmer Nunes Coelho will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, 2005 at Shepherd of the Valley Catholic Church, 600 Beebe Road, Central Point.

Mr. Coelho, 86, of Gold Hill, died Thursday April 14, 2005, at his home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shepherd of the Valley Catholic Church, 600 Beebe Road, Central Point, OR 97502.

Mr. Coelho was born on July 24, 1918 in Arroyo Grande, CA to Manuel Nunes Coelho and Arminda Gonsalves-Dias Coelho. On April 18, 1942 in Pismo Beach, CA he married Rose Jean, who survives. They moved to the the Rogue Valley from Santa Maria, CA three years ago.

He worked in construction.

Mr. Coelho was a member of Shepherd of Valley Catholic Church, Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus and Franciscans.

In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Victor Coelho of Hanford, CA; two daughters, Jeanette Alderman of Florence, and Kathryn Fontes of Gold Hill; a sister Cecilla Gray, of Lockwood, CA; brothers, Alcedes Coelho of Arroyo Grande, CA and John Coelho of Santa Maria, CA; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Central Point Chapel.

Walter Zitney Jr.

The memorial service for Walter Zitney Jr. will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Shepherd of the Valley Catholic Church in Central Point.

Mr. Zitney, 60, of Medford, died Sunday (Aug. 8, 1999) in Evergreen, Colo.

He was born June 11, 1939, in Uniontown, Pa. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1995.

Mr. Zitney served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

He enjoyed collecting coins and jewelry, cooking and golf.

Survivors include a daughter, Jennifer Boals, Medford; two stepdaughters, Julie Geselle, Benicia, Calif., and Marni Ortiz, Oakley, Calif.; his mother, Ruth Zitney, Uniontown; a sister, Dolores Harshman, Uniontown; one grandchild; and three step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Lance Michael.

Arrangements: Aspen Mortuary, Lakewood, Colo.

Bobby Lee Mitchell

The graveside service for Bobby Lee Mitchell will be at 11 a.m. today in Eternal Hills in Klamath Falls. Mike Voight will officiate.

Mr. Mitchell, 74, of Phoenix, died Tuesday (Aug. 10, 1999) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

Memorial contributions may be made to Rogue Valley Medical Center Foundation, Hospice, 691 Murphy Road, Suite 236, Medford, OR 97504, or to the American Heart Association, 1425 N.E. Irving, Suite 100, Portland, OR 97232.

He was born Jan. 14, 1925, in Graysonia, Ark., a son of Charlie and Mary Mitchell.

On Feb. 19, 1951, in Klamath Falls, he married Shirley J. Adams Lockwood, who survives. He lived in Klamath County for 50 years before moving to the Rogue Valley in 1994.

Mr. Mitchell worked in building and remodeling.

He served in the Army during World War II.

Mr. Mitchell enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling.

Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three sons, Richard Lockwood, Medford, Robert W. Mitchell, Rock Springs, Wyo., and Lonnie Mitchell, Thompson Falls, Mont.; two daughters, Marcia Rohrbaugh, Klamath Falls, and Shirley Schaurman, Cape Coral, Fla.; a brother, Dewitt Mitchell, White City; a sister, Bonnie E. Cray, Sparks, Nev.; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Lonnie, Jessie, and Alton; and a sister, Ima Sue.

Franklin Michael Fuller
July 4, 1949 - March 1, 2005

Michael was raised in Encino, CA by his parents Thomas and Helen Fuller.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. After his time in the service, he moved to the Applegate Valley, and except for a short time living in Alaska, he continued living in the Applegate Valley for the next 20 years, where he met and married Doreen James in 1988. They had two children together and in 1992 moved to Central Point.

Michael was a logger and worked on the for the Bureau of Land Management and worked on the Pacific Crest Trail. He also then worked for the Parks Department.

He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He loved the desert, the ocean and being outdoors, but his greatest joy was being with his children.

He is survived by his wife, Doreen; children, Aubry, Mitchell, Meagan and Amy; a sister Patti; a nephew, Matt; and grandchildren, Shali May, John Jr., and Ashley; and nine cousins.

A memorial service will be held at Eagle Point National cemetery at 3 p.m. Friday, April 22, 2005. A picnic will follow at Touvelle State Park.

Shirley Griffith
Shirley Ann Griffith went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 16. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, April 21, 2005, at Medford First Nazarene on McAndrews Road, Medford.

Shirley was born on December 16th, 1929 in Medford Oregon to Mary and Carl Foster. Her deep attachment to Medford came not only by birth, but also by lineage. Her grandparents were one of the pioneer families who came in the latter 1800s to settle our beautiful valley. In the summer of 1951, a college student named Roland Griffith meant to visit and pass through the valley but the vivacious Oregon beauty captured his attention. They were married on September 1, 1951. After graduation Roland became a teacher and principal in Medford and Central Point and Shirley the ultimate homemaker.

From their union came two sons and two daughters. Bob Griffith of Seattle, Randy Griffith and his wife Connie of Klamath Falls, Sue Basilicato and her husband Gerry, and Lori Asker and her husband Steve. Five grandchildren also survive Shirley. Brother Dick Foster and sister Laura Tipton preceded her in death.

