Durwood Daniel Meskel

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 5, 2001, in Young's Funeral Home for Durwood Daniel Meskel, who died March 31 at age 70. Mr. Meskel was born Feb. 18, 1931, in Seneca, S.D., and was raised in Portland. He graduated from Lincoln High School and served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War. He was a truck driver for Fulton Meat for 19 years, retiring in 1995. He coached Little League Baseball in Tigard for eight years. In 1954, he married Dorothy "Jody" Muir.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Duke, Tim, Scott and Patrick; daughter, Karen Mayer; sisters, Ardice Larson and Beverly Braaten; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Remembrances to any hospice.

Anne Alice Wilcox

A funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 8, 2001, in Canby Funeral Chapel for Anne Alice Wilcox, who died April 5 at age 93.

Mrs. Wilcox was born Anne Alice Beuzenburg on June 6, 1907, in Brant, N.Y. She graduated from the University of Michigan and taught high school before becoming a homemaker. She moved to Portland area in 1945 and to King City in 1980. In 1934, she married Norman C. Wilcox.

Survivors include her husband; daughters, Saundra Huftalin and Lois Lin; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Interment in Zion Memorial cemetery in Canby. Remembrances to Lake Grove Presbyterian Church.

Ruth Covington Wonacott

A memorial service will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, in First Presbyterian Church in Portland for Ruth Covington Wonacott, who died Dec. 21, 2000, at age 90. Mrs. Wonacott was born Feb. 24, 1910, in Moscow, Idaho. She moved to Portland in 1920 and attended Grant High School. She graduated from the University of Oregon and was a legal secretary for the Portland law firm of Wood, Wood, Tatum, Moser and Brooke. She then received her law degree from Lewis & Clark Law School and continued working for the law firm as office manager and executive assistant, until retiring after 35 years. She then worked for an antique shop and later for an interior decorator. She was a member, deacon and elder of her church, and she sewed clothes for needy children.

Survivors include her daughter, Gaynor Wall; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Her son Charles died in 1962, and her son, Paul N. died in 1991.

Disposition is by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to the Salvation Army. Arrangements are by Caldwell's Colonial Chapel.

Dolly Treadway

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, in Oakdale Memorial Park in Glendora, Calif., for Dolly Treadway, who died Dec. 28, 2000, of cancer at age 92. Mrs. Treadway was born June 27, 1908, in Great Bend, Kan. Her maiden name was Bedell. She moved to Southern California as a teen-ager and was a riveter for Douglas Aircraft during World War II. She lived in Covina, Calif., from 1946 until moving to San Clemente, Calif., in 1984. She moved to Portland in July of 1999. In 1928, she married J. Wilson; he died in 1984.

Survivors include her daughters, Dolores Charron and Judy Gage; son, Dick; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

The family suggests remembrances to Willamette Falls Hospice. Arrangements are by Molalla Funeral Chapel.

Alice M. Stone

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Salem for Alice M. Stone who died Dec. 24, 2000, at age 92. Mrs. Stone was born June 23, 1908, in Portland. Her maiden name was Hearn. She graduated from St. Mary's Academy and completed her nursing training at St. Vincent Hospital. She moved to Salem in 1942 and was a nurse at the Oregon State Hospital from the mid-1950s until the early 1960s. Then she was a nurse for the Salem-Keizer School District until retiring in the early 1970s. She was president of the Marion-Polk County Medical Auxiliary from 1948 until 1949. She was a member of the church. In 1937, she married Dr. Willard J. Stone; he died in 1997.

Survivors include her sons, Jack and Michael; daughter, Jeanne Sweet; sister, Angela Hearn; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Catholic cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to the Salem Hospital Foundation, c/o Pediatrics, P.O. Box 14001, Salem, OR 97309. Arrangements are by Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service in Salem.

Margaret J. Brewer

Margaret J. Brewer died March 24, 2001, at age 78. Mrs. Brewer was born Jan. 29, 1923, in Portland. Her maiden name was Bailey. She was a volunteer secretary at Cedar Mills Community Church, of which she was a member, and then a librarian at Pacific University until retiring in 1986. In 1943, she married Richard Brewer; they were divorced.

Survivors include her daughter, Patricia Davies; sons Michael, John and David; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Private service. Remembrances to Margaret J. Brewer Memorial Fund at the Pacific University library. Arrangements by Fuiten, Rose & Hoyt .

Lorraine M. Brown

Lorraine M. Brown died April 8, 2001, at age 79. Mrs. Brown was born Lorraine Buckman on March 23, 1922, in Portland. She graduated from Grant High School. She was a deputy sheriff in Marion County for eight years and a corrections officer for Oregon State Correctional Institution for more than a year, retiring in 1980. In 1969, she married Alfred R. Brown; he died in 1982.

