Audrey Louise St. John
Audrey Louise St. John, 94, of Medford, passed away unexpectably May 17, 2005.

She was born on Aug. 30, 1910 in Graten, CA to Earnest and Ethel Bray. On Aug. 8, 1929 in Lake Port, CA she married Clarence St. John who preceded her in death. They lived in Lake County, CA where she raised goats and her husband logged. They moved back to Willits, CA and in the early 1960s they moved to Talent so Clarence could log.

She was visiting who she called her "special friend, " great-grandaughter Jami the evening she became ill. She was very much the center of her family.

Audrey had lived at Waterford Three Fountains since 2000 where her granddaughter-in-law is the Director of Nurses.

Her daughter Bonnie always said, "If ever stranded on a deserted island we would need Mama, because she was a survivor." She could do, make do, and do without better than anyone she knows.

She was a member of the Ashland Seventh Day Adventist Church and taught all her children and grandchildren about the Lord. She took care of many children. She had a green thumb, loved veggies, ate no scavengers, and was real handy with a hammer.

Survivors include three sisters, Donna Jackson, Ruth Wheeler, and Martha Albini all of CA; children who she raised as her own, a daughter, Bonnie Atterberry and her husband Don of Gold Hill; and a son, Russell "Bob" Spence and his wife Lucy of Medford. She had many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She had a very special caring friend at the gas station in Gold Hill named "Smokie." She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence; her brothers, Homer, Hanson and Paul Bray; a sister Ardis Embury; a niece, Laurel Ann Stiles (six weeks old) and a great-granddaughter Dawn Louise Joerger (18 years old).

A memorial service for Audrey will be at 1 p.m. Friday, May 20, 2005 at the Ashland Seventh Day Adventist Church, 1650 Clark Street. A graveside service will follow at Scenic Hills cemetery, 2585 E. Main, Ashland. Pastors Perry Parks and Chad McComas will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today, Thursday (May 19, 2005) at Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives, Medford.

Audrey was loved and will be greatly missed!

Donna J. Logan
August 14, 1935-April 27, 2005

Donna J. Logan, 69 of Phoenix Oregon died on April 27, after a short but courageous battle with lung cancer. Donna was born in Santa Monica California and grew up in Southern California. She graduated from Inglewood High School in 1953. She then graduated from UCLA in 1957. She majored in English/ History and received her teaching credential.

Donna loved to travel and taught overseas in Worzburg, Germany in 1961-1962. While in Germany Donna made friends with many other teachers that she still remained friends with her entire life. She returned to California and taught at Leuzinger High School in Hawthorn. She continued her education and received her MS in Library Science in 1971 from USC. Then she became the school Librarian at Leuzinger High, where she remained working until 1981.

Donna moved to Oregon in the early 1980s with her mother, Dora Logan. After living in Talent for a short time, they moved to Phoenix. Donna started working for the Jackson County Library Services as extra help in August of 1992. In 1995 she was hired as a reference Librarian working until retiring in August 1997. She continued to go in as a substitute for the libraries when needed. Donna met many of her closest friends while working for the libraries.

Donna was an expert at genealogy research and was a member of the Rogue Valley Genealogical Society. She was a member of Rogue writers Ink were she became the web master for the club.

Survivors include her niece Lorri Gascoigne of Benicia, CA; her nephew Logan Algie, of Long Beach, CA. She was preceded in death by her mother Dora Logan and her sister Pat Algie.

Her family wishes to thank all of her devoted friends that were by her side during her final days.

The family asks that donations be made in Memory of Donna to the Jackson County Library Services, 205 South Central Avenue, Medford Oregon 97501, or to the Rogue Valley Genealogical Society P.O. Box 1468, Phoenix, Oregon 97535-1468.

Lanny Matt Crow
Lanny Matt Crow, 65, of Medford, died Saturday (May 14, 2005) at Providence Medford Medical Center. At his request no services are planned.

Lanny was born on Nov. 23, 1939 in Bell, California to Wilton E. and Louise M. Crow who preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife, Deanie Crow; his children, Kurt Crow, Kim Crow, Darcie King, Lainie Baines, and Roger Bitner; nine grand children; three great-grandchildren; and many dear friends.

Marian Alice Olson
A memorial service for Marian Alice (Smith) Olson will be held at 7 p.m., today, Thursday, May 19, 2005, at Perl Funeral Home, 2100 Siskiyou Blvd, Medford.

Mrs. Olson, 52, of Trail, OR, died at home on May 4, 2005.

She was born in Grants Pass, OR, to Alice Leone and Lyman F. Smith. She was a lifelong resident of the Rogue Valley. She graduated from Medford High School in 1971.

Marian worked as a secretary, and in retail sales. In 1973 she married Garry G. Olson who survives.

She enjoyed homemakmg, gardening, sewing, and living the kinder and simpler life.

