Anna Simi Pionteki

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001, in Molalla Christian Church for Anna Simi Pionteki, who died Oct. 2 at age 89. Mrs. Pionteki was born Anna Beshore on Oct. 10, 1912, in Rich Hill, Mo. She moved to Milwaukie in 1935, and was a nurse's aide for several nursing homes, retiring from Park View Manor in Portland about 1974. In 1929, she married Jim Dunsworth; they were divorced. She married Leonard Simi in 1941; he died in 1964. In 1974, she married John Pionteki; he died in 1977.

Survivors include her daughters, Peggy Anderson, Dianna Hartley and Linda Daue; son, Harvey Simi; 20 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. Her son Robert Simi died in 1965.

Arrangements by Autumn Funerals.Robert Playford~ A memorial service will be at 3:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8, 2001, in Holman's Funeral Service for Robert Playford, who died Sept. 22 at age 71. Mr. Playford was born April 3, 1930, in Portland. He graduated from Franklin High School and the University of Oregon. He served in the U.S. Air Force. He was an agent for Allstate Insurance for about 40 years until retiring in the mid-1990s.

Survivors include his daughters, Kristen and Shanon; sisters, Peggy Sayer and Jane Playford; companion, June Gentry; and former wife, Bernetta.

Curtis Clark Scott

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001, in the chapel of River View cemetery for Curtis Clark Scott, who died Oct. 1 at age 53. Mr. Scott was born March 31, 1948, in McAlester, Okla. He graduated from Sacramento State College and the U.S. Army's Officer Candidate School in Georgia and served in the U.S. Army, retiring in the late 1970s. He moved to Lake Oswego in 1991. In 1984, he married Cathy Terzian.

Survivors include his wife; mother, Kathryn; and sisters, Sheila Roberts, Gayle Moss and Mary Kay Holmberg.

Remembrances to Oregon Humane Society. Arrangements by Autumn.

Edward DeWayne Settje Sr.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001, in Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Beaverton for Edward DeWayne Settje Sr., who died Oct. 1 at age 79. Mr. Settje Sr. was born May 30, 1922, in Creston, Neb. He was a supervisor for the Water Reclamation Plant in Corona, Calif., retiring in 1987. He lived in Beaverton since about 1998. In 1943, he married Vidella May Fenhaus; she died in 1988.

Survivors include his daughters, Jean Herkamp, Linda Wilson and Tana England; sons, Edward Jr. and William; brothers, Harold and Victor; sisters, Esther DiLeo, Marjorie Johnson and Shirley Molini; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. His son Curtis died in 2000.

Interment in Riverside, Calif. Remembrances to the Corona Volunteer Fire Department in Corona, S.D. Arrangements by Omega.

Eileen Stryker-Osmer

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8, 2001, in Wilhelm Funeral Home for Eileen Stryker-Osmer, who died Sept. 12 at age 83. Mrs. Stryker-Osmer was born Eileen Hart on June 8, 1918, in Minneapolis. She moved to Portland in 1921 and graduated from Franklin High School. She was a buyer for Meier & Frank for more than 40 years until retiring in 1980, when she moved to Canby. She and her husband owned Tutti Frutti Farms in Canby. In 1941, she married Gordon Stryker; he died in 1971. In 1974, she married Bill Osmer.

Survivors include her husband; and daughter, Gay Stryker.

Christopher Leo Brunette

A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 5, 2001, in St. Philips Catholic Church in Woodland, Wash., for Christopher Leo Brunette, who died Sept. 28 in an automobile accident at age 35. Mr. Brunette was born Oct. 2, 1965, in Phoenix, Ariz., and moved to Portland as a child. He worked for his brother's business, Pleasure Pools Construction for about the past seven years. He moved to Longview, Wash., in 1985. In 1992, he married Amy Schwarz.

Survivors include his wife; son, Justin; stepson, Daniel Elliott; daughter, Breshae; father, Leo; mother, Armetta Stupek; brothers, Barry, Jeff and Bruce; sister, Suzy Peterson; stepbrother, John Stupek; grandparents, Etta and Norbert Goulet; and one grandchild.

Interment in La Center, Wash. Remembrances to a trust fund for his children at any Washington Mutual bank branch. Arrangements by Woodland Funeral Home in Woodland.

Virginia Kelly Cannard

A memorial Mass will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 5, 2001, in St. Joseph Catholic Church in Vancouver, Wash., for Virginia Kelly Cannard, who died Oct. 1 at age 70. Recitation of the rosary will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, in the church. Mrs. Cannard was born Virginia Kelly on May 10, 1931, in Newberg, and was raised in Pocatello, Idaho. She graduated from Idaho State College. In 1953, she moved to Portland and taught fifth and sixth grades at Laurelhurst Elementary School for six years. In 1956, she moved to Vancouver, where she taught in the Clark College Parent Pre-school for a few years, and then was an office manager for her husband's insurance company until retiring in 1993. She was a long-time volunteer for Catlin Gabel School. In 1956, she married David L. Cannard.

