Leo Paul Hulick
Leo Paul Hulick, 78, formerly of Medford, Oregon and most recently of Cambridge, Wisconsin, passed away in his home from cancer on Tuesday, October 25, 2005.

He was born in Janesville, WI on July 11, 1927, the son of the late Nicholas and Katherine (Christian) Hulick. Leo graduated from Janesville High School, class of '45, and served in the U.S. Navy from which he was honorably discharged in 1946. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in business from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1952. After college, he settled in the San Francisco Bay area until he moved with his family to Kenosha, Wisconsin in 1967. He worked there at Snap-On Tools as a systems analyst for a number of years. In 1983, he became an expatriate working in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Dubai in the United Arab Emirates until his retirement in 1992. He then settled in Eagle Point, Oregon until 2004, when he moved to Cambridge, Wisconsin.

He had four children. Paul Frances (deceased), Elizabeth (Mark Handley), Ann Hulick, Elaine (Dean) Patricia Hulick Carlson, and Carolyn (Ted) Mary Hartwcll, all with his former wife Patricia (Roney) Hulick. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Lucas Bielcjcwski and Nicholas Handlcy, Frances and Charles Carlson, and Theron Franklin, and Louise Hartwell; his sisters, Mary and Irene; and nieces and nephews. Besides his son, Paul, Leo was also preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Harry, John and Tom; and his sister, Ann.

According to his wishes, his remains will be cremated with arrangements being made by Nitardy Funeral Home of Cambridge. A private memorial will be held at a future date.

Leo enjoyed traveling, and by his own count, "crossed the Atlantic 37 times". He visited Paris many times, England, Cyprus, Mauritius, and most recently, Alaska. After his retirement, Leo cherished his A-frame house in Eagle Point, Oregon with its view of "his" mountain. He was enthusiastic about the senior citizen seminars program at Southern Oregon University in Ashland.

He was a gregarious man who loved socializing, good conversation, good food, and wine, and classical music performances. He was also an excellent cook. His family and friends will remember him always as a remarkable man of great strength of personality and love of life. We hope to carry on his example of energy and enthusiasm.

Robert E. McCauley
April 6, 1918 - October 22, 2005

Robert E. McCauley, 87, of Medford, died with his boots on in Hurley, Wisconsin on Saturday, October 22, 2005. He was about 200 yards from his boyhood home.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. November 10 at Sacred Heart Church, with reception to follow. McKevitt-Patrick Funeral Home, Inc. of Ironwood has been very helpful in assisting the family.

Bob was born in Hurley, the youngest of seven children, to Charles and Anna (Croll) McCauley. Bob graduated from Hurley High School in 1936.

He married his grade school sweetheart, Goldie C. Hendrickson on June 2, 1942. She passed away in 1993 after 51 years of marriage.

He served in the U.S. Army during WWII, stationed at Army Headquarter offices in Honolulu. Following his honorable discharge, he and Goldie settled in Ironwood. Bob worked for Alexander Ford and Gotta Motors selling new and used cars.

In 1965, he moved his family to Medford, where he briefly worked in car sales and then went to work for Boise Cascade Plywood Mill until his retirement in 1984.

His children described him as a hard working man who was always on the go. A devout and practicing Catholic his entire life, he looked forward to attending Mass. He enjoyed woodworking for many years and sold his handmade toys at holiday bazaars in the Rogue Valley. In his later years, he enjoyed dancing and was a member of various senior dance clubs. He was known for his smile, homemade muffins and always helping out family and friends. Bob was an avid Green Pay Packer fan and loved Airedale dogs.

As Bob's health declined, he moved into Anna Maria Creekside, where he continued to have a very active social life and enjoyed the many new friends he met along the way. He always wore western hats and came to be known as "Cowboy Bob." Despite the health limitations, he was always planning his next trip or activity.

Longing to see his birthplace one last time and about to enjoy his favorite meal of spaghetti and meatballs, Bob died suddenly in the presence of family and friends. He is home again, his ashes to be interred with his mother and father in the Hurley cemetery.

Surviving is one sister, Vera; two sons, Robert (Mary) and James (Betzy); three daughters, Roberta (Bill) Burke, Sunny McCauley and Molly (Jon) Cooper; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Remembrances may be made to St. Mary's High School - Sacred Heart School, in Bob's name.

Walter "Willie" Wassum
Willie Wassum, age 84, of Medford died, October 22, 2005. A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Monday, November 7, at the First United Methodist Church in Medford. The interment took place at Eagle Point Veteran's cemetery.

Willie was born on July 20, 1921 in Sidney, Nebraska to Walter M. and Velna Jones Wassum. He graduated from Sidney High School in 1938 and the family relocated to Chico, California.

He married Joyce A. Whitmoyer February 24, 1943. He served in the U.S. Navy, being sworn in on December 6, 1941, through the end of the war. As a First Class Electrician, he served on LST 472 in the Solomon Islands of the South Pacific.

