Jose Camacho

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 7, 2001, in Our Lady of SorrowsCatholic Church in Portland for Jose Camacho, who died April 1 at age 80. Recitations of the rosary will be at 7 p.m Friday, April 6, in Mt. Scott Funeral Home and will precede the Mass at 10 a.m. Mr. Camacho was born Jan. 17, 1921, in Garapan,Saipan, Northern Mariana islands. He moved to Portland in 1966 and was a mechanic for Raygo Wagner for about 15 years, retiring in 1982. In 1947, he married Lucia Leon Guerrero.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Connie Register, Annie C. Dombowski, Fran Comacho-Silbernagel and Dolores C. Nicolai; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Interment in Gethsemani Catholic cemetery. Remembrances to St. Jude Care Center.

Alene Z. Croft

Alene Z. Croft died March 28, 2001, at age 89. Ms. Croft was born Alene Zachrisson on June 21, 1911, in Portland. She graduated from Franklin High School. She was a homemaker and then a legal secretary for Farmers Insurance Group until retiring in 1979. She moved to Milwaukie in 1943. She married Jack B. Croft in 1934; they divorced in 1950.

Survivors include her sons, Dan and Michael; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Service held. Interment in Riverview Abbey.

Major John Ake Forsberg

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 7, 2001, in the Salvation Army Family Services, 1712 N.E. Sandy Blvd., for Major John Ake Forsberg, who died March 8, at age 87. Major Forsberg was born April 21, 1913, in Svartvik, Sweden. He immigrated to Minnesota and later moved to Portland. He was a major and minister in the Salvation Army. In 1940, he married Elsa E. Ehn.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Bengt and Leanart; daughter, Inger Stolberg; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Donald Warren Franzwa

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 7, 2001, in Allison Park Christian Church in Eugene for Donald Warren Franzwa, who died March 26 at age 78. Another memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 21, 2001, in Community Presbyterian Church in Waldport. Mr. Franzwa was born May 5, 1922, in Glidden, Iowa. He attended Jefferson High School and graduated from Oregon State University. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific. He was an electrical engineer for Pacific Power & Light and the Bonneville Power Administration until retiring in 1984. In 1941, he married Sara Rogers.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Katherine Pedersen, Ronnie Egger and Yvonne Wheelon; son, David; brothers, Jack and Arthur; grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

Melvin George Frice

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 7, 2001, in Maple Grove Church in Battle Ground, Wash., for Melvin George Frice, who died March 30 at age 56. Mr. Frice was born Oct. 3, 1944, in Huntingdon, England. He immigrated to the United States as an infant and graduated from high school in North Bend. He served in the U.S. Army. He was a rural letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Stevenson, Wash., for 25 years until his retirement. He lived in Portland and Scappoose before moving to Skamania, Wash. He was founder and president of the Columbia Gorge Croquet Club. In 1974, he married Mary Wolf.

Survivors include his wife; daughter, Ruby Berglund; son, Joseph; father, Mike; sister, Janet Williams; and two grandchildren.

Remembrances to the Seattle Cancer Treatment and Wellness Center. Arrangements by Davies Cremation in Vancouver, Wash.

Gust James Friederichs

A service will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 6, 2001, in Willamette National cemetery for Gust James Friederichs, who died April 2 at age 86. Mr. Friederichs was born Nov. 29, 1914, in Hardwick, Minn. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army. He was a mechanic for Regal, retiring in 1979. In 1989, he married Millie N. Six.

Survivors include his wife.

Bertha Mae Grant-Holton

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 7, 2001, in New Jerusalem Baptist Church in Portland for Bertha Mae Grant-Holton, who died April 2 at age 71. Mrs. Grant-Holton was born Bertha Mae Cobb on Aug. 5, 1929, in El Dorado, Ark. She moved to Portland and was an educational assistant for Portland Public Schools until retiring. In 1955, she married the Rev. Willie D. Grant; he died. In 1992, she married Joe Holton; he died in 1994.

Survivors include her stepdaughter, Lessie Clay; stepsons, Albert Grant, Joe Grant and Willie Grant; and sisters, Lillie P. Hawthorne and Bertha L. Carter.

