Lois Elsie Miller

Lois Elsie Miller died Dec. 12, 2000, at age 75. No service will be held. Mrs. Miller was born Jan. 19, 1925, in Yakima. Her maiden name was Beardslee. She moved to Portland in the early 1970s, to Grants Pass in 1984 and returned to Portland last July. She was an office clerk and sales clerk before her retirement in 1978. In 1979, she married Wayne B. Miller.

Survivors include her husband; daughter, Jean M. Bukowsky; sons, Dennis R. Humbird and James D. Humbird; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Disposition is by cremation. Arrangements are by Autumn Funerals & Cremations.

Mary Dell Werner Jones

A memorial gathering will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, in her son Bruce's home for Mary Dell "Tiger" Werner Jones, who died Jan. 14 of leukemia at age 75.

Mrs. Jones was born Oct. 18, 1925, in Casper, Wyo. Her maiden name was Werner. During World War II, she worked for the United Service Organizations in Montana. She moved to Portland about 1950. She was a mail handler for the U.S. Postal Service before retiring about 1973 and then was a teacher for Urban 4-H. She also was a bartender for bars and restaurants. After retiring from the Postal Service, she managed Pinehurst Motel and Apartments until 1993. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school.

Survivors include her sons, R. Bruce Dusterhoff and Melvin W. Jones Jr.; daughters, D'Ann A. Parrent and Renee J. Pyle; sister, Arlene J. Schaefer; and six grandchildren.

Disposition is by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Arrangements are by Aftercare Cremation & Burial Service.

Dorothy Marie Tapfer

A funeral Mass will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, in St. Ignatius Catholic Church for Dorothy Marie Tapfer, who died Jan. 18 at age 79. A vigil prayer service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 21, in Gateway Little Chapel of the Chimes. Mrs. Tapfer was born April 24, 1921, in Chicago. Her maiden name was Kosner. She moved to Portland in 1947 and was an office worker in the business department of Pacific Northwest Bell for about 10 years until becoming a homemaker. She was a member of the church. In 1947, she married Raymond C. Tapfer; he died in 1987.

Survivors include her sons, Michael and James; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Interment is in Willamette National cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to Shriners Hospitals for Children.

Harry Don Wright

A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, in Gateway Community Church, 1235 E St., Washougal, Wash., for Harry Don Wright, who died Jan. 16 at age 72. Mr. Wright was born May 1, 1928, in Portland. He graduated from Washington High School and served in the U.S. Navy. He was a body and fender man for several companies and then owned his own wrecking yard for 10 years. He later retired from Allstate Insurance as a property claims manager in 1988. In 1947, he married Bernice Darnell.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Lynn Roath and Kim Plumb; sisters, Marguerite Hawkins and Nancy Donnelly; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. His son, Bruce, died in 1991.

Private interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Gardens cemetery in Vancouver, Wash. The family suggests remembrances to Doernbecher Children's Hospital. Arrangements are by Brown's Funeral Home in Camas, Wash.

Oscar Boehler

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001, in Columbia Funeral Home in St. Helens for Oscar Boehler, who died Jan. 12 at age 86 Mr. Boehler was born Oct. 11, 1914, in Herreid, S.D. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army. He then lived in Yakima, where he was a well driller and the owner of Oscar's Sausage Kitchen. He later was a cattle rancher in Goldendale, Wash., until the mid-1990s, and he moved to St. Helens last year.

Survivors include his daughters, Donna Costello, Glenda Boehler and Shirley Clark; sisters, Edna Wittmeier and Hilda Boehler; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Private interment will be in Columbia Memorial Gardens in Scappoose. The family suggests remembrances to the school fund of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1207 S. Seventh Ave., Yakima, WA 98902.

Evalena Estelle Conway

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001, in Mount Angel Towers in Mount Angel for Evalena Estelle "Lena" Conway, who died Jan. 5 at age 95. Mrs. Conway was born Feb. 20, 1905, in Hodges, Ala. Her maiden name was Downs. She was a telephone operator in Fresno, Calif., for 20 years, and in 1944 moved to Grants Pass, where she and her husband owned the Court Conway grocery store until retiring in the late 1960s. She then lived in Salem and Mount Angel before moving to Portland in October of last year. In 1932, she married Owen Conway; he died in 1985.

Survivors include her daughter, Connie Smith; son, Daniel G.; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Disposition is by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to Willamette Falls Hospice. Arrangements are by Unger Funeral Chapel in Mount Angel.

