Joe Arthur Gamble

Joe Arthur Gamble, 57, died Thursday, June 5, 2003 in Vancouver, Wash. Burial was held in Willamette National Cemetery, Portland.

Mr. Gamble was born in San Diego Calif. on August 28, 1945. He attended Briscoe Elementary, Ashland Jr. and Sr. High Schools. He spent most of his adult life in the Portland and Vancouver area where he was a Computer CAD Designer.

The past few years he lived in Little Rock, Ark., Fort Worth, Texas, and Las Vegas, Nev., before returning to the Northwest.

Survivors include a sister Judy Gamble of Las Vegas, Nev.; his great-aunt, Vera Lashua of Ashland; cousins Linda Barnett of Concorda, N.C.; Peter Weber, Dallas, Texas; Jim Wright and Richard Wright of Medford.

Kevin John Goodman

Kevin John Goodman, 23, of Medford, died Monday, June 23, 2003 in Medford. A private service will be held. Private interment will be at Central Point Masonic Cemetery.

He was born Oct. 7, 1979, in Ashland, to Randall and Nora (Azzaro) Goodman. He was raised in Medford and attended Washington Elementary School, middle school and high school in Medford.

He left high school after two years but later returned and finished the two remaining years' requirements in one year.

After high school, Mr. Goodman worked in construction, including work on the Rogue Valley Mall.

He enjoyed fishing, rafting, walks, long drives and bicycling.

Survivors include his parents, Randy and Nora Goodman, Medford; a brother, Nicholas, Medford; a sister, Kristen, Medford; and his grandparents, Al Goodman, Las Vegas, and Shirley Goodman, in California.

Arrangements: Rogue Valley Funeral Alternatives and Crematory, Medford.

Ida Cora Burns

A memorial service for Ida Cora Burns will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 5, 2003, at the First United Methodist Church, Ashland. Mrs. Burns, 92, of Ashland died Thursday, May 22 at Ashland Community Hospital.

Mrs. Burns was born Nov. 22, 1910, to Sarah E. and Schuyler Gunter in Ashland. The family moved to Grants Pass, Ore. in 1922. Mrs. Burns graduated from Grants Pass High School in 1929 and Oregon State University in 1934. She began working that year as librarian at Ashland Junior High School and later accepted a teaching position at Ashland High School.

In June, 1937, she married Ashland resident Phillip Lee Burns and moved from the Rogue Valley for eight years before returning to Ashland in 1945.

In 1960 Mrs.. Burns returned to teaching at AMS and was Dean of Girls until retiring in 1972. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Ashland Pinochle Club, and volunteered at the Ashland Community Hospital, Meals on Wheels, and the Ashland Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center.

Mrs. Burns enjoyed travel, camping, gardening, arts and crafts, quilting, and crocheting.

Survivors include five sons, Richard Burns of Roseburg, Ore., Bruce Burns of Honolulu, Hawaii, Jerome Burns of Kearneysville, W. Va., Martin Burns of Ashland, and Philip Burns of Orting, Wash.; 10 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Burns was preceded in death by three brothers, Gerald, Clyde, and Merrill Gunter; and two sisters, Myra Bailey and Beatrice Cornilsen.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Litwiller - Simonsen Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Ashland.

Florence M. Minshall

The memorial service for Florence M. Minshall will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 3, 2003 at the Medford Congregational Church. The Rev. Paul Robinson will officiate. Interment will be at Memory Gardens in Medford.

Mrs. Minshall, 90, of Medford, died April 10, 2003, in a foster home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Camp Latgawa, c/o First United Methodist Church (FUMC), 607 W. Main St., Medford, OR 97501, or the Medford Congregational Church Music Program, 1801 E. Jackson St., Medford, OR 97504.

She was born Dec. 9, 1912, in Turton, S.D., to George and Goldie Goldthorp. On Sept. 2, 1937, in McLaughlin, S.D., she married Alvin Minshall, who died in 1982. She moved to the Rogue Valley in 1948 and lived in Jacksonville until 1988.

Mrs. Minshall was a school teacher in Medford and South Dakota. She had a lifelong interest in theater and was active in Medford Footlighters in the 1950s and '60s. She used her dramatic skills to produce plays for church groups, especially fund-raisers for Methodist Camp Latgawa.

She also directed children's plays for the annual Children's Festival, and worked in partnership on old-time melodramas at Pioneer Village in Jacksonville and Talent.

In 1983, she and her daughter and son-in-law turned the old Talent Feed Store into The Minshall Theater, now the home of Actors Theatre.

Survivors include a daughter, Marsha Lovitt, Medford; two sons, Bob, Portland, and Dick, Phoenix, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Dorothy Fabregas.

Arrangements: Memory Gardens Mortuary, Medford.

Catherine Beatrice Livingston

Catherine Beatrice Livingston, 90, of Ashlnad, died Wednesday, April 30, 2003 at home. Arrangements are under the direction of the Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Ashland.

James N. Hubbard Jr.

James N. Hubbard Jr. of Westwood, died Tuesday, April 29, 2003. Beloved husband of Hilda M. (Matthews), and dear father of James N. III of Newport News, Va., Lee Seater of Ashland, Virginia Rothwell of Columbia, Mo. and Jame Hubbard of Portland. Also survived by 12 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations to St. John's Episcopal Church, 95 Deerfield Ave. Westwood, Mass. 02090 or to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.

Arrangements are under the direction of Folsom Funeral Home, Mass.

Spencer G. Bailey

Spencer G. Bailey, 67, of Medford, died Monday, April 28, 2003 at his home. No service is planned. Interment will be at Trail Pioneer Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Jackson County Animal Care and Control Center, 5595 S. Pacific Highway, Phoenix, OR 97535.

He was born June 22, 1935, in Pottsville, Pa., to Joseph and Ruth Deiss Bailey. He graduated from Sequoia High School in Redwood City, Calif., and attended college in San Mateo, Calif. On Jan. 30, 1960, in Reno, Nev., he married Janice Hight, who survives.

Mr. Bailey worked for Ampex Corp. in Redwood City, Calif., for 19 years. He retired from Electric Research Institute in Palo Alto in 1992, after 16 years. He and his wife moved to the Rogue Valley after his retirement.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.

Mr. Bailey judged dachshund field trials in Washington, Oregon and California for many years. He also did volunteer work with Friends of the Animal Shelter.

He enjoyed dachshunds, the Dallas Cowboys, and fly fishing with the Fudpuckers.

He is survived by his wife, Janice Bailey, Medford.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.
