Geraldine Johnson
Geraldine Johnson, known as Geri, left Providence Hospital, in Medford, at 6:20 am, Thursday, March 16. She arrived in heaven at precisely the same moment.

Geri was a resident of Big Springs until 2002, when she moved to Medford, OR. She was the widow of Harold (John) Johnson to whom she was married for 44 years. Geri reunited with her husband, her son Dick (Chambers), and her Father, Mother and brother, who all were waiting for her, with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Geri is survived and loved by her daughter, Cindy Maxson, her daughter-in-law, Linda Chambers and her grandchildren, Rick Chambers, Paula Bauer, Colleen Tucker, Ryan Chambers, Kimberly Clark, Christina McReynolds, and Kristy Schauermann, who have brought to her Reed, Aimee, Cole, Race, Reece, Ellie, Presley, Chloe, Miranda and Carolyn as her great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, March 20, at 11:30 am, at the First Nazarene Church of Medford, 1974 E. McAndrews.

There will be a graveside service at Evergreen cemetery, on Monday, March 20, at 3:00 pm.

Marilyn Samarron
A Celebration of Life for Marilyn Samarron will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 25, 2006 at the Bard's Inn on Helman Street, Ashland. Marilyn, 63, of Ashland, was ONE in a Million. She was a unique and flamboyant wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.

Marilyn's gift was leaving a mark on your life whether you had know her for five minutes or for 63 years. We have all been blessed to have had this shining star in our circle of life and her presence was a once in a lifetime experience. There will never be another Marilyn Samarron and if ever a mold was broken after creation it had to be hers. We shall never see another like her.

Never stop living your way is what Marilyn did best and she wanted everyone to do the same. Family and friends meant the world to her. Some will remember her as the shoe aficionado and some may remember her as the bling bling queen. Her family will remember her as a lady that was never afraid to be herself no matter the situation.

To have loved Marilyn is to have loved life itself. In addition to her husband of 45 years, Felix, survivors include her children, Doug and Renee Samarron of West Linn, Ore., Tonia and Kelly Davis of Ashland, Ore.; grandchildren, Jonathan and Dustin Davis, Veronica Samarron, and Blair and Randee Stewart. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ashland Hospice, 70 Ashland St., Ashland, OR 97520.

Shardell Moke Goldman
Shardell Moke Goldman died March 10 of complications of Alzheimer's disease. She was 69. She was born Aug. 12, 1936 in Omaha, Nebraska to Irvin and Virgie (Wilson) Twedt. She graduated from Eugene High School in 1954. She married Richard Moke in 1954 in a garden ceremony in Eugene. They lived in Eugene, LaGrande, Baker City and Medford. They were divorced in 1974.

She enjoyed collecting and refurbishing antiques. Survivors include four daughters, Sheryll Moke Varner and Teresa Thomas, both of Eugene, Karen Bone of Newberg and Cindy Hudnall of Medford; her life partner of more than 20 years, Don Trombly, a brother, Terry Twedt of Pacific City; a sister, Kristi Wenner of New York; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Private inurnment will be in Rest-Haven Memorial Park in Eugene on March 19. Memorial contributions may be made to Creswell Care Center, 525 S. Second St., Creswell, OR 97426.

Shirley K. (Simmons) Rollins Anders

Shirley K. (Simmons) Rollins Anders, 76, of Medford, Oregon passed away, due results of surgical complications, on March 3, 2006 at Merle West Medical Center with her family at her bedside.

A memorial tribute service will be held at Calvary Chapel - Klamath Falls, 1201 S. Alameda Ave. in Klamath Falls on Saturday, March 18, 2006 at 1:00pm.

