Suzanne Stone

A memorial program will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, July 19, 2001, in the Gerlinger Alumni Lounge at the University of Oregon for Suzanne Stone, who died July 5 at age 70. Mrs. Stone was born Suzanne Finzer on Oct. 18, 1930, in Seattle, and moved to Portland as an infant. She graduated from Washington High School and from the University of Oregon. A homemaker, she moved in 1976 to Eugene, where she was chairwoman of the University of Oregon's Museum of Art docent council. In 1960, she married Stephen Stone.

Survivors include her husband; sons, David and Michael; mother, Eleanor Finzer; sister, Louise Wright; and two grandchildren.

Remembrances to the Art Docent Council Fund in care of the University of Oregon Foundation. Arrangements by England's Eugene Memorial Chapel.

Retha P. Stroud

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 19, 2001, in Eastside Church of Christ in Portland for Retha P. Stroud, who died July 13 at age 83. Mrs. Stroud was born Retha P. Peck on Jan. 2, 1918, in Balmorhea, Texas, and was raised in Las Cruces, N.M. She moved to Portland in the late 1940s, and was an Avon saleswoman for 36 years, retiring in 1997. In 1942, she married Kenneth Stroud; they later divorced.

Survivors include her daughter, Katherine Haga; brothers, Malcolm Peck and Kenneth Peck; sister, Ernestine Mello; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Her son, Kenneth Jr., died in 1976.

Maina Wati

A funeral will be at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2001, in Rose City Funeral Home for Maina Wati, who died July 15 at age 72. Mrs. Wati was born Maina Singh on Sept. 20, 1928, in Suva, Fiji. A homemaker, she immigrated to Portland in 1986. Her husband, Bhola Gosal, died in 1973.

Survivors include her daughters, Kushma W. Prakash, Maya Wati and Rukhmin Ram; sons, Shata Nand and Sarbada "Bob" Nand; stepson, Daya Nand; brother, Pratap Singh; sisters, Lalli Singh and Chandar Singh; 23 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. Her sons Sharda Nand and Manora Nand died earlier.

Interment in Rose City cemetery.

Ernest E. Wentz

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 19, 2001, in the Friendship Masonic Building in Portland for Ernest E. Wentz, who died July 15 at age 97. Mr. Wentz was born June 30, 1904, in Harvey, N.D. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army. He moved to Portland about 1960 and was a mechanic and substation operator for the Bonneville Power Administration until retiring about 1970. In 1945, he married Thelma Keebaugh.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Robert and Robert Beutler; daughters, Carol Fenstermacher, Kathy Wentz-Phelps, Dorothy Kramer and Meredith Shaide; sisters, Ida Iszler and Edna Gehring; and two grandchildren.

Interment in Willamette National cemetery. Remembrances to Shriners Hospitals for Children. Arrangements by Omega.

Malcolm A. Blanchard

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 31, 2001, in Ascension Episcopal Parish in Portland for Malcolm A. Blanchard, who died July 25 at age 87. Mr. Blanchard was born Oct. 13, 1913, in Newton, Mass. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Trinidad. He moved to Portland in 1943 and started Blanchard Construction Co. in 1945, which he owned until retiring in 1975. In 1939, he married Jean Allin.

Survivors include his wife; daughter, Elizabeth Jean B. Shawl; sons, Arthur A. and Robert N.; and five grandchildren.

Donald G. Botteron

A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 31, 2001, in Capitol Hill United Methodist Church for Donald G. Botteron, who died July 24 at age 84. Mr. Botteron was born July 29, 1916, in Columbus, Ohio. He was raised in Wood River, Ill., and graduated from the University of Illinois. He earned a doctorate in chemistry from Northwestern University. He was a professor of organic chemistry at Syracuse University from 1943 until retiring in 1981, when he moved to Portland. He was past president of the Geological Society of the Oregon Country and the Portland Astronomical Society (now Rose City Astronomers). In 1941, he married Elizabeth Louise Lamb.

Survivors include his wife; daughter, Carol J.; son, David A.; sister, Dorothy B. Krubel; and three grandchildren.

Remembrances to the Oregon chapter of the Nature Conservancy. Arrangements by Omega.

