Laurel "Larry" G. Grimshaw

Laurel "Larry" G. Grimshaw, 72, died in his home in Cartersville, Ga., on May 9, 2001.

He was born on Oct. 23, 1928 and lived in Jackson County from 1968 to 1986. He retired from the U.S. Army after 20 years, having served in the Army Intelligence Service and in the infantry. He served in Japan, Germany, Korea, and Vietnam.

Survivors include his wife, Sue Grimshaw, formerly of Ashland; two sons and one stepson, Ralph Grimshaw of Ruch, John Grimshaw of San Diego, Calif., and William Bean of Hawthorne, Nev.; two daughters and one step-daughter, Karla Katzenbach of Grants Pass, Romana Livingstone of Ashland, and Barbie Woodfin of Cartersville, Ga.; 14 grandchildren, three brothers and three sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, one grandson, and one granddaughter.

Meredith E. Durham

Meredith E. Durham, 84, died May 10, 2001 in Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.

Mr. Durham was born Jan. 12, 1917 in Buffalo, Okla., and graduated from Ashland High School in 1934. Afterward, he had a long career in the U.S. Air Force.

Survivors include his wife, Ermioni, a sister, Alberta Apenes of Ashland, and a brother, Eldon Durham of Albany, Ore.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2001, in the Kingdom Hall, Fort Walton Beach, Fla.

Peggy June Lee

Peggy June Lee, 80, died April 17, 2001, at her residence in Medford.

Arrangements are being made by Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.

Rex Andrew Morgan

Rex Andrew Morgan, 44, of Colestin died May 15, 2001 in a motor vehicle accident on the Hilt-Hungry Road in California.

Arrangements are under direction of Littwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.

Albert Timothy King

The funeral service for Albert T. King will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2001 at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home in Ashland. Interment will follow at 1 p.m. at Eagle Point National Cemetery, Eagle Point.

Pastor Ray Orndoff of the Clay Street Community Church of God will officiate.

Those who wish may pay their respects on Monday, June 4, 2001 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home in Ashland.

Mr. King, 80, of Ashland, died Wednesday, May 30, 2001 at Linda Vista Care Center, Ashland.

He was born April 20, 1921 at Sandpoint, Idaho to Charles R. and Rose O. (VanCurler) King. During World War II he served in the U.S. Navy on the USS President Jackson and was discharged in 1945.

On June 2, 1953 in Ashland, he married the former Opal (Edwards) Hopkins who preceded him in death on June 23, 1998. Mr. King was co-owner/operator of Hanscom-King Logging from 1953 to 1992.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and enjoyed traveling.

Survivors include daughters Judy King of Medford, Kathy Price of Butte Falls, Ore., Nancy Callahan of Reno, Nev., Dora Bowman of South Carolina; 14 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Dan, and one sister, June.

Arrangements are in care of Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Crematory of Ashland.

Oliver P. Mackey

There will be no services for Oliver P. Mackey, 73, who died Monday, Jun 4, 2001 at his home in Ashland. Memorial contributions may be made for all the dedicated care givers and their help at the Rogue Valley Hospice, Rogue Valley Foundation, 2825 E. Barnett Rd., Medford, Ore. 97520.

Mr. Mackey was born January 5, 1928 to Argus and Alice Beck Mackey in Rich Mountain, Ark. He was in the Navy during World War II and was a machinist for many years before retiring. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include one brother and five sisters.

Arrangements were made at the Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Crematory in Ashland.

Cary Robert "Bob" Bridges

Cary Robert "Bob" Bridges, 85, of Talent, died Tuesday June 5, 2001 at his home.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Crematory in Ashland.

Norma Elisabeth Bibby Fremd

A funeral service for Mrs. Norma Elisabeth Bibby Fremd will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 28, 2001 at the Litwiller-Simonsen Chapel in Ashland. The Rev. Nevitt Smith of the First United Methodist Church in Ashland will officiate. Burial will follow the service at the Scenic Hills Memorial Park in Ashland.

A visitation will be held tonight from 5 to 7:30 at the chapel.

Mrs. Fremd, 82, a long-time resident of Ashland, died Monday, June 25, 2001 at her home.

She was born Jan.17, 1919 at Hornell, N.Y. to Frank O. Bibby and Lydia E. VanDelinder. She married Robert Fremd on Dec. 8, 1945 at Albion, N.Y. She lived in Susanville, Calif., and Hilt, Calif., before moving to Ashland in 1958.

Mrs. Fremd served as a WAC from 1942 to 1945 in the South Pacific during World War II. S

he was a homemaker, mother, and grandmother. A grandson of hers said recently, "She was the most wonderful grandmother ever."

Mrs. Fremd enjoyed her membership in the United Methodist Church of Ashland, United Methodist Women, the Ashland Garden Club, and the Jackson County Extension Group. She was also the District Officer of the Church Women United.

Survivors include her husband Robert of Ashland; two daughters, Judy M. Brown of Stanwood, Wash., and Linda J. Namanny of Ashland; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.

Arrangements are under the direction of Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.