Shirley loved people of all ages. She taught Sunday School for many years and enjoyed gardening, reading, sewing and cooking wonderful meals for her family and friends. Shirley's life was characterized by loving and serving the Lord Jesus Christ through loving others in the community and in the church.

She will be greatly missed by all that knew her.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Church of the Nazerene Compassionate Ministries.

Richard Bligh Gannaway
Richard Bligh Gannaway, 78, of Shady Cove, died Saturday (April 16, 2005). Arrangements: Hillcrest Memorial Park & Mortuary, Medford.

Viola Green
Viola Green, 96, of Medford, died Friday (April 15, 2005) at her home. Arrangements: Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives, Medford.

Wiiliam Curtis Cope
William Curtis Cope, 47, of Williams, died Wednesday (April 13, 2005) in New Mexico. Arrangements will be announced at a later date.

Lawrence Varin
Oct. 14, 1909 - March 5, 2005

Lawrence Varin, 95, of Medford, died peacefully on March 5, 2005. A memorial service was held with family and a few close friends on March 12, 2005 at the Perl Funeral Home with a grave site service afterward.

Larry, as he was known to most, was born on October 14, 1909 on the Athabasca River in northern Alberta, Canada to Raymond. Estelle Varin and the family later settled in the small community of Plamondon on Lac La Biche. They moved to West Los Angeles, California when Larry was 12 year old. He graduated from University High School and later attended University of California-Southern Branch (known today as UCLA) studying aeronautical and mechanical engineering.

On October 14, 1936 he married the love of his life Fahn Stubbs. He served as an engineer for the Marine Corps during World War II working on several key projects. After the war ended he started VARMAC Manufacturing Company which became a leader in modern fishing tackle including the first hard chrome plated guides, fiberglass fishing rods and designed the standard hardwood reel seat for ocean fishing. He retired from the fishing tackle business and moved to the Los Virgenes Canyon area off of Malibu beach until 1958. He then moved his family to Weed, California; getting into cattle ranching and in 1960 moved to Sams Valley where he lived until recently on his beloved Valley's End Ranch.

He is survived by his wife Fahn of 69 years; daughter Valery Tarchione and her husband Rocky; son Dennis Varin; daughter Christine Beard and husband Mike; son Wesley Varin and wife Marsha; as well as seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

Not many have lived to see so many changes nor accomplished as much as a father, teacher, and friend. He will be missed by all.

Richard "Dick" Gannaway
A funeral for Richard "Dick" Bligh Gannaway will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 22, 2005 at the Scottish Rite Temple. Rev. Bill Hare of Upper Rogue United Methodist Church will officiate.

Mr. Gannaway, 78, of Shady Cove died Saturday (April 16, 2005) in Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to Eastern Star Cancer Research, Mazama Chapter No. 185, P.O. Box 390, Shady Cove, OR 97539.

He was born on April 1, 1927 in Oklahoma City, OK to H. "Stell" and Elizabeth Estelle Gannaway who preceded him in death. On Dec. 31, 1949 in Couer d'Alene, Idaho he married Eileen who survives. They moved to the Rogue Valley in 1959, and to Shady Cove in 1962.

Mr. Gannaway served in the U.S. Army during WWII.

He was a teacher, he taught music in West Linn, Talent and Shady Cove. He taught music and math in Trail.

Mr. Gannaway was a member of the Upper Rogue United Methodist Church. He was Past Master of the Cascade Masonic Lodge No. 208, was a Scottish Rite 32nd KCCH, and a Past Patron of the Eastern Star Mazama, in Shady Cove.

In addition to his wife, Eileen, survivors include a son, Jeffrey Earl Gannaway of Portland; daughters, Kathryn Lynn Geren of Sandy, and Constance Beth Bowman, of Rapid City, SD; and four grandchildren.

Arrangements: Hillcrest Memorial Park & Mortuary, Medford.

Richard Donald Berger
Richard Berger 83, beloved husband of Alice Zelina Berger and devoted Dad to Nancy, Todd and Kurt, passed away April 15, 2005 at home with his family.

Dick was born March 18, 1922 in Camden, New Jersey to Thomas and Marie Berger.

He joined the Navy in 1940 and served three years as a gunner's mate on the destroyer USS Barry. He was proud of being one of the first frogmen trained in underwater demolitions and served until the end of World War II in 1945. He married Alice Zelina Leatherman on January 28, 1956. They moved to Marin County, California in 1963. In 1976 he and his family moved to Eagle Point, Oregon. He retired from 3M in 1987.

Dick loved Southern Oregon and enjoyed fishing, rock climbing, hiking and the spectacular geology of the area. He was an accomplished artist specializing in stained glass mosaics and woodcarvings. His greatest joys were his ranch and his family.

He is survived by his wife; his grown children and their spouses, Nancy and Pat Mulcahy of Gold Hill, Todd and Annie Berger of Eugene and Kurt and Gina Berger of Trail; his brothers, Thomas and Eugene Berger of New Jersey; his grandchildren, Sean Mignerey, Kate Boone, Nicholas and Natasha Berger; and his great-grandchildren Jessica Mignerey and Skylar Boone.

A celebration of his life will be announced at a later date.
