Thomas "Tom" Emmens
Thomas "Tom" Alfred Emmens, 62, of Elmira (formerly of the Rogue Valley), died on May 7, 2005 of cancer. There will be a memorial gathering to scatter his ashes in June 2005, at Big Creek.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Oregon Historical Society or the Eugene Masonic cemetery.

He was born on May 18, 1942 in Medford to Robert and Justine (Miller) Emmens. The family left Medford and traveled to Bucharest, Romania, Arlington, VA, Salzburg Austria, Langley, Air Force Base in Virginia, Myrtle Beach, S.C., Tokyo, Japan, and New York City where he studied for his PhD. He moved to Eugene in 1958. On June 29, 2001 in Florence, he married Conni Loomis, who survives.

Mr. Emmens had two masters degrees in Political Science and Asian Studies, and he worked on his PhD at Columbia Univeristy in NY, NY and at the Univeristy of Oregon.

In the 1960s he worked for the Yellow Submarine Commune in Eugene making Granola. In the 1970s he was a truck driver for Springfield Creamery. For many years he worked as a tree planter for Hoedads, Rolling Rock, and Skookum. He was part owner of DS & T. When he wasn't tree planting he worked for Agripac. He also worked as a dispatcher for Skookum.

Tom was a member of the Oregon Historical Society, the Southern Oregon Historical Society, and Phi Beta Kappa.

He enjoyed photography, writing, reading, conservaton history, (in particular, Oregon history and the Ankeny family).

Survivors include his wife Conni Loomis; his mother, Justine Emmens of Medford; brother Michael of Medford; sister, Robin of Jacksonville; and a niece Amelia Emmens-Budd of Sitka, Alaska.

Wendelin Marie Wallace
Wendelin Marie Wallace passed away peacefully on May 12, 2005 at her home in Ashland.

She is survived by her partner, Ben van de Velde of Ashland; and her brother, Brian Wallace, of San Antonio, TX.

Wendy was born in Denver, CO and grew up in Midland, TX and Denver.

Twenty years ago she moved to the Pacific Northwest to pursue her career as an artist and craftsperson at Seward Park in Seattle where she worked in a variety of media including fiber, ceramics and visual representation. Wendy moved to Ashland ten years ago and concentrated on crafting unique jewelry using innovative materials and designs. She was an active member of the Lithia Artisans Market in Ashland.

On Sunday, May 15, 2005 at 4:30 p.m. Wendy's friends will gather in Lithia Park, above the upper duck pond, to honor her life and bid her farewell.

Dorothy Keller Curll
Dorothy Keller Curll, 94, of Grants Pass, died May 11, 2005 at her home. Arrangements are pending with Chapel Of The Valley - L.B. Hall Funeral Home, Grants Pass.

Evangelana N. Mighetto
Evangelana N. Mighetto, 94, of Rogue River, died Thursday, May 12, 2005 at her home. Arrangements are pending with Grants Pass Funeral Alternatives.

Thomas Suovanen
Thomas Suovanen, 51, of Gold Hill, died Tuesday, May 10, 2005 in Gold Hill. Arrangements handled by: Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives.

Valerie Hutchins
Valerie Hutchins, 60, of Rogue River died Wednesday, May 11, 2005 at her home. Arrangements are pending with Grants Pass Funeral Alternatives.

Antonina Glogowski
Antonina Glogowski was born in Krakow, Poland on June 14, 1922. She and her husband Anthony Glogowski came to America after WW II and lived in Oregon raising their five children.

Antonina taught her children how to appreciate the simple joys in life.

She loved gardening, camping and cooking. Bringing her culture to the family, Polish food was her specialty. A devoted Catholic, Antonina will reunite with her husband in heaven and will dance with the Angels.

Survivors include sons, John Glogowski and Michael Glogowski; daughters, Helen Moore, Julie Luchterhand, and Katharyne Kennedy; four grandchildren, Antonina, Michelle, Michael and Jason; and five great-grandchildren, Hanna, Chase, Megan, Ashlynn, Kailey.

A Rosary will be held at 8 a.m. Friday, May 27 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Medford. A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 27, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Inurnment will be at Siskiyou Memorial Park. A reception will be announced at the Church.

At the family's request, in lieu of flowers, please send contributions in her name to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Medford.

Arthur Martin
July 24, 1914 - May 5, 2005

A funeral for Arthur Martin was held Friday, May 13, 2005 at Hillcrest Memorial Chapel.

