Jo Anne Wolf

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2000, in Tigard Christian Church for Jo Anne Wolf, who died Nov. 10 at age 71. Mrs. Wolf was born June 2, 1929, in Heppner. She moved to the Portland area as a teen-ager and attended Girls Polytechnic High School. She was a homemaker. Also, she was a private day-care provider for more than 20 years and a foster mother for more than 35 years. She moved to Tigard in the late 1980s. She was an active member of the church and served on several of its committees. She married Ray Wolf in 1946.

Survivors include her husband; daughters, Marcia Palmer and Marie Wolf-Marr; son, Mark; foster daughter, Penny Hanson; foster sons, Oren Wilson, Mike Wilson, Edward McDaniel, Don Betts and Ron Betts; sisters, Darlene Ernster, Barbara Fazzolari, Donna Kathrens and Arleta White; brother, Robert Cole; 21 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Private interment will be in Crescent Grove cemetery in Tigard. The family suggests remembrances to her church. Arrangements are by Young's Funeral Home.

Galvin T. Yoakum Sr.

Galvin T. Yoakum Sr. died Nov. 3 at age 95. A private service will be held. Mr. Yoakum was born Jan. 28, 1905, in Baggs, Wyo. He moved to Portland in 1941, and was a property officer for the U.S. Bureau of Public Roads in Vancouver, Wash., for more than 20 years before retiring in 1965. He moved to King City in the mid-1960s. In 1925, he married Florence Gibbens; she died July 8.

Survivors include his daughter, Geraldine Lockwood; sons, Galvin Jr. and Robert; brother, Alva; sisters, Ruth Barnes and Edna; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Disposition is by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to the Alzheimer's Association. Arrangements are by Oregon Cremation Co.

Bryan Oliver Fivecoats

Bryan Oliver Fivecoats died Nov. 13, 2000, at age 30. A private service was held. Mr. Fivecoats was born Jan. 15, 1970, in Portland. He attended Roosevelt High School. He was a waiter in several restaurants in Portland before moving to Phoenix, Ariz., in 1996, where he was a waiter for the International House of Pancakes until poor health forced his retirement last year.

Survivors include his companion, Brian Pietarila; parents, Raymond and Daphne; sister, Tabitha Ziemer; and grandparents, Helen and Floyd Wagner.

Interment is in Sunset Hills Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Finley's Sunset Hills Mortuary.

Emroy Edward Fletcher

Emroy Edward Fletcher died Nov. 18, 2000, at age 76. A private service was held. Mr. Fletcher was born July 5, 1924, in Boise, where he was raised. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He moved to Portland in 1957 and was a truck driver for 25 years for PMT Inc. until retiring. He moved to Aloha in 1970. In 1946, he married Idillia Lamb; she died in 1996.

Survivors include his son, Emroy G.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Interment was in Willamette National cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to Doernbecher Children's Hospital. Arrangements were by Wilhelm Funeral Home.

Jeanne S. Francis

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000, in Young's Funeral Home for Jeanne S. Francis, who died Nov. 23 at age 70. Mrs. Francis was born April 4, 1930, in Cairo, Egypt. Her maiden name was Papageorgiou. She immigrated to New York City in 1962 and lived there for 10 years. She later earned a bachelor's degree from Virginia Commonwealth University and taught high school in Virginia until retiring in 1992, when she moved to Portland and was a volunteer tutor. She spoke several languages, including Greek, French, Arabic, Spanish and Italian. She was attending classes at Portland State University at the time of her death. In 1952, she married Anthony A. Francis; they were later divorced.

Survivors include her daughters Lila and Theresa; and two grandchildren.

Disposition is by cremation. Arrangements are by American Burial & Cremation Service.

Carry Catherine McCurdy

Carry Catherine McCurdy died Nov. 1, 2000, at age 78. A private service will be held. Mrs. McCurdy was born May 9, 1922, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Her maiden name was Conel. She was raised in Denver until moving to Portland as a teen-ager. She was a homemaker who also was a self-employed investment counselor and real estate agent for several years. She moved to Silverton in the early 1970s and then to Milwaukie in 1992. In 1945, she married Fred McCurdy; he died in 1990.

She is survived by her son, Wayne.

Disposition was by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to the American Diabetes Association. Arrangements are by Heritage Memorial.

Mona Harriet Nims

Mona Harriet Nims died Nov. 19, 2000, at age 80. No service will be held. Mrs. Nims was born April 22, 1920, in Kirkhoven, Minn. Her maiden name was Filer. She was raised in Iowa and moved to Dolph near Hebo in 1945. She was a homemaker, moving to Portland in 1978. She was also a supply clerk for Oregon Health Sciences University School of Dentistry for five years.

