Jean Ruth Hess

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Monday, June 4, 2001, in Hamilton-Mylan Funeral Home in Vancouver, Wash., for Jean Ruth Hess, who died May 31 at age 81. Mrs. Hess was born Jean Ruth Gallagher on Feb. 6, 1920, in Quitman, Miss. She lived in Portland during the 1950s and '60s and moved to Vancouver in the 1970s. She moved to Hillsboro in the 1990s and to King City five years ago. She was a bookkeeper for Lovett Interstate Theaters in Portland until her retirement. In 1942, she married Cedric Richard Hess; he died in 1989.

Survivors include her daughters, Cheri Lamb, Sue Baird and Pamela Maas; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Interment in Willamette National cemetery. Remembrances to the Boys & Girls Aid Society.

Robert Laverne McLean

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday, June 4, 2001, in Portland Memorial Funeral Home for Robert Laverne McLean, who died May 30 at age 75. Mr. McLean was born Oct. 22, 1925, in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, where he graduated from high school. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He moved to Portland from Spokane in 1960 and was a longshoreman for the Pacific Maritime Association for 26 years until retiring in 1986. In 1958, he married Frances Jobe.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Robert and Michael; daughter, Lonette Kopplin; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Interment in Portland Memorial Mausoleum. Remembrances to the American Lung Association.

Leone L. Meyers

A memorial service will be at 7 p.m. Monday, June 4, 2001, in Portland Memorial Funeral Home for Leone L. Meyers, who died May 30 at age 90. Mrs. Meyers was born Leone L. Senior on May 3, 1911, in Stockton, Kan. She moved to Portland in 1941. She was a homemaker and worked for J.C. Penney for about 10 years. In 1930, she married Richard Meyers; he died in 1996.

Survivors include her son, Dale; two grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Interment in Portland Memorial Mausoleum. Remembrances to Knights Templar Eye Foundation.

Michael Lewis Milner

A memorial gathering will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 3, 2001, in the Molalla Moose Lodge for Michael Lewis Milner, who died May 30 at age 58. Mr. Milner was born March 22, 1943, in Portland. He served in the U.S. Army. He was a computer specialist for several companies, and most recently was technical service director for Viable Links in Portland. He was past governor of the Molalla Moose Lodge. He moved to Scotts Mills in 1972. In 1968, he married Shirley Lawson.

Survivors include his son, Michael J.; stepdaughters, Debbie Countryman and Sherry Countryman; mother, Anita; brothers, Brian and Jim; sisters, Jo Orick and Resa; and four grandchildren.

Remembrances to Moose Heaven for Kids in Molalla. Arrangements by Unger in Silverton.

John Hae-Kyung Pak

A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Monday, June 4, 2001, in the Catholic Church of Korean Martyrs for John Hae-Kyung Pak, who died June 1 at age 78. Mr. Pak was born Oct. 6, 1922, in Chung Ju, North Korea. He graduated from the University of San Francisco in 1950 and served in the South Korean navy during the Korean War. He was an English teacher in Seoul and later a consultant and commercial specialist for the U.S. Embassy there. He moved to Portland in 1978 and was an assembler for Intel until retiring. He married Angela Chun-Mae Rho; she died in 1999.

Survivors include his daughter, Theresa In-Sook Choi; sons, Gregory Tae-Hwan Pak, Thomas Sung-Hwan Pak, John Yo-Hwan Pak and Michael Chin-Hwan Pak; and nine grandchildren.

Interment in Finley's Sunset Hills Memorial Park. Arrangements by Finley's.

Vincent John Ross Sr.

A service will be at 1 p.m. Monday, June 4, 2001, in Willamette National cemetery for Vincent John Ross Sr., who died May 30 at age 89. Mr. Ross was born April 18, 1912, in Issaquah, Wash. He served in the U.S. Army Air Forces during World War II. He moved to Portland in the late 1940s and worked for the U.S. Veterans Administration for six years and later was an investigator for the U.S. Department of Labor until retiring in 1974. In 1944, he married Anne Marie Sterr; she died in 2000.

Survivors include his sons, Vincent Jr., Jeffrey and Gregory; daughter, Beth Wesson; sister, Cecilia Rotella; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Remembrances to Cedar Mill Community Library. Arrangements by Donelson Sewell & Mathews.

Olenow I. Stuart

A service will be at 3 p.m. Monday, June 4, 2001, in Willamette National cemetery for Olenow I. Stuart, who died May 30 at age 79. Mrs. Stuart was born Olenow I. Chun on Sept. 23, 1921, in Oklahoma City. She moved to Scotts Mills as a child and graduated from high school there. She was a homemaker. She moved to Portland in 1958 and to Gresham two years later. In 1941, she married Charles Stuart; he died in 1963.

