Clarence 'Louie' Simons

A service will be at 10 a.m. Monday, April 16, 2001, in Willamette National cemetery for Clarence "Louie" Simons, who died April 11 at age 68. A memorial service will follow at 2 p.m. in Central Church of the Nazarene in Portland. Mr. Simons was born Sept. 19, 1932, in North Bend. He served in the U.S. Army. He was a custodian for Portland Public Schools and the North Clackamas school district for about 34 years until his retirement in 1985. In 1978, he married Jean Dahlke; she died in 1990.

Survivors include his daughters, Kathy Buxton and Linda Shoops; stepdaughter, Jennie DeMaris; stepson, Floyd Dahlke; sisters, Anna Mae Bassett and Mary Brown; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. His stepson Steven Dahlke died in 1991.

Katherine J. Stevens

Katherine J. Stevens died April 9, 2001, at age 86. Miss Stevens was born April 29, 1914, in Milwaukie. She graduated from Washington High School and received bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Oregon. She was a mathematics teacher in Roseburg, Stanfield and Canby high schools and then at Milwaukie High School for 30 years before retiring in 1974. After her retirement, she was a volunteer for the Milwaukie Senior Center and for Republican political campaigns. She was a member of the Milwaukie Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include her brother, Howard; and nieces and nephews.

No service. Interment in Portland Memorial Mausoleum. Remembrances to a favorite charity. Arrangements by Portland Memorial.

Florence M. Stratch-Bacon

A funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday, April 16, 2001, in Memorial Gardens Funeral Home for Florence M. Stratch-Bacon, who died April 11 at age 95. Mrs. Stratch-Bacon was born Florence Stratch on Feb. 10, 1906, in Russell Springs, Kan. She graduated from Garden City Community College and received her teaching degree from Pacific Lutheran College. She taught in Kansas, Oregon and Washington until her retirement in 1971. In 1930, she married Harris Bacon; he died in 1988.

Survivors include her sons, Richard Bacon and Bruce Freeman; daughters, Wretha Ackley, Dorothy Curry and Verona Lund; sisters, Josephine Stewart and Nola Zipse; 20 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

Interment in Evergreen Memorial Gardens cemetery. Remembrances to Portland Adventist Health Hospice.

Louise B. White

Louise B. White died April 9, 2001, at age 77. Mrs. White was born Louise Shoemaker on Aug. 21, 1923, in Drumright, Okla., and moved in 1941 to Portland. She was a homemaker. In 1941, she married Basil White.

Survivors include her husband; son, Larry; daughter, Judy; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Private service. Remembrances to the National Kidney Foundation. Arrangements by Oregon Cremation.

Olive Bernhardine Wise

A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2001, in Portland Memorial Funeral Home for Olive Bernhardine Wise, who died April 11 at age 88. Mrs. Wise was born Olive Bernhardine Tollefsen on Nov. 4, 1912, in St. Johns. She graduated from Roosevelt High School and was an office manager for Postal Telegraph and then Western Union until 1947 and then was a homemaker. In 1946, she married Laird Wise.

Survivors include her husband; daughter, Lorraine M. Works; son, James C. Wise Sr.; brothers, Olaf Tollefsen and Jack H. Tollefsen; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Interment in Willamette National cemetery. Remembrances to St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Jerry Allen Falter

A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Vancouver, Wash., for Jerry Allen Falter, who died Jan. 23 of undetermined causes in Astoria at age 48. Mr. Falter was born March 27, 1952, in Walla Walla and was raised in Vancouver. He graduated from Columbia River High School and Western Washington College and was a Vancouver firefighter for the past 24 years. In 1975, he married Susan Louise Roth.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Michael J. and Ryan P.; parents, Lawrence P. and Betty J.; brother, Phillip; sisters, Kay Holmes and Janet Falter; and grandfather, Raymond.

Disposition is by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to the building fund of St. John's Catholic Church, 8701 N.E. 119th St., Vancouver, WA 98662.

Samuel Frisella

A memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, in St. Therese Catholic Church for Samuel Frisella, who died Jan. 25 at age 78. A vigil will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, in the church. Mr. Frisella was born Jan. 1, 1923, in St. Louis. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific and was awarded a Distinguished Flying Cross. He moved to Portland in 1959, and was general manager of Melridge Aviation for 18 years before retiring in 1983. He was a member of the church. In 1945, he married Norma Hagan.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Denise and Barbara; sons, Gregory and Christopher; sister, June Gagnepaine; brothers, Joe, Frank, Pete, Angelo and Jim; and four grandchildren. His son, Mark, died in infancy.

Interment will be in Willamette National cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to the children's program at Pearson Air Museum, 1115 E. 5th St. Vancouver, WA 98661. Arrangements are by Gateway Little Chapel of the Chimes.