Marian was diagnosed in 1985 with Multiple Sclerosis, from which she struggled, yet lived her life with determination, courage, cheerfulness, and love.

Marian's family survivors include her father, Lyman F. Smith; her husband, Garry G. Olson; her brother, Philip Houck; her uncle, Robert Wilson of Vancouver, WA; and her grand-nephew, Christopher Houck.

May we all share love, joy, and peace.

Ray Lee Hodgson
A memorial service for Ray Lee Hodgson will be at 4 p.m. Friday, May 20, 2005 at 614 Albert St., Medford. Private interment will be in Memory Gardens Memorial Park.

Ray, 39, of Medford, died Tuesday (May 10, 2005) at his home.

He was born on Sept. 13, 1965 in Medford, to Marie and Duane Hodgson. He had lived in the Rogue Valley all his life.

Ray served in the Oregon Army National Guard.

He attended Medford Senior High School.

Ray worked as a freelance landscaper.

He enjoyed building mechanical recreational toys, etc.

Survivors include a son, Steven Ray Paul Hodgson of Alabama; a daughter, Cassandra Marie Hodgson of Medford; and two brothers, Robert Anthony and William Henry Hodgson both of Medford.

Arrangements: Conger Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

Ruby Fern Durbin
Ruby Fern Durbin passed away peacefully on May 13, 2005 at her home in Ashland surrounded by her loving family.

She is survived by her sister Opal Sears of Medford; two daughters, Melisa and Mark Raffaelli of Yreka, Leslie and Terry Rice of Ashland; one son, John Durbin of Portland; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Ruby was born on August 24, 1920 in Weatherford, Oklahoma to Ernest and Mayme Robertson. She moved with her family to Indianapolis, Indiana and graduated from high school there in 1939. She married James (Jimmy) Durbin on June 1, 1941 in Indianapolis. During WW II, Ruby and Jimmy lived on bases all over the country, in Officer Training with the Army Air Force. Ruby had many fond memories of those years and she made lifelong friends everywhere they went. She and Jimmy discovered beautiful Oregon and moved to Bend, Oregon in 1948. They also lived in Portland, Oregon, Rainier, Oregon, and Yreka, California, settling in Ashland in 1974.

Ruby was Ashland's "Welcome Wagon Lady" from 1975-1988, welcoming over 3, 000 new residents to Ashland. She founded the Ashland Newcomer's Club in 1975, which still meets today. She was also a successful salesperson for Odyssey Tours for several years. Ruby was an active member of the United Methodist Church all of her life, a Community Concert Board Member, a Girl Scout Leader, a Children's Home Society member, a Rotary Anne, and a faithful volunteer for Handicapped Children's Activities, Ashland Food Bank and Meals on Wheels.

She enjoyed talking and listening to her family and friends, being in the woods, attending all kinds of musical performances and plays, and cooking wonderful home-style meals. She was a fantastic mother and grandmother.

Ruby will be remembered for her friendly, caring spirit, her frankness, her strong faith and her love of everyone.

She will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, May 22, 2005 at 7 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Ashland.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Ashland First United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 175 N. Main St., Ashland, Or. 97520.

Angelina Thurner
Angelina Thurner, 88, died Wednesday (May 18, 2005) in Ashland. She was born on Aug. 26, 1916 in Smith Valley, NV. Arrangements: Perl Funeral Home and Siskiyou Memorial Park, Medford.

Bennie Mae Balyeat
Bennie Mae Balyeat, 93, of Medford died Sunday (May 15, 2005) at Linda Vista Care Center, Ashland. Service will be held at 2 p.m. today, Thursday, May 19, at Eagle Point National cemetery.

Arrangements: Abbey Funeral, Medford.

Grace Hyatt
Grace Hyatt, 92, of Medford, died Tuesday (May 17, 2005) at a local foster care home. Arrangements: Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives, Medford.

Harold "Skip" Stark
Harold "Skip" Dean Stark, 78, of Ashland, died Tuesday (May 17, 2005) at Skylark Assisted Living Center, Ashland. Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.

Jerry Ramey
Jerry Ramey, 77, of Medford, died Tuesday (May 17, 2005) at his home. Arrangements: Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives, Medford.

Karen Kinyou
Karen Kinyou, 54, died Tuesday (May 17, 2005) in Shady Cove. Arrangements: Perl Funeral Home, Medford.

Michael Geoffrey Eastman
Michael Geoffrey Eastman, 65, died Tuesday (May 10, 2005) at his Medford residence. Arrangements by Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.

Richard Gibbs
Richard Gibbs, 92, died Tuesday (May 17, 2005) in Medford. Arrangements: Perl Funeral Home, Medford.

Daniel Stewart
Daniel Stewart, 42, died Aug. 24, 2005 in Santa Cruz, CA.