Survivors include her sons, Charles, John and Mark; daughter, Jeannie Schwartz; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Arrangements by Bateman-Carroll.

Dennis Warren Boddy

Dennis Warren Boddy died Jan. 9, 2001, of a heart attack at age 78. There will be no service. Mr. Boddy was born Aug. 26, 1922, in Portland. He graduated from Lincoln High School. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy. After the war, he received his master's degree from the University of California at Berkeley and his doctorate from the University of Washington. He taught zoology and biological sciences at Columbia Basin College in Pasco, Wash., for about 10 years and was its first dean of education, then taught biological sciences at Portland State University from 1964 until retiring in 1978, and was chairman of the university's general science department in the early 1970s. His field guide to birds of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, was published in Mexico.

Survivors include his sister, Virginia Benson; nephew, Clarcke Benson; niece, Corinne Benson; and four other nieces.

Interment isin Willamette National cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements are by Killingsworth Little Chapel of the Chimes.

Ross Joseph Bowles

A funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, in Wilhelm Funeral Home for Ross Joseph Bowles, who died Jan. 29 at age 86. Mr. Bowles was born Feb. 24, 1914, in Bellingham, Wash. He graduated from the University of Washington in 1936. He lived most of his life in Eugene, where he owned Alsea Veneer and then was a self-employed forestry consultant before his retirement in 1987. He was a member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Eugene. He moved to Portland in 1974, to Bend in 1989 and returned to Portland in 1997. In 1935, he married Patricia Detillion; she died in 1974.

Survivors include his daughters, Linda Job, Carolyn Geiger and Patricia Johnson; son, David; brother, David; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Interment is in Lincoln Memorial Park. The family suggests remembrances to the Salvation Army.

Lana May Bunnell

A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, in Lincoln Memorial Park for Lana May Bunnell, who died Jan. 29 at age 90. A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Mt. Scott Church of God. Mrs. Bunnell was born July 26, 1910, in Independence, Kan. Her maiden name was Hobson. She moved to La Grande as a child and then to Portland, where she attended Commerce High School. She lived in Salt Lake City from 1930 until returning to Portland in 1943. She was a homemaker and a member of the church. In 1929, she married Ralph Bunnell.

Survivors include her husband; sons, Alvin, Raymond and Edward; daughter, Roberta Petersen; sisters, Orla Lee and Mary Shrock; nine grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.

The family suggests remembrances to the church. Arrangements are by Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home.

H. Leed Carmean

H. Leed Carmean died Jan. 20, 2001, at age 78. Private services have been held. Mr. Carmean was born Feb. 17, 1922, in Denver. He was raised in Kirkland, Wash. After high school he attended Nebraska State Teaching College. He served in the merchant marines cadet corps and the U.S. Navy, both during World War II. Afterward, he studied architecture at the University of Washington and the University of Oregon, receiving his bachelor's degree in 1951. He lived in Alaska, Washington and Oregon, including Portland from 1971 to 1992, when he moved to Forest Grove.

Survivors include his daughter, Lesa; sisters, Joan Bidgood and Sandra Coleman; and special friend Florence Walstead.

Disposition is by cremation. Interment is in Willamette National cemetery in Portland. Arrangements were by Fuiten, Rose & Hoyt Funeral Home.

Irene Lucile Chamberlin

A funeral will be at noon Thursday, Feb. 1, 2001, in Finley's Sunset Hills Mortuary for Irene Lucile Chamberlin, who died Jan. 28 of multiple sclerosis at age 76. Mrs. Chamberlin was born Dec. 24, 1924, in Oregon City. Her maiden name was Williams. She grew up in Portland and graduated from Lincoln High School. She worked for Pacific Northwest Bell for 17 years as an operator and then in marketing until the early 1960s. She was a homemaker and helped raise money for St. Helens Hall and Lincoln High School. She married Richard C. Chamberlin. Susie Buchanan, Sally Waritz, Molly Studer, Joan and Jan Finn; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Private interment will be in Finley's Sunset Hills Memorial Park. The family suggests remembrances to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Oregon Chapter.

Jessie Etta Colton

Jessie Etta Colton died Jan. 21, 2001, at age 81. No service will be held. Mrs. Colton was born April 20, 1919, in Merrill. Her maiden name was Johnson. She was raised in Klamath Falls and served in the Women's Army Corps during World War II, achieving the rank of first sergeant. A homemaker, she moved to Portland in 1947 and worked part time for Gill Brothers Seed for several years. In 1947, she married Perry Colton; he died in 1988.

Survivors include her stepson, Patrick; sister, Amy Shoop; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Her son, Craig, died in 1959, and her stepson Jerry died in 1999.

Interment is in Willamette National cemetery. The family suggests remembrances to a charity of choice. Arrangements are by American Burial & Cremation.