Willie accepted a transfer with the Gates Rubber Company in 1963 to become Manager of the Gates Tire Center in Medford. When the Gates Rubber Company dissolved the Tire Division, Willie chose to remain in the Rogue Valley instead of transferring out of state. He worked for both Weiler Oldsmobile and Courtesy Chevrolet in their sales departments prior to obtaining his Realtor's license. He sold and leased commercial property until his retirement in 1997.

Community service was an essential part of his life. He was a member of the Medford Planning Commission and served on the Board of both the Rural Fire District #2 and Bear Creek Valley Sanitary Authority for over 20 years. He was an active member of Medford Crater Lions and First United Methodist Church until his death.

Willie is survived by his wife Joyce and daughters Melissa Kusnerik of Medford, Sylvia Annigoni and Wilma Fixsen, both of Sacramento, CA; five granddaughters and three great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the First United Methodist Church or the Southern Oregon Lions Sight and Hearing Center in Medford.

Dorothy H. Thornton
Dorothy H. Thornton, 92, of Salem (formerly of the Rogue Valley) died Saturday, October 22, 2005. Arrangements: Virgil T. Golden Funeral Home, Salem.

Beuna P. Walton
Beuna P. Walton, age 95, passed away on October 25, 2005 in Troutdale, OR. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 pm on Sunday, October 30 at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.

Beuna was born on July 7, 1910 in Colorado to a farming family. She moved to Medford in 1934.

Mrs. Walton enjoyed sewing, crocheting, table games and dancing. She also enjoyed being a homemaker as well as her occupation as a pear packer in Medford Beuna is preceded in death by her husband, Louis Walton. Survivors include: two sons, V.V. Bud Simmonds and Monte Albright; two daughters, Nita Morrison and Melva Martin; seven grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and nine great great-grandchildren.

Albert C. Silveira, 75, of Medford, died Thursday, October 27, 2005 in Medford. Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

John William Harney
John William Harndy, 65, of Medford, died Tuesday, October 25, 2005, at Ashland Community Hospital. Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.

Margaret E. Van Slyke
Margaret E. Van Slyke, 79, of Talent, died Friday, Oct. 28, 2005 in Grants Pass. Arrangements: Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.

Carolyn Sue Antle
A celebration of the life of Carolyn Sue Antle will be at 4 p.m. Monday, May 23, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Medford. Rev. Chris Ward will officiate. A viewing will be from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 22, 2005, in the Hillcrest Memorial Chapel, Medford.

Mrs. Antle, 67, died Wednesday (May 18, 2005).

She was born on March 16, 1938 in Clarkesville, Texas.

Carolyn was an active member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church and the Healing Room in Medford, OR. She was the founder of the Good Shepherd ministries for teenagers, and enjoyed working with people through Christian Counseling.

Survivors include her husband, Glen Antle; daughter, Kathy Murist, daughter and son-in-law Karen and Ed Reis; seven grandchildren, Kayla Reis, Meghan Muriset, Kristin Reis, Kelly Reis, Celine Muriset, Ryan Muriset, and Loren James; and one great-grandchild, Kylee James.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, P.O. Box 650409, Dallas, TX 75265-0309.

Hannah "Jean" Moen
Hannah "Jean" Moen, 85, of Grants Pass, died on Wednesday, May 18, 2005 at her residence. Arrangements: Chapel Of The Valley - L.B. Hall Funeral Home.

Sally Ann Williamson
Sally Ann Williamson, 69, of Eagle Point, died Thursday, May 19, 2005, at Providence Medford Medical Center. Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Direcotrs of Medford.

Valerie J. Elbert
Valerie J. Elbert, 61, (July 6, 1943) of Central Point, died Friday (May 20, 2005) at her home. Arrangements: Conger Morris Central Point Chapel.

Barbara Ann Golden
Barbara Ann Golden, 56, of Talent, died Friday, February 25, 2005 in Medford.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 1, 2005, at Perl Funeral Home, 2100 Siskiyou Blvd., Medford. Dave Russell will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Breast Cancer Society.

Barbara was born on February 4, 1949, in Grants Pass, to Howard and Ava (Dean) Cooper. She attended Medford Senior High. On June 4, 1965, in Medford, she married James Golden.

Loving wife and mother of two, Barbara enjoyed reading books, playing golf, painting pictures and being a grandmother.

Barbara was preceded in death by her mom and "papa, " George and Ava Slade; her father Howard Cooper; and two brothers Ronnie Cooper and Glen Cooper.

In addition to her husband of almost 40 years, James Golden, survivors include her son James R. Golden, Jr. and daughter-in-law Wanda; daughter Julie A. Rogde and son-in-law Terry; sisters, Bonnie Davidson, Mary Bostwick, Judy Goodin, and Katherine Cooper; brother Joe Cooper; and grandchildren, Stephanie Rogde, Tyler Rogde, Laura Golden, and Kindal Golden.

Donald James Hayes
The memorial service for Donald J. Hayes will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, February 28, 2005, at Memory Gardens Memorial Park in Medford.

Mr. Hayes, 68, of Central Point, sercame to cancer on Tuesday February 15, 2005 in his eldest daughters home in Caldwell, Idaho.

He was born on February 16, 1936 in Glendale, CA.

