Wilma Virginia "Peggy" Bridges
Wilma Virginia "Peggy" Bridges, 83, of Talent, died Saturday, March 22, 2003, at her home where she lived with her husband, Bob, until his death in 2001. Since her husband's death, she remained in her home where she was cared for by her daughter.
Mrs. Bridges was born in Union City, Wash., on Feb. 19, 1920, to Bertha and Bert Stanley. She was the adopted daughter of Mary and William Terry and lived in Bellingham, Wash., until 1963. At that time she married Bob Bridges and moved to Lacey, Wash., and then to Anchorage, Alaska, where the couple resided for 37 years prior to moving to Oregon.
Mrs. Bridges graduated from Bellingham High School (now Whatcom Middle School) in 1938. She then entered Success Business College where she graduated in 1940. Her previous employment was as credit manager for Bellingham Credit Bureau, Wahl's Department Store and St. Joseph Hospital.
While residing in Anchorage, she was employed by Montgomery Ward and Anchorage Community Hospital.
A past member of the Credit Women's Association in Bellingham, Mrs. Bridges was also a member of the Moose, Elks and Alaska Shrine Waheed Court. She enjoyed knitting, baking, fishing and traveling. Her primary enjoyment was being alongside her husband.
Survivors include: her daughter, Joan Paulsen, of Talent; four step-daughters: Judy Brodeur and Jennifer Rieger of Ashland, Sandra Evenson of Salem and Michelle Nanney from Southern California; four step-sons including Ted Bridges of Bellevue, Wash., Jim Bridges of Redmond, Wash., Phil Bridges of Olympia, Wash., and Chuck Bridges of Phoenix; three sisters: Lona Lyddam of Bellingham, Wash., Verna Hall of Tacoma, Wash., and Jewell Dunston of Seattle, Wash.; in addition to 19 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, five nieces and two nephews.
Mrs. Bridges was preceded in death by her husband, parents, her adopted parents and a sister, Dottie Buchanen.
A memorial will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Oak Valley Retirement Community Center in Talent. Hospice Chaplain Rev. John Braund will officiate the service. A graveside devotion reuniting "Peggy and Bob" will be held at 3:30 p.m. at Mountain View Cemetery in Ashland.
Stella Anne Marshall
Stella Anne Marshall, 83, of Ashland, died Tuesday, March 25, 2003, at her residence.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Crematory in Ashland.
Ruth Evelyn Dunn
Ruth Evelyn Dunn, 88, of Medford, died at home Sunday, March 23, 2003. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday at the Perl Funeral Home at Siskiyou Memorial Park in Medford.
Born Jan. 23, 1915 to Albert and Zella (Harmon) Hanscam of Medford, Mrs. Dunn graduated from Medford High School in 1931 before attending Southern Oregon Normal School, where she graduated in 1935. In 1955 she earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Southern Oregon College.
She was a school teacher for the Central Point and Medford school districts, retiring in 1978 after 32 years of teaching. She was also a former employee at the Ashland Daily Tidings.
Mrs. Dunn enjoyed family, friends and neighbors. She also enjoyed gardening, cooking - especially baking cookies - and sewing and knitting. She was a 50-year member of the First Presbyterian Church of Medford where she served as a deacon and an elder. She was also a member of the YMCA for 20 years. She held professional memberships in the National Education Association, Oregon Education Association and Oregon Retired Educators Association.
Mrs. Dunn married Fred William Dunn on Sept. 30, 1936 who preceded her in death along with her son, David William Dunn and her brother, Glenn Hanscam.
She is survived by: two daughters, Delora Copple of Ashland and Linda Eng of Philomath; two sisters, Clara Fader of Ashland and Genevieve Evans of San Diego, Calif.; one brother, Carl Hanscam of Occidental, Calif.; and five granddaughters and seven great grandchildren.

Mark Joseph McNeary
Mark Joseph McNeary, 42, died Wednesday, March 19, 2003 in Roseburg.
Mr. McNeary was born and raised in Klamath Falls. He later graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1978 and went on to graduate form Southern Oregon University in 1998.
Survivors include: his wife, Micki, and son, Max of Roseburg; stepdaughter Jasmine Blair of Ashland; brothers Mike McNeary of Seattle, Wash., Doug McNeary of Roseburg, Tom McNeary of Prineville, Bill McNeary of Klamath Falls and Dan McNeary of Roseburg; and sisters Maureen Erlandson of Roseburg and Joann Bowers of Seattle, Wash.
Donations may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
David E. Craigie
David E. Craigie, 67, died Thursday, March 27, 2003 at the Hearthstone Manor in Medford. No services are planned.
Mr. Craigie, born in Toronto, Canada, to Alec and Gwen Craigie.
He lived in the Rogue Valley for the last 12 years after relocating from Arcata, Calif. He was a professor at Humboldt State College until retiring in 1990.
On March 22, 1975, Mr. Craigie married Jan (Chegwidden) Craigie, who survives. Other survivors include: sister Faith Ebert of Pennsylvania; sons Andrew Craigie of Pomeroy, Wash., and Cameron Craigie of Olympia, Wash.; daughter Shellah Garrett of Verdugo City, Calif.; stepdaughter Marti Chegwidden of Chico, Calif.; stepson Tom Chegwidden of Eureka, Calif.; and five grandchildren.
Margaret J. Preston
Margaret J. Preston, 92, of Ashland, died Friday, March 28, 2003 at her residence.

Benjamin "Kip" Lombard, Jr., 62, of Ashland, died Thursday, March 27, 2003 at his residence.

Dorothy Ellen Smith-Saunders
The memorial service for Dorothy Ellen Smith-Saunders will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 2, 2003, at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home in Ashland. Rev. Carroll Cline of Ashland will officiate.
Mrs. Smith-Saunders was born May 25, 1912 in Stidham, Okla., to William Jackson Key and the former Birdie Sinor. On June 14, 1930, Mrs. Smith-Saunders married Carl "Buck" Smith in Altus, Okla. Mr. Smith preceded her in death in Eureka, Calif., in November 1963. On Nov. 20, 2001, she married Sy Saunders, who survives.
Mrs. Smith-Saunders came to the Rogue Valley in 1940 from Ratone, N.M. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She enjoyed fishing, sewing, gardening and cooking.
Survivors include: a daughter, Patricia J. Smith of Medford; a son, Bobby D. Smith of Lacy, Wash.; a brother, Clarence J. Key of Houston, Texas; sisters Estell Tiger of Wetumka, Okla., and Ozella Aiken of Pleasanton, Calif.; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great, great-grandchildren. Her first husband, four children, one grandchild and one brother preceded her in death.

Margaret Johanna (Boutwell) Preston
Margaret Johanna (Boutwell) Preston, 92, of Ashland, died Friday March 28, 2003 at home. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, March 31 at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home with internment at Mountain View Cemetery.
Mrs. Preston was born Sept. 28, 1910 in Boston, Mass., to Hans Christian Hansen and Margaret J. Anderson. She later worked as a cosmetics representative before retiring in 1962.
A Rogue Valley resident for 15 years, Mrs. Preston enjoyed gardening, cooking and reading. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Sweet Adelines and a hospital volunteer in Kaiser, Calif.
Mrs. Preston is survived by: her sons, Ronald M. Boutwell of Ashland, Richard C. Boutwell of Norfolk, Va. and Thomas L. Boutwell of Albuquerque, N.M.; two sisters; one brother; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by husbands Clinton E. Boutwell in 1947 and Banks R. Preston in 1960 and by her son Clinton E. Boutwell Jr. in 1998.
