Bob Sullivan
Husband to one ... Father to Eight... Brother to Eight ... Friend to all! Robert (Bob) Vincent Sullivan, beloved member of the Ashland community, died peacefully and unexpectedly at his home Tuesday, (March 9, 2004) To those who knew him well and the countless lives he touched, Bob was a man of tremendous humility, compassion and principle.

Bob cherished his wife, Pauline, and their family of 8 children and 15 grandchildren. As much as he loved the richness and simplicity of life, he was prepared for a life-after. He was a daily, devoted member of Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church for over 40 years. With quiet acts of kindness throughout the county, Bob touched many lives. He could be found weekly doing dishes at St. Vincent DePaul, or delivering food to Magdalene House.

He was born in Pomona, California February 4, 1931 to Lena Magdelena and Arthur Ambrose Sullivan. Bob graduated from Pomona High School in 1948. He furthered his education and met Pauline Marie Pellkofer at Mount San Antonio College. Bob played first-string varsity basketball and wrote for the school newspaper at Mt. SAC, graduating A.A. in 1950. He then spent three years at Cal Poly in San Dimas.

He and Pauline were married January 5, 1952, in Covina, California. Two years later, they moved to a cattle ranch, The Bar Double Nine, in Dyer, Nevada. Bob, Pauline and young family settled in Ashland, Oregon in 1961, where they've since lived in the same house.

Bob was an insatiable hard worker, a big thinker, a doer. He was as comfortable with physical labor and getting his hands dirty; as he was reading a book and sharing life philosophies, specifically aabout his faith. He was an entrepreneur before that concept became vogue. In his early adult years, Bob earned a living (sometimes holding down two jobs) in ranching, farming and the wood products industry. He was a longtime foreman at Parson's Pine Products and the Bigfoot Corp. In the early 80s, Bob found his true calling-real estate. He had a passion and Midas touch for real estate and property development, particularly ranches and bare land. He was generous with his advice and perspective to anyone in need. Bob began his real estate career at Cascade in White City and, with success, formed his own brokerage company, Sulco Real Estate N.W. In recent years, Bob and Pauline developed Blossom View Estates on six acres of their Ashland property on the hill. Bob leaves his wife, Pauline, and eight children: Bob Jr., Christopher, David, Martin, Shawn and Pauline Sullivan, Lisa Roberts and Julie Mackinnon, along with their spouses. Bob cherished time with his beloved grandchildren: Andrew, Greg, Matthew, Hannah and Sam, Scott, Christopher and Julie Sullivan, Brendan, Keltain and Lukaiel Reece-Sullivan, Benjamin Roberts, Sharayah and Celeste Mackinnon and Chris Long and another grandchild (Julie and Rob Mackinnon) due in November. Bob is survived by his sisters: Mary Caldwell, Agnes Flack and Sue Taylor and brothers Francis and Jim Sullivan and numerous nieces and nephews. Brothers Leo, Arthur and Gerald Sullivan predeceased him.

Rosary will be held Friday, March 12, 6pm at Litwillers in Ashland. The funeral service will be Saturday, March 13 at 1pm at Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church in Ashland, followed by a reception at the church. Father Joseph Betschart will officiate. Internment will be at Scenic Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Bob Sullivan's name to: St. Vincent DePaul, Magdalene House and/or Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church.