He graduated Crater High School and at age 18 was employed by IMI in White City. He went on to work for Seagate Corp., as a software design engineer. Finally, he and two best friends formed their own company, Quantum Parametrics.

Daniel loved flying his own plane, diving off the Farallon Islands, Truk Island and the coast of Malaysia. He was building a 65 ft. yacht.

He's survived by his daughter, Brittany Isle Stewart; his mother, Joan Brooks of Sams Valley; his wife Michelle Stewart and former wife, Nancy Stewart.

Born in Downy, CA on Feb. 15, 1963, he was preparing to relocated to Medford.

His love, great wit and love of adventure will be missed by those who knew him.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. on Sept. 11, at Touvelle Park. Call Joan 826-6789.

Dessie O'dell (Gales) Adair
Dessie O'dell (Gales) Adair, 87, of Central Point, died Thursday, September 1, 2005, at home.

A memorial service will be at 2:30, Sunday, Sept. 4, at Lampman Road Baptist Church, 100 Lampman Rd., Gold Hill, OR 97525.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to Lampman Road Baptist Church.

Dessie O'dell Gales was born in Oklahoma to George and Irene Gales.

She was a beauty operator, seamstress, and avid gardener.

She was preceded in death by her husband Raymond Newman; son, James Newman; parents; and two sisters.

She is survived by her grandson, Jason Newman; brother, Frank Gales of Casper, WY; and sisters, Jessie Chandler of Canby, and Betty Davis of Tulsa, OK; two great-grandchildren.

Donald Thomas Lewis
1934 - 2005

A Wonderful Life Donald Thomas Lewis, age 71, passed away Wednesday, August 31, 2005 at his home in Jacksonville. His loving wife of 49 years and all his children were at his side.

Don was born June 16, 1934 in Seattle Washington, where he graduated from Queen Anne High in 1952. He attended the University of Washington, as a business major, enjoyed playing tennis and was a member of the orchestra playing violin. After graduating in 1956, he fell in love and married Natalie Jean Craig on June 22, 1956. Donald and Natalie, lived, worked and began raising their family in Seattle. The next 16 years were busy, 6 children were born, 3 homes were purchased and sold, a Plymouth or two in the garage. Annual family picnics were rarely missed. In 1972, Don was transferred to Medford, Oregon as parts manager for Northwest Roads/Weststate Tractor until the business closed in 1982. The next 20 years he worked for Lawson Products as an independent Sales Agent, retiring August 2005.

Growing up on Seattle's Puget Sound, Don developed a passion for the great outdoors, an appreciation that grew stronger every year of his life. Fishing for king salmon with his father and brother off Whidbey Island or catching rainbow trout off the banks of the Dosewallips. Tracking the big buck on the Olympic Peninsula, Don lovingly shared his knowledge and excitement with his sons as they grew older, and gleamed with pride when they each brought their 1st home. Don loved a good round of golf and riding his motorcycle along with his sons and his dear friends Larry and Tad across the Alvord Desert at the foot of the Steens Mountains in Eastern Oregon. Don lived and enjoyed life everyday.

Always cheerful, never too busy to lend a hand, or help fix just about anything. His good nature, and unselfish kindness was felt by all who met him. Don's loyal and honest character was admired and respected in business and his everyday life. A devoted family man, Don gave his love unconditionally, with patience and understanding to his wife, children and grandchildren. Our lives were always richer because you were here, and will never be the same now that you have gone. You are our hero, our dad, husband, grandpa and best friend. We miss you terribly, remembering your awesome strength in life will and has enabled us to be strong, go on, live and be happy. So goodbye for now, until we see you later on. We love you forever.

In addition to his wife, Natalie, survivors include his five children and their spouses: Annette and husband, Jerry Beliveau of Central Point, Karen and husband, William Maentz of Medford, Jamie Lewis and fiancé, Darlene Spicer of Medford, Charlie Lewis and wife, Kim of Medford, Donnie Lewis and wife, Shellee Sutherlin of Medford; and grandchildren: Sara Lewis, Olivia and Anna Maentz, Ethan and Emilee Lewis. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Fenn and Emily Amelia (Molly) Lewis of Seattle Washington; brothers, Charles Frederick and Earl Richard of Seattle; and infant daughter, Kathryn Louise Lewis of Seattle.

Don was known and loved by many, and will always be forever remembered.

A graveside service and internment will be held at Siskiyou Memorial Park, on Thursday, September 8 at 11 a.m. Officiating the service will be Chaplin Paul Hagedorn. Immediately following, friends and family are invited to a gathering to remember and celebrate Don's 71 wonderful years of life. Held at the home of Karen and Bill Maentz, 513 Sterling Point Drive, Medford, Oregon.

The family requests donations to be made to Providence Hospice for their loving care of Don during his illness. Providence Hospice Home Care, 1660 East McAndrews Road, Medford, Oregon 97504.
