Ara 'Mae' Taylor

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, April 2, 2001, in Trinity Baptist Church for Ara "Mae" Taylor, who died March 25 at age 94. Mrs. Taylor was born Sept. 25, 1906, in Wilburton, Okla., and moved to Portland as a child. Her maiden name was Smith. She was a homemaker and a longtime member of the church. In 1927, she married Horace I. Taylor; he died in 1997.

Survivors include her son, Thomas; daughter, Sallie Boyce; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Her son David L. died in 1982, and her son James H. died in 1994.

Interment in Lincoln Memorial Park. Rembrances to Sunshine Preschool in care of the church. Arrangements by Mt. Scott Funeral Home.

Doris Oneida Trubey

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Monday, April 2, 2001, in Vernon Presbyterian Church in Portland for Doris Oneida Trubey, who died March 25 at age 81. Miss Trubey was born Nov. 27, 1919, in Harvey, Ill., and grew up in Portland. She graduated from Jefferson High School and Oregon Normal School. She received bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Oregon. She taught school for 46 years in Perrydale, Mist, Sandy and in Portland's Woodlawn and Laurelhurst elementary schools, retiring in 1985. She also worked for Schuster Music School as a piano instructor and accompanist.

Survivors include her brother, Forest C.

Interment in Portland Memorial Mausoleum. Arrangements by Riverview Abbey.

Melissa J. Compton

A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2001, in Fuiten Rose & Hoyt Funeral Home for Melissa J. Compton, who died April 12 of cancer at age 33. Mrs. Compton was born Melissa Gamroth on Dec. 20, 1967, in Hillsboro. She graduated from Colton High School. She worked for a fruit company in Hillsboro for eight years and was a mail clerk for one year at Pacific University. She was then a caregiver through an agency in St. Helens from 1999 to 2000. In 1986, she married Glenn Compton.

Survivors include her husband; daughters, Amanda Lynn Compton and Megan Caryl Jean Compton; mother, Peggy Gamroth; brother, David Gamroth; sister, LeeAnn Cutright; and grandmother, Mary M. Weaver.

Interment in Buxton cemetery.

Lorraine Florence Farmer

A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 19, 2001, in River View cemetery for Lorraine Florence Farmer, who died April 13 at age 91. Mrs. Farmer was born Lorraine Florence Olson on June 23, 1909, in Little Falls (now Vader), Wash., and was raised in Seaside. She lived in Portland and Sutherland, then in Oregon City for more than 35 years. She was a homemaker and worked in several jobs, including as a patcher for Nordic Plywood Mill and as a nursing home aide. In 1932, she married Albert L. Farmer; he died in 1960.

Survivors include her daughters, Nancy J. Dorr and Mary Ellen Schiedler; son, Michael J.; sisters, Jeanne A. Anderson and Wilma Haddan; nine grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

Remembrances to the Macular Study Center at the Casey Eye Institute. Arrangements by Holman Hankins Bowker & Waud.

Inez Marie Fisher

A graveside service will be at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, April 19, 2001, in Mountain View Memorial Park in Tacoma for Inez Marie Fisher, who died April 14 at age 90. Mrs. Fisher was born Inez Crowley on Feb. 21, 1911, in Coburg, and was raised in Portland. A homemaker, she moved to Lakewood, Wash., in 1971. In 1936, she married James H. Morgan; he died in 1964. In 1977, she married Arthur Fisher.

Survivors include her husband; son, Jim Morgan; and stepson, Buddy Fisher.

John R. Gallant

A funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 19, 2001, in Memorial Gardens Funeral Home in Vancouver, Wash., for John R. "Jack" Gallant, who died April 14 at age 64. Mr. Gallant was born Dec. 30, 1936, in Upper Nelson, New Brunswick, and immigrated to Maine in 1950. He served in the U.S. Air Force. He was an avionics technician for 10 years for the Maine Air National Guard, and in 1971 transferred to the Oregon Air National Guard where he worked until retiring in 1990. He lived in Camas, Wash. In 1962, he married Priscilla Cain.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Richard Gallant and Geno Apling; daughter, Victoria Darling; brother, Bruce; sisters, Shirley MacIntyre, Izella Hubbard and Eleanor Sobey; and five grandchildren. His daughter Jane died in 1994.

Remembrances to the building fund for Evergreen Christian Church in Vancouver.

Barbara Lee Gilbert

A memorial Mass will be at 12:10 p.m. Friday, April 20, 2001, in St. James Catholic Church in Vancouver, Wash., for Barbara Lee Gilbert, who died April 4 at age 59. Miss Gilbert was born May 27, 1941, in Seattle and was raised in Eugene. She graduated from the University of Oregon in 1967, and received a master's degree from California State University in San Jose in 1973. A registered recreation therapist, she was a service club director for the U.S. Army Special Services in the Vietnam War and later in Amberg, Germany. She worked for the American Red Cross, and then was care provider coordinator for San Joaquin County Mental Health Services in Stockton, Calif., for 20 years. She taught health care administration at San Joaquin Delta Community College. She retired because of poor health in 1989, and moved to Vancouver.

