Norman "Norm" Matheus
A memorial service for Norman "Norm" Matheus will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 16, 2005, at the Conger Morris Medford Chapel.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7:30 p.m. today, Friday, May 13, 2005 at Conger Morris, 715 W. Main Street, Medford.

Norm was called home to be with his Lord on May 7, 2005. His time here was much too short but, the time that he was here he touched many, many lives. Anyone that ever met Norm was enriched somehow in their own lives.

There never was a stranger in his life. He worked many years in retail. The last 14 years, he was manager of the shoe dept. with North Fred Meyer, never asking anything of his workers. To know he appreciated them, he would give gifts of a dinner, a money certificate out of his own pocket, just to say thanks, job well done.

Norm was born in Medford on March 17, 1956 to Leonard and Bea Matheus. He spent his pre-school days patroling the streets around 10th Street for Hippos in the trees. He moved to Sams Valley where he spent the remainder of his youth. First at Sams Valley Elementary, Scenic Jr. High and graduating from Crater High.

In 1978 he met the love of his life, Laura. On May 18, 1981 they married .

The most prized possessions were his children, Chandra and Jason. They were the light of his life.

Norm loved being at the ocean. He loved winning the prize for the best and most sea shells.

A dream came true for Norm when at the end of February, he took his family to Hawaii. He loved it there, and talked about how we could get back there to live. The other dream Norm had was being able to fly anything anywhere. It was fulfilled when he took two aeriel stunt glider flights on the ocean's edge. He said it was the closet he had come to heaven.

Survivors include his wife, Laura; his daughter and her fiance, Chandra Matheus and Matthew Grey; his son, Jason Matheus; his sister, Jan and brother-in-law Leo; nieces Lauri and Shelley and her husband Jake; nephews, Mark, Randy, Doug, Danny, Chris and his wife Deanna, and Don; great-nephews, Weylin, Dylan, Paul, Devin; many aunts and uncles. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Leonard and Bea; his mother-in-law, Phyllis, and nephew, Michael.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to A.A. and the Gospel Mission.

You are free now Norman Go- go soar in the clouds You are an angel now- Your pain is gone- no more You're free my darling We love you Dad!

"We little knew that morning that God was going to call your name. In life we loved you dearly; in death we do the same. It broke our hearts to lose you; you did not go alone, for part of us went with you, the day God called you home. You left us peaceful memories, your love is still our guide; and though we cannot see you, you are always at our side. Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same, but as God calls us one by one, the chain will link again." - Author unkown We love you mom and will miss you, but now you can finally enjoy the pain free, happy life that you've always deserved!
