Earl Leroy David

A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, in Attrell's Newberg Chapel for Earl Leroy David, who died Nov. 26 at age 91. Mr. David was born March 28, 1909, in Grants Pass. He moved to Springbrook, now part of Newberg, in the 1920s. He was a yardman for Southern Pacific Railroad for 29 years before his retirement in 1971. He was a former member of the Worldwide Church of God. In 1932, he married Roberta Ida Cummings.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Albert D. and John R.; daughter, Margaret K. Miner; brother, Don; 11 grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Private interment will be in Gibbs cemetery near Newberg.

Earnest Evans Jr.

A gathering will be from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, in Killingsworth Little Chapel of the Chimes for Earnest Evans Jr., who died Nov. 23 of heart attack at age 48. Mr. Evans was born April 17, 1952, in Alto, Texas, and was raised in Portland. He attended Jefferson High School and then served in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam. He was a mail handler for the Main Branch of the U.S. Postal Service for more than 15 years before retiring in 1999.

Survivors include his daughters, Lanetta Brown and Janae Brown; sons, Earnest J. III, Earnest L.J., and Nathaniel L.; mother, Mayoler Davis; brothers, Hubert Evans, Andrew Eason, Johnny Bailey and Arthur L. Davis; and four grandchildren.

Interment will be in Willamette National cemetery.

Daniel William Goodwin

A funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 30, 2000, in East Hill Foursquare Church in Gresham for Daniel William Goodwin, who died Nov. 26 after surgery at age 73. Mr. Goodwin was born April 23, 1927, in Portland. He graduated from Franklin High School and served in the U.S. Army in the Korean War. He was a salesman for the Milwaukie Railroad for 25 years, retiring in 1989. He volunteered for the Gresham Senior Center and the East County Drug Free School Zone Coalition. In 1949, he married Lois Guindon.

Survivors include his wife; daughter, Linda Zirk; sisters, Lucille Sweetland and Betty Grant; and two grandchildren.

Interment will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Gresham. The family suggests remembrances to the East County Drug Free School Zone Coalition, 2418 S.E. Burnside St., Box 225, Gresham, OR 97080.

Barbara J. Kingsley

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2000, in All Saints Catholic Church for Barbara J. Kingsley, who died Nov. 22 at age 76. Miss Kingsley was born July 8, 1924, in Brooklyn, New York. She lived in Portland for most of her life and was a personnel examiner for the city of Portland before retiring in the 1980s.

Survivors include her niece, Lynn M.; and foster daughter, Zita VanAusDeln.

Private interment will be in Gethsemani Catholic cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to the Parkinson's Center of Oregon. Arrangements are by Hennessey, Goetsch & McGee.

John George Ditrich

A prayer vigil will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, 2001, and a memorial Mass at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 14, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gervais for John George Ditrich, who died May 21 at age 87. Mr. Ditrich was born Aug. 30, 1913, in Portland. He was a sawyer for A.F. Lowes Sawmill in Molalla for 20 years, then worked as a night superintendent at Portland State University for 10 years before retiring in 1975. He lived in Woodburn since 1993. He married Eva Marie Muth in 1935.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Duke and Ron; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Interment in Belle Passi Memorial Mausoleum in Woodburn. Remembrances to Hermit Sisters. Arrangements by Cornwell Colonial Chapel of Woodburn.

Mary C. Johnson

A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday, June 8, 2001, in St. Johns Catholic Church in Vancouver, Wash., for Mary C. Johnson, who died June 4 at age 81. Recitation of the rosary will precede the Mass at 10:30 a.m. at the church. Mrs. Johnson was born Mary C. Connor on Feb. 20, 1920, in Crystal, N.D. She moved to Vancouver in 1943, and worked in child care until retiring in the mid-1980s. About 1938, she married Rolland L. Johnson; he died in 1964.

Survivors include her son, Michael L.; daughter, Theresa K. Kirkpatrick; brothers, Omer Connor and Terrance Connor; sister, Elsie Letzring; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Interment in St. Johns Catholic cemetery. Remembrances to St. Vincent de Paul in Vancouver. Arrangements by Hamilton-Mylan.