Mr. Martin, 90, of Medford died Thursday (May 5, 2005) in Ashland.

He was born on July 24, 1914 in South Dakota. Due to the sparsely populated area and the lack of wood for houses, he was born in a sod house. Later in life he joined a sod house club. He felt this membership was unique since not many were living that had that experience.

He was a long time residence of the Medford, Jacksonville area.

Mr. Martin served in the U.S. Army during WW II and was awarded the Bronze star, the good conduct medal and a combat infantry badge.

Survivors include his sister, Alpha Quinn of San Diego, CA; his nieces Maureen Quinn and Cheryl Porter and her husband Steve; and nephew, Gary Quinn and his wife Carol. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred.

He will be missed by his family, many good friends and neighbors.

Daniel "Dan" Roy Handy
Daniel "Dan" Roy Handy, 50, of Eagle Point, died Saturday (May 14, 2005) at his home.

He was born on Oct. 13, 1954 in Medford. He attended school in the Phoenix Public School District. He worked for Grange Co-op.

Dan felt most at peace in the mountains amongst nature. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, but the most precious thing to him was spending time with his son, Jonathon. They were best friends.

Survivors include his son, Jonathon Barrett Handy; his fiance Tricia Mickey; his step-daughter, Marilyn Terry; brother, Mark Aldrich; sisters, Lorena Lee and Tamela La Pointe; mother Irene Head; and father Jack Aldrich.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to any branch of the Wells Fargo Bank in the name of Jonathon Handy, Dan's only surviving son.

A potluck remembrance gathering will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, May 20, 2005, at the residence of his brother, Mark Aldrich, 1132 Woodrow Lane, Medford.

David Allan Smith
A graveside service for David Allan Smith will be at 3 p.m. today, Wednesday, May 18, at the Eagle Point National cemetery.

Mr. Smith, 55, of Medford died Friday (May 13, 2005) at his home.

He was born on Nov. 25, 1949 in Alameda, CA to Melvin and Bertha (Stevens) Smith. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1971 from Alameda, CA.

Mr. Smith served in the U.S. Air Force during the Viet Nam War.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, collecting sports cards and surfing the Internet.

Survivors include a son, Nathan Smith of Fortuna, CA; a sister, Pat Smith of Medford; a brother Don Smith of Roseburg, OR; and two grandchildren, Curtis and Tylor Smith. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Donald R. (Don) Dickinson
Donald R. (Don) Dickinson, 68, of Medford, Oregon went home to Jesus on May 11, 2005.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2005 at Hillcrest Memorial Park Chapel in Medford. Everyone is invited to share their remembrances of Don during the service. A reception will follow immediately at the Club House at San George Estates, 10 East South Stage Road, Medford.

Don was born November 18, 1936 in Asher, Oklahoma to Fred and Lizzie Dickinson. He was a long-time Oregon resident, and graduated from Elkton High School in 1955. He spent the next four years in the United States Navy. He moved to Roseburg, Oregon following his discharge, and there he met his wife-to-be, Marilyn Johnston. They were married on July 2, 1960 in Baker, Oregon. They lived for several years in Roseburg where he worked at Roseburg Lumber Company. In 1969 he accepted a position with Borg Warner Acceptance Corporation. While working for Borg Warner he lived in Portland and Eugene, Oregon and Seattle, Washington. In 1976 Don decided he no longer wanted his family to make the frequent moves required by his job, so he accepted a position with Wood Products Credit Union (now Northwest Community Credit Union. In the spring of 1977 he moved his family to the Rogue Valley where Don served at Branch Manager of the local branch of the credit union from June of 1977 until his retirement in December, 1998.

With two sons in school, he was actively involved in Little League and Babe Ruth baseball, and in 1979 he helped establish and was active in the Crater Comets Booster Club.

He was a long-time member of Central Point Christian Fellowship. Don loved the outdoors, and spent a lot of time hunting, fishing and golfing, especially with his sons. He was a frequent fan at Crater baseball games, and was a true Seattle Mariners fan, even during the bad seasons.

