Walter S. "Bud" Starnes
The funeral for Walter S. "Bud" Starnes will be 1 p.m. Thursday, October 6, 2005 at the Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. at the Eagle Point National cemetery, Eagle Point, OR.

Mr. Starnes, 85, of Ashland, died Saturday, October 1, 2003 at the Ashland Community Hospital. He was born December 13, 1919 in Riddle, Oregon, the son of Venita and James Starnes.

During World War II, Mr. Starnes served in the 321st Infantry division of the United States Army. On May 7, 1948, at Ashland, he married the former Norene A. Crosby, who survives.

Mr. Starnes was a long time resident of Ashland and was a truck driver for ONC Freight Lines for 20 years. He was a member of the Teamsters Union. Bud enjoyed rock hunting, fishing, horseback riding, and outdoor activities.

Surviving. in addition to his wife, are: three sons, Michael (Juliette) Starnes of Ashland, Timothy (Rose) Starnes of Klamath Falls, OR and Kelly (Melanie) Starnes of Corvallis, OR; one brother, Fred Starnes of Idaho; three sisters, Margaret Mann of Petaluma, CA, Ferol McKenzie of Phoenix, OR, and Pat Schytte of Orlando, FL; and one granddaughter, Syrah Starnes of Corvallis. He was preceded in death by two brothers.

Memoiral contributions may be made to a favorite charity.

William "Bill" G. Gaines
A memorial service to celebrate William "Bill" G. Gaines life will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, October 7, 2005 at Conger Morris Chapel in Medford. Chaplain John Braund will officiate.

Mr. Gaines, 78, of Medford, died Saturday (October 1, 2005) at his home with his loving wife by his side.

He was born on Jan. 9, 1927 in Sherman, Texas to Ed and Billie Gaines. At an early age he moved with his family to the Grants Pass and Medford area. He attended Medford schools and Southern Oregon College.

Bill joined the U.S. Army Air in 1943, serving in WW II, the Korea War and Vietnam. He was a helicopter and fixed wing pilot and served in the Presidential flight under the Eisenhower administration. He served his country proudly retiring in 1969.

On August 9, 1946 in Medford he married Delores Carman Olea, who survives. They traveled all over the world during his military career.

Bill was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed camping with his nieces and nephews, especially hunting with his father and nephews, Victor Dutkwicz and Mark McCoy.

He was a fine officer, a gentleman, and Master Mason. He loved his family, the military and his country.

In addition to his wife, of 60 years, Delores, survivors include a sister, Doris Beasley; two brothers, Bob and Jim Gaines; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Earnest; and a sister, Dorothy Dutkwicz.

Zella Ann Millett
A celebration of Zella Ann Millett's life will be at 11 a.m., Friday, October 7, 2005, at the Veterans National cemetery in Eagle Point. Pastor Paul Hagedorn of Providence Hospice will officiate.

Mrs. Millett, 85, of Talent, died Saturday (October 1, 2005) surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on Aug. 7, 1920 at Huckleberry Mountain, Jackson County to Franklin Sullivan and Zetta (Taylor) Sullivan. On Nov. 11, 1945 she married Dale F. Millett who preceded her in death.

Zella took great pride in her home and family. She loved spending time with her family. She enjoyed gardening, bowling, and cooking for family and friends.

Survivors include her son, Frank Millett; her daughter, Carolyn Crews both of Medford; her sister, Francis Johnson of Tulelake, CA; her brother, Charles Sullivan of Glendale, OR; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three siblings.

Memorial contributions may be made to Providence Community Health for the support of Kids Health Connection, 940 Royal Ave., Suite 410, Medford, OR 97504.

Gertrude Birnbaum
Gertrude Birnbaum, 84, of Ashland, died Monday (October 3, 2005) at Linda Vista Care Center, Ashland. Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Crematory, Ashland.

Keith Bryan Mauldin
Keith B. Mauldin, age 55, of Brookings, died Wed., Sept. 28, 2005 near Jacksonville.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m., Thurs., Oct. 6, at Hillcrest Chapel in Medford. A full obituary appeared on Sun., Oct. 2, 2005.

Keith Duane Robbins
Keith Duane Robbins, 46, of Vancouver, WA (formerly of Medford) died Sunday (October 2, 2005) at Southwest Washington Hospital, in Vancouver. Arrangements: Portland Funeral Home, Portland.

Betty M. Ritzinger
Betty May Ritzinger, 68, of Ashland, died Wednesday (September 28, 2005) at the Skylark Enhanced Care Center, Ashland.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 8, 2005 at Patio Village in the recreation room at 233 Eva Way, Talent.

