Kathryn "Kamy" Walter

1940-2003

Kathryn Mary "Kamy" White Walter of Cottage Grove died Nov. 16, 2003 at the age of 63.

She was born April 20, 1940, in Santa Monica, Calif., to Robert and Kathryn White.

She graduated from Alexander Hamilton High School in Los Angeles, Calif.

She received a BA in history from Stanford University and a master's degree in art history from Columbia University.

She married Fred Walter.

They moved to Cottage Grove in 1976.

She was a homemaker and a retired office manager of KNND Radio.

Walter was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Cottage Grove.

She was a community volunteer, serving on the school board, Parent Partnership, Cottage Grove Area Habitat for Humanity, Community Sharing and League of Women Voters of Lane County.

She enjoyed gardening, reading, arts and crafts projects, traveling, being with family and walking her dogs, Spirit and Maxie.

Survivors include her mother, Kathryn "Kay" White, and sister, Betsy Hobbs of Los Angeles, Calif.; husband, Fred Walter; son, Mark Walter; and son and daughter-in-law, Karl and Francine "Frankie" Walter of Cottage Grove.

England's Creswell Memorial Chapel was in charge of cremation.

A celebration of life was held at the First Presbyterian Church Saturday.

Memorial contributions may be made to Relay for Life or the American Cancer Society.

Bessie Moore

1923-2003

Bessie Moore of Creswell died Nov. 20 at the age of 80 from age-related causes.

Moore was born May 13, 1923, in Akron, Ohio, to Bert and Essie Woody.

She married Cliff Allen in Tennessee in 1936.

He later died.

She married James Moore in Nevada in March 1976.

She moved to Cottage Grove in 1944 and settled in Creswell in 1977.

She received a teaching certificate in clothing design with an emphasis on gowns.

She was a homemaker and worked as a seamstress as well as teaching seamstress design.

She was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church in Creswell, where she taught Bible study classes.

She enjoyed quilting, singing and playing the guitar.

She especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

She was honored with Creswell's Mother of the Year Award in 1989.

Survivors include her husband; three sons, Victor Allen of Cottage Grove, Jerry Allen of Redmond and James Allen of Brandon, Fla.; two daughters, Evelyn Doolittle of Culp Creek and Sharon Eriksen of Cottage Grove; a stepson, Alfred Moore of Coos Bay; a sister, Betty Raymond of Cottage Grove; 26 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

A daughter, Ellie Herald, died previously.

A funeral was held Nov. 22 at Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel in Cottage Grove.

Burial was at Sears Cemetery in Cottage Grove.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Evergreen Child Evangelism Fellowship in Eugene.

Delbert Dickey

1917-2003

Delbert Dickey, a 58-year resident of Yoncalla, died Nov. 17 of heart failure at the age of 86.

Dickey was born Aug. 1, 1917, in Junction City to Elbert and Minnie Dickey.

He married Verna Laursen in Junction City on Sept. 17, 1939. She died June 28, 2002.

He graduated from Junction City High School.

He owned and operated a Shell service station, a grocery store and Dickey's Auto Parts and Hardware.

He and his wife lived in Drain from 1940 until 1943, when they moved to Springfield.

They settled in Yoncalla in 1945.

He was a member of the Yoncalla Lions Club and a founding member of the Yoncalla Seventh-day Adventist Church.

He was active in building the Yoncalla Community Center and park.

The Lions Club honored him with the Melvin Jones Fellowship award in 1994 and he was the first recipient of the Lions Appreciation Award for Outstanding Service.

He enjoyed his work, gardening and community service.

Survivors include a son, Mike of Yoncalla; a daughter, Kathie Yost of Angwin, Calif.; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

A memorial service was held Nov. 22 at the Yoncalla Assembly of God Church.

Private inurnment was at the Yoncalla Cemetery.

Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel in Cottage Grove was in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Yoncalla Community Center.

Cora L. Fowler

1944-2003

Cora L. Fowler of La Pine, formerly of Cottage Grove, died Nov. 16 of heart disease at the age of 59.

Fowler was born March 13, 1944, in Eugene to Morris and Thelma Underwood Harwell.

She married Marvin Fowler in Cottage Grove on Nov. 8, 1963.

She lived in Cottage Grove until 1996, when she settled in La Pine.

She was a member of the Women's Missionary Council with the Assembly of God Church in Cottage Grove and the Southland Christian Center in Cottage Grove. She also belonged to the La Pine Christian Center.

She was an artist and enjoyed drawing and painting.

She also enjoyed hunting and fishing.

She especially enjoyed the outdoors.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Richard of Cottage Grove; a daughter, Malene Davenport of Cottage Grove; six grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Her funeral service was held Nov. 21 at the La Pine Christian Center.

Central Pines Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to any U.S. Bank, in the memory of Cora L. Fowler.
