Una Irene Robertson Burke

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, in Adams cemetery near Molalla for Una Irene Robertson Burke, who died Oct. 12 at age 88. Mrs. Burke was born July 30, 1912, in Grape Creek, Texas. Her maiden name was Tillery. She grew up in Texas and moved to Butteville in 1943. She moved to Molalla the next year, then to Mulino in 1953 and Woodburn in 1958. She and her husband owned and operated Burke's Big Wheel, a drive-in restaurant in Woodburn, until they sold it and retired. In 1958, she married Glen Elvin Burke; he died in 1981.

Survivors include her sons, Johnny L. Robertson, Jerry Robertson and Jack Robertson; daughters, Peggy Sue Whittle and Patti Burke; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

The family suggests remembrances to the Oregon chapter of the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are by Molalla Funeral Chapel.

Andrew Lewis Cleveland

A memorial gathering will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, in the Scappoose home of Julie Cleveland for Andrew Lewis Cleveland, who died Oct. 5 at age 81. Mr. Cleveland was born Feb. 2, 1919, in Beatrice, Neb., and moved to Portland in the late 1930s. He was a merchant seaman for 32 years, including during World War II and the Korean and Vietnam wars. Afterward, he was a custodian at Benson High School and then George Elementary School until the mid-1980s. In 1948, he married Vi Gilholm; she died in 1991.

Survivors include his daughters, Kerry Ann Cross and Julie Cleveland; son, Gary; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. His son Andrew L. III died in 1997.

Disposition is by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to Legacy VNA Hospice. Arrangements are by Portland Funeral Alternatives.

John A. Cook

A funeral will be at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, in Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel in Vancouver, Wash., for John A. "Jack" Cook, who died Oct. 10 of prostate cancer at age 69. Mr. Cook was born April 10, 1931, in Newberg. He moved to Vancouver as a child and graduated from Vancouver High School in 1949. He served in the U.S. Navy. He was a drybelt trucker for Fort Vancouver Plywood for over 40 years until his retirement. In 1950, he married Marjorie Riggs.

Survivors include his wife; sons, David and Jim; daughters, Jennie Manning and Dianna Fenton; brother, James L.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens cemetery in Vancouver. The family suggests remembrances to Hospice Southwest, P.O. Box 1600, Vancouver, WA 98668.

Ray Dahl

A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, in Forest Lawn cemetery in Gresham for Ray Dahl, who died Oct. 11 at age 85. Mr. Dahl was born Jan. 26, 1915, in Gresham. He graduated from Gresham High School. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. He was a meter reader and later credit supervisor for Portland General Electric Co. for over 30 years until his retirement in 1982. In 1941, he married Vermell Copeland.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Penny Hodge and Raylene Bestel; sister, Loretta Metzger; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

The family suggests remembrances to the Oregon chapter of the American Diabetes Association. Arrangements are by Bateman-Carroll Funeral Chapel.

A memorial Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 16, 2000, in St. Mary's Catholic Cathedral for Hortense Barbara Burkhardt Davis, who died Oct. 4 at age 95.

Mrs. Davis was born Oct. 28, 1904, in Portland. Her maiden name was Burkhardt. She graduated from Lincoln High School. She was a florist for the family floral business until becoming a homemaker. She was a member of St. Cecilia Catholic Church. In 1947, she married Martin K. Davis; he died in 1985.

Survivors include her sons, Michael and Peter; sisters, Flora Erfeldt and Maieli Smith; and one grandchild.

Interment will be in Willamette National cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to the Christ Child Society, 130 S.W. 68th Ave., Portland, OR 97225. Arrangements are by Skyline Funeral Home.

Manuel Joseph Dopico

A celebration of life will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, 2000, in McAuley Terrace for Manuel Joseph Dopico, who died Oct. 11 at age 89. Mr. Dopico was born Feb. 23, 1911, in El Seijo, Spain. He was educated in England. He immigrated to New York City in 1937 and was a partner and president of the buying office for a department store located in Havana. He then was a manufacturer's representative for Caribbean and South American stores from 1960 until his retirement in 1978. He moved to North Carolina in 1978 and then to Philadelphia in 1985 before moving to Portland in 1995. He was a Spanish teacher for the Montessori preschool at McAuley Terrace. In 1939, he married Marie Propeack; she died last year.

Survivors include his daughter, Anita D. Taylor; sister, Natalia Torrente; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Interment will be in Holy Trinity Church cemetery in Simpson, Pa. The family suggests remembrances to McAuley Terrace for the development of an intergenerational garden. Arrangements are by Joseph W. Scotchlas Funeral Home in Simpson, Pa.

