Mark Roberts Wilson
Mark Roberts Wilson, formerly of Medford passed away from illness on October 23, 2005 in Concord, California. He was 54 years old.

Mark was born October 6, 1951 in Portland, Oregon to Frank M. and Patricia J. Wilson. His family moved to Medford, where Mark attended St. Mary's school until his sophomore year. His family then moved to Portland where Mark attended Wilson High School, excelled in playing football and graduated in 1970. After graduation, Mark attended Oregon Technical Institute in Klamath Falls, Oregon, where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering. While living in Klamath Falls, he met and married Linda Bullinger. They eventually moved to Redmond, Washington, where Mark was employed for many years as an engineer with Boeing.

Since retiring from Boeing, Mark and Linda have lived in Concord, California, where he enjoyed golfing, swimming, gardening and dreaming of purchasing his second Harley Davidson some day.

He is survived by his wife Linda; his sister, Kathleen R. Wilson (Chambers); brothers, Scott R.Wilson and Sandin R. Wilson; their spouses; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A private scattering of ashes at sea is planned.

Winifred Hughes Knutsen
Winifred Hughes Knutsen, 87, of Jacksonville, died Monday (October 31, 2005) at a local foster home. No services are planned.

She was born on April 9, 1918 to Bess and Joseph Hughes. She attended Dunsmir High School. In 1952, in Vancouver, WA, she married Bernard K. Knutsen, who preceded her in death. They lived on Forest Creek Road in Jacksonville for 50 years.

Mrs. Knutsen was a homemaker and took great pride in taking care of her family.She enjoyed cooking, sewing, gardening and dogs.

Survivors include a daughter Linda Dutcher Buchser; a sister-in-law Phyllis Hughes; her granddaughter, Andria Dutcher Nickel; and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Clarence Hughes.

Gerald R. Stevenson
Gerald R. Stevenson, age 80 (Sept. 13, 1925), died Wednesday (Nov. 2, 2005) in Medford. Arrangements: Perl Funeral Home and Siskiyou Memorial Park.

Berton Harry Miles
After a life of faithful, quiet service to his family, church, community, and country, Berton Harry Miles passed away on February 23, 2005.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Elizabeth (Betty) Miles; and his two daughters Mona Miles Koehler and Mirinda (Mindy) Miles Petersen. He adored his daughters as he did his two grandchildren, Joel and Rachel Petersen. He loved his sons-in-law, Gary Koehler and Duane Petersen.

Born on May 28, 1917 in New York City, he was raised in Queens and never lost his New York accent. During World War II he was an aviation machinist in the US Coast Guard and served under the US Naval Command in the Pacific. Mr. Miles was recognized not only for his dedicated service but also for his off duty participation in athletic events sponsored for the entertainment of fellow service members.

Following his honorable discharge, Mr. Miles began a lengthy career in sales with the public utility industry whereby he traveled the country. In 1949 he met and married his wife. The couple raised their two girls in Ohio and Illinois. They have lived in Ashland since 1985.

Mr. Miles produced prolific vegetable and flower gardens enjoyed by family and friends. He played different sports and was admired for his athletic abilities. Always the adventurers, Bert and Betty traveled to remote wilderness areas and around the world. Wherever he was, Bert gave the gift of his smile and laughter.

Throughout his life Bert served as an acolyte, lay reader and crucifer in the Episcopal Church. His deep faith was evident in his quiet service to all people.

Listening to jazz music and dancing gave Bert great pleasure. Bert and Betty danced beautifully together. Watching them gracefully glide across a dance floor was a joy for others. We are thankful to God for the dance of shared life He gave to this couple.

A Memorial Service and inurnment for Berton Harry Miles will be on May 28, 2005 at 10 A.M., at Trinity Episcopal Church, 44 South 2nd Street, Ashland.

Memorial contributions may be given to the Bert Miles Acolyte Fund at Trinity Episcopal Church.

Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.

