William Devon, 77, of Medford, passed away Wednesday, February 22, 2006 at a local foster care. Arrangements: Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives.

William E. Kopriva Jr.
William E. Kopriva Jr., age 79, of Rogue River, died Tuesday, February 21, 2006 at Medford Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. Survivors include his two sisters, Geraldine James of Rogue River and Marge Trostel of Chicago, Illinois.

Betty Perdue
Betty Perdue, age 75, died on February 8, 2006.

She was the daughter of Tom and Jesse Smith. Betty was born on July 21, 1930 in Medford, Oregon. She was married to Bob Perdue, who died in 1990.

Betty was a homemaker and was part of the Eagles organization. She has two sons, Marvin Perdue, who is deceased, and Bill Perdue, who survives. She has four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, February 13 at 12:00 at Memory Gardens Memorial Park.

Dora Lorenzen
April 11, 1909 - Jan. 19, 2006

Mrs. Lorenzen was born in Devon, England to Arthur and Florence Tincombe. They came to the U.S., living in Utah, then Colorado.

She married William Rex Lorenzen in 1930. They had three children, Bill (Jr.) Lois and Jay. She enjoyed her family, handwork, friends and singing.

She was preceded in death by her husband and two sons. She is survived by her daughter, Lois Cousineau and husband Bill, previously of Medford, now of Sunriver; three grandchildren: Jennifer, Doug, Alison and six great grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to: Hospice of Bend-LaPine, 2075 NE Wyatt Ct. Bend, OR. 97701

Gladys Smith Turner
The memorial service for Gladys Isabelle Smith Turner will be held at a later date. Interment was in Memory Gardens Memorial Park.

Mrs. Turner, 90, of Central Point died Tuesday, January 10, 2006. She was born September 11, 1915 in Lucky Strike, Alberta, Canada. On November 20, 1936 in Oakland, California she married Lawrence "Larry" Turner, who preceded her in death in 1992.

They moved to the Rogue Valley near Gold Hill in 1949, where they were charter members of the Bible Baptist Church of Gold Hill.

Survivors include: two sons, Chuck (Candy), of Gold Hill, Michael (Jeannie), Eagle Point; a daughter, Zoe Shumway, Anderson, CA; grandsons, Larry Laahs (Shelley) and Jeremy Poe (Jennifer); six great grandchildren, Christopher, Kiah, Braeden, Kristen, Marissa and Ian; several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Kurt; three brothers, Harvey, Howard and Leslie Smith; three sisters, Emma Bond, Laura Neil and Nell Curran; and a great granddaughter, Madison.

Arrangements by Memory Gardens Mortuary.

She will be deeply missed by all who knew her gentle and kind spirit.

JoAnn Dodge
A memorial service will be held for JoAnn Dodge at 1 PM on Saturday, February 18, 2006 at Rogue Valley Christian Church, 1440 S. Oakdale Avenue, Medford, Oregon.

She died Thursday morning, February 9, 2006 of pancreatic cancer, which had originally been diagnosed in June 2005.

JoAnn was born November 8, 1931 in Ashland, Oregon to Arnold and Barbara Gosnell (both now deceased). JoAnn spent her childhood in Sams Valley and has lived in the Rogue Valley for all of her adult life.

On August 20, 1953, she married Steven J. Dodge, who preceded her in death in 1987.

JoAnn began working for the US Forest Service in 1974 and retired in April of 1994. Throughout her life she was involved in many organizations. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the National Association of Letter Carriers, served as President of the Secretaries Association, was a member of BPW (Business and Professional Women) and most recently was involved with the Crater chapter of Lion's Club International and the Lion's Sight and Hearing Center in Medford where she also served as secretary. An avid music lover, JoAnn was a supporter of the Rogue Valley Symphony and attended concerts regularly. She loved ringing handbells and was a member of the Presbyterian Church Bell Choirs in Medford and Central Point.