Don had been in the U.S. Navy in the mid to late 1950's. After completing his service duty, he went on to being a movie extra in a few different feature films such as "Paint Your Wagon" and "The Way The West Was Won." He was also an avid collector of ancient artifacts and many other fine collectibles.

Survivors include his ex-wife; seven children; 13 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Geneva Osgood
Verta Geneva Osgood, 79, of Central Point, died Wednesday (Feb. 23, 2005) at home. No service is planned.

Geneva was born on March 18, 1925, in Henrietta, TX, one of 14 children to Benjamin and Lena (Sisson) Stephens. She and her beloved companion of 14 years, Ben Peterson, moved to the valley in 1991 from Wadsworth, NV.

She was a homemaker, gardener and enjoyed nature, the outdoors and spending time with her family.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Rogne Valley Hospice.

She is survived by her companion; four children, Celena Howard of Cedar City, UT, Marilyn Affeldt of Truckee, CA, Wanda Stephens of Truckee, CA, Glenn Jones of Reno, NV; a brother, Donnie Stephens of Napa, CA; a sister, Gail Smith of Battleground, WA.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded by her parents, second husband Charles Osgood, and 11 brothers and sisters.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Central Point Chapel.

Harry Eugene Hoxie
Harry Eugene Hoxie of Ashland died Feb. 23, 2005 at Linda Vista Care Center in Ashland.

Harry was born on March 6, 1915 to Lavilla and Johnson Hoxie in Cle Elum, Washington. He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1920. On Nov. 19, 1938 he married Margaret Milhoan.

Harry was mobilized with the B Battery 249th Coast Artillery located in Ft. Stevens in 1940. After a few months emergency family leave he returned to Ft. Lewis, WA in the 985th Field Artillery Battalion. He served the remainder of World War II in Italy and received an honorable discharge from the Army of the United States in November of 1945. He received several medals during his term of service. Harry went on to be an active member of the Oregon Army Guard and retired in 1975. He was an honorary member of the 186th Infantry Division.

He was employed as a driver salesman for many companies in the valley and retired in 1972.

Harry was a life member of the Ashland Elks Lodge No. 944 and in 2003 was given his 60 year lapel pin.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading, doing crossword puzzles and going on trips with his family and spending time with his close friends, Cliff and Margaret McLean.

Harry was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church.

He is survived by his wife Margaret, a son David (Debby); daughter Mary Flinn (Michael); and six grandchildren, Caroline Flinn, Allison Andrew, Andrew Flinn, Trista Hoxie, Ryan Hoxie and Zach Miller. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.

Services will be held Tuesday, March 1, 2005 at the Trinity Episcopal Church at 44 N. 2nd Street in Ashland, at 2 p.m. A reception will follow in the church parish hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Elks Children's Eye Clinic in care of the Ashland Elks Lodge No. 944, 255 East Main Street, Ashland, OR. 97520.

Henry M. Leines
"Norwegian Son" Joined our Lord Jesus Christ at age 76 Henry "Hank" Merwyn Leines joined the Lord on February 22, 2005, at the age of 76.

Henry was survived by his wife of 52 years, Lenore L. Leines; his two sons, Henry Jr. and Lawrence Leines; his four daughters, Loretto Danner, Lisabeth Black, Maureen Becker, and Patricia Leines; 18 grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Henry was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters. Henry touched the lives of both family and friends. His compassion, strength, and love for life were instilled in all who knew him.

Henry was born on May 13, 1928 to Henry W. Leines and Mathilda Hanson in Minneapolis, Minnesota. To those dear to him, Henry was nick-named "Babe", for the fact that he was the youngest of four sisters. Henry and his parents moved to Portland, Oregon when he was 13 years old. He graduated from Washington High School in 1946 and joined the Army during the occupation of Japan, where he played the tuba and trumpet in an army band. After two years of service, Henry returned to the United States. He then attended Lewis and Clark. He is in the Lewis and Clark Hall of Fame for track and football. As an outstanding athlete, Henry could run the 100 yard dash in 11 seconds flat. He graduated from Lewis and Clark in three years with a Business Administrative Degree. While attending Lewis and Clark he met Lenore Weller. The two fell in love and after graduation, were joined in marriage on September 6, 1952, at All Saint's Catholic Church in Portland, Oregon.

In 1962, Henry worked as a district representative for Richfield Oil Company and was transferred to Medford, Oregon. In 2005, he received his 25 year pin from the Newton Manufacturing Company.

While residing in Medford, Henry was involved in community activities such as: St. Mary's High School Athletic Program, Sacred Heart Choir, Sons of Norway, President of the Jacksonville Kiwanis Club, as well as past Kiwanis District Lieutenant Governor.

Henry will be forever remembered for his strong Catholic values and ethics and his kind and understanding heart. Henry believed that in finding true happiness and love in life, family must come first. He was a devoted husband to one, father to six, and friend to many. Henry possessed a unique spiritual understanding and relationship with God.

It was in loving memory that we gathered to celebrate the precious life of Henry "Hank" Merwyn Leines. The Celebration of Love and Life Memorial Mass was held on Friday, February 25th, 2005 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 2 p.m. with the reception following in the Church Hall.