He was fond of classic cars, and attended many car shows around the state. His greatest love, however, was always his family and his beloved grandchildren. In November, 2002 Don and Marilyn moved to Medford to live closer to his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; two sons and their families, Jeff and Sharie, Torey and Katie Jo of Aurora, Oregon; and Dave and Angie Dickinson, Courtney and David of Medford; two brothers and two sisters; Fred Dickinson of Roseburg, Oregon, Jim Dickinson of Eureka, California, LaWanda Solomon of Oakridge, Oregon, and Margaret Maddox of Lebanon, Oregon.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Providence Hospice, 1660 East McAndrews, Medford, 97504; or Providence Cancer Center, 940 Royal Avenue, Medford, 97504.

Arrangements: Hillcrest Memorial Park & Mortuary.

Irene "Renee" Robinson
Irene C. Robinson 'Renee' was born January 12, 1913 in Hull, England. She moved with her family to Seattle in 1918, where she grew up.

She joined the Women's Army Corps during WW II and was stationed in Honolulu, Hawaii, where she met and married Roland Robinson, a member of the Marine Corps. A son, Michael, was born August of 1946, and the family moved to Camp Pendleton, Oceanside, California in 1947. In 1952 the family moved to Seattle, where Irene lived until 1998 when she moved to Medford.

She worked for Safeco Insurance Company for many years.

Irene enjoyed traveling, gardening, and reading, and was a lifelong member of the Catholic Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband Roland 'Robbie', and son Michael, and six bothers and sisters. She is survived by sisters Evelien Giakovmas and Lillian Cole of Seattle, Washington; and nieces Lynn Moore of Seattle, Rosemary Heerman of Portland, and Diane Roberts of Medford as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Hospice, Medford.

There will be a memorial service at the Sunset Room of Rogue Valley Manor at 4 p.m. Thursday, May 19. A Funeral Mass will be at noon Friday, May 20, at Shepherd of the Valley Catholic Church, Central Point.

John A. Garren
A memorial service for John A. Garren will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, May 20, 2005, at the Medford Seventh Day Adventist Church, 1900 Greenwood St.

John died suddenly and unexpectedly Friday, May 13, 2005.

He was born on January 19, 1943 in Redlands, CA. John was the youngest child of Charlie A. and Reatha (Forehand) Garren. At a young age he moved with his family to Oregon, graduating from Riddle High School, Riddle and OIT Klamath Falls.

John was a long time member of Millwrights Local 711. He also was former owner of Garren Equipment, providing industrial maintenance and installation of equipment for mills in Oregon and Northern California.

John spent many hours restoring old cars for himself and others. He enjoyed the outdoors, gold mining and being with his friends. He was a good friend to many.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Anne; sons, Curtis Garren of Eagle Point, Troy Vincent and his wife Lisa of Palmer, Alaska; daughter, Melissa Garren; sister, Betty Porter of St. Helens; brothers, Gary Garren and Roy Garren of Myrtle Creek; and many nephews and nieces. John was the son-in-law and good friend to Herb and Kay Johnson of Phoenix, OR; and proud "Papa John" to Caitlin and Erin Vincent of Palmer, Alaska and Zachary Burnette of Winston, OR.

In lieu of flowers a donation may be made to John Garren Memorial Fund, Rogue Federal Credit Union.

Robert "Bob" L. Williams
Robert "Bob" L. Williams age 69 of Medford, died on May 14 at a local foster care facility after a valiant battle with cancer.

Bob was born August 13, 1935 at Portland, Oregon to Steve and Lillian Williams. He was the youngest of three boys.

Bob served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1953.

He worked as a painting contractor. He was also talented in many other areas.

He was active in the church, which was a very important part of his life. He was a volunteer chaplain for the County Jail; Sheriff s Department and Mercy Flights.

Survivors include his wife Jean; one daughter Debbie of Portland, Oregon; three sons, Bob of Tacoma, Washington, David of Central Point and Dan of Central Point; seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 18, at the Apostolic Faith Church in Medford with interment to follow at 2 p.m. at Eagle Point National cemetery.

Those who wish may make contributions in his memory to Providence Hospice; 1160 E. McAndrews Medford 97504 or the Salvation Army: 304 Beatty St. Medford, 97501.

Audrey Louise St. John
Audrey Louise St. John, 94, died Tuesday (May 17, 2005) at Rogue Valley Medical Center. Arrangements: Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives, Medford.

Bennie Mae Balyeat
Bennie Mae Balyeat, 93, of Medford died Sunday (May 15, 2005) at Linda Vista Care Center, Ashland. Service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 19, at Eagle Point National cemetery.