She was born May 21, 1937 in Ashland, Oregon, a daughter of Mabel and Harry Mackay. She had lived in the Rogue Valley all her life, primarily in Ashland and Phoenix.

Mrs. Ritzinger enjoyed camping, gardening, animals, and spending time with her family.

She is survived by one daughter, Kathryn Large of Bristol, TN; two sons, Steven Ritzinger of Springfield, OR and Joseph Ritzinger of Medford, OR; four sisters, three brothers; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and her former husband, Eugene (Bud) Ritzinger. She was preceded in death by one brother; and one son.

She was loved by everyone and will be dearly missed.

Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.

Claude Walter Waddell
Claude Walter Waddell, age 75, of Eagle Point, died Sunday, October 2, 2005, in Medford.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m., Saturday, October 8, at Hillcrest Memorial Chapel.

Memorial donations can be sent to Dornbecker Hospital for crippled children in Portland.

Claude was born on October 1, 1930, in Eagle Point, where he lived all his life. On April 23, 1951, he married Dorothy Waddell, who survives.

He worked for Medco for 42 years, retiring in 1993.

He enjoyed all types of wood working, gardening, and hunting.

Claude is survived by his daughter, Linda Holzhauser of Eagle Point; sister, Beulah Short of Medford; brother, Glenn Waddell of Grants Pass; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two daughters, Lora Sutton and Connie Scarbrough; grandson, Josh Scarbrough; a brother, James Waddell; and a sister, Evelyn Cowden.

Arrangements: Hillcrest Memorial Park & Mortuary, Medford.

Douglas Stanley James
A memorial service for Douglas Stanley James will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, at the Clausen's Illinois Valley Funeral Home Chapel, 26569 Redwood Hwy., Cave Junction.

Mr. James, 63, of Cave Junction, died Tuesday (Oct. 4, 2005) at Rogue Valley Hospital, Medford.

He was born on April 17, 1942 in Butte, MT. He graduated from Phoenix High School and graduated from Oregon State University.

Mr. James moved to Illinois Valley in 1987 from Medford. He was the owner and operator of the Caves Pharmacy in Cave Junction.

He enjoyed fishing and photography.

Survivors include his wife, LaDena James of Cave Junction; two sons, Dean James of Cave Junction and Jeff James of Phoenix, AZ; a sister, Dorothy Rodergertz of Portland; a brother Dr. Jim James of Medford, and five grandchildren.

Keith Edwin Robbins
Keith Edwin Robbins, 46, of Vancouver, WA (formerly of Medford), died Sun., Oct. 2, 2005 at SW Washington Memorial Hospital in Vancouver, WA.

He was born in Owatonna, MN on Aug. 30, 1959, to Stan and Lorraine Robbins. He moved to Medford in 1960, and attended Medford schools.

Keith worked as a commercial painter, and in 1990 moved to Vancouver, WA. A perfectionist by nature, he took great pride in everything he did.

He was a kind and caring person. His loving family and friends will miss him dearly.

He enjoyed camping, fishing, stunt kiting and especially spending time with his family and friends.

Keith is survived by his father, Stan Robbins of Medford; brothers, Corey Robbins of Medford, Stan Robbins, Jr. of Central Point, Kent Robbins of Medford, and Robert Robbins of Gold Hill; his sister, Carol Robbins of Talent; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lorraine Robbins in 1996, and his step-mother, Alma Robbins in 2001.

No services will be held.

Loyse June Robinson
Loyse June Robinson, age 64, passed away on September 26, 2005 in White City.

Loyse was born on May 14, 1941 in Hattisburg, MI.

Loyse is survived by her three children: John D. Robinson, Jr., Kimberly R. Lowery, and Stephanie D. Bridges; as well as her 10 grandchildren.

All contributions can be made to the Hospice of your choice.

Steven Smith
Steven Smith, 52, of Medford, beloved father, grandfather, son, and brother, died unexpectedly September 16, 2005.

He is survived by his loving daughter, Teri, granddaughter, Peyton; and his loving parents Fred and Evelyn Smith of San Bernardino, California. Also, by his loving sisters, Lori Kalams of Medford, and Tammy Lucero of Riverside, California. He also had three nieces and one nephew.

Steven was born in Bend, Oregon on April 13, 1953. He graduated High School in Carmichael, California and briefly attended Columbia Community College before moving to Klamath Falls. He moved to Medford in 1984 and started working at the J. C. Penney store in Medford. He worked there for 20 years until May of 2005.

