Walter S. Tripp

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 5, 2001, in Bateman-Carroll Funeral Chapel for Walter S. Tripp, who died Dec. 27, 2000, of congestive heart failure at age 69. Mr. Tripp was born Sept. 22, 1931, in Myrtle Point. He served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War and moved in 1955 to Portland. He was a truck driver for IML and then for other trucking companies, retiring from Stuart Stiles in 1992. In 1958, he married Dorothy Miller; they divorced.

Survivors include his sons, Kenneth, David and Jeffrey; daughter, Kimberly; sisters, Lola Gant, Ann Williams and Faye Perry; and five grandchildren.

Interment will be in Willamette National cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to the American Heart Association.

Georgia Lee Whitney

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 5, 2001, in Orenco Presbyterian Church for Georgia Lee Whitney, who died Dec. 31, 2000, of a heart attack at age 65. Mrs. Whitney was born Aug. 2, 1935, in Coalgood, Ky., and was raised in Portland. Her maiden name was Goodin. She graduated from Washington High School and was a clerk in the Raleigh Hills Fred Meyer for the past 12 years. In 1951, she married Earl F. Whitney.

Survivors include her husband; sons, Jack, Tom and Mark; sisters, Charlotte Johnson and Barbara Myers; brother, Scott Goodin; and five grandchildren.

Disposition is by cremation. Arrangements are by Autumn Funerals & Cremations.

Charles F. Wright

A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 5, 2001, in Mt. Scott Funeral Home for Charles F. Wright, who died Jan. 1 of congestive heart failure at age 74. Mr. Wright was born March 24, 1926, in Janesville, Wis. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific. He moved to Gresham in 1956 and lived in Estacada and Portland before moving to Salem four years ago. He drove trucks for Albina Fuel for about 25 years, retiring in 1988. He married Guaraldine Stansberry in 1946.

Survivors include his wife; son, Roger O.; daughters, Angel L. Carter, Gloria J. Smith, Diana L. Wrightsmith, Sharon M. Waltenberg and Charleen F. Burman; brothers, Richard J. and John W.; sisters, Elizabeth Lampien and Lyda Detert; 25 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Interment is in Willamette National cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to a favorite charity.

Georgia Lee Whitney

Amy Elizabeth Bozarth

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001, in Bateman-Carroll Funeral Chapel for Amy Elizabeth Bozarth, who died Dec. 28, 2000, at age 102. Mrs. Bozarth was born June 5, 1898, in Pleasant Home. She was raised in Anderson Station, near Gresham, and in Portland. Her maiden name was Harris. She attended Washington High School. She managed Cherry Blossom Mobile Court with her husband from 1964 until retiring in 1986. In 1921, she married Cecil Bozarth; he died in 1988.

Survivors include her son, Jack R. Sr.; one grandchild; seven great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Disposition is by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to the American Cancer Society.

Edith M. Carlson

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, in Macy & Son Funeral Directors for Edith M. Carlson, who died Dec. 31, 2000, at age 93. Mrs. Carlson was born Feb. 1, 1907, in Dover. Her maiden name was Bird. She lived in several areas of Oregon before moving to Portland in the 1970s and was a homemaker and also a seasonal farm laborer before retiring in the late 1980s. In 1940, she married Pete Carlson; he died in 1979.

Survivors include her sons, Ben Benson and Robert Benson; brother, Clayton Laugherty; sister, Viola Okesson; 14 grandchildren; and great-grandchildren. Her son Alfred Benson died in 1998.

Private interment will be in Evergreen Memorial Park in McMinnville. The family suggests remembrances to Providence Hospice.

Vern Ford

Vern Ford died Dec. 18, 2000, of lung cancer at age 73. A service was held. Mr. Ford was born July 12, 1927, in Portland, where he lived all his life. He graduated from Commerce High School and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific. He returned to Portland and was a meat cutter for several companies from 1946 until 1986, and then was a carpenter for the next 10 years. In 1965, he married Edna Ruth Erner.

Survivors include his wife; daughter, Jan Lawry; stepdaughter, Ella Ekstrom; sons, Mike, Craig, Scott and Mark; 16 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

The family suggests remembrances to Mt. Hood Hospice. Arrangements are by Crown Cremation & Funeral Services.

Peter William Grewenow

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, in St. Luke Lutheran Church for Peter William Grewenow, who died Dec. 20, 2000, of lung cancer at age 49. Mr. Grewenow was born March 14, 1951, in Seattle and as a child moved to Portland, where he graduated from Parkrose High School. He received a bachelor's degree from Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma and a master's degree in art history from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. He was a curator of visual resources for Boston and Columbia universities before returning to Seattle in 1991, when be became the slide-library curator for the University of Washington College of Architecture and Urban Planning.