Anna B. Lichtgarn

A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday, June 8, 2001, in Sunnyside Little Chapel of the Chimes in Portland for Anna B. Lichtgarn, who died June 4 at age 99. Mrs. Lichtgarn was born Anna B. Kessler on Sept. 19, 1901, in Portland. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Stephen's Church. In 1923, she married Benjamin Lichtgarn; he died in 1977.

Survivors include her daughter, Barbara Ehn; son, Wayne; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Interment in Mt. Calvary Catholic cemetery.

Susan Louise Mars

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 9, 2001, in Corbett Christian Church in Corbett for Susan Louise Mars, who died May 23 at age 40. Mrs. Mars was born Susan Louise Rhodes on March 31, 1961, in Corbett. She graduated from Corbett High School and lived in Corbett and Orient until moving in 1993 to Dexter, where she was a self-employed bookkeeper and tax consultant. In 1981, she married Jon T. Mars.

Survivors include her husband; son, Jason T.; parents, Jim and Jean Rhodes; brothers, Mike Rhodes and John Rhodes; and grandmother, Louise Rhodes.

Remembrances to Boa Constrictor Wrestling Club of Pleasant Hill. Arrangements by Rest-Haven in Eugene.

Edith Irene Neal

Edith Irene Neal died June 2, 2001, at age 88. Mrs. Neal was born Edith Newman on April 29, 1913, in Kenyon, Minn. She retired as an assembler for Jay Vee Brand Inc., a children's sleepwear manufacturer. She lived in Portland for the past 70 years. She married William Neal in 1943; he died in 1999.

Survivors include her nephew, Jess Brentlinger Jr.

Private service. Remembrances to American Diabetes Foundation. Arrangements by Portland Memorial.

Willis Patterson

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 9, 2001, in Bateman-Carroll Funeral Chapel for Willis Patterson, who died June 5 at age 85. Mr. Patterson was born Oct. 28, 1915, in Ashwood and was raised in Sisters. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army. He moved to Portland from Summerville in 1958 and was a truck driver for Weyerhaeuser and then Del Monte Meat, retiring in the early 1980s. In 1938, he married Lorraine Hug.

Survivors include his wife; sons, James C. and Douglas; daughter, Larie Silva; sisters, Wanda Bushnell and Annette Lands; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Interment in Summerville cemetery in La Grande.

Penny Ernestine Stanley

Penny Ernestine Stanley died June 2, 2001, at age 57. Mrs. Stanley was born Penny Rand on July 4, 1943, in San Antonio. She lived in the Portland area since about 1950, settling in Milwaukie in 1958, and worked as an account administrator for Fewel Northwest for 15 years. In 1962, she married Jerald G. Stanley.

Survivors include her husband; son, Shawn G.; daughter, Shelley E. McCoy; parents, Richard and Carrie; and brother, Richard Jr..

Private seervice. Interment in Riverview Abbey Mausoleum. Remembrances to the American Heart Association. Arrangements by Riverview Abbey.

Dr. Daniel Michael Devine III

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 6, 2001, in Finley's Sunset Hills Mortuary for Dr. Daniel Michael Devine III, who died June 2 at age 73. Dr. Devine III was born May 15, 1928, in New Haven, Conn. He received a bachelor's degree from the University of Connecticut, a master's degree from the University of Washington and a medical doctorate from Tufts University in Boston. He moved to Portland in 1967. He was on the department of radiology at St. Vincent Hospital and helped design the radiology center at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center. In 1982, he became chief of radiology at Columbia Memorial Hospital in Astoria. He retired in 1990. In 1965, he married Barbara Ziegler.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Daniel and W. Patrick; daughter, Jennifer; and sister, Mary Hanke.

Interment in Sunset Hills Memorial Park.

Elsie Marie Hamilton

A memorial service will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 6, 2001, in Trinity Presbyterian Church in Portland for Elsie Marie Hamilton, who died June 2 at age 81. Mrs. Hamilton was born Elsie Marie Dutton on July 10, 1919, in Havre, Mont., and was raised there and in White Salmon, Wash. She moved to Portland in 1937, and was an elementary school head secretary for 26 years, retiring in 1981. In 1942, she married Matthew C. Hamilton; he died in 1994.

Survivors include her son, Vernon; daughters, Karen Richardson and Carmen Hamilton; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Interment in Willamette National cemetery. Arrangements by Mt. Scott.