JoAnn is survived by two of her daughters, Ginny Hinrichs of Portland and Paula Chapman of Trail; her sister Patti Johnson of Talent and her brother Pete Gosnell of Eagle Point. Also surviving are grandchildren, Jason Gardner and Amy Gardner, Laurie Novac, Theresa Longenberger, Craig Ondesko, Jon Ondesko, eight great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Her daughter Debbie Ondesko preceded her in death.

The family requests memorial contributions in lieu of flowers be made to the RVMC Hospice, 2960 Doctors Park Drive, Medford, OR 97504 or the Lions Sight and Hearing Center, PO Box 604, Medford, Oregon 97501-0041.

Robert Carlton Likins
Robert Carlton Likins, 83, died of blood cancer in his home at Rogue Valley Manor, Medford, Oregon on Tuesday, February 7, 2006.

He was born in Trinidad, CO on April 7, 1922, to Thomas Clifford Likins and Mabel Carlton. At the age of 10 his family moved to Pasadena, CA. After his first year at Cornell College, Mt. Vernon, IA, he was drafted and served in WWII. His battalion was one of the first to arrive at Adolf Hitler's "Eagle's Nest". During his time in the service he married Marjorie Harjes.

Following the war, he and Marjorie moved to New York City. While living in NYC, he attended New York Univ and was employed by the New York Times. His marriage ended in divorce and Robert moved to Calif where he received his BA from San Diego State Univ in Adult Literacy. He did graduate work at Baylor Univ, Texas.

Rob's career was involved in the advocacy of adult literacy. He taught literacy and adult education courses at 11 universities and colleges across the country. He trained Peace Corps trainees for assignment in Jamaica, Nepal, Brazil, and Peru. He taught reading to adults using the pioneering methods developed by Dr. Laubach. He taught in Rhodesia, Africa, and other remote locations and primitive islands.

In 1965 Rob was in Africa where he helped prepare literacy lessons in the Shona language for teachers in Zimbabwe and special literacy training projects in Kenya. In 1970, he was in India and Thailand developing similar programs.

Rob received an honorary Ph.D. in Adult Education in 1970 from Brantridge Forest School, Sussex, England, with special recognition for his work in adult literacy in 25 countries.

Robert settled in the San Francisco Bay area where he was head of the Adult Literacy Center, Berkeley, CA. During these years Rob enjoyed swimming in the Bay and was once bumped by a shark.

In 1973 he married Anna Walcott Hayne, one of his Adult Literacy Center volunteers. Rob and Anna had an active 32 years together traveling to favorite spots such as Maui, HI, Silver Lake, CA, Yachats, OR, Switzerland, Alaska and visiting their family and friends on the East and West Coasts. Rob was an attentive host and husband and enjoyed entertaining at their homes in Berkeley, CA; Sedona, AZ; and later at their cottage at Rogue Valley Manor in Medford. They were a familiar couple strolling arm in arm on the Manor grounds.

His wife Anna died in October of 2005, at the age of 95. Among his surviving relatives are first cousins Mary Ellen Likins of Big Bear, CA; and Virginia Madsen (Don) of Friday Harbor, WA; godson Christopher Cortright (Andrea) of Baltimore, MD; and Anna's children Martha Hayne Talbot (Lee), Sarah Hayne Simpson (Michael), and step grandchildren Lawrence and Russell Talbot, Michael (Lynn), Katherine and Andrew (Pam) Simpson and five step great-grandchildren.

A service will be held to honor his life at Rogue Valley Manor at 2 p.m. on Monday, February 13, 2006. A memorial and internment will be held in St. Helena, California, at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to The Rogue Valley Manor Health Center Fund, Rogue Valley Manor Assistance Fund, Rogue Valley Manor Fund, 1200 Mira Mar Ave., Medford, OR 97504, or a charity of your choice.

Verna May Anderson
Verna May Anderson was born March 9th, 1919 to Earl and Dorothy Loffer. Verna passed away February 5, 2006 at Rogue Valley Medical Center.