Shirley was born on November 15, 1929 in Canadian, Texas to Quimby L. and Fern (Cornelius) Simmons. Shirley grew up in Yuma, AZ and Ramona, CA; she graduated from high school in Ramona. In 1947, she married Willard Rollins and the two moved to the Rogue Valley and started a family. That marriage eventually ended. Shirley later married Rafe Anders in Reno, NV in 1972. He preceded her in death in 1988. Shirley was very active and held numerous different jobs in the field of public relations including secretary for Medford School District, hostess and banquet manager for the Rogue Valley Country Club. She later lived in Brookings, OR where she worked in starting a First Federal Savings & Loan branch in that town. She was banquet manager at Ship Ashore Resort in Smith River, CA for 13 years. While there she met the cast of Star Wars during the filming of Return of the Jedi. Following that, Shirley worked as activities director for R-Wild Horse Ranch. She also worked for Living Epistles, an apparel store in Klamath Falls, where she was known as "Nanna Squirrely." Shirley's final position before retirement was a pantry sales associate for Harry & David Country Village in Medford offering samples to customers. Her favorite church was Calvary Chapel in Klamath Falls; she was raised in the Southern Baptist faith. Shirley loved the outdoors including hunting, fishing and camping. She was an exceptional cook who enjoyed doing arts and crafts. Shirley was an accomplished oil painter. She was very social and enjoyed being with people, especially her family.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Mary Rollins of Mosier, OR; daughters and sons-in-laws, Kathy and Steve Gooch of Medford, Julie and Bob Langfield of Klamath Falls; stepdaughter and her husband, Jane and John Malm of Gregory, SD; grandchildren, Renee, Rafe, Joel, Tracey, Guy, Adam, Amy, Rachel, Bobby, Laura, Jenny, Kristie and Katie; 34 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. In addition, she is survived by her stepfather and his wife, Joseph and Marge Stoker of Encinitas, CA; and her stepmother Mary Cahoon of Medford; brothers and sisters-in-law, Quimby and Janice Simmons of Hemet, CA; Jerry and Jackie Simmons of Montana; brother, Pat Stoker of LaMesa, CA; and numerous step brothers and step sisters, nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind her first husband and friend, Willard Rollins of Medford. Shirley was preceded in death by her second husband, Rafe Anders, her son, Rafe Anders, Jr. and her parents.

Stuart Lillingston
The memorial services and celebration of the life of Stuart (Stu) Lillingston will be held at Central Neighborhood Church, 4777 S. Pacific Hwy. in Phoenix on Saturday, March 25, 2006 at 2 p.m.

In lieu of flowers Stu has requested donations be made to the American Cancer Society.

Thomas D. Gettling
Thomas D. Gettling was born in Eagle, Idaho on March 15, 1921 to Edward and Ninabell Gettling. He died peacefully at the home of his son with his family at his side. Tom grew up in the Rogue Valley, graduating from Ashland High School in 1939. On February 14, 1942, he married Louise Whitney. They had two children. Tom served his country during both World War II and Korea, teaching gunnery for the U.S. Army Air Force, he reached the rank of Staff Sergeant. After the Army, he started Alpine Meat Co. with a copartner where he was well known for his sausages. Later he worked for Quality Feed.

Tom had a lifelong interest in anything related to horses. For 53 years he belonged to the Josephine County Sheriff's Posse and Oregon Association of Mounted Police. He enjoyed riding in Showdeo drill teams, participating in play day events, riding on many state trail rides, and swapping stories with good friends throughout Oregon.

Working at the Fair was a job he looked forward to every summer. He could be found taking tickets, parking cars on horseback and gathering animals for Kiddie Playland. Following his retirement from Carnation Feed and Seed in 1986, he could often be found with his cronies on sale day at 4 Corners Auction looking for horses and tack for his business, Tom's Tack.

Tom is survived by his son, William Gettling of Medford and Sue Irwin of Junction City. Also surviving are two brothers, Marvin (Bud) Gettling of Talent and Charles Gettling of Seattle, Washington. He had five grandchildren, Cindy Jesky, Chris Irwin, Carlye Irwin, Scott Gettling and Kami Monk, plus five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise, and a brother, Donald.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on March 25 at Hull & Hull Funeral Home in Grants Pass. A reception for family and friends to celebrate his life will follow at the Flower Building located at the Josephine County Fairgrounds. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to Asante Hospice, 2825 East Barnett Rd., Medford, Oregon 97504. The family would like to thank the employees of Asante Hospice for the loving care Tom received.

Hugh Estel Driver
Hugh Estel Driver, 91, of Eagle Point, Oregon, died on March 16, 2006. Arrangements by Hillcrest Memorial Park & Mortuary, Medford, Oregon.

Isabel Dolan
Isabel Dolan, 95, of Medford, passed away Friday, March 17, 2006 at Providence Medford Medical Center.

