Wanda Prettyman, 62, of Talent, died Friday, July 18, 2003, at the Ashland Community Hospital. Arrangements are under the direction of the Litwiller - Simonsen Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Ashland.

Maurece Pearl Roberson Lininger

Maurece Pearl Roberson Lininger, 87, of Ashland, died Thursday, July 17, 2003 at her home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Litwiller - Simonsen Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Ashland.

Maurece Pearl Lininger

A celebration of life and memorial service for long-time Ashland resident Maurece Pearl Lininger will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 26, at the First Presbyterian Church in Ashland.

Mrs. Lininger, 87, died Thursday, July 17, 2003 at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Ashland Schools Foundation, 100 Walker Ave., Ashland, Ore. 97520.

She was born Maurece Pearl Roberson on Dec. 18, 1915, in Mesa, Ariz., the second of 10 children born to Pearl McKenzie and Charles Edward Roberson.

The family moved to Ashland in 1923 and lived on North Main Street, in the current Coolidge House Bed and Breakfast. They moved to Grants Pass when the Southern Pacific Railway closed its Ashland office, but returned to Ashland and settled into their family home on B Street in 1932. She graduated from Ashland High School in 1933 and attended classes at Southern Oregon Normal School (now Southern Oregon University) the following year.

On Oct. 10, 1934, she married Ashland native Earl Lininger. He died in 1993, after 58 years of marriage.

Mrs. Lininger, along with her husband and members of the Lininger family, built several local businesses including Independent Truck Lines, Beagle Lumber Company, and M.C. Lininger and Sons, Inc. (now LTM). In the early years of the company's development, she traveled with her husband and children to remote rock-crusher sites throughout Oregon, setting up camps and cooking for crews.

Mrs. Lininger and her husband were dedicated supporters of Ashland children and schools. They established the Earl E. and Maurece Lininger Family Scholarship awarded annually to an Ashland High School graduate. In 1991 they led the Grizzly Homecoming parade as Mr. and Mrs. Ashland High School.

Survivors include two sons, Gregg and Earl W. "Bud," both of Ashland, a daughter, Nancy Milhoan, of Medford; a brother, Winfield Roberson; and two sisters, Mary Mayberry, Eugene, and Venita Frey, Portland; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by Three brothers, Maxwell Roberson, McKenzie "Buzz" Roberson, and Duane Roberson, and three sisters, Clara Ann Burdic, Laverne Berry and Charlene Burdic.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.

Alice Elizabeth Briery

Alice Elizabeth Briery, 84, formerly of Ashland, died Monday, July 21, 2003 at her home in Pacifica, Calif. Arrangements are under the direction of the Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Ashland.

William "Bill" Harold Toney

The Funeral Mass for Bill Toney will be at 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 23, 2003 at Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church, Ashland. The Rev. Joseph Betschart will officiate. Entombment will follow in Resthaven Mausoleum, Mountain View Cemetery, Ashland.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary and visitation will be at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 22, 2003 at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.

Bill Toney, 80, of Phoenix, died Thursday, July 17, 2003 at his home.

Bill was born Sept. 25, 1922 at Lake City, Calif. to Harry James Toney and the former Josephine Elizabeth Quirk. He graduated from high school in Cedarville, Calif. On May 27, 1941 in Reno, Nev. he married the former Edna Mary Darst, who preceded him in death on Nov. 8, 1998.

The Toney family moved to Lakeview in 1945 and to Ashland in 1955.

Bill worked for the City of Ashland as sexton at Mountain View Cemetery, retiring in 1986.

Mr. Toney enjoyed hunting and recreational vehicle travel. He was an active member of Our Lady of the Mountain Catholic Church in Ashland.