Survivors include her sons, Bradley C. Johnston and Lorren C. Johnston; daughters, Kathryn J. Cronk, Barbie J. Bartolome and Janis D. Johnson; sister, Dorothy June Hansen; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

No service. Arrangements by Crown Cremation..

Lois Emma Clifford

A funeral Mass will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2001, in St. John Fisher Catholic Church for Lois Emma Clifford, who died April 13 at age 74. Mrs. Clifford was born Lois Emma Ferris on April 16, 1926, in Portland. She graduated from Immaculata Academy in Portland. She was a homemaker and longtime member of the church. In 1946, she married Charles L. Clifford Sr.

Survivors include her husband; sons, Thomas, James, Ted, Gordon and Charles L. Jr.; daughters, Terry Pearson, Christine Miskimins, Susan Powers, Maureen Cahill and Caprice Lee; sisters, Wava Muck and Irma Binder; 30 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Her son Raymond A. died in 1995.

Interment in Mt. Calvary Catholic cemetery. Remembrances to the Alzheimer's Association. Arrangements by Riverview Abbey.

Kathleen M. Collier-Linn

A memorial service will be at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2001, in St. Philip's in the Hills Episcopal Church in Tucson, Ariz., for Kathleen M. Collier-Linn, who died April 6 at age 80. Mrs. Collier-Linn was born Kathleen M. McClintic on March 14, 1921, in Indianapolis. She was a homemaker who moved in 1952 from Indiana to Portland, in 1974 to Bandon and later to Tucson. In 1940, she married Kenneth W. Collier; he died in 1974. In the 1980s, she married George Linn; he died in 2000.

Survivors include her daughters, Christa Collier and Laurel Collier Decker; and three grandchildren.

Remembrances to the Lon Collier Memorial Scholarship Fund at Southern Oregon University. Arrangements by Bring Funeral Home in Tucson.

Eugene S. Enos

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, April 16, 2001, in the Gresham First Baptist Church for Eugene S. "Gene" Enos, who died April 11 at age 81. Mr. Enos was born Oct. 14, 1919, in Portland. He graduated from Edison Boys High School. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Forces in North Africa and Italy. He was an acoustical contractor estimator for Owens-Corning Fiberglass, Harver and then for Emert & Zednik, retiring in 1982. A 45-year member of the Highland Baptist Church, he sang in the choir, served on its board and taught in its Sunday school. He was also a Scout leader and coached Gateway Little League and Parkrose Babe Ruth Baseball. In 1949, he married Roberta Perkins.

Survivors include his wife; sons, David, Craig and Keith; brother, Earl; sisters, Frances Paul, Dorothy Strait and Myrtle Okasaki; and 10 grandchildren.

Interment in Willamette National cemetery. Remembrances to Gresham First Baptist Church. Arrangements by Affordable Funeral Alternatives.

Martha Louise Farren

Martha Louise Farren died April 6, 2001, at age 85. Mrs. Farren was born Martha Louise Holmes on May 16, 1915, in Heald, Texas. A homemaker, she moved to Lebanon in 1976 and to Forest Grove in 1987. In 1935, she married Archie Farren; he died in 1975.

Survivors include her sons, James and Fred; daughter, Helen McConnell; brothers, Bill Holmes and R.D. Holmes; six grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Private service. Remembrances to Washington County Hospice. Arrangements by Westside Cremation.

Luella A. Goldthwaite

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2001, in Riverview Abbey Funeral Home for Luella A. Goldthwaite, who died April 9 at age 82. Mrs. Goldthwaite was born Luella A. Meyer on July 18, 1918, in Wayne, Neb. She graduated from college in Nebraska and received a master's degree in Portland. She taught elementary school in Portland for 25 years and later was a librarian at David Douglas High School. In 1949, she married Richard H. Goldthwaite; he died in 1992.

Survivors include her brother, Leonard Meyer; and sisters, Janice Sticka, Marcella Jones and Violet Heikes.

Interment in Riverview Abbey Mausoleum. Remembrances to Trinity Lutheran Church in Hillsboro.

Emma Jean Hessler

Emma Jean Hessler died March 28, 2001, in The Dalles at age 77. Mrs. Hessler was born Emma Jean Alexander on Oct. 27, 1923, in Boonville, Ind. She moved to the Portland area in the 1960s. In 1981, she married John Hessler; he died in 1991.

Survivors include her sisters, Naomi Charlton, Pauline Kiser and Mary Jane Paulin.

Service held. Burial in Willamette National cemetery. Remembrances to the Whisper Glide fund at the Columbia Basin Nursing Home in The Dalles. Arrangements by St. John's Funeral Home.
