Phyllis Alda Boehme

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2001, in Community Presbyterian Church in Waldport for Phyllis Alda Boehme, who died June 14 at age 65. Recitation of the rosary will be at 7 p.m. Monday, June 18, in St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Waldport. Mrs. Boehme was born Phyllis Alda Winterburn on Jan. 27, 1936, in Portland. She graduated from Washington High School and later lived in Albany and Waldport. She was an agent for Waldport Insurance Center, retiring in 1998. She was past mayor and councilwoman for Waldport. She was also past president of the Waldport Chamber of Commerce and the founder of the South Lincoln County Scholarship Fund. In 1956, she married Fred Boehme; he died in 1996.

Survivors include her sons, Tom and Jerry; daughters, Sue Kirby and Sharon Orton; sister, Donna Staten; brother, Ted Winterburn; and 11 grandchildren.

Remembrances to the South Lincoln County Scholarship Foundation in Waldport. Arrangements by Bateman in Newport.

Adeline J. McKay Cross

Adeline J. McKay Cross died June 9, 2001, at age 86. Mrs. Cross was born Adeline J. Daniels on May 5, 1915, in Beavercreek, where she lived all her life. She worked on the family farm and was a clerk for the U.S. Postal Service in Beavercreek until her retirement. In 1936, she married Cecil O. McKay Sr.; he died in 1986. In 1990, she married Charles Cross.

Survivors include her husband; daughter, Marilyn Bender; son, Cecil O. McKay Jr.; and one grandchild.

No service. Interment in Beavercreek cemetery. Remembrances to a favorite charity. Arrangements by Holman, Hankins, Bowker & Waud.

Dr. Robert Lind Devine

Dr. Robert Lind Devine died June 6, 2001, at age 80. Dr. Devine was born Feb. 10, 1921, in Walla Walla. He graduated from Whitman College and the University of Oregon Medical School. He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps in the Korean War. He operated a dermatology practice in Eureka, Calif., and retired from Kaiser Permanente in Salem in 1994.He married Barbara Rosenthal in 1947.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Nancy Devine and Julie Devine Marshall; brother, Richard Devine; and four grandchildren.

Private service. Remembrances to Willamette Valley Humane Society. Arrangements by Portland Memorial.

Hazel Edith Bengtson

A funeral will be at 4 p.m. Sunday, June 17, 2001, in Oregon City United Methodist Church for Hazel Edith Bengtson, who died June 14 at age 91. Mrs. Bengtson was born Hazel Edith Getty on May 17, 1910, in Crystal Springs, N.D. She moved from Minnesota to Oregon City in 1948. She and her husband owned Holgate Paint & Wallpaper until their retirement in the early 1970s. She was a member of the church for more than 50 years. In 1928, she married Joseph Bengtson; he died in 1978.

Survivors include her daughters, Jeannine Bengtson Thompson, Joy Bengtson Russell and Betty Bengtson Frederick; sister, Bernice Bauske; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. Her daughter Mary P. Bengtson died in infancy.

Interment in Mountain View cemetery in Oregon City. Remembrances to her church. Arrangements by Holman Hankins Bowker & Waud.

Margaret Belle Pearson

A funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday, June 18, 2001, in Molalla Funeral Chapel for Margaret Belle "Peggy" Pearson, who died June 12 at age 90. Mrs. Pearson was born Margaret Belle Brownell on Jan. 18, 1911, in La Porte, Ind. She moved to Mulino in 1948 and lived in Canby before settling in Molalla. A homemaker, she married Ray A. Pearson in 1930; he died in 1976.

Survivors include her daughters, JoAn Berthold, Vivienne Knack, Lynda Wilson and Vickie Fuhrman; sisters, Ruth Sexton and Elizabeth Woods; brother, Lloyd Brownell; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

Interment in Zion Memorial Park in Canby. Remembrances to Molalla Area Seniors.

Macel Ethelyn Sanger

A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 16, 2001, in Hustad Funeral Home for Macel Ethelyn Sanger, who died June 12 at age 88. Mrs. Sanger was born Macel Ethelyn DeVore on July 7, 1912, in Canyonville. She moved to Portland in 1938 and was a homemaker. In 1952, she married Melvin Sanger; he died in 1978.

Survivors include her daughter, Kathy Carter Donaldson; sister, Lois Few; and two grandchildren. Her son, Donald E. Tucker, died in 1976.

Remembrances as prayers for peace. Interment in Skyline Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.