Charles N. Petersen
A funeral for Charles N. Petersen will be at 11 a.m. Monday (May 23, 2005) at Conger Morris Medford Chapel. Rev. Erv Voogd of Jacksonville Presbyterian Church will officiate. Interment will be at Eagle Point VA National cemetery. A viewing will be from 2 to 5 p.m. today, Sunday, May 22, 2005 at Conger Morris Medford Chapel.

Mr. Petersen, 80, of Medford, died Tuesday (May 17, 2005) at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

He was born on Dec. 14, 1924 in Minden, Iowa to Herman and Margaret Petersen. On March 20, 1949 in Underwood, Iowa he married Mary Esther Hessel who survives. They moved to Medford in 1955.

Mr. Petersen served in the U.S. Navy during WWII.

He worked as a sales clerk for the Grange Co-op in Central Point.

Mr. Peterson was a 25 year member of the Grange.

He enjoyed reading, construction, and farming.

In addition to his wife, Mary, survivors include sons, Rodney of Medford, Steve of Jacksonville, and Don of Medford; a sister, Betty Ann Rodenburg of Iowa; two brothers, Herman Petersen Jr. of Flordia, Ron Petersen of Pennsylvania; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

Dolores L. Connell
Dolores L. Connell, fondly known as "Dedee, " died at Rogue Valley Medical Center, May 14, 2005. She was 86 years old.

Dolores was born August 27, 1918 in Monmouth, Arizona. In 1936 she married Henry Padilla, who died in 1964. In 1974, Dolores married Sidney Melville Connell, who died in 1983. During these years she lived in Arizona, the San Francisco Bay area, and the last 24 years in Gold Hill, Oregon.

Prior to her retirement, Dolores worked in the nursing field as a caregiver. Her passion in life was her family. She was independent, outspoken, and was usually right in a debate.

Dolores loved to watch two programs, one was Walker- Texas Ranger, and in later years any movies with Jackie Chan. She loved to read and enjoyed winning in the game of Yahtzee with her her oldest son, Fred.

We thank Leticia Scott for the many times she took Dolores to Bingo, and June Lines for the Grange meals and baked goodies. Special thanks to Doctor Dean Raniele for his special care over the years.

Dolores was a member of the Shepherd of the Valley Catholic Church. Her special friend, Irene Vaughn, came to her home on a weekly basis, as a friend, and to give her communion. Dolores adored you, and even shared her cookies.

Dolores is survived by her sons, Fred Padilla and his wife Sandy of San Carlos, CA, Henry Padilla and his wife Julie of Medford, and Arthur Padilla and his wife Carol of Gold Hill; 18 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Her brother John Almanzo lives in Arizona. Her daughter Irene, son Robert, grandson Joseph and parents preceded her in death.

There will be a celebration of life for Dolores at the home of Art and Carol Padilla in Gold Hill on May 28, 2005 at 2 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Jackson County Dunn House.

Esther V. Jenkins
Esther was 82 years old at the time of her passing on May 16, 2005. At her request, no memorial service will be held.

She was born in Penn Yan, New York on November 11, 1922 to Danish immigrants Chris Christensen and Anna K. Pedersen. On October 6, 1945 she married Frank H. Jenkins, Jr. Frank preceded her in death in March, 2000.

Esther is survived by a sister, Marie Stewart, of Central Point, and four children: daughters, Donna Lundell and Thelma Kayser, both of Medford; and sons, Frank H. (Butch) Jenkins, III of Central Point and Larry Jenkins of Rogue River. She was the proud and loving grandmother of 14 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Carlton Christensen and Oswald Christensen.

She worked for Harry and David Bear Creek Corporation as a customer service rep. for over 15 years, until her retirement in 1984.

Since her retirement she spent her time reading, gardening (she especially loved her flowers) and spending time with her family.

Esther gave regularly to a number of children's funds. Memorial contributions in her honor may be made to the children's fund of your choice.

Grace Louise Hyatt
Feb. 16, 1912 - May 17, 2005

A remarkable woman, wife, mother, teacher. A dedicated progressive thinker who enjoyed and cherished all people everywhere, regardless of nationality, race, or creed.

