Caroline Lottie Given

Caroline Lottie Given died June 29, 2001, at age 85. Mrs. Given was born Caroline Lottie Gillis on March 16, 1916, in Portland, where she lived all her life. She graduated from Roosevelt High School and was a homemaker. In 1938, she married William Given; he died in 1992.

Survivors include her son, Bill; sisters, Dorothy Olson, Lenora Anderson and Violet Van Buskirk; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Private service. Arrangements by Cochran & Waud.

Lloyd Dean Johnson

A service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 19, 2001, in Zion Memorial cemetery Mausoleum for Lloyd Dean Johnson, who died July 12 at age 73. Mr. Johnson was born Oct. 25, 1927, in San Mateo, Calif. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army. He moved to Canby in 1959 and was a laboratory technician for Crown Zellerbach for 36 years, retiring in 1985. In 1949, he married Evelyn Norris.

Survivors include his wife; son, Wayne D.; daughter, Karen E. Hall; sister, Dorrelle Aasland; and two grandchildren.

Remembrances to Willamette Falls Hospice. Arrangements by Canby Funeral Chapel.

June Frances Little

A memorial gathering will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 17, 2001, in Unthank Plaza in Portland for June Frances Little, who died July 13 at age 74. Mrs. Little was born June Frances Beggs on Sept. 28, 1926, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. A homemaker, she moved to Portland from Bowling Green, Mo., in 1986. In 1983, she married Melvin Little; he died in 1997.

Survivors include her daughters, Leslie Little, Beth Ann Little, Charlotte Little, Erica Little and Sylvia Phillips; sons, Ron Bizek, George Henry Davis, Ishmael Little, Eric Little and Claude Little; 20 grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

Remembrances to Legacy Visiting Nurse Association Hospice. Arrangements by Omega.

Robert Sam McLaren

A memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2001, in the Camas Friends Church in Camas, Wash., for Robert Sam McLaren, who died July 12 at age 47. Mr. McLaren was born March 5, 1954, in Vancouver, Wash. He graduated from Camas High School and received an associate's degree from Mt. Hood Community College. He was a refrigeration technician for several companies, most recently for United Western Grocers for the past year. He also played trumpet with several bands. In 1981, he married Linda Fjernestad.

Survivors include his wife; daughter, Sara; brother, Chris; and sister, Suzanne Pittard.

Interment in Camas cemetery. Arrangements by Staub's.

Carolyn Jean Miller

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 19, 2001, in Valley Community Presbyterian Church in Portland for Carolyn Jean Miller, who died July 11 at age 77. Mrs. Miller was born Carolyn MacDonald on March 27, 1924, in Portland. She graduated from Washington High School and was a secretary for the church for 22 years. In 1947, she married James T. Miller.

Survivors include her husband; son, Stephen; daughter, Susan Miller Harrison; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Interment in Willamette National cemetery. Remembrances to the church memorial fund. Arrangements by Young's.

Lorraine Averil Mizer

A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2001, in Evergreen Memorial Park for Lorraine Averil Mizer, who died July 14 at age 91. Mrs. Mizer was born Lorraine Jones on June 24, 1910, in Garibaldi. A homemaker, she moved to Portland in 1936. In 1931, she married Earl Mizer; he died in 1965.

Survivors include her son, Gordon; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Frank Laverne Morris

A service will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, July 19, 2001, in Willamette National cemetery for Frank Laverne Morris, who died July 9 at age 71. Mr. Morris was born June 14, 1930, in Washington state. He served in the U.S. Army in Korea. He moved to Portland in the 1970s, and was a heavy equipment operator for Western Foundry, retiring in about 1984.

Survivors include his stepson, Glenn Grant; sisters, Edna Hilley, Gloria Mayfield and Christina Klippert; and brothers, John Morris and Al Morrell.

Arrangements by Killingsworth Little Chapel of the Chimes.

Leon W. Nevills

A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2001, in Sandy Ridge cemetery in Sandy for Leon W. Nevills, who died July 12 at age 66. Mr. Nevills was born Oct. 9, 1934, in San Diego. He served in the U.S. Army. A truck driver, he owned Leon Nevills Transportation and worked for other companies until retiring for health reasons in May. He moved to Sandy in 1980, and to Wamic in 1995. In 1954, he married Marlene Chambers.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Ken, Steve and John; sister, Arleen Opoka; and three grandchildren.

Carol G. Pence

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 17, 2001, in Macy & Son Funeral Directors for Carol G. Pence, who died July 12 at age 79. Mrs. Pence was born Carol Bolts on May 23, 1922, in Portland, and was raised in Glendale, Calif. She moved in 1967 to Molalla and in the early 1980s to Oregon City, where she was a retail clerk for Hallmark for more than 10 years until 2000. She moved to McMinnville in March.

Survivors include her daughters, Lynn Cristian and Shirley Maben; sons, Albert Dunnuck and Stephen Dunnuck; sister, Maurine Bolts; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Interment in Buck Hollow cemetery in Willamina. Remembrances to any hospice program.

Dennis Pollard

A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2001, in Oregon City Church of the Nazarene for Dennis "Denny" Pollard, who died July 14 at age 49. Mr. Pollard was born Aug. 13, 1951, in Woodburn. He graduated from Gladstone High School. He was a self-employed salesman for tool manufacturing companies in Portland until retiring for health reasons in 1998. In 1975, he married Jennifer Roberts.

Survivors include his wife; mother, Naomi; sisters, Cindy Grandfield and Debi Pollard; and brother, Daryl.

Interment in Mountain View cemetery in Oregon City. Remembrances to Sunnyside Church of the Nazarene in Portland. Arrangements by Mt. Scott.

Linda Lee Riley

A service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2001, in Willamette National cemetery for Linda Lee Riley, who died July 12 at age 61. Mrs. Riley was born Linda Lee Torpling on May 9, 1940, in Portland. She graduated from Wilson High School and was an apartment manager for Prell Management for about five years until 1999. In 1982, she married David F. Riley; he died in 1999.

Survivors include her daughters, Lindy Davis and Billie Graeff; parents, Ursula and John Torpling; and sister, Myrna Miller.

Kina Claire Armstrong

A memorial gathering will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, 2001, in the University Club in Portland for Kina Claire Armstrong, who died Aug. 24 at age 82. Mrs. Armstrong was born Kina Claire Ross on Dec. 28, 1918, in Portland. She graduated from Portland State College. In the late 1940s, she was a correspondent for the North Lincoln News-Guard and a stringer for The Oregonian in Taft. She returned about 1950 to Portland, where she taught kindergarten for Portland Public Schools for about 25 years, retiring in 1982. She illustrated her husband's cookbook, "Dining a la Oregon." In 1950, she married John Armstrong.

Survivors include her husband; sons, Larry and Bob; and two grandchildren.

Nina Louis Ball

Nina Louise Ball died July 20, 2001, at age 62. Mrs. Ball was born Nina Louis Keats on Feb. 13, 1939, in Portland. She graduated from Grant High School and Whittier College. She moved to Whittier, Calif., in 1959 and owned Quaker Hill Farms, an antique and estate business. She was active in Portland Rainbow Girls and was a past Worthy Advisor. She was a wedding hostess for First United Methodist Church in Whittier for more than 20 years. She moved to Mapleton in 1995. In 1959, she married John Lautrup Ball; he died in 1995.

Survivors include her sons, Stephen, Jeffrey and David; daughter, Karen; sister, Virginia "Ginny"; and six grandchildren.

Service held. Remembrances to First United Methodist Church in Whittier. Arrangements by White-Emerson Funeral Directors in Whittier.
