Margaret Clarissa Rupe

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000, in River View cemetery for Margaret Clarissa Rupe, who died Oct. 18 at age 86. Mrs. Rupe was born Feb. 21, 1914, in Haliberry, Ontario, and grew up in Juneau, Alaska; Valdez, Alaska; Seattle; and Tacoma. Her maiden name was Titus. She was a bookkeeper for Safeway and Totem stores and the Northern Pacific Railway before moving to Portland in 1951, and she later volunteered for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. She lived in Lake Oswego for the past 15 years and moved to Chattanooga, Tenn., in September. In 1939, she married Robert A. Rupe; he died in 1990.

Survivors include her son, Robert C.; and two grandchildren.

The family suggests remembrances to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Arrangements were by Lane Funeral Home in Chattanooga.

Robert Frederick Scholze Sr.

A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, in St. Francis Catholic Church in Sherwood for Robert Frederick Scholze Sr., who died Nov. 5 of lymphoma at age 84. Mr. Scholze was born Feb. 7, 1916, in Pittsburgh. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy. He moved to Portland in 1946. He was superintendent in charge of cargo for the International Longshore Workers Union Local 40 for about 30 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the church. He married Margaret Chapman in 1945.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Margaret R. Conant, Marian E. Hantke and Elizabeth J. Schmidt; sons, Robert F. Jr. and Jerome V.; brothers, James A. and Ferdinand J.; sister, Ellen G.; and seven grandchildren.

Disposition was by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to Kaiser Hospice. Arrangements are by Autumn Funerals & Cremations.

Lois Marie Tooze

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, in Gable & Parkrose Funeral Chapel for Lois Marie Tooze, who died Nov. 3 at age 87. Mrs. Tooze was born Sept. 19, 1913, in Clatskanie and was raised in Corbett. Her maiden name was Wolfe. She was a homemaker. In 1933, she married Francis Franklin Tooze; he died in 1982.

Survivors include her daughters, Donna M. Weiss and G. Elaine Thorns; sons, Frank D., Robert L. and Lloyd S.; sister, Betty Rose; 19 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Disposition was by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to a favorite charity.

Andrew S. Warden

Andrew S. "Andy" Warden died Oct. 25, 2000, at age 29. A private service will be held. Mr. Warden was born Jan. 18, 1971, in Los Angeles County, and was raised in Gresham. He graduated from Barlow High School in 1992. He was disabled and lived most of his life in the Gresham area. He was a member of the Native American Church.

Survivors include his parents, Kevin and Janis; sister, Sara Blair; and grandparents, Paul and Sue Warden and Betty Kruse.

Disposition was by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to the Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp. Arrangements are by Omega Funeral & Cremation Service.

Wendy Whitten

Wendy Whitten died Oct. 22, 2000, of cancer at age 45. A memorial service was held. Ms. Whitten was born Aug. 13, 1955, in Santa Maria, Calif. Her maiden name was Boyd. She moved in 1967 to Estacada and graduated in 1973 from Estacada High School. She was a florist, checker and office worker for Food Forum in Estacada for seven years and later a dump truck driver for Cassidy Rock for the past three years.

Survivors include her daughters, Jamie and Jennifer; son, Jason; mother, Gloria Cassidy; father, Bud Parker; brothers, Chris Boyd, Robert Parker and Glen Parker; sisters, Linda Romig, Rebecca Torik and Diane Van Schoyck; former husband, Michael Whitten; companion, Bud Williams; and one grandchild.

Disposition was by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements were by Crown Cremation & Burial Service.

Douglas Eugene Worth

A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000, in Willamette National cemetery for Douglas Eugene Worth, who died Nov. 3 of a heart attack at age 66. Mr. Worth was born Sept. 16, 1934, in Walla Walla and was raised in Portland. He attended Benson High School. He served in the U.S. Air Force. He was a truck driver for Vogel Brothers for 25 years, retiring in 1994.

Survivors include his sisters, Donna Edwards and Gloria Fleming; and companion, Janet Cranor. His son, Douglas E. Jr., died in infancy.

Arrangements are by Lincoln Willamette Funeral Directors.

LaVerne C. Krauser

LaVerne C. Krauser died Oct. 29, 2000, at age 89. No service will be held. Mrs. Krauser was born May 17, 1911, in Randall, S.D. Her maiden name was Dahlberg. She moved to Portland as a child and graduated from Jefferson High School. She was a bookkeeper for Copeland Lumber in Portland for several years until becoming a homemaker. She was a member of Unity Church of Portland. In 1941, she married Jack L. Krauser; he died in 1974.

Survivors include her son, Larry; and one grandchild.

Private interment will be in Portland Memorial Mausoleum. The family suggests remembrances to the Oregon Humane Society. Arrangements are by Portland Memorial Funeral Home.