Survivors include her daughters, Joanna Nims, Jan Olinger and Sally Jo Nims; sisters, Margaret McFarland and Phyllis Filer; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Disposition is by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to Providence Child Center. Arrangements are by Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home.

Phyllis Yvonne Miller Novak

Phyllis Yvonne Miller Novak died Nov. 17, 2000, at age 76. A service was held. Mrs. Novak was born Feb. 25, 1924, in Portland. Her maiden name was Miller. She moved to Lake Oswego in 1936 and graduated from West Linn High School. She attended Marylhurst College. She was a bookkeeper for a medical office in Lake Oswego for several years. She then was a clerical worker for the state of Oregon Department of Environmental Quality until retiring . She was a member of Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church. She was past president of the Forest Hills Garden Club and a board member of the Lake Oswego Adult Community Center. In 1943, she married Leonard Charles Novak.

Survivors include her husband; son, Charles; daughters, K.C. Courtnier, Judith and Mary Jo ; sister, Marilyn McLaughlin; brother, Merton Miller; and one grandchild.

Disposition was by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to Willamette Falls Hospice. Arrangements were by Young's Funeral Home.

H.R. 'Curly' Reynolds

H.R. "Curly" Reynolds died Nov. 19, 2000, of cancer at age 88. A private service was held. Mr. Reynolds was born April 5, 1912, in Brownsville. He moved to Portland in 1950 and was an auto mechanic for Field's Chevrolet. He later moved to Roseburg and built a motel that he operated until retiring in 1972. He was past master of the Masonic lodge in Roseburg. He later lived in Arizona for the winters and spent the summers in Portland. In 1985, he married Beth Marilyn Galloway.

Survivors include his wife; stepsons, Jack Peachey and Mel Stricklett; stepdaughter, Reny Parker; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Disposition was by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to a Masonic lodge. Arrangements were by Zeller Chapel of the Roses.

Dorothy Frances Schneider

Dorothy Frances Schneider died Nov. 19, 2000, at age 89. No service will be held. Mrs. Schneider was born Jan. 30, 1911, in Portland, where she lived all her life. Her maiden name was Jessen. She graduated from Franklin High School in 1929. She was a homemaker. Also, she worked for General Grocery for several years. She married Edwin Schneider in 1939.

Survivors include her husband; nephew, Jerry Town; and nieces, Lynnae Town and LeAnne Town-Keifer.

Disposition was by cremation. Arrangements are by Holman-Hankins-Bowker & Waud.

Frances Mary Smith

Frances Mary Smith died Nov. 17, 2000, at age 78. A private service was held. Mrs. Smith was born Sept. 6, 1922, in Liverpool, England. Her maiden name was Corran. She was an assembly line worker for Rolls Royce in England during World War II, when the factory was converted into making parts for the Spitfire aircraft. She immigrated to Portland in 1947 and held several jobs, most recently for Freightliner, where she retired after 20 years as a parts pricing analyst in the mid-1980s. She was a member of Madeleine Catholic Church. She moved to Beaverton in 1997.

Survivors include her sister, Mary Collette Abshier; nieces, Margaret Wiederrich and Frances Wilson; and nephews, Melvin Abshier and William Abshier.

Disposition is by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to St. Pius X Catholic Church. Arrangements are by Pegg, Paxson & Springer Chapel.

Charles Jasper Bronson

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000, in the Molalla Grange Hall for Charles Jasper Bronson, who died Nov. 12 of cancer at age 80. Mr. Bronson was born April 25, 1920, in John Day and was a Molalla resident since 1942. From 1944 to 1946, he served in the U.S. Navy. He was a log-truck driver for Crown Zellerbach until retiring in 1981, and he volunteered as a firefighter in Molalla for 17 years. He was a commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3973. In 1941, he married Elma A. Smith.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Charla J. Germany and Christa J. Schiewe; sons, Charles D. and William E.; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Disposition is by cremation. The family suggests remembrances to the National World War II Memorial in care of the Molalla VFW quartermaster, P.O. Box 158, Molalla, OR 97038.

Betty R. Brewer Byrd

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000, in Smith Memorial Presbyterian Church in Fairview for Betty R. Brewer Byrd, who died Nov. 18 at age 81. Mrs. Byrd was born Sept. 20, 1919, in Goshen, Ind., and grew up in Constantine, Mich. Her maiden name was Shire. A homemaker, she lived in Lander, Wyo., from 1951 to 1960, then in Fairview until 1971. She lived in Michigan and Indiana before returning to Fairview 11 years ago. In 1945, she married Vance V. Brewer Sr.; he died in 1968. She married Ernie Byrd in 1972; he died in 1979.

Survivors include her son, Vance V. Jr.; daughter, Deb Brewer-Smith; sister, Marvel Czosnowski; and four grandchildren.

Interment will be in Willamette National cemetery. Arrangements are by Bateman-Carroll Funeral Chapel.