Verna moved to Oregon in 1923 and to the Rogue Valley in 1924. She attended St. Mary's Academy until her graduation in 1937. Verna graduated from Robertson's School of Business. In 1942 she joined the USO and at a dance she met Lester Anderson, whom she later married on August 7th, 1944; they were married for 35 years until his death on January 9, 1980.

Verna was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Church in Medford. She was a member of the Phoenix Grange and Neighbors of the Woodcraft Lodge Oak Circle. She worked for Harry & David's Bear Creek Orchards as a mail room clerk; but her favorite job was as a wife and mother of four.

She is survived by her four children, Carolyn, Bob, and Don Anderson who all reside in the Phoenix area of the Rogue Valley and Bill Anderson from Medford; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

A mass will be held 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on February 13th, a graveside service will follow.

Wilson Nathaniel Pla, Jr.
Wilson Nathaniel Pla., Jr, 51, of Medford, Oregon died Tuesday, February 7, 2006 at his home.

He was born January 25, 1955 in Honolulu, Hawaii. He married Tina Anderson who survives here in Medford.

Wilson Pla Jr. served in the US Navy. He was loved by all who knew him. He loved to sing and play golf.

Survivors other than his wife, son; Wilson N. Pla III, Hilo, Hawaii; step-daughter, Penny Anderson of Medford; step-sons, Thomas Holmes, Carl Holmes of Medford; grandsons, J'son and Ethan; other survivors are brothers, Henry Thompson; sister, Wanda Dupont, and nieces, nephews, and cousins all in Hawaii.

The memorial service will be held at the Celebration of Life Church, 1119 Ellen Ave, Central Point on Wednesday, February 15th at 11:00 a.m.

Elmer Leland Lane
Elmer Leland Lane, age 75, of Gold Hill died Thursday, February 9, 2006 at Rogue Valley Medical Center. Memorial services are planned for 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 15, 2006 at Eagle Point National cemetery. Arrangements by Abbey Funeral.

Alice Elaine Ransom Ross
Alice Elaine Ransom Ross, 78, formerly of Ashland, passed away on March 9, 2006, from complications of Alzheimers. Born in Brookings, Oregon, on June 17, 1927, to Edwin and Freida Steineke Ransom, Alice was a member of the pioneer Ransom/Steineke familes who were early settlers in the Brookings area. Being very proud of her heritage, she did extensive geneology tracing her family back to the 1600's, a gift to her surviving family. Alice married Ezra L. (Red) Ross on August 22, 1943, at Smith River, CA, while Red was statiioned with the US Coast Guard at the Chetco Boat Station. Much of their married life had them moving to various locations near the California/Oregon borders following Red's work at the California Quarantine Stations. Much of their later years were spent living in Brookings, where they enjoyed gardening and beach combing. They moved to Ashland in 1989 living there until October 2003 when Red passed away.

Alice was a homemaker all her life. She enjoyed having varioius baked and canned goods on hand for everyone to enjoy. Her cookie jar was always full. She enjoyed crosswords, sewing, reading, gardening and her geneology.

Surviving Alice are her two sons, Michael Ross and wife, Susan, of Salem; Stephen Ross and wife, Barbara, of Ashland; one brother, Wallace Ransom of Medford; grandchildren, Debby Ross Emerson, Betsy Ross Acarregi, Matthew Ross and Brian Ross, seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Chetco Valley Museum, Chetco Museum to PO Box 2126, Brookings, OR 97415.

Services will be held on Friday, March 17, 2006, at 11 am. at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Ashland.

The family sends their heartfelt thanks and gratitude to the staff at Farmington Square in Medford and Providence Homecare/Hospice for their endless loving care they gave Alice.

Clayton Butler Sr.
Clayton Butler Sr., age 77 of Medford, Oregon passed away on March 10, 2006 at Providence Hospital.