Dorothy Lee Leggett

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, in New Hope Baptist Church for Dorothy "Dot" Lee Leggett, who died Nov. 1 at age 60. Mrs. Leggett was born Jan. 25, 1940, in Canton, Miss. Her maiden name was Palmer. She was raised in Mississippi. She was a homemaker who moved to Portland in 1968. She was a member of the church, served on its Mothers Board, and operated its food bank for the needy. In 1981, she married George W. Leggett; he died in 1991.

Survivors include her son, Walter Hardy Jr.; daughters, Marie Matthews, Denise Madison and Sandra Horne; father, Willie L. Palmer; sisters, Diane Tucker, Jeaneen Montgomery and Brenda Gordon; brothers, Leon Taylor, Vernard Taylor, Johnny Tucker, Charles Tucker and Cleveland Montgomery; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Interment will be in Rose City cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to her church. Arrangements are by Killingsworth Little Chapel of the Chimes.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, in Sunnyside Little Chapel of the Chimes for Russell C. "Shorty" MacClanathan, who died Nov. 2 at age 81.

Mr. MacClanathan was born May 25, 1919, in Craigville, Minn. He was raised in Minnesota. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific, and he later served a year in the Navy Seabees during the Korean War. He moved to Bend in 1938 and to West Linn in the mid-1940s. He was a maintenance worker for Crown Zellerbach for 30 years until retiring in the mid-1970s. In 1984, he moved to Clackamas. In 1986, he married Edith Eilick.

Survivors include his wife; daughter, Karen Ashby; son, Roland; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Disposition is by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to the American Heart Association. Arrangements are by Alpine Cremation and Burial Services.

Beryle 'Kay' Mills

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000, in Portland Memorial Funeral Home for Beryle "Kay" Mills, who died Nov. 3 at age 90. Mrs. Mills was born Oct. 9, 1910, in Rondo, Mo. Her maiden name was Chambers. She moved to Mapleton, Iowa, as a child and was raised there. She was a homemaker who lived in several locations, including Guam, San Diego, Oakland, Calif., and Seattle, due to her husband's military career. She moved to Oregon City in 1977. In 1928, she married Orry Bressler; they later divorced. In 1944, she married James E. Mills; he died in 1969.

Survivors include her daughter, Carol Hogan; son, James Bressler; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Disposition is by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to the Oregon City Hospice in care of Willamette Falls Hospital.

Adolf C. 'Dutch' Nielsen

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, in the Mt. Jefferson Room at Jennings McCall Center in Forest Grove for Adolf C. "Dutch" Nielsen, who died Nov. 1 at age 87. Another memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 6, in Amity Church of Christ. Mr. Nielsen was born Aug. 29, 1913, in Fargher Lake, Wash. He moved to Amity as a child and was raised there. He attended Oregon Technical Institute in Portland for two years and studied airplane mechanic training. He was a mechanic for United Airlines in Portland for two years and then an auto mechanic in McMinnville for a brief period. In 1947, he managed the family farm in Amity. He later was a small-motor mechanic for several companies, including Sherwood Equipment Co. in Sherwood, until retiring. He moved to Forest Grove in 1996. He was a member of the church. He was a charter member of the Lions Club in Amity and a volunteer with the Amity Fire Department for 37 years. He was mayor of Amity for several years. In 1945, he married Elma L. Reetz; she died in 1985.

Survivors include his daughters, Ruth Watson, Barbara Hampton and Jaci Woodard; and five grandchildren.

Interment will be in Amity cemetery in Amity. The family suggests remembrances to the Oregon chapter of the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are by Forest Grove Memorial Chapel.

Nelle G. Ross

A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, in Ross Hollywood Chapel for Nelle G. Ross, who died Nov. 2 at age 74. Mrs. Ross was born Feb. 15, 1926, in Montrose, Colo. Her maiden name was Sayre. She moved to Duluth, Minn., as a child and attended high school there. She graduated from the University of Minnesota with a music degree. She moved to Portland in 1945. She was a member of the New Life Singers for about 15 years and taught music for the Portland Public Schools for 25 years until retiring. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene and was church organist for 30 years. In 1950, she married Howard C. Ross; he died in 1998.

Survivors include her daughters, Roberta A. Brooks, Julia M. Wehrley and Melody L. Fix; sons, Robert R. and Donald M.; sister, Roberta Kendall; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Interment will be in Willamette National cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to her church.

Virginia B. Arndt

A memorial Mass will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, in St. John Catholic Church in Welches for Virginia B. Arndt, who died Nov. 1 at age 79. Mrs. Arndt was born Sept. 11, 1921, in Chicago. Her maiden name was Pavelchik. She was raised in Chicago and received nurse's training at a school affiliated with St. Anthony's Hospital in Chicago. She was a nurse anesthetist working in hospitals in the Chicago area until retiring. She moved to Sandy in 1992 and to Welches in 1994. She was a member of the church. She married Louis Arndt; he died in 1984.

Survivors include her daughters, Nanciann Arndt, Margaret Seifert and Mary Wengel; and five grandchildren.

Interment will be in St. Mary cemetery in Evergreen Park, Ill. The family suggests remembrances to the American Diabetes Association. Arrangements are by Sandy Funeral Home.