She was born February 16, 1912 in Waukegan, Illinois. Her parents were Grace Vivian Hill and Asahel George Stevens. The fifth of seven children, she grew up in Waukegan and married Dr. James Edwin Hyatt in July of 1932. She moved with her husband and four children to Oregon in 1942, living the first few years on the coast before moving to Albany. With all her children in school, she actively pursued her college education by attending extension, night classes, and summer school. She attained her Bachelor, Master, and PHD degrees in education at the University of Oregon. In Albany, Grace Louise and her husband were active in the OSU Cosmopolitan Club, gaining a number of lifelong friends from around the world.

She moved to Salem in 1953 and began a career of teaching special education. In 1958 she continued her career in Madras, Oregon. Two years later she moved to Bend and became Director of Special Education for Deschutes County. While living in Bend, she was honored with the 1975 Citizen of the Year Award. Grace Louise and her husband were instrumental in the formation and construction of the Central Oregon Opportunity Center in Redmond, Oregon.

Upon retirement she moved to Philomath in 1977. Her husband, Jim, died at a family reunion in Bandon, October 15, 1983. She moved to Ashland in 1989 where she remained for the rest of her life.

As a world traveler she visited Europe, Africa and India. She enjoyed Oregon scenery, especially the coast. She loved bird watching, classical music, and she read voraciously. She was an active member of Unitarian fellowships.

Grace Louise is survived by two sisters, Alsena Hewitt and Portia Babnick; three sons, Kim of Salem, Oregon, Peter of Hendersonville, North Carolina, Judson of Medford, Oregon and one daughter, Dr. Esther Wender, Hansville, Washington. She also leaves seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by two grandsons.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Rogue Valley Symphony, 1250 Siskiyou Blvd., Ashland, OR 97520 or to the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Rogue Valley.

A service in celebration of her life will take place at the Rouge Valley Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 87 4th St., Ashland at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 18. Celebrant will be the Rev. M. Maureen Killoran, daughter-in-law of the deceased, with the Rev. Patt Herdklotz assisting.

Jean Moir
Our beloved Nana, Jean Moir, 97, passed away peacefully as she slept at her home on May 14, 2005.

She was born Jean McDonald Gilchrist in Barhead, Scotland on February 10, 1908. In her teens, she traveled to New Jersey to visit family. In September 1929, she returned to America with her mother and sisters through Ellis Island, and settled in New Jersey where she worked at a hospital for handicapped children.

Jean married Thomas Moir, also from Scotland, on June 17, 1933. She gave birth to their son, Donald Moir, in September 1937. Thomas passed away in December 1983. The lure of better weather and greater opportunity drew the family west in 1944 and they moved to Huntington Park, California.

Jean worked as a Senior Clerk for Prudential Insurance Company from 1952 until her retirement in 1971.

She lived for many years in North Hollywood, California at the Heatherdale Apartments. In 1994 she moved to Grants Pass to be closer to her family.

Jean loved her birth country of Scotland and never lost her wonderful accent. She belonged to the Daughters of the Scotia in Los Angeles She loved to travel, read, play bingo, and reminisce with her family about her experiences in life. Her wonderfully crocheted slippers and afghans still keep us warm.

She is survived by her son Donald Moir and his wife Kay of Grants Pass, Oregon. Survivors also include, her three grandsons, Michael Moir and John Moir of Grants Pass, and Rick Moir of Jacksonville, Oregon; her five great-grandsons, Jeff Moir, Tyler Moir, Nicholas Moir, Nathan Moir, and Landon Moir; and one great-great granddaughter Kaylee. Jean was preceded in death by her mother Agnes Hasty and sisters, Lena Gargan and Nan Grieve.

A private family service will be held.

Jerry Earl Ramey
Jerry Earl Ramey, 77, of Medford passed away in the comfort of his home surrounded by family on May 17, 2005. He battled his illness with bravery and humor.

