John Edward Homer
John Edward Homer, the only son of Gene and Shirley Homer, passed away Saturday, September 18, 2004.

He left behind his beautiful wife Melinda Susan; his sisters Pamela Oseles-Mast, Jeanne Homer, and Sandy Homer; his niece Jessica Oseles; as well as his beloved dog Cori.

John was brought into this world on June 7, 1981, and he brought with him the gift of unconditional love and set an example to us all of what it is to have real courage.

John's passion in life was motorcycles and almost anything he could go fast on. He had plans of attending the Motorcycle Mechanics Institute in Phoenix, AZ beginning in January to pursue a career where he could live his passion.

His smile is forever embedded in the hearts of all his family and friends, and his love and spirit will be carried on through us all.

Thanks you for being such a beautiful part of our lives John, we miss you more than anything.

MEMORIAL SERVICE IN MEMORY OF HELEN M. JOHNSON
Saturday, Sept. 25, 2004 1PM. First Presbyterian Church of Ashland. Siskiyou and Walker.

Delbert N. Tobiasson
Born in Orton, Alberta, Canada, on December 23, 1912, to Neils and Eva McMurray Tobiasson, Delbert Neils Tobiasson passed away at his home in Ashland, Oregon on September 15, 2004. He was 91.

His mother died in 1920, and the family moved after to Enterprise, Utah, and then to Logandale, Nevada. On February 14, 1934, he married Dorothy Lamoine Seckinger, "gentle, loving, and of a good courage." He became a US citizen on September 23, 1941.

Delbert and Dorothy owned a dairy farm in Logandale. In 1951, "Tib" moved to Ashland, Oregon, where he became known as "Del," continued farming, was a sawyer in a sawmill, became a greenskeeper at Oak Knoll Golf Course, and worked 18 years for United Grocers before retiring. Over the years, neighbors along the Wells-Walker True Ditch watched him look after his farm, yard, and garden.

Del is known for his sense of humor, music, and love of fishing. One of his goals was to share a joke, one-liner, or anecdote to lighten people's burdens. He continued to pick the mandolin, sing, and yodel through this 92nd year. He treasured fishing trips to Lake Mead, Hyatt Lake, Howard Prairie, and Emmigrant Lake.

Del's wife, Dorothy, daughter Rowena Verlee, and son Robert Dwayne passed away earlier, as did three brothers and four sisters: Cecil (Hester "Dixie") of Las Vegas, NV; Gladys (Karl) Marshall of Logandale, NV; Dorithy (Woodruff) Holt of St. George, UT; Illeen (Hugh) Tenney, Donald, Richard, and Ruth of Redding, CA.

Surviving children: Delbert Corwin (Ella) Tobiasson of Turner, OR; Loya June (Ramon) Elbert of White City, OR; Loran Jack (Karolyn) Tobiasson of Payson, UT; Lorna Kay (David) Carter of Yreka, CA; Evan Stanley (Linda) Tobiasson of Phoenix, OR; Joseph Neils (Marilyn) Tobiasson of Ashland, OR, 29 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Surviving brothers: Heber of Las Vegas, NV; Eldon (Marilynn) of Terrebonne, OR; Wendell (Kathy) of Lehi, UT; Bert (Barbara) of Orevada, Nevada; Reynold (Donna) and Bill of Redding, CA. Surviving sisters: Norma (Earl) Allen of Alpine, UT and Mary Lou (Clyde) Forrest of Albany, OR.

The family especially thanks the Providence Hospice staff for their love, care, and kindness, Dr. Hites for attentive and sustained medical watchfulness, marvelous LDS ward members for their loving friendship and acts of service, and friends and neighbors, who also served in love.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. today, Tuesday, September 21, 2004 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (111 Clay Street) in Ashland. Friends and family are invited to visit there from 10 until 10:50 a.m. that morning.

A graveside service will be held at the Logandale Cemetery in Logandale, NV, on Saturday, September 25, at 2:30 p.m.

Fern G. Rost
Fern G. Rost, longtime resident of Ashland, Oregon, died Sunday (September 19th, 2004) in Indianapolis, Indiana.

She was born in Rippey, Iowa on August 16, 1900 to Wm S. and Cora Garren, and married to Cornelius Rost, who preceded her in death.

She was a Lifetime Member of VFW, Grace Lutheran Church, the Rebecca lodge and the Oregon Grange.

