Dottie B. Shoup

A funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, in Sandy Funeral Home for Dottie B. Shoup, who died Jan. 23 at age 89. Mrs. Shoup was born April 24, 1911, in Topeka, Kan. Her maiden name was Beeman. She attended Washington State University and lived in Portland, Yakima and Oroville, Calif., before moving in 1958 to Brightwood. She worked for Clackamas County Bank and then the U.S. Forest Service in Zig Zag, retiring in the late 1980s. In 1955, she married Donald L. Shoup; he died in 1964.

Survivors include her son, Gale Petty; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Private interment will be in Santa Rosa Memorial Park in Santa Rosa, Calif.

Shirley Ann Spence Sink

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, in Attrell's Newberg Funeral Chapel for Shirley Ann Spence Sink, who died Jan. 13 of cancer at age 62. Mrs. Sink was born Jan. 30, 1938, in Portland. Her maiden name was Rankin. She attended St. Mary's of the Valley Catholic High School and was a data control technician for Tektronix for 21 years and then for Maxim for about the past 10 years, retiring in 2000. She was secretary of the Northwest Buckskins Club. In 1989, she married William Sink; he died in 1992.

Survivors include her daughters, Kathleen Campbell and Kelly Spence; sons, Michael Spence and Shawn Spence; mother, Nellie Babcock; brothers, Richard Rankin and Jon Babcock; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Disposition is by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to the Northwest Buckskins Youth Scholarship Program, 5404 Red Leaf Drive S., Salem, OR 97306.

Robert Wilkerson

Robert Wilkerson died Jan. 19, 2001, of a heart attack at age 79. A funeral was held. Mr. Wilkerson was born Dec. 10, 1921, in Portland. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in Europe. He was a laborer for Portland Water Bureau.

Survivors include his sons, Norman, Marvin D., Bobby J. and Tommy J.; daughters, Peggy A. Wilkerson, Linda S. Wilkerson and Billie Thomas; and five grandchildren.

Private interment is in Utah Veterans Memorial Park in Salt Lake City. Arrangements are by McDougal Funeral Home in Salt Lake City.

Wanda Arlene Winner

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, in Peace Mennonite Church for Wanda Arlene Winner, who died Jan. 20 of breast cancer at age 70. Mrs. Winner was born Dec. 1, 1930, in Kettleman, Calif. Her maiden name was Dunn. She moved to Parkdale in 1952 and five years later to Boring, where she had a rhododendron nursery. She was a homemaker and a member of the church. In 1948, she married Dan Winner.

Survivors include her husband; sons, Randy and Sam; daughters, Ruth Winner-Dexter and Laura Winner-Othman; and six grandchildren.

Disposition is by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are by Sunnyside Little Chapel of the Chimes.

Thomas L. Bailey

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, in Rose City Funeral Home for Thomas L. Bailey, who died Jan. 21 at age 49. Mr. Bailey was born March 6, 1951, in Spokane. He moved to Portland in 1970 and was a salesman for Eoff Electric and then for Westar Electric until about 1999.

Survivors include his mother, Rose Mary; brother, David M.; sisters, Kathy L. Skeels and Mary E. Zanck; and fiancee, Jackie Franck.

Disposition is by cremation.

Donald J. Gale

Donald J. Gale died Jan. 18, 2001, of cancer at age 65. There will be no service. Mr. Gale was born Nov. 14, 1935, in Portland, where he lived all his life. He graduated from Grant High School and was an office manager for A/C Valve for 10 years until retiring in 1997.

Survivors include his sister, Constance R. Carlson; and friends, Jack Templeman and Robert Berry.

Interment will be in Lone Fir Pioneer cemetery. Arrangements are by Wilhelm Funeral Home.

August M. Heinige

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, 2001, in Corbett Community Church for August M. Heinige, who died Jan. 18 of a heart attack at age 77. Mr. Heinige was born Sept. 9, 1923, in Little Ferry, N.J. He moved in 1970 from Riverside, Calif., to Gresham and was a maintenance worker for the Reynolds School District for about 14 years before his retirement in 1984. He was a member of the church. In 1943, he married Norma Kreppel.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Beverly Novakovich and Janet Leckron; sons, Wayne and Brad; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

Disposition is by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to the American Heart Association. Arrangements are by Bateman-Carroll Funeral Chapel.