Ethelda J. Craig

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, in Forest Grove United Church of Christ for Ethelda J. Craig, who died Jan. 19 at age 94. Mrs. Craig was born Jan. 9, 1907, in Dilley. Her maiden name was O'Neil. Her family moved to Milwaukee, Wis., when she was 11-years-old. She graduated from Oregon Agricultural College and received a master's degree in botany from Grinnell College in Iowa. She lived in Grinnell and Seattle before returning to Corvallis in 1938. She moved to Cornelius in 1973. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the church. She was past worthy matron of the Order of Eastern Star five times for two chapters. In 1929, she married Willard M. Craig; he died in 1967.

Survivors include her daughters, Alice J. Branton and Mary K. Welch; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Interment will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Park in Corvallis. The family suggests remembrances to the endowment fund of the Masonic & Eastern Star Home. Arrangements are by Fuiten, Rose & Hoyt Funeral Home.

Dona Lee Young

Dona Lee Young died Jan. 19, 2001, of a brain tumor at age 43. A private service will be held. Ms. Young was born March 7, 1957, in Tucson, Ariz., and was raised in Portland. She graduated from Cleveland High School and was an auditor for John Hancock Insurance until the 1980s. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Survivors include her brother, Raymond E.; aunt, Edith Birchman; and companion, Anthony Moe.

Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Catholic cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to Doernbecher Children's Hospital. Arrangements are by Omega Funeral & Cremation Service.

Kin Winson

Kin Winson died Jan. 13, 2001, of a gunshot wound at age 23. A service was held in Blackfoot, Idaho. Mr. Winson was born June 9, 1977, in Blackfoot. He graduated from Devry Institute of Technology in Phoenix, Ariz., and moved to Hillsboro in 1999, where was a computer technician at Credence Corp. In 1999, he married Nicole Romo.

Survivors include his wife; son, Brodie; parents, Albert and Helen; sisters, Annetta Leavitt and Rochelle Crystal; grandmothers, Dorothy Winson and Pearl Gardner.

Interment is in Groveland cemetery in Blackfoot. Arrangements are by Bronleewe-Bass Funeral Home.

Jean L. Winge

Jean L. Winge died Jan. 18, 2001, of multiple sclerosis at age 64. No service will be held. Mrs. Winge was born July 4, 1936, in Portland. Her maiden name was Lincoln. She graduated from Grant High School and later received medical training in Portland. She was an office manager for a doctor's office until retiring in 1995. In 1989, she married Thomas Winge.

Survivors include her husband; daughters, Lisa Rauch and Leslie K. Runckel; stepdaughters, Dana Winge, Robin Winge and Leslie A. Hobbs; and nine grandchildren.

Interment will be in Willamette National cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Portland. Arrangements are by Finley's Sunset Hills Mortuary.

Mae E. Wilson

A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2001, in St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Canby for Mae E. Wilson, who died Jan. 20 at age 85. Mrs. Wilson was born Feb. 2, 1915, in Oregon City and was raised in Canby. Her maiden name was Nieland. She graduated from Canby High School in 1934. She was a checker for Cutsforth's Thriftway in Canby for more than 20 years, retiring in 1980. She was a member of the church. In 1934, she married Joseph L. Johnson; they were later divorced. In 1953, she married John Kramer; he died in 1970. In 1971, she married Richard Wilson; he died in 1993.

Survivors include her son, Kenneth Johnson; daughter, JoAnn Walch; sister, Eleanor Blessing; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Interment will be in Willamette National cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to the Canby Adult Center. Arrangements are by Canby Funeral Chapel.

Edna M. Wilkening

Edna M. Wilkening died Jan. 14, 2001, at age 85. A private service will be held. Mrs. Wilkening was born Jan. 8, 1916, in Portland, where she lived all her life. Her maiden name was Johnson. She attended Girls Polytechnic High School and Parkrose High School. She was a homemaker and a foster mother for more than 20 children for about 30 years. In 1938, she married John W. Wilkening; he died in 1999.

Survivors include her son, Bob; daughters, Joan Loop, Sandy Caldwell, Patty Sargant and Charlene Ricketts; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Interment is in Willamette National cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to a hospice of choice. Arrangements are by Gable & Parkrose Funeral Chapel.

Marie C. Ursu

Marie C. Ursu died Jan. 17, 2001, of cancer at age 70. A funeral will be held in Salem, Ohio. Mrs. Ursu was born Oct. 31, 1930, in Chewelah, Wash., and was reared in Salem, Ohio. Her maiden name was Olsen. In 1974, she moved to Boring, where she was vice president of Allied Industrial Sales, the family business, and also was a waitress for Gresham Elks Lodge No. 1805 for 15 years, retiring in 1990. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Salem, Ohio. In 1950, she married George Ursu.

Survivors include her husband; daughter, Patricia Counts; and two grandchildren. Her son, George Jr., died in 1971.

Interment will be in Hope cemetery in Salem, Ohio. The family suggests remembrances to the Clackamas County Chapter of Mothers Against Drunk Driving, P.O. Box 1214, Oregon City, OR 97045. Arrangements are by Gresham Funeral Chapel.
