Edith "Louise" Boustead

1921-2004

Edith "Louise" Boustead, a 44-resident of Cottage Grove, died May 6 at the age of 83 from cancer.

She was born April 9, 1921, in Winterset, Iowa, to Frank and Mary Cooper.

She married Joseph Emge in 1937 and he died in 1950.

She married Robert Boustead March 24, 1957, in Woodbine, Iowa.

They moved to Cottage Grove in 1960.

Above all, her family was of utmost importance to her.

She also enjoyed painting, sewing, basket making, flowers and crafts.

She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Altar Society and a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church for over 43 years.

Survivors include her husband; sons: Eric Emge of Albany and Bobby Boustead of Seattle, Wash.; daughters: Judith Connole and Beverly Ward of Cottage Grove, Jean Duncan of Eugene and Anna Reich of Salem; sister: Frances of Sioux City, Iowa; 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

A recitation of Rosary was held May 9 at Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel in Cottage Grove.

A service was held May 10 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church and interment was at Sears Cemetery in Cottage Grove.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the American Cancer Society, 2350 Oakmont Way, Suite 200, Eugene, OR 97401.

Vesta Bell Edin

1920-2004

Vesta Bell Edin, of Tigard, died May 1 at the age of 83 from cancer.

She was born Nov. 20, 1920, in Rainer to Wilson and Alice Lowman.

She attended one year of college.

She married James Edin in Eugene Jan. 4, 1941.

She formerly lived in Yoncalla from 1946 to 1980, Tillamook from 1980 to 1996, and Eugene from 1996 until she moved to Tigard to be with family two years ago.

She was a homemaker and a bookkeeper for a family logging business.

She enjoyed reading.

She was a member of Westside Christian Church in Eugene and the Tillamook Christian Church.

She was also a member of the Tillamook Grange.

Survivors include her husband; sons: Phillip Edin of Tigard and Terrence Edin of Lexington, Ky.; sisters-in-law: Wilma Stoddard and Lillian Lowman of Elmira; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

A service was held May 6 at Lane Memorial Chapel and interment was at Lane Memorial Gardens in Eugene.

Arrangements were under the care of Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be made to Tigard Christian Church, 13405 S.W. Hall Blvd., Tigard, OR 97223.

Mary Agnes Giesel

1923-2004

Mary Agnes Giesel, 81, of Dorena died Friday at McKenzie-Willamette Hospital in Springfield.

Mrs. Giesel was born May 4, 1923, in Nashua, Mont.

She married Joseph Giesel June 19, 1942. She and her husband moved to Oceanside, Calif., where her husband was stationed at Camp Pendleton. They lived in Oceanside for 35 years before retiring to their home in Dorena, where she lived for the past 22 years.

She was a homemaker and loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

She loved gardening, sewing, needlework, cooking, camping, traveling, reading, playing cards, puzzles and helping neighbors.

She is survived by her husband: Joseph Giesel of Dorena; sons: Gerald Giesel and his wife, Kathleen, of Los Banos, Calif.; Ronald Giesel and his wife, Beverly, of Rowland Heights, Calif.; and Michael Giesel and wife, Denise, of Oceanside, Calif.; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Private memorial services were arranged.

Remembrances may be made to the charity or organization of choice.

Velma H. Kirk

1916-2004

Velma H. Kirk, 88, of Springfield, died Friday of age-related causes.

A service will be held today at 2 p.m. at Brumbaugh Cemetery in Cottage Grove.

Visitation was scheduled Tuesday at Smith-Lund-Mills Chapel.

She was born April 2, 1916, to Bert and Minnie Myers of Latham.

She grew up and attended school in Cottage Grove.

She married Harold Kirk July 22, 1933, in Cottage Grove.

She also lived in the Pleasant Hill and the Jasper area for 20 years.

She was a supervisor at Row Crop Farming.

She was a bean boss for Olsen Farms in Dexter and subcontracted with other farms.

She owned and operated the Jasper Restaurant for a number of years and worked at the Pleasant Hill Café.

She sold Shaklee products and was an entrepreneur.

She was an active member of the Central Congregation of the Jehovah's Witnesses in Springfield and was baptized in 1955.

She enjoyed crocheting, reading the Bible and canning salsa.

Survivors include seven daughters: Neva Jean Baird, Myrna Lee Buss, Erla Faye Squire, Darla Kay Lauzon and Ronda Gay Prewitt of Springfield, Elva Gail Townley of Pleasant Hill and Velda Zee Hysell of Albany; three sons: Darrel Marvin Kirk of Dexter, Royce Neil Kirk of Prineville and Tracy Carl Kirk of Springfield; a brother: Loren Leonard Myers of Cottage Grove; a sister: Erma Z. Green of Eugene; 41 grandchildren, 80 great-grandchildren and 21 great-great-grandchildren.