Ben Golightly
Ben Golightly was born on December 30, 1928 in Gasoline, Texas. He entered peacefully into eternal life on February 27, 2006 in Medford, Oregon.

Ben married Violet Elliott on May 17, 1960. They raised five children in Sacramento, California before moving to the Rogue Valley in 1998. Ben had been retired from the Rainbo Baking Company since 1986, where he worked for 27 years. Ben loved being "Pop" and spent his early retirement caring for his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Ben is survived by his wife of 46 years, Violet Golightly; two sons and two daughters, Larry Stiles (Shirley) of Elk Grove California, Doug Stiles of Corvallis, Oregon, Michelle Cochrane (Walter) of Reno, Nevada, and Rebecca Golightly of Bellevue, Washington. Ben is also survived by his seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, three sisters and his faithful canine companion, Raja.

He is preceded in death by a nephew, Rick Poole, two sisters and three brothers.

A memorial service and family gathering will be held in Jacksonville, Oregon on March 18, 2006.

Catherine (Katy) Concend Pinckard
The family and friends of Katy Pinckard mourn her untimely passing due to cancer. Born to life July 18th, 1957. Born to eternal life, March 11, 2006.

Katy was raised by her parents, Joseph W. Meier and Joan A. Meier in southern California. Born in Covina she attended school in West Covina and graduated from Edgewood High School.

After a marriage to Paul Pinckard in 1976, she moved with her daughter Constance to Sacramento California where she lived near her parents. She gave birth to her son Richard LaFayette in 1982.

She decided to join other relatives in Medford, OR in 1983, so she moved again with two children to the place she loved the most, Southern Oregon.

Katy faced challenges as a single mom, but she always approached life with enthusiasm. She had a strong and stubborn personality and wouldn't let things "get her down". She made many friends and had many adventures during her life, a highly intelligent woman, she could converse with anyone. She enjoyed the company of people of all walks of life from college professors to street people, to Katy every life had significance.

Katy loved the Beauty of the mountains and forests, camping and gold panning. She loved finding "treasures" at "flea markets" and second-hand stores. She loved people and parties and had an amazing amount of friends! Raised as a Catholic, Katy had a strong belief in life after death and did receive her Last Rites prior to her passing.

She is survived by her father, Joseph W. Meier of Wisconsin, a sister and brother in law, Mary & Rob Moore of Texas. Relatives in Medford include sister and brother in law Ellen and John Davis. She had a daughter Constance Mary Pinckard and a son Richard Anthony LaFayette, a nephew Aaron Davis & niece Amorette Davis-Rux.

Katy was hopeful for the safe delivery of twin grandsons to her daughter Connie this coming July.

Katy is together again with her mother Joan, who preceded her in death in 1998.

Per Katy's request, a party will be held in celebration of life, at her sister's house in Medford on Saturday March 18th at 1:00pm. (RSVP (541)772-0999 for info).

Eva G. Thumler
A longtime resident of Central Point, Eva Thumler, 104 years old, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, March 15, 2006. She died at her daughters home where she resided for the past 7½ years.

Memorial services will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Memory Gardens Mortuary, 1395 Arnold Lane, Medford, with Pastor Scott Covey of the Central Point Assembly of God Church officiating.

Mrs. Thumler was born March 14, 1902 to Charles and Wilhemena (Merkel) Campbell in Carrington, North Dakota where her parents homesteaded a parcel of land in the James River Valley. They came from Brantford, Ontario, Canada and became naturalized citizens. She would recount stories of growing up on the prairie as a child. She played in the buffalo wallows, drove horse and buggy into town and had the fear of prairie fires and winter blizzards. She also had many tales of the big wheat farms and all the work being done by teams of horses. She helped prepare platters of food to help feed the crews of farm hands.

In 1922, she moved with her family to Eugene, Ore. On June 9, 1926, she married Bernard M. Thumler, whose father, Rev. T.L. Thumler, performed their marriage ceremony in Medford.

Mrs. Thumler was a devoted homemaker and loved spending time with all her family. She had been an avid reader until her eyesight failed, played the piano and had a lovely soprano voice. She was singing in church where her husband first saw her.