Survivors include her husband; daughter, Kelly A.; son, David A.; sister, Ella Mae Winans; and two grandchildren.

Remembrances to the American Diabetes Association. Arrangements by Vancouver Funeral Chapel.

Charles W. Gibson

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 5, 2001, in Ross Hollywood Chapel for Charles W. Gibson, who died Sept. 29 at age 81. Mr. Gibson was born Sept. 10, 1920, in Nebraska and was raised in LaGrande and North Powder. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific. In 1945, he moved to Portland, where he was a mechanic for Tri-Met, retiring in 1985. In 1946, he married Leona Elfee Van Horn.

Survivors include his wife; stepsons, Edmund R. Savoie and Donald F. Savoie; sisters, Mary Paxton and Betty Gibson; brothers, James and Ray; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Interment in Willamette National cemetery.

Chrystal C. Johnson

Chrystal C. Johnson died Sept. 22, 2001, at age 52. Mrs. Johnson was born Chrystal McGinnes, Dec. 31, 1948, in Bremerton, Wash. She was a cook for Vernonia Senior Center, Cedarside Restaurant, Lew's Place and Sunnyside Restaurant, retiring in 1997. She moved to Vernonia in 1983. In 1988, she married Larry P. Johnson.

Survivors include her husband; sons, Michael Hillhouse and Matthew Hillhouse; brothers, Jim McGinnes and Mick McGinnes; sisters, Sheila Ward, Kathy Andrus, Dorothy Dunbar, Grace Gray and Debbie Speckin; and four grandchildren.

Private service. Remembrances to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements by Fuiten, Rose & Hoyt.

June Iris Jones

June Iris Jones died Sept. 22, 2001, at age 70. Ms. Jones was born June Iris Barnum on Oct. 3, 1930, in Weed, Calif. She moved to Portland in 1963. She was an emergency dispatcher for Bess Kaiser Hospital for 13 years, retiring in 1997.

Survivors include her sons, Mike Shaffer, Dan Shaffer and Chris Jones; daughter, Lee Ann Erceg; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Richard Nelson Lambert

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, 2001, in Mt. Scott Church of God in Portland for Richard Nelson Lambert, who died Sept. 28 at age 81. Mr. Lambert was born May 23, 1920, in South Bend, Ind. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in Europe. He moved in 1946 to Portland, where he worked for Kienow's Food Stores out of the Retail Clerks Union for 27 years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of the church. In 1948, he married Wanda R. Tracy.

Survivors include his wife; sons, Douglas and Paul; daughter, Joretta Schmaltz; sister, Imogene Kaminsky; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Interment in Willamette National cemetery. Remembrances to his church.

Richard Wilbur Lowry

Richard Wilbur Lowry died Sept. 25, 2001, age 91. Mr. Lowry was born Dec. 12, 1909, in Oregon City, where he lived all his life. He was a logger, and a millworker at Crown Zellerbach paper mill, retiring in 1972. In 1937, he married Jean A. McMillan.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Stella McDowell and Teri Inouye; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Private service. Remembrances to the Oregon Humane Society. Arrangements by Hillside Chapel.

Bertha Ann 'Betty' Mason

A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 5, 2001, in Troutdale Community Church for Bertha Ann "Betty" Mason, who died Sept. 29 at age 92. Mrs. Mason was born Bertha Ann Herruth on Dec. 19, 1908, in Greenbush,Minn. She owned grocery stores in Arizona, Colorado and Washington and moved in the 1950s to Portland, where she owned a grocery on Southeast Powell Boulevard, retiring in 1973. After retiring, she lived in Wickenburg, Ariz., for about 20 years before returning to Portland in about 1995. In 1924, she married Clarence Foulke; they divorced. She married LeRoy W. Mason in 1945; he died in 1992.

Survivors include her daughters, Jean Sigler and Sue Mason; son LeRoy "Bud" Foulke; nine grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Interment in Peoria, Ariz. Arrangements by Oregon Cremation.

Alene McInally

A funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2001, in the Sandy Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Sandy for Alene McInally, who died Sept. 29 at age 68. Mrs. McInally was born Alene Spencer on March 26, 1933, in Emmett, Idaho. She moved in 1955 to Portland. A homemaker, she also worked, most recently for four years as a seasonal tax preparer for Cory's Tax Service in Troutdale, retiring in 1995. She lived in Estacada and Wallowa before moving in about 1989 to Boring. In 1954, she married John D. McInally; he died in 1993.

Survivors include her son, John D. Jr. ; daughters, Janelle Goins and Patti Hart; mother, Erma Fuller; brothers, James Spencer and Phillip Spencer; sisters, Margaret Vickery and Denise Spencer; and 10 grandchildren.

Interment in Willamette National cemetery. Arrangements by Sandy Funeral Home.