He enjoyed his work and his many friends at the Medford Penney store. He also enjoyed fishing, camping, music, and all types of sports. He was a great fan of the San Francisco Giants and the Oregon Ducks.

A memorial service to celebrate his life is planned for October 13, at 2 p.m. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church on East Main. His many friends are invited.

The family suggests any memorial contributions be made to the Salvation Army, P. 0. Box 757, Medford, OR 97501.

Golda May Ditch
Golda May Ditch, 92, of Medford, died Thursday (October 6, 2005). Arrangements: Hillcrest Memorial Park & Mortuary, Medford.

Rebecca Martin
Rebecca Martin, 85, of Phoenix, died Wednesday (October 5, 2005) at her home. Arrangements: Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives, Medford.

George R. Burrell
George R. Burrell, Christian, Korean War Veteran, Historian, Scientist, Astronomer, guitarist, rock hound, life long Oregonian, Harley Davidson enthusiast, land-surveyor and lover of all mankind, peacefully passed away at 3:53 pm, Saturday, the 17th of September. At his bedside comforting him, to the next world, in her home, was daughter Elizabeth A. Meadows, along with son, Daniel R. Burrell, and Averil Anderson.

By his friends George will be remembered most as a great mind - someone who had a deep interest and knowledge of many disciplines. By his family, George will be remembered most as an affectionate and truly genteel person.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, the 23rd of September, at Eagle Point National cemetery.

Orin K. Burrell and Leta V. (Agee) Burrell gave birth to George Robert Burrell on the seventeenth of August, one thousand nine hundred and thirty two years after the Birth of Christ. Shortly after high school graduation (1950) George enlisted in the United States Army and fought on the battlefields of the Korean peninsula. In 1955 George separated, as a decorated soldier, from the Army with a honorable discharge George went on to receive an Associate Degree, in Professional Land Surveying, from Oregon Technical Institute (Klamath Falls), in 1958. Employed by the Oregon Highway Department, George helped survey the current route of 1-5 over the Siskiyou Mountains. George wanted to thank the hundreds of clients he served in his self-employed land surveying business since the early 1960s. George R. Burrell will live in the hearts and minds of the people whose lives were touched by his benevolence.

George R. Burrell is survived by his son, David J. Burrell and wife Sukrae (Santa Fe, New Mexico); son, Daniel R. Burrell (Central Point, Oregon); daughter, Elizabeth A. Meadows and husband, Ronald (White City, Oregon); sister, Mary Ellen West (Eugene, Oregon); sister, Margaret West (Half Moon Bay, California); grandchildren, Allison M. Meadows, Danielle K. Burrell, Jocelyn E. Burrell and Jesse A. Meadows.

A potluck will follow the service at the home of Elizabeth A. Meadows, 13115 Three Oaks Drive, White City.

Memorial contribution may be sent to the Linn County Historical Museum Trust at 732 Amelia Avenue, Brownsville, OR 97327.

Inez (Holly) Hollis Pagni
Inez (Holly) Hollis Pagni was called Home on September 12, 2005, while residing at Highland House Nursing Center in Grants Pass, OR.

She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Inez is survived by her children, Frank J. Pagni, Jr. of Grants Pass, OR; Ken Pagni of Gilbert, AZ; Sherrie Miller of Eagle Point, OR; David Pagni of Roseburg, OR; and Charlotte Fredericks of Central Point, OR; and 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service celebrating Inez's life will be at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 25, 2005 at Hull & Hull Chapel, 612 NW A St., in Grants Pass, OR with Pastor Michael Brown of Table Rock Fellowship officiating.

Jeannie Marie Martin
Jeannie Marie Martin, 58, died Sept. 12, 2005, at her home in Anchorage, Alaska.

An Indian Burial was held on Sept. 18, 2005 in Anchorage, Alaska by her husband Sid Martin. A memorial service will be held at the home of Jeannie's mother in Medford on Oct. 8, 2005.

She was born on Feb. 6, 1947 in Eugene. She married Sid Martin in Wrangell, Alaska in 1989. He survives.

Jeannie's hobbies consisted of loving her grandchildren and growing beautiful gardens.

In addition to her husband, Sid Martin of Anchorage, Alaska, survivors include: son, Floyd Hansen of Sacramento, California; daughters, Stacie Seale of Island City and Vennesa Hansen of Redding, California; two grandsons; four granddaughters; her mother; brother; and three sisters.