Margaret Bernice Sessions

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 16, 2001, in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Gladstone for Margaret Bernice Sessions, who died June 13 at age 93. Mrs. Sessions was born Margaret Steele on July 31, 1907, in Enterprise. She was a homemaker and moved to the Milwaukie area in 1981. In 1931, she married Albert Sessions; he died in 1989.

Survivors include her son, George W.; daughter, P. "Bee" Smith; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Interment in Portland Memorial Mausoleum. Arrangements by Portland Memorial.

Blaine LeRoy Turner

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 16, 2001, in the chapel of the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Vancouver, Wash., for Blaine LeRoy Turner, who died May 23, 2001, at age 81. Mr. Turner was born March 10, 1920, in Portland. He attended Gresham High School. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Marine Corps in the Pacific. In 1976, he moved to Vancouver, Wash. He owned Turner Trucking until retiring in 1984. In 1973, he married June Davis.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Elaine Johnson and JoAnn Hayes; son, Dale; stepsons, Brian Babcock, Eric Babcock and Robbie Rawleigh; sisters, Gladys Johnson and Kathleen Morgan; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. His stepdaughter Michele Babcock died in 1986.

Remembrances to the American Heart Association. Arrangements by Davies Cremation and Burial Services.

Helen L. Berg

A memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, June 17, 2001, in Portsmouth Trinity Lutheran Church in Portland for Helen L. Berg, who died June 14 at age 88. Miss Berg was born Nov. 11, 1912, in Divide County, N.D. She received nurse's training in Minot, N.D, and moved to Portland in 1943. She served in the Women's Army Corps as a nurse during World War II. She returned to Portland after the war and was a registered nurse for several hospitals, including Good Samaritan Hospital, until retiring in the early 1970s. She also worked as a private nurse. She was a longtime member of the church.

Survivors include her sisters, Wilma and Florence; and brother, Maurice.

Interment in Sunset Hills Memorial Park. Remembrances to Providence Hospice. Arrangements by St. Johns.

Mildred E. Bozich

A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2001, in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Milwaukie for Mildred E. "Mickey" Bozich, who died June 14 at age 80. Recitation of the rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday, June 18, in Peake Memorial Chapel. Mrs. Bozich was born Mildred E. Berg on May 20, 1921, near Moorhead, Minn. She moved to Portland in about 1940 and was a receptionist for KGW and later a PBX operator for Providence Hospital until retiring in 1973. She was a volunteer at the Ledding library of Milwaukie. In 1945, she married Rudolph R. Bozich.

Survivors include her husband; daughter, Lynette McDougal; son, Michael; and one grandchild.

Interment in Willamette National cemetery.

Gilbert Sady Chavez

Gilbert Sady Chavez died May 29, 2001, at age 72. Mr. Chavez was born April 6, 1929, in Coronel, Chile. He immigrated to Van Nuys, Calif., in 1970 and moved in 1974 to Portland, where he was a self-employed cabinetmaker and woodworker. He then owned Gilbert Body Shop for 20 years until retiring in 1998.

Survivors include his daughters, Cecelia, Maria A. and Natacha M.; brothers, Julio and Cesar; sisters, Uberlinda and Beatriz; and two grandchildren.

No service. Arrangements by Affordable Funeral Alternatives.

William Winton Compton

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2001, in Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home for William Winton "Bill" Compton, who died June 14 at age 67. Mr. Compton was born Oct. 2, 1933, in Long Beach, Calif. He served in the U.S. Navy, including service in the Korean War, and later served in the U.S. Air Force. He moved to Oregon City in the mid-1960s and was a vehicle maintenance worker for the U.S. Postal Service until retiring in 1996. In 1969, he married Rosemarie Cleek; she died in 2000.

Survivors include his stepsons, Steve Geske and Chuck Geske; stepdaughters, Lorraine Geske and Mary Craft; and nine grandchildren.

Remembrances to Willamette Falls Hospice in Oregon City.

Frances Marie Day

A funeral will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2001, in Finley's Sunset Hills Mortuary for Frances Marie "Sis" Day, who died June 14 at age 81. Mrs. Day was born Frances Marie Erickson on Feb. 11, 1920, in Murdo, S.D. She moved to Portland in 1940 and graduated from the University of Portland School of Nursing. A registered nurse, she worked for the Orthopedic and Fracture Clinic for 31 years, retiring in 1985. In 1948, she married William Day; he died in 1986.

Survivors include her son, David W.

Interment in Sunset Hills Mausoleum. Remembrances to the Harriett O. Jeckell Nursing Education fund at Providence St. Vincent Medical Foundation.