Mr. Ramey was born on Jan. 9, 1928 in Council Bluffs, IA.

He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and the Korean War. After his time in the service he entered in the newspaper business in Corvallis, OR. He was a General Manager of the Daily Californian in El Cajon, CA. He retired as the Classified Advertising Director for the Mail Tribune in 1989, where he received the Max Holt award.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Inge; his four children, Diane, Jeff, Chris, and Lori; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren; his brother Jack; and sister-in-law Marilyn Ramey.

At his request no service is scheduled.

Joseph Carrier Fenwick
A memorial service for Joseph Carrier Fenwick will be held Sunday, May 29, 2005 at Ashland United Methodist Church at 4 p.m., with a reception to follow in Wesley Hall.

Joseph Fenwick died from an aggressive form of prostate cancer May 16, 2005, with family at his side.

Joe was born on February 8, 1930 in Marshalltown, Iowa and moved with his family to Los Angeles at the age of 8. He became enchanted with the the theater in High School and later earned a Masters and teaching credential in Language Arts and Theater from the highly acclaimed theater and music department of Los Angeles College. Joe met his wife of 53 years, Darlene, at the first production he directed, The Glass Menagerie. Darlene worked on Glass Menagerie as the costume mistress and continued designing and sewing costumes for Joe's theater productions throughout their lifelong involvement in the theater.

After college, Joe taught language and theater for 22 years at Palo Alto High School producing and directing. He created an exceptional theater department at Palo Alto HS before moving to Ashland, Oregon. Here in Ashland, Joe was truly in his element and continued his involvement in theater productions by helping form the Ashland Community Theater and serving as artistic director for 4 years. He directed 5 productions and many playwright series programs in addition to designing and constructing many of the sets. Amazingly, Joe had directed nearly a total of 80 complete theater productions in his life.

In addition to theater, Joe was also passionate about music and was an active member of the Siskiyou Singers and also sang in the choir and was a frequent liturgist in his church, the Ashland United Methodist Church. His love of life, easy going nature, humor, and quick wit, endeared Joe to a multitude of friends - some of whom shared his delight in playing pool and entering into fascinating discussions.

In addition to his loving wife Darlene, Joe is survived by his four children, David, Jeanine Murphy, Sherry Brown, and Daniel; his sisters, Martha-Ann Lathrop and Valerie Thompson; and his four grandchildren Chris, Jeff, Julia Brown and Garrett Brown.

Lawrence Gabriel Rosales
Lawrence Gabriel Rosales, 58, of Eagle Point died Tuesday (May 17, 2005) in Medford. A service has been held in Medford and another is planned in California.

Mr. Rosales was born on April 4, 1947 in Monte Vista, CO.

He worked as a Deputy Sheriff in San Mateo County for 30 years until his retirement.

Mr. Rosales loved a smooth cigar, a glass of scotch and blues music.

Survivors include his children, Lawrence R. Rosales and daughter-in-law, Noel of Elk Grove, CA, Richelle Rosales Medina and son-in-law Justo Medina of San Jose, CA; mother Ramona Rosales of Medford; brother, Russell Rosales of Burlington, CO; sisters, Cynthia Sugiuria of Medford, Juanita Grabenhorst of Medford; and four grandchildren, Natalie, Angelo, Justo Jacob and Sofia. He was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Rosales and a brother, Rodney Rosales.

Marvin Alonzo Rogers
A graveside service for Marvin Alonzo Rogers will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 24, 2005 at Siskiyou Memorial Park.

Mr. Rogers, 76, of Medford, died May 15, 2005.

He was born on Nov. 30, 1928 in Clinton, AR. On Aug. 5, 1960 in Reno, NV he married Dorothy Bolderston who survives.

Marvin served in the U.S. Army. He worked at Boise Cascade.

In addition to his wife, Dorothy, survivors include his sons, Richard and Michael Rogers, and Curtis Dean; his daughters, Dorothy Paterson and Linda Gilbert; several grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

Arrangements: Perl Funeral Home, Medford.