Gerald Paul Dreiling

A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, in the chapel of Gethsemani Catholic cemetery for Gerald Paul Dreiling, who died Jan. 12 of cancer at age 64. Mr. Dreiling was born Jan. 27, 1936, in Portland. He graduated from Washington High School in 1954 and worked for Cascade Corporation for 43 years, retiring as a senior corporate manager in 1997. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves. After his retirement, he moved to Crooked River Ranch. Last August, he moved to Redmond. He was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Redmond and a was a former member of St. Therese Catholic Church in Portland and St. John of the Woods Catholic Church in Welches. In 1955, he married Carol Unruh.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Julie Howland, Cindy Pollard and Becky Normand; brother, Jim; sisters, Frances Siebold and Teresa Betthauser; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family suggests remembrances to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are by Autumn Funerals in Redmond.

Lealand Park Hudson

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, in Macy & Son Funeral Directors for Lealand Park "Lee" Hudson, who died Jan. 12 at age 85. Mr. Hudson was born Jan. 23, 1915, in Alicel and was raised in Joseph. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army. From 1940 until 1960, he owned the Hudson Cafe in McMinnville. From the early 1950s until the late 1980s, he also owned a commercial fishing and crabbing business out of Warrenton and Astoria, and from the 1960s until 1989, owned Thunderbird Charters out of Astoria. He was a salesman for Lambeth Rope for 20 years before retiring in the early 1980s. He was a volunteer Oregon ombudsman. In 1939, he married Delpha Mae Chodrick; she died in 1989.

Survivors include his daughter, Dolores Rich; sisters, Reta Cruson and Colleen Everhart; brother, Gordon; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Disposition is by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to Shriners Hospitals for Children.

Audrey 'Judy' Kuns

Audrey "Judy" Kuns died Jan. 6, 2001, at age 75. There will be no service. Mrs. Kuns was born Dec. 16, 1925, in Myrtle Creek. Her maiden name was Brakebush. She grew up in Portland and attended Franklin High School. She was a bookkeeper for Silver Eagle Trucking for more than 10 years before retiring in 1987. In the mid-1970s, she married Rocco Accettura; he died in 1988.

Survivors include her daughter, Terry L. Sample; brother, Harold Brakebush; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Kuns donated her body to Oregon Health Sciences University for medical research. The family suggests remembrances to the Oregon Health Sciences University Foundation. Arrangements were by Gateway Little Chapel of the Chimes.

Donald Bruce Lunzman

A memorial service will be at noon Thursday, Jan. 18, 2001, in Community Presbyterian Church in Cannon Beach for Donald Bruce Lunzman, who died Jan. 5 of pancreatic cancer in Seaside at age 56. Mr. Lunzman was born Sept. 5, 1944, in Vancouver, Wash., and grew up in Manning and Banks. He owned the Tolovana Park General Store for the past 22 years. In 1976, he married Constance J. Carlson.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Nick, Casey and Andy; parents, Woody and Milly; brother, Richard; and sister, Barbara Berini.

Disposition is by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to any hospice. Arrangements are by Heritage Memorial.

Dyas W. Rawlings

Dyas W. Rawlings died Jan. 12, 2001, at age 84. A private service was held. Mr. Rawlings was born Oct. 24, 1916, in Deer Lodge, Mont., where he was raised. He moved in 1950 to the Portland area and owned and operated a Northeast Portland shoe repair shop, retiring in the late 1970s. He moved in 1994 to Rainier. In 1948, he married Lila Anderson; she died in 1992.

Survivors include his nephews, Dale D. and Lincoln; nieces, Lorrie Chinn and Lynn Ori.

Disposition is by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to the Izaak Walton League Endowment. Arrangements were by Gateway Little Chapel of the Chimes.

Lloyd M. Reed

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Feb. 17, 2001, in Simon-Woodburn Funeral Chapel for Lloyd M. Reed, who died Jan. 3 at age 87. Mr. Reed was born Feb. 24, 1913, in Oklahoma City. In 1929, he moved to Lindsay, Calif. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy. He was plumber for the Navy's Moffett Field in California for 26 years and moved to Lebanon after retiring in 1971. He moved in 1980 to Woodburn. In 1945, he married Mildred DeLano.

Survivors include his wife; daughter, Candis Pomeroy; son, Dwayne; a nephew he raised, Larry DeLano; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Disposition is by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Heman Parker Spalding

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001, in McMinnville First Baptist Church for Heman Parker Spalding, who died Jan. 14 of a stroke at age 74. Mr. Spalding was born May 29, 1926, in Chicago. He attended Michigan State University. He then lived in Oakland, Calif., and Danville, Calif., and was a salesman for Brown & Haley Candy from the mid-1950s until his retirement in 1991, when he moved to McMinnville. He was a member of the church. In 1949, he married Irma L. Nordhausen; she died in 1997. In 1998, he married Monta Cohoon.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Carl, David, Donald and Glen; stepsons, Dean Cohoon and Michael Cohoon; stepdaughters, Virginia Costanzo and Susan Schultz; and four grandchildren.

Disposition is by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to his church's endowment fund. Arrangements are by Macy & Son Funeral Directors.