Edwin Louis Dean Guebert

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 26, 2001, in Family Memorial Mortuary for Edwin Louis Dean Guebert, who died Jan. 22 of a heart attack at age 62. Mr. Guebert was born Feb. 17, 1938, in Hinton, Okla. He served in the U.S. Air Force and then was a civilian supervisor for the software support center for McClellan Force Base in California for about 20 years before his retirement in 1994. He moved in 1998 to Portland. In 1962, he married Arlene Shipman.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Jon and Michael; daughter, Renee Okerman; mother, Christine Polley; sister, Marian Galbraith; and three grandchildren.

Interment will be in Willamette National cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to the American Diabetes Association.

Violet S. Kingsland

Violet S. Kingsland died Jan. 22, 2001, of congestive heart disease at age 73. No service will be held. Mrs. Kingsland was born May 23, 1927, in Plentywood, Mont. Her maiden name was Hansen. She moved to Portland in 1942, and was a waitress for Osbeck's Restaurant for about 12 years before illness forced her retirement about 1980. She moved to Scappoose in May. In 1943, she married Homer C. Powell; he died in 1944. She married Fred Kingsland in 1949; he died in 1970. Her companion Bert Hanson died in 1995.

Survivors include her son, Homer C. Powell Jr.; daughters, Debra Topich and Denice Keller; sisters, Dorothy Foss, Nova Nielson and Myrna Jungling; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Disposition is by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to the American Heart Association. Arrangements are by Columbia Funeral Home in St. Helens.

Everett E. 'Ed' Mallon

A memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, in Finley's Sunset Hills Memorial Park for Everett E. "Ed" Mallon, who died Jan. 21 at age 91. Mr. Mallon was born April 6, 1909, in Portland. He attended Franklin High School and as a young man delivered gourmet food for Sealy-Dresser. He was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 32 years before retiring in 1972 and was president of Branch 82 of the National Association of Letter Carriers from 1959 to 1970. He also was a Boy Scouts leader. He moved to Hood River in 1989. In 1934, he married Jesse Anne "Jay" Morris; she died in 1986.

Survivors include his sons, James and Richard; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

The family suggests remembrances to the Boy Scouts of America.

Pascual M. Manipon

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, in St. Cecilia Catholic Church for Pascual M. Manipon, who died Jan. 23 at age 90. The Rosary will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, in Pegg Paxson & Springer Chapel. Mr. Manipon was born May 17, 1910, in Pao Manaoag, Pangasinan, Philippines. He immigrated in 1929 to Hawaii and served in the U.S. Army for 25 years, retiring in 1967. During World War II, he served in the Philippines and received a Bronze Star; in the Korean War, he received a Silver Star. He lived in Hawaii, California and Washington before moving in 1983 to Beaverton, where he was a member of the church and of Southwest Bible Church. In California and Beaverton, he and his wife were foster parents for 20 years. In 1945, he married Espectacion Parrillia; she died in 1988.

Survivors include his son, Vincent; daughters, Josefa Sangalang and Linda Estrada; sister, Marcelina Barrozo; his foster children; 12 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchildren.

Interment will be in Mt. Calvary Catholic cemetery.

Mildred S. Patton

Mildred S. Patton died Jan. 18, 2001, at age 98. A private service will be held. Mrs. Patton was born Jan. 20, 1902, in Westfield, Ill. Her maiden name was Strevey. She graduated from Willamette University and as a young woman taught school in Washington and Oregon. She moved to Newberg in 1926, and she was a member and choir director of Newberg Friends Church. In 1972, she moved to McMinnville, where she was a member of the United Methodist Church. She married Frank C. Colcord in 1926; he died in 1969. In 1972, she married Fred Patton; he died in 1982.

Survivors include her son, Frank C. Colcord; daughter, Carolyn Tomlinson; stepsons, Bruce and Dale; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Interment will be in Newberg Friends cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to the Nursing Scholarship Fund at Hillside Manor in McMinnville. Arrangements are by Macy & Son Funeral Directors in McMinnville.

Frances Irene Rickerd

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, in New Hope Community Church for Frances Irene Rickerd, who died Jan. 19 of a stroke at age 50. Mrs. Rickerd was born Oct. 5, 1950, in Portland. Her maiden name was Roth. She graduated from Wilson High School and was a private caregiver for the state of Oregon. She was a member of the church.

Survivors include her daughters, Renee and Stacy; son, Billy; father and stepmother, Glenn and Kathy Roth; grandmother, Beryl Roth; brothers, Floyd Roth and Mike McCurty; sister, Nancy Taylor; boyfriend, Greg Beitler; and eight grandchildren.

Disposition is by cremation. Arrangements are by Gateway Little Chapel of the Chimes.