A Funeral service will be held at Central Point Assembly of God on Wednesday, March 15, 2006 at 1:30 p.m. Visitation will be on Tuesday, 3:00 to 7:30 p.m. at Conger-Morris Funeral Home, 715 W. Main St., Medford. Burial will be at 3:00 p.m. at Eagle Point National cemetery.

Clayton was born to Ruth and Sam Butler on July 16, 1928 in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. Clayton married Wanda on September 8, 1949 in Richmond, California. His hobbies include woodworking, travel and golfing. He was a lifetime member of Modesto High Band, Teamsters Local 748 and the Booster Club in Modesto, California which he was president for 2 years. Mr. Butler was also part of the U.S. Marine Corp.

Survivors include: son, Clayton Butler, Jr.; daughters, Sandra Crow of Modesto, California, Barbara Campbell of Eagle Point, Karen Ford of Medford, Oregon, and Janette Lema of Turlock, California; 46 nieces and nephews, Sonja (Mark) Fulton, Jim (Mel) Saling and Jody Saling of Medford, Oregon; sister-in-law, Bette Roberts of Medford; 11 grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren.

Clayton was preceded in death by his mother, father, 1 sister, 5 brothers and 1 grandson.

Memorial contributions should be made to the Shriners.

Francis (Frannie) Harrington
Francis (Frannie) Harrington was born November 16, 1909 in Coos Bay, Ore. and passed away March 10, 2006 at Arbor Place in Medford, Ore. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan in 1979.

In 1946 Frannie was a founding member of the Hillcrest Committee of the American Cancer Society. She was an active participating member throughout the years.

Survivors include: sister, Elizabeth Sommers of Junction City, Ore.; nieces, Susan Dameron and Mary Jean Lamb, both of Reno, Nev.

Frannie will be greatly missed by her many friends and their children. She was their Aunt Frannie and adored by all generations.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 17, 2006 at St. Mark Episcopal Church (6th and Oakdale in Medford). In lieu of flowers, remembrance may be made to the Hillcrest Committee of the American Cancer Society, 31 W. 6th St., Medford, Ore 97501 or Salvation Army.

Jeannine Rae Sieforth
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 pm Friday, March 17, 2006 at Oaks Pioneer Church in Portland, Ore. for Jeannine Morris Sieforth who died March 11, 2006 of ovarian cancer.

Jeannine Rae Morris was born August 12, 1932 in Winchester, Idaho. Her family moved to Portland during World War II. She graduated from Franklin High School. Besides raising eight children, she worked as a secretary for many years. A long time advocate for senior citizens, she wrote and published a book, "Medicare Savings and Sense". Survivors include: her daughters, Julie Gould, Lisa Senders, and Betsy Noah; sons, Steven, Jerry, and Jonn Palumbo and Jack Sieforth; nine grandchildren; one great-grandchild. A son, Thomas Palumbo, preceded her in death in 2005.

Joanne Sherman
Joanne Sherman passed away March 7, 2006 at her home in Central Point at the age of 71.

Joanne was born May 6, 1934 in Medford to Henry and Gladys Connell. After marrying Les Findley in 1951, she graduated from Crater High School in 1952. They had two daughters. Teri was born in 1955 in Medford and Janie was born in 1962 in Seattle, Wash. Joanne and Les divorced in 1973, after which Joanne moved back to Central Point. Joanne met and married Martin L. Sherman in 1974, and they had a daughter, Marcia, in 1975.

Joanne is survived by her husband, Martin L. Sherman of Central Point; daughters, Teri Perrot of Eugene, Janie Ellingson of Gresham and Marcia Fecteau of Medford; grandsons, Matthew Smith of Santa Ana, Calif., Scott Smith of Eugene, Kent Ellingson of Gresham, and Keith Ellingson of Gresham. She is also survived by two sisters, Betty Wight of Central Point and Mary Adams of Medford.

Family and friends gathered at her home on Saturday, March 11, 2006 for a private memorial. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made in her name to the charity of your preference.