Survivors include daughters Julienne Dow, Las Vegas; Louise Merideth, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; Julie Brazil, La Pine; Mary Viglione, Denver, Colo.; Cindy Ramp, Medford; sons Harry, Dayton; David, Ashland; Tom, Denver, Colo.; Mike, Springfield; Pat, Molalla; Larry, Phoenix; Ron, Molalla; Jeff, Milwaukie, Ore.; sisters Kathleen Baker, Cedarville, Calif.; Mildred Johnstone, Red Bluff, Calif.; Virginia Grove, Cedarville, Calif.; Carolyn Joines, Las Vegas; brothers Kesner Toney, Ft. Bidwell, Calif.; Ervin Toney, Ashland; John Toney, Sacramento, Calif.; Jimmy Odbert, Redding, Calif.; 37 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Mary Toney in 1998, a son Rick Allen Toney in 1987, and a sister, Dorothy Maloney.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Crematory, Ashland.

D. "Clay" Gangnes

D. "Clay" Gangnes, 58, of Central Point, died Saturday, July 12, 2003 in Central Point. A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 20, 2003 at the First Church of the Nazarene. Pastors Kevin Gowland and Charlie Marsolini officiated. Interment is at Scenic Hills, Ashland.

Mr. Gangnes was born Oct. 12, 1944, in Fargo, N.D. to Ludvig and Myrtle Gangnes. On Aug. 28, 1966, he married Donna Blumhardt, who survives, in Kulm, N.D.

He moved to the Rogue Valley in 1972 from Phoenix, Ariz. He worked in general contracting, manufacturing, residential building and with trolleys. Mr. Gangnes served in the national Guard.

He belonged to the Central Point First Church of the Nazarene, where he led Bible study and prayer groups. He was also a member of Africa West partners, which supports missions in French-speaking Africa; Open Hands Open Heart, which supports missions in Third World countries, and the Work Witness Group, which supports mission work in construction.

Survivors include his wife, Donna Gangnes of Central Point; one son, Kawika Joe of Portland, Ore.; two daughters, Michele Surgeon and Marti Hill of Central Point; his brother, Larry Gangnes or Argusville, N.D.; his sister, Linda Cooley of Ashland, and 11 grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Open Hands Open Heart, P.O. Box 189, 711 Medford Center, Medford, Ore., 97504.

Arrangements are under the direction of Conger-Morris Central Point Chapel, Central Point..

Bob L. (Robert) Jones

Bob L. (Robert) Jones, 74, of Ashland, died Wednesday, July 23, 2003, at his home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary, Medford.

Rose I. Storey

The memorial service for Rose Irene Storey will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 26, 2003 at Grace Lutheran Church, Ashland. Private entombment will be in the Mountain View Cemetery Resthaven Mausoleum, Ashland.

Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Lutheran Church, Building Fund, 660 Frances Lane, Ashland, Ore. 97520 or to the Alzheimer's Disease & Related Disorders Association, Inc., Southern Oregon Chapter, 2860 State St., Medford, Ore. 97501.

Mrs. Storey, 80, of Ashland, died Wednesday, July 23, 2003 at the Linda Vista Care Center, Ashland. She was born Nov. 6, 1922 at Alexis, Ill., the daughter of Elmer Russell and Grace Marie Pattison.

Mrs. Storey graduated from Aldedo High School in Aldedo, Ill. in 1940, then attended Monmouth College and the University of Illinois, graduating from the University of Illinois. During World War II she was trained in physical therapy at the Mayo Clinic. She earned a master's degree in home economics-food and nutrition, from San Diego State University in 1972.

In 1946 she moved to California where she met James William Storey. They were married June 21, 1948 in Seaton, Ill. Mr. Storey preceded her in death in 2000.

Mr. and Mrs. Storey moved to Ashland in 1982. They were members of Grace Lutheran Church, Ashland.

Survivors include two sons, Mark L. Storey of Guadalajara, Mexico, and Robert R. Storey of Pasadena, Calif.; and a daughter, Kristina L. Storey of Ashland. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Stephen and Donald Pattison.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Litwiller - Simonsen Funeral Home, Ashland.