In her late 80's she was riding on the back of snowmobiles in Yellowstone Nat'l Park on camping trips with her family. On her 90th birthday her son Evan took her in his 18 wheeler truck on a trip back to Carrington, North Dakota to see her old hometown and visit the old courthouse where her father had been a judge. She loved riding horses and was an active member in the Ladies Mounted Troop of the Jackson County Sheriff's Posse in the early 1940's. Her favorite poet was Robert Service and she entertained by reciting her favorite poem to everyone. She was proud being the matriarch of five generations.

Survivors include three sons, Donald of Central Point, Bernard Jr. (Hap) of Medford, Evan of Phoenix; one daughter, Dorothy of Central Point; one brother, Wallace Don of Fresno, Calif.; seven grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and three great great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, B.M. Thumler in January, 1970; brothers, Gorden and Bruce; sister, Jeanne; one infant grandson and infant great granddaughter.

Arrangements are made by Memory Gardens Mortuary.

Mrs. Thumler's family requests in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Providence Community Health Foundation Hospice, 1111 Crater Lake Ave., Medford, OR 97504.

Leon Yates
Leon Yates, 76, died March 15, 2006 at Providence Hospital in Medford.

Leon was born January 11, 1930 in Kalispell, Montana to Leon and Violet Yates. On August 21, 1954 in Issaquah, Wash. he married Delphine, who survives.

He was a civil engineering drafting technician for the city of Los Angeles. He attended Washington State University. His hobbies were fishing with his grandchildren and computers. He was a seniors' ministry leader at RVCC. He also belonged to RSVP (Call a Ride) and was a 15 gallon blood donor. He served in the Army during the Korean conflict.

He is survived by his son, James A. Yates of Kent, Wash.; daughters, Diane DeFrees of San Jose, Calif., Karen Thompson of Marysville, Wash., Marjorie Gilbert of Harrisburg, N.C.; sisters, Pearl Wiechmann of Wagner, S.D., Ruth Enos of Colfax, Wash., Marilee Martin of Pullman, Wash.; brothers, David of Lacey, Wash., Robert of Spokane, Wash., Wilbur of Spokane, Wash., Dale of Centerville, Utah, John of Stuttgart, Germany, Larry of Spokane, Wash.; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.

The funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 19th at 3:00 p.m. at the Rogue Valley Christian Church with Tim Shields officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Rogue Valley Christian Church, Missions Program.

Oral L. Bell
Oral L. Bell, 86, of Medford, died Friday, March 10, 2006 at Providence Medical Center. Funeral Services will be conducted Friday, March 17, 2006, at 1:00 pm, by Bishop Gary Trapp, of the Medford Second Ward, at The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter-day Saints, located at 2141 Brookhurst, Medford, OR. Family will be paying their last respects from 12:00 noon to 12:40 pm. in the Relief Society Room at the above location. Burial will be at 3:00 pm with military honors at the Eagle Point National cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Oral and Helen Bell Educational Foundation, P. O. Box 1203, Medford, OR 97501.

Oral was born Nov. 15, 1919 to Earl Miller Bell and Amelia Marie West at Iowa Colony, TX. He grew up in Rising Star, TX. He often worked with his Dad as a young boy drilling water wells. He graduated from Rising Star High School in 1936 at age 16. He married Helen Jackson, June 6, 1941 in Alice, TX. They met while they were working for the Rialto and Rex theaters in Alice, TX. When the war came he enlisted as a single man in the Army Air Corp. on Dec. 9, 1941 because he wanted to be a pilot but the Army made him a cook and later promoted him to Sergeant. He served eleven months and was discharged due to a heart condition which forty years later was discovered to be a hole in his heart. It is thought by his doctors that he may be the longest known survivor of this defect.

Oral relocated his family to Portland, OR after the war where all their possessions were lost in the Vanport flood about 1948. The Red Cross, Salvation Army, and the companies Oral and Helen worked for were very helpful in getting them set up again. Oral graduated with a two-year accounting certificate from Binkey Walker Business College. In Oct. 1950 he went to work for the Internal Revenue Service. His first transfer was to Medford in 1952, about 1957 he was transferred to Roseburg but returned home to Medford in 1960. He retired in 1971, due to a stroke but learned to walk and talk again. He carried on with his interests in property management and building to the very end.