Survivors include his mother, Esther D.; brother, Ronald D.; and two nieces.

Disposition is by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to the slide library at the University of Washington College of Architecture and Urban Planning. Arrangements were by Bonney-Watson Funeral Directors in Seattle.

Henry Charles Hunt

Henry Charles Hunt died Dec. 25, 2000, at age 76. A private service will be held. Mr. Hunt was born June 13, 1924, in Banks and was raised there and in Hillsboro. He graduated in 1942 from Hillsboro High School. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy. Afterward, he received bachelor's and master's degrees from Lewis & Clark College and his doctorate from the University of Portland. He was an elementary school teacher in Rockaway Beach, then a principal in Cannon Beach and in Columbus and Newby Schools in McMinnville for 16 years and superintendent of schools for Rogue River for two years and then for Winston for 14 years before his retirement in 1984. He was a past president of McMinnville Kiwanis. In 1949, he married Lorraine DuBois.

Survivors include his wife; son, Gary; and sister, Jackie Simpson.

Interment will be in Willamette National cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to Alzheimer's Association. Arrangements are by Donelson, Sewell & Mathews Mortuary.

Joseph Edward Lance

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001, in Holman-Hankins-Bowker & Waud Funeral Home in Oregon City for Joseph Edward Lance, who died Dec. 30, 2000, at age 94. Mr. Lance was born June 22, 1906, in Bridgeport, Wash., and moved to a farm near Corvallis as a child. He attended Oregon Agricultural College (now OSU) and farmed in Albany and then Corvallis until the early 1950s. He sold real estate after moving to the Portland area from Eugene in 1957 and retired in the 1970s. He was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Tabernacle and volunteered with Portland Adventist Community Services. In 1933, he married Dorothy Lund; they later divorced. He married Mary McCraw in 1971; she died in 1994.

Survivors include his daughters, Jody Fletcher and Deanna Fulton, Mischele Friberg and Zeta Rennie; son, John R.; brother, Robert V.; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Interment will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Park in Corvallis. The family suggests remembrances to the Portland Adventist Community Services.

Mable I. Miller

A funeral will be at 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001, in Bateman Carroll Funeral Chapel for Mable I. Miller, who died Dec. 31, 2000, of cancer at age 67. Mrs. Miller was born March 7, 1933, in Roaring Springs, Texas. Her maiden name was Gwinn. She moved to Portland in 1964 and was a student loan clerk in the business office of Reed College for 28 years before her retirement in 1995. In 1978, she married Donald Miller.

Survivors include her husband; daughter, Betty Ann Lynch; son, Hugh B. Lynch; brothers, George Gwinn, Benny Gwinn, Charles Gwinn and James Gwinn; sisters, Bonnie Fullingim, Marilyn Holcomb, Aly Gwinn and Josie Raetz; and two grandchildren.

Interment will be in Willamette National cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to Kaiser Hospice.

James R. Mol

A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001, in the First Presbyterian Church in Corvallis for James R. Mol, who died Dec. 23, 2000, at age 70. Mr. Mol was born April 23, 1930, in Marshalltown, Iowa. During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Army. He graduated from Grinnell College in Iowa and earned a master's degree in 1956 from the University of Iowa. He spent the next 11 years in Portland training and working in administration at Emanuel Hospital, then he became an administrator at Good Samaritan Hospital in Corvallis. During his tenure, the hospital built its present campus and added short-stay and cancer-treatment centers. He retired in 1987. He was a past president of the Oregon Association of Hospitals and a fellow in the American College of Hospital Administrators. He was a member of the church. In 1954, he married Nancy E. Scruby.

Survivors include his wife; daughter, Cindy E. Newman; son, James M.; brother, Dr. Henry Mol; and three grandchildren.

Private interment will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Park. The family suggests remembrances to his church, 114 S.W. Eighth St., Corvallis, OR 97333. Arrangements are by DeMoss-Durdan Garden Chapel in Corvallis.

Julia Marceille Pollock

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, in Columbia Christian Church in Vancouver, Wash., for Julia Marceille Pollock, who died Dec. 20, 2000, of pancreatic cancer at age 81. Mrs. Pollock was born Feb. 21, 1919, in El Centro, Calif. Her maiden name was Shanafelt. She taught elementary school in Temple City, Calif., retiring in 1974. She moved to Vancouver in 1994. She was a member of the church. In 1946, she married Martin S. Pollock; he died in 1999.

Survivors include her daughters, Joyce E. Hansen and Grace M. Clerico; son, Tom; stepson, Lee; and nine grandchildren.

Interment is in Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier, Calif. The family suggests remembrances to Hospice Southwest in Vancouver. Arrangements are by Hamilton-Mylan Funeral Home.