She is survived by her son Robert Rost of Indianapolis, IN; sister Gertrude Gosha, Phoenix, Oregon; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren.

Memorial Services will be Friday, September 24, 2004 at 1:30 p.m., at Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home in Ashland. Private inurnment will be in Mountain View Cemetery.

Dorothy Jane Galante
A memorial sevice for Dorothy Jane Galante will be at 12:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 19, 2004, at the Eagle Point Assembly of God Church. Private inurnment will be Eagle Point National Cemetery.

Mrs. Galante, 85, of Medford (formerly of Ashland) died Sept. 4, 2004 at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to: the Oregon Kidney Association, P.O. Box 222, Portland, OR.

She was born on Oct. 4, 1918 in Morehouse, MO to Edward and Ella (Harp) Mocabee. She moved to the Rogue Valley 25 years ago from Tigard, OR.

Mrs. Galante was a homemaker.

She enjoyed oil painting, cooking bowling, and watching the San Francisco 49'era and the Portland Trail Blazers.

Survivors include her dauaghter, Kate Galante of Costa Rica; her son, Wayne Galante of Hawaii; her brother and sister-in-law Daniel and Goldie Mocabee of North Bend, OR; and her brother, Robert Mocabee of Sparks, NV.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Funeral Directors, Medford.

Vona Lee Nyjordet
The gravesite service for Vona Lee Nyjordet will be at 12:30 p.m. Thurs., Sept. 16, at Jacksonville Cemetary. Lama Pema Clark will officiate.

Ms. Nyjordet, 55, died Sept. 9, at her home.

Memorial contributions may be made to, the KSC Buddist Meditation Ctr, 147 Granite St., Ashland, OR, or a charity of your choice.

She was born on Dec. 4, 1949 in Ashland, OR, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Addy. She lived in the Rogue Valley since May 1997.

Ms. Nyjordet worked at Medford Disability Office as a Case Manager.

She enjoyed the outdoors, golfing, fishing, camping, music, reading and writing.

Survivors include her former husband, Barry Nyjordet of Pensacola, FL; her mother, Connie Mortenson of Chico, CA; one son, Philip Nyjordet of AR; two sisters, Val McClung of Fortuna, CA, Vicki Bullene of Atlanta, GA; a brother, Rick Addy of Fortuna, CA. She was preceded in death by her father Walter Addy, and brother Mickey Addy.

A gathering immediately following the service will be at the Bella Union, 170 W. Calif, St., Jacksonville.

Arrangements: Conger-Morris Central Point Chapel.

Eugene 'Gene' E. Chase
Eugene "Gene" E. Chase passed away at Stanford University Medical Center, Stanford, CA, on Thursday, September 2, 2004, from complications following heart transplant surgery. He was 69.

He is survived by Jean, his loving wife of 28 years; daughter, Kimberly O'Mahoney of Dover NH; sons, Eugene "Geno" A. Chase of San Diego, CA; Derek E., Chase and Christian Jl. Chase, of Novato, CA; six grandchildren and four sisters. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Gene was born December 26, 1934 in Randolph, Vermont to Mary (Downing) and Raymond E. Chase, the oldest of seven children. He was raised on the family farm until graduation from high school.

He served 3 years in the U. S. Army during the Korean conflict as a member of the Army Corps of Engineers attaining the rank of Sergeant with final service at the Presidio in San Francisco. Upon discharge in 1955, he began a 37-year career in the printing industry in San Francisco while attending night school at San Francisco State University.

He worked for Schmidt Lithograph for 8 years, Pacific Lithograph for 26 years where, as one of its first employees, he helped the company grow from a tiny printer to the largest commercial printing company in Northern California, retiring from there in 1989 as Executive Vice President. He worked 3 more years at Advanced Lithograph before moving to Southern Oregon in 1993. There, he and his wife, Jean, owned and operated two used bookstores, Jacksonville Books, in Jacksonville, OR, and later, Shakespeare & Company Books in Ashland, OR for a total of 9 years. He last resided in Medford, OR.

A private memorial gathering will be held in California and interment is planned for the spring of 2005 at the Vermont Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Randolph Center, VT that is adjacent to the old family farm now held in the National Land Trust.

Contributions in Gene's memory may be made to the American Heart Association, Southern Oregon at 10 Crater Lake Ave., Medford OR 97504.
