Allison Gail Simpkin

A gathering of the family and friends of Allison Gail Simpkin was held Saturday at North Mountain Park Nature Center in Ashland.

Ms. Simpkin, 43, of Talent, died Wednesday (July 2, 2003) at Rogue Valley Medical Center, Medford.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 31 W. Sixth St., Medford, OR 97501.

She was born June 23, 1960, in Larkspur, Calif. She lived in San Clemente, Calif., before moving to Lakeview in 1999. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 2000.

Ms. Simpkin was a cake decorator for Tark's Market in Talent at the time of her death.

She enjoyed music, reading, camping and her family.

Survivors include a son, Jamie Shearer, Talent; a daughter, Sarah Simpkin, Cleveland; her mother, Gail Beason, Talent; her father and stepmother, Don and Bonnie Simpkin, Oxford, Ohio; two stepsisters, Kris Hall, Wyoming, Ohio, and Jodi Brock, Oxford, Ohio.

Arrangements: Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives and Crematory.

Ida Duke

Ida Duke, 95, of Ashland, died Thursday June 3, 2003 in Ashland. A private service will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Southern Oregon Humane Society, 2910 Table Rock Road, Medford, Ore. 97501.

She was born Jan. 30, 1908, in El Paso, Texas, to Eleanor Bragg and John Tubbs. In 1934, in Los Angeles, she married Edgar Duke. They divorced in 1950. She graduated as a registered nurse from the University of Nevada in Las Vegas in 1965. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1975.

Ms. Duke was a registered nurse. She worked in the Rogue Valley from 1975 until her retirement in 1980.

She was an avid reader, intrepid walker and ardent nature lover.

Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Barnes, Medford; a son, Ronald, Medford; and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.

Arrangements: Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.

Ellen T. Stevens

Ellen T. Stevens, 69, of Ashland, died Monday, July 7, 2003 at her home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Litwiller - Simonsen Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Ashland.

William A. Hoxie

William A. Hoxie, 86, of Medford, died Friday, July 4, 2003 at a foster care home.

Mr. Hoxie was boor March 11, 1917, in Ashland to Johnson Eugene and LaVilla Hoxie and lived in the Rogue Valley his whole life. He attended Southern Oregon State College. In 1946 he married Ruby Kretschmar in Vancouver, Wash.

Mr. Hoxie's National Guard unit was activated in 1940 and then he transferred to the U.S. Army Air Corps as a transport pilot. He worked for Reed Barton Investments until his retirement in 1980.

He enjoyed sports, reading, and crossword puzzles.

Survivors include one brother, Harry Hoxie of Ashland; one step-son, Charles McDonald of Texas; and one step-grandchild.

Mr. Hoxie was preceded in death by his wife Ruby (Kretschmar) Hoxie in 1982; his sister, Opal Devorraux; and two brothers, Rainer and Louis.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Perl Funeral Home, Medford.

"Hank" Hermon D. Cannon

Graveside services will be held for "Hank" Hermon D. Cannon at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 10, 2003 at the Eagle Point National Cemetery Interment Shelter. Chaplain John Braund will officiate.

Mr. Cannon died at the age of 63 on Friday, July 4, 2003 at his home in Talent.

He was born on Oct. 3, 1939 to Herman and Hallie Cannon in South Gate, Calif. He moved to the Rogue valley when he was 2-years-old and left for 8 years to serve in the U.S. Navy.

Mr. Cannon served in the Navy during the Vietnam War. He returned to the Rogue Valley after the service and worked briefly for Timber Products. Then he worked as a signal specialist for Southern Pacific Railroad.

He was an avid numismatist and collected small scale trains. He also enjoyed the companionship of his dog, Woo.

Survivors include his daughter, Jessica Bertrand of Medford, and one granddaughter,

He was preceded in death by 2 brothers, "Bud" Cannon and Edward Cannon; and one sister, Patsy Lou Cannon.

Arrangements are under the directions of Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives and Crematory, Medford.

Marley Jacob Pratt

A memorial service will be held for Marley Jacob Pratt on Monday, July 21, 2003 at Tree of Heaven Campground, on the Klamath River. For more information go to www.marleypratt.com.

Mr. Pratt, 18, of Ashland, died Sunday, June 29, 2003 at his home.

He was born Feb. 6, 1985 in Lagunitas, Calif. to Jennifer Massey and Andrew Pratt. He lived in Ashland from infancy until his death.

Mr. Pratt attended the Ashland Family YMCA preschool and Ashland public schools.

He enjoyed bikes, horses, four-wheeling, and socializing.

Mr. Pratt was a volunteer fireman for the Colestin Rural Fire Department. As a First Responder he was named Firefighter of the Year, 2003.

Mr. Pratt is survived by his mother, Jennifer Massey; his father, Andrew Pratt; his stepmother Cindy Warzyn; and his sisters Catie Pratt, Vanessa Blount, and Laura Blount. All are from Ashland.

Arrangements are under the direction of Litwiller -Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.