Miss Gilbert served on the Washington Governor's Board for Independent Living Council and the governor's board for Southwest Washington Independent Resources. A former member of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Wichita, Kan., she was a member of the church. She was an associate of the Sisters of St. Mary of Oregon, and of the Sisters of St. Joseph in Orange, Calif., and was a Third Order Carmelite.

Survivors include her brother, Glen; sisters, Gene Gilbert and Nancy Johnson; and nieces and nephews.

Interment in the church cemetery. Remembrances to the Southwest Washington Humane Society. Arrangements by Hamilton-Mylan.

Thelma Hett

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 17, 2001, in Newberg Church of Christ for Thelma Hett, who died April 14 at age 77. Mrs. Hett was born Thelma Pitcock on July 11, 1923, in Tompkinsville, Ky., and was raised in Martha, Okla. A homemaker, she lived in Alaska, then moved to Ashland in 1968 and to Newberg in 1986. In 1953, she married Henry Hett; he died in 1995.

Survivors include her daughters, Jill Miller and Sharon Hett; sisters, Ollie Pitcock, Ruth Sutton, Edith Osborne and Frankie Pitcock; brothers, Hoover Pitcock and Tom Pitcock Jr.; and one grandchild.

Interment in Willamette National cemetery. Arrangements by Attrell's Newberg.

Jack William Horner

A funeral will be at noon Tuesday, April 17, 2001, in Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home for Jack William Horner, who died April 14 at age 70. Mr. Horner was born Feb. 5, 1931, in Wooster, Ohio. He served in the U.S. Air Force in the Korean War. He moved to Portland in 1954, and was an accountant for Consolidated Freightways for 36 years, retiring in 1995. He was president of Local 11 of the Office Employees Union for 33 years. In 1954, he married Lucille I. Hicks.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Richard and Rodrick; daughters, RebeccaMorris and Roberta Horner; and six grandchildren.

Interment in Willamette National cemetery. Remembrances to the Parkinsonian Society of Willamette/Columbia.

Vicki L. Iverson

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, 2001, in St. Mary's Parish Center in Mt. Angel for Vicki L. Iverson, who died April 14 of cancer at age 42. Mrs. Iverson was born Vicki Lane on Aug. 6, 1958, in Portland. She graduated from Lincoln High School and Oregon State University. She was a lab technician at Prepared Media Laboratory for about nine years. She owned a tulip farm with her sister, and had been vice president of the women's advisory council of the Oregon Farm Bureau Federation. In 1981, she married Ken Iverson.

Survivors include her husband; sons, Jon, Phillip, Thomas and Gordon; mother, Jocelyn Lane; twin sister, Liz Nehl, sister, Carolyn Gaston; and grandparents, Ray and Betty Delancy.

Remembrances to the Oregon Farm Bureau's education fund. Arrangements by Cornwell Colonial Chapel.

Marjorie Lamb Knorr

A funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 20, 2001, in Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Lake Oswego for Marjorie Lamb Knorr, who died April 7 at age 88. Mrs. Knorr was born Marjorie Lamb Winder on June 29, 1912, in Tacoma and was raised in Portland. She graduated from Holy Child Academy and from St. Vincent Hospital School of Nursing. She was a homemaker and a volunteer nurse's aide for St. Vincent Hospital and was a volunteer for Villa St. Rose. A member of the church, she was a fund-raiser for the church and for Marylhurst College. In 1932, she married William M. Knorr; he died in 1979.

Survivors include her sons, William H. and Kim F.; daughter, Melissa Knorr-Armstrong; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Interment in Rose City cemetery. Remembrances to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn. Arrangements by Rose City Funeral Home.

Mattie Morrison

A visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, 2001, and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, April 19, in Killingsworth Little Chapel of the Chimes for Mattie Morrison, who died April 15 at age 85. Mrs. Morrison was born Mattie Robinson on May 1, 1915, in Decatur, Ala. She moved to Portland in the 1940s. She was a homemaker. In the 1940s, she married King David Morrison; they later divorced.

Survivors include her sister, Adella Gibson; and two grandchildren. Her son, King David Morrison Jr., died in 1991.

Interment in Columbian cemetery.

Joy L. Nehler

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, 2001, in Sunnyside Little Chapel of the Chimes for Joy L. Nehler, who died April 12 at age 66. Mrs. Nehler was born Joy L. Foree on Jan. 11, 1935, in Prairie City, and was raised in Unadilla, N.Y., and Oregon City. She graduated from Oregon City High School and from Lewis & Clark College. She was a teacher in Clark Elementary School in Portland for five years and then was a homemaker.

Survivors include her son, Dr. Mark R.; and daughter, Denise Martin.

Interment in Sunnyside Chimes Memorial Garden. Remembrances to the American Red Cross.