Gale Lewis Ferris

A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2001, in Finley's Sunset Hills Mortuary for Gale Lewis Ferris, who died July 26 at age 84. Mr. Ferris was born Oct. 28, 1916, in Lewiston, Idaho. He moved to Marshfield (now Coos Bay) as a child. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a sales representative for two furniture manufacturers for 40 years, working both in Portland and Southern California until retiring in the mid-1980s. He moved to Beaverton in the 1970s. In 1942, he married Margaret H. Williams.

Survivors include his wife.

Interment in Sunset Hills Mausoleum. Remembrances to the South Coast Hospice in Coos Bay.

Selma Juanita Gogl

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2001, in Immanuel Lutheran Church in Woodburn for Selma Juanita Gogl, who died July 26 at age 93. Mrs. Gogl was born Selma Juanita Forbes on July 17, 1908, in Kirkland, Wash., where she was raised. She graduated from Oregon Normal School in Monmouth and moved to Portland in the 1920s. She was an elementary school teacher in Curtin and later a substitute teacher in Hillsboro until becoming a homemaker. She moved to Woodburn in 1966. In 1931, she married Edgar Gogl; he died in 1991.

Survivors include her sons, Leon and Edgar "Rich" Jr.; brother, Loren Forbes; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Interment in I.O.O.F. cemetery in Lebanon. Remembrances to the Talking Book & Braille Services at the Oregon State Library in Salem. Arrangements by Simon-Woodburn.

Donald Leroy Hennessey

A memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2001, in St. John Fisher Catholic Church for Donald Leroy Hennessey, who died July 27 at age 75. Mr. Hennessey was born Sept. 9, 1925, in Portland. He graduated from Hill Military Academy and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific. He was an operating engineer for Pacific Power & Light until retiring in 1984. In 1987, he married Irene Adams.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Sharon Hughes and Karrie Caudle; son, Michael; and five grandchildren.

Interment in Willamette National cemetery. Remembrances to the Make-a-Wish Foundation. Arrangements by Zeller Chapel of the Roses.

Julia Hvidding

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2001, in Zoar Lutheran Church in Canby for Julia Hvidding, who died July 22 at age 98. Miss Hvidding was born Aug. 26, 1902, in Astoria. She moved to Canby as a teen-ager. She was a licensed practical nurse for Oregon City Hospital (now Willamette Falls Hospital) for 22 years until retiring. She was a member of the church for more than 75 years.

Survivors include her brother, Paul; and cousins.

Interment in Zoar Lutheran cemetery in Canby. Remembrances to the church. Arrangements by Canby Funeral Chapel.

Norman Samuel Lindow

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2001, in Portland Memorial Funeral Home for Norman Samuel Lindow, who died July 25 at age 85. Mr. Lindow was born May 7, 1916, in Chili, Wis. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Europe and North Africa, earning a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. He moved to Aloha in 1968 and was a master carpenter for the Todd Building Co. until retiring in 1981. In 1993, he married Lena Virginia Loftis.

Survivors include his wife; sons, John and William; sister, Jeanette Williamson; brother, Donald; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Interment in Portland Memorial Mausoleum.

Dorothy M. Lister

Dorothy M. Lister died July 20, 2001, at age 83. Mrs. Lister was born Dorothy M. Harris on April 8, 1918, in Unionville, Mo. She lived in California, where she was an office manager for several motels and also an apartment manager. She retired and moved to Brookings, where she co-owned a used-car dealership with her husband. She moved to Forest Grove last December. She married O. Perry Lister; he died in March 2000.

Survivors include her nephew, David Harris; and niece, Katherine Harris Wilen.

Private service. Remembrances to Washington County Hospice. Arrangements by Forest Grove Memorial Chapel.

Jean Ann Mura

A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2001, in St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Milwaukie for Jean Ann Mura, who died July 26 at age 69. Mrs. Mura was born Jean Ann Doty on March 29, 1932, in Oregon City. She graduated from Cleveland High School. She was past president of the Milwaukie Jaycettes and did volunteer work through her church and other organizations. She was past treasurer of U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Unit 72. In 1948, she married Lawrence "Larry" Mura.

Survivors include her husband; daughters, Linda Herboth, Karen Hanson and Laurie Dille; sister, Gwen Tharp; and 10 grandchildren. Her daughter Kathleen died in 1964.

Interment in Gethsemani Catholic cemetery. Remembrances to the church. Arrangements by Peake.