Oral is survived by his wife, Helen and four children, Dudley Bell of Central Point, Laura Tharp of Klamath Falls, Rebekah McConnel of Pocatello, Idaho, and Loretta Dalton of Patterson, CA. His 12 Grandchildren are Daniel and David Bell, Amie Phillips, Drew, Tyler, Darren and Misty Dalton, Lacy Fellers, Bryan, James, and Michael McConnel and Alex Tharp. At this counting there are 8 great grand children whom Oral knew and loved. The parents, brother and four sisters Oral loved all preceded him in crossing the veil to the other side.

Beverly J. Kenyon
Beverly J. Kenyon, age 85, died March 16, 2006 in Medford. She was born on December 9, 1920, in Sebeka, Minnesota. Funeral arrangements are pending with Perl Funeral Home and Siskiyou Memorial Park of Medford, Oregon.

Jeanne Kowalski
Jeanne Kowalski, 86, of Ashland, passed away Thursday, March 16, 2006 at Linda Vista Care Center. Arrangements by Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives.

Myrtle Selig
Myrtle Selig, 84, of Brookings, passed away Wednesday, March 15, 2006 at Rogue Valley Medical Center. Arrangements by Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives.

Raymond Earl Reed
Raymond Earl Reed, 67, died March 14, 2006 at Veterans Hospital in Kansas City, Mo. He had lived in Grants Pass and Central Point for several years. Arrangements by Chaput-Buoy Funeral Home of Concordia (785) 243-2121

Cynthia L. Perdue
The public funeral service for Cindy Perdue will be on Wednesday, March 15, at 2:30 p.m. in the Memory Gardens Mortuary Chapel, 1395 Arnold Lane, Medford, Oregon. Don Hildebrand, Chaplain from the Rogue Valley Manor, will be officiating. Private burial will be in Memory Gardens Memorial Park.

Cindy, 53, of Central Point, passed away Monday, March 13, 2006 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was born February 12, 1953 to Lloyd and Sally Fellas. She grew up as one of three children where she graduated in June, 1971 from Banks High School. She attended Southern Oregon College where she received her Bachelors degree in Education. On June 14, 1975, she married Bill G. Perdue. They made their home in Southern Oregon where they raised their two daughters, Andrea and Kara. Cindy was a very dedicated parent, supporting her daughters and their teammates in all activities. She especially loved watching her daughters play softball. Cindy always made their home a second home for all who entered.

For the last eleven years, she worked for American Linen as their payroll accountant. Prior to that, Cindy was a substitute English teacher, then she retired as a Manager of K-Mart after 20+ years. Cindy was a friend to all who knew her and she will be missed dearly by everyone whose lives she touched.

Survivors include her husband, Bill Perdue; and two daughters, Andrea Megan Perdue, Medford and Kara Michell Perdue, Central Point; her parents, Lloyd and Sally Fellas, Banks, OR; a sister, Joan Smith, Gresham; and a brother, Cecil Fellas, Portland.

Contributions in memory of Cindy Perdue may be made at any Washington Mutual branch to support the Crater High School Softball Program or directly to Providence Hospice in Medford, OR. Arrangements by Memory Gardens Mortuary.

Eugene Rufus Beasly
Eugene Rufus Beasly, 85, died Tuesday, February 28, 2006, at the Oregon Veterans Home in The Dalles, Oregon.

He was born on a homestead close to Merrill, Oregon, on October 8, 1920, the sixth of eight children born to Rufus and Myrtle Beasly. Following graduation from Merrill High School in 1938, Gene moved to Burbank, California, where he worked as a sheet metalist building aircraft for Lockheed. He joined the navy when WWII started and was stationed in San Diego and later Pearl Harbor.

On February 14, 1944, he married Lila Louise Bowman, his high school sweetheart and ranched in the Merrill area. After living in Pasco, Washington for two years, they moved to the Rogue Valley where he delivered fuel oil for many years. They moved to Umatilla, Oregon, where he retired from his job as an accountant in 1985. After Louise passed away in 1995, Gene moved back to his hometown of Merrill.

He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and a devoted Christian, Masonic Lodge and Order of Eastern Star. He enjoyed the outdoors including fishing and camping. He was an accomplished woodworker, and loved music.

Gene is survived by his two daughters and their husbands, Sandra and Jay Heath of Medford and Sheila and Mike Schweizer of Corvallis; four grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and four sisters. He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, and three brothers.

A memorial service will be held at the Merrill Presbyterian Church on Monday, March 27, 2006 at 1:00 p.m.