Herbert L. Griffin

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 7, 2001, in St. Cecilia Catholic Church in Beaverton for Herbert L. Griffin, who died April 3 at age 87. Recitation of the rosary will be at 5 p.m. Friday, April 6, in Pegg, Paxson & Springer Chapel. Mr. Griffin was born Aug. 7, 1913, in Gully, Minn. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a department store manager and outdoor advertising sales manager for 43 years. He moved in 1990 from Tacoma to Portland. He was past president of the Lions Club in Billings, Mont. In 1943, he married Katherine Jaeger.

Survivors include his wife; son, James; daughters, Mary Griffin and Kathy Hammerstrom; and five grandchildren.

Interment in St. Joseph's Dickinson cemetery in Dickinson, N.D. Remembrances to the St. Vincent de Paul Society at the church.

Virginia Louise Gustafson

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, April 6, 2001, in Savage Memorial Presbyterian Church in Portland for Virginia Louise Gustafson, who died April 3 at age 91. Mrs. Gustafson was born Virginia Barr Jan. 26, 1910, in Decatur, Ill. She moved in 1946 to Portland. She graduated from OHSU and was a licensed practical nurse at OHSU for 10 years, retiring in about 1967. She was a volunteer at Providence Hospital. In 1932, she married Walter A. Gustafson; he died in 1978.

Survivors include her son, Mark W.; daughters, Karen V. Foster, Barbara Crites and Ann M. Theander; brother, Hubert Barr; 11 grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

Interment in Lincoln Memorial Park. Remembrances to her church. Arrangements by Gateway Little Chapel of the Chimes.

Clare June Haight

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 7, 2001, in St. John the Evangelist Episcopal Church in Milwaukie for Clare June Haight, who died March 29 at age 77. Mrs. Haight was born Clare June Dimond on Oct. 17, 1923, in Newberg. She graduated from high school in Newberg and received a bachelor's degree from Portland State University in 1985. She was a certified public accountant for Moss Adams and later for the Episcopal Diocese of Oregon until retiring. In 1943, she married Tinkham Haight; he died in 1981.

Survivors include her sons, Michael, Lawrence and Philip; brothers, John Dimond and Arthur Dimond; sister, Carol Hunsaker; and five grandchildren.

Interment in Willamette National cemetery. Remembrances to her church. Arrangements by Young's.

Lillian Nayha Haikka

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 7, 2001, in Steele Chapel in Longview, Wash., for Lillian Nayha Haikka, who died April 2 at age 101. Mrs. Haikka was born Lillian Jarvenpaa on Oct. 9, 1899, in Alajarvi, Finland. She immigrated in 1905 to Two Harbors, Minn., lived in Longview for 35 years and moved in 1953 to Portland. She was a homemaker. She returned to Longview in 1975. In 1918, she married Jacob Nayha; he died in 1939. She married Toivo Haikka in 1953; he died in 1975.

Survivors include her daughter, Esther Ohlfs; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Interment in Longview Memorial Park. Remembrances to a favorite charity.

Melvin M. Harmison

Melvin M. Harmison died Saturday, March 31, 2001, at age 91. Mr. Harmison was born Sept. 18, 1909, in Hansen, Idaho, and moved to Vancouver, Wash., in 1942. He was a welder and worked at ESCO Corp. in Portland for 23 years, retiring in 1973. He married Maxine McKinney in 1932.

Survivors include his wife; daughter, Helen Wahl; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Service held. Interment at Lincoln Memorial Park. Remembrances to a favorite charity. Arrangements by Lincoln Memorial.

John F. Kopfer

A funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday, April 7, 2001, in Finley's Sunset Hills Mortuary for John F. Kopfer, who died April 3 at age 51. Mr. Kopfer was born Sept. 7, 1949, in Allentown, Pa. He graduated from Penn State in 1971 and was vice president of corporate sales for Air Van North American for about the past 25 years. He moved to West Linn from Indiana in about 1986. In 1999, he married Sandra Sherman.

Survivors include his wife; daughter, Erin; son, Greg; stepdaughters, Audrey King and Jacklyn Barbee; stepson, George Smith; mother, Marjorie Filer Kopfer; and sister, Carol Mills.

Interment in Sunset Hills Memorial Park.