Edward Arthur Hess

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, in Donelson Sewell & Mathews Mortuary for Edward Arthur Hess, who died Jan. 20 of diabetes at age 61. Mr. Hess was born Feb. 3, 1939, in Portland. He graduated from Beaverton High School in 1957 and then served in the Oregon National Guard. He was a laboratory and equipment designer for Napco Scientific for 32 years before poor health forced him to retire in 1991. He was a member of North Plains Christian Church. In 1959, he married Clara M. Dickson.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Randy and Tod; mother, Genevra; brothers, Louis and Bub; sister, Aileen Myers; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Private interment is in Valley Memorial Park in Hillsboro. The family suggests remembrances to the American Diabetes Association.

Alicia Koch

A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001, in St. Paul Catholic Church in St. Paul for Alicia Koch, who died Jan. 19 at age 92. A recitation of the rosary will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, also in the church. Mrs. Koch was born Feb. 2, 1908, in St. Paul. Her maiden name was Smith. After graduating from St. Paul High School in 1926, she was a mail opener for Montgomery Ward in Portland and then was a homemaker. Later, she was clerk for J.C. Penney in Newberg for about 10 years and worked for U.S. National Bank in St. Paul for about 10 years until retiring in 1970. At the same time, she was a co-owner with her husband and the bookkeeper of Koch Garage and Machine Shop in St. Paul for 40 years. She was a member of the church. She moved to Woodburn in 1992. In 1936, she married Peter Koch; he died in 1986.

Survivors include her sons, David, Richard, Maurice and Patrick; daughters, Marian Brooks, Rosemary Koch and Louise Slaughterback; brother, Kenneth Smith; 13 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Interment will be in the church cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to the endowment fund of St. Paul Parochial School. Arrangements are by Cornwell Colonial Chapel in Woodburn.

Daniel C. Leal Jr.

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, in Holy Rosary Catholic Church for Daniel C. Leal Jr., who died Jan. 21 of pneumonia and cancer at age 65. Recitation of the rosary will precede the Mass at 9:30 a.m. Mr. Leal was born June 5, 1935, in Del Rio, Texas. He served in the U.S. Navy. He moved to Portland in 1957, and was a paint foreman for Gunderson for the past 43 years. He was a member of the church. In 1976, he married Calline M. White.

Survivors include his wife; son, Robert B. ; daughters, Jeannette C. Jackson, Julie H. Endres and Marcie M. Shuell; mother, Delfina C.; brothers, Frank A., George A. and John J.; sisters, Hercilia Resendez and Irma Mancinelli; 15 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. His son Daniel III died in 1993.

Interment will be in Willamette National cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are by Zeller Chapel of the Roses.

Ernest Arthur Leverenz

A service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 26, 2001, in Willamette National cemetery for Ernest Arthur Leverenz, who died Jan. 20 of congestive heart disease at age 79. Mr. Leverenz was born Feb. 28, 1921, in Emerson, Manitoba, and immigrated to Portland in 1935. He attended Roosevelt High School and graduated from Benson Polytechnic High School. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in Europe and the Pacific. He worked for Shell Oil for 25 years, retiring from the boiler room in 1976. In 1990, he moved to Vancouver, Wash., where he was a member of First Church of God. In 1974, he married Margaret Mattie; she died in 1999.

Survivors include his stepsons, James A. Mason and Robert E. Mason; stepdaughters, Brenda S. Meeuwsen and Charlene Greer; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family suggests remembrances to the American Heart Association. Arrangements are by Lincoln Willamette Funeral Directors.

Bernice Fern Moilanen

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001, in Loyola Retreat House, 3220 S.E. 43rd Ave., for Bernice Fern Moilanen, who died Jan. 21 at age 79. Mrs. Moilanen was born Jan. 5, 1922, in Mckenzie, N.D. Her maiden name was Anderson. She moved to Portland from Seattle in 1960 and was a homemaker. In 1962, she married Leonard Moilanen.

Survivors include her husband; sons, Lowell Cornelius and Bryce Moilanen; daughters, Denice Hogan and Dayle LaRiviere; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Her daughter Karen Gebarowski died in 1996.

Interment will be in Willamette National cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to Health Institute in care of St. Vincent Medical Foundation. Arrangements are by Autumn Funeral & Cremations.

Russell D. Persaud

A memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 26, 2001, in St. Philip Neri Catholic Church for Russell D. Persaud, who died Aug. 30, 2000, on the Pacific island of Tinian at age 33. The cause of death has not been determined. Mr. Persaud was born Oct. 25, 1966, in Eugene and moved to Portland as a child. He graduated from Cleveland High School and attended Oregon Institute of Technology. He taught at Tinian High School for four years and then for the past year worked for Boeing.

Survivors include his twin daughters, Cheryl and Rachelle; sons, Desmond and Chalen; mother, Susan; father, Rudolph; brothers, Joseph D. and Joshua D.; and sister, Elizabeth.

Disposition is by cremation.
