Oscar O. Hood

Feb. 10, 1922 - June 1, 2011

Vale - Oscar O. Hood, 89, Vale, passed away Wednesday, June 1, 2011, in Vale.

Vigil services will be held Sunday, June 5, 2011, at 6 p.m. St. Patrick Catholic Church, Vale.

Funeral mass will be held Monday, June 6, 2011, at 10 a.m., at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Interment will be at Valley View Cemetery.

Services are under the direction of Lienkaemper Chapel, Vale.

Edward Gill

July 17, 1948 - May 30, 2011

John Day, ORE. - Surrounded by friends and family, Edward Gill, aged 62, passed away Monday, May 30, 2011, at the Veterans Hospital in Boise, Idaho, after a short illness.

He is survived by his wife, Diane; and four children, David Gill, John Day, Ore., Doug Gill, Reno, Nev., Teresa Ingebritsen and Dennis Gill, Ontario, Ore. He is also survived by his five brothers and one sister, Paul Gill, Ontario, Ore., George Gill, Huntington, Ore., Jerry Gill, Mt. Vernon, Ore., Elmer Gill, Prairie City, Ore., and Robert Gill and Patricia Gill-Weigel, Norman, Okla.

He is also blessed with 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Orben Clifford and Julie Bell Gill; and by two brothers, Wayne and John.

After returning from Army service for the Vietnam War, Edward spent most his life working in the mountains of central Oregon as a logger and heavy equipment operator.

Before his retirement in 2010, he worked for a couple years in the meat department at Chester’s Thriftway in John Day, Ore.

All who knew him enjoyed his friendship, kindness, and loyalty.

He was always willing to help anyone in need.

He loved his wife and family, and he was happiest in the mountains fishing, hunting, and camping.

There will be a memorial service, followed by a barbecue to celebrate his life, Saturday, June 18, 2011, at Clyde Holliday State Park near Mt. Vernon, Ore. at 2 p.m.

For inclement weather, the services will be held at the Mt. Vernon Grange.

All friends and family are invited.

The family would like to thank the staff, nurses, and doctors of the Boise, Idaho, Veterans Hospital for the outstanding care that Edward received.

Arrangements are under the direction of Boise Funeral Home Aclesa Chapel, Boise.

Ray D. Tuttle

Dec. 4, 1916 - June 19, 2011

Ontario - Ray D. Tuttle, 94, Ontario, passed away Father’s Day Sunday, June 19, 2011, at his home.

Ray was born Dec. 4, 1916, in Cambria, Iowa, to Hallard G. and Ethelyn Tuttle.

At a young age his family moved to Alliance, Neb., where he grew up learning to plant, plow and harvest with a team of horses. He always had an affinity for horses and mules but was happy when they acquired tractors. For then he could take the tractors apart and put them back together.

He came to Ontario, Ore. in 1936, to find employment and settled here. He returned to Nebraska and married Evalyn M. Osborn July 4, 1937, in Hemingford, Neb.

Immediately following the wedding they returned to Ontario where he began his long working career as a farmer. He soon began hauling produce to the Willamette Valley and would return with lumber or other commodities he could “peddle.”

In 1944, he started Tuttle Lumber Co. along with his dad and brother Lyle. In 1948, with Carl Hammar they formed a partnership and began Superior Block Co.

Through all of his years trucks were always a part of his life which led to Tuttle Livestock Hauling and eventually Ontario Diesel Service.

Ray was always a generous and sharing man who helped many people less fortunate than himself. This could not have been more evident when he and Evalyn adopted her three nephews and raised them as their own.

Ray was preceded in passing by his parents; brother, Lyle Tuttle; and his wife, Evalyn Tuttle.

He is survived by his sons, all of Ontario, Dr. Kenneth Osborn, Bruce (Kris), and Larry (Vicky). Special nephews, Don Osborn (Barbara), Bandon, Ore., and Dean Osborn (Judy) Folsom, Calif. His grandchildren, Brian Osborn, Elisa Rodriguez (George Jr.), Kyle Osborn (Niki), Michael Tuttle, Patrick Tuttle, Eric Tuttle (Cynthia), Raymond Tuttle, Greg Tuttle, Christina Tuttle and Richard Tuttle (Alyssa). A nephew, Lon Tuttle, Boise; and cousin, Gail Tuttle (Hester) Homedale. Thirteen great-grandchildren; and special friend Barbara Briggs, Ontario.

Graveside services will be held at Sunset Cemetery, Ontario at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 22, 2011, under the direction of the Lienkaemper Chapel, Ontario.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in c/o Lienkaemper Chapel, Ontario.

James Raymond ‘Jimmy’ Olson

Sept. 28, 1967 - May 30, 2011

La Grande, ORE. - James Raymond “Jimmy” Olson, 43, La Grande, Ore., lost his year-long battle with cancer.

He passed away Monday, May 30, 2011, at his residence, with his family by his side.

His funeral service will be held Saturday, June 4, at 11 a.m., at the Church of the Nazarene

Interment will be at the Grandview Cemetery. Loveland Funeral Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Jimmy was born in Portland, Ore. Sept. 28, 1967, and graciously given to Gerald and Elizabeth Olson; and his sister, MaryBeth. Jimmy lived in Eugene until moving with his family to Ontario, Oregon in the spring of 1975. He completed school in Ontario, graduating from Ontario High School in 1985.

After high school, he had adventures in Arizona and California, and eventually returned to Ontario.

He attended Treasure Valley Community College before earning his bachelor’s degree in History from the University of Oregon in 1992.

Shortly after his graduation, Jimmy met the love of his life, Michelle Hall.

They were blessed with a beautiful baby girl, Angelie, in 2002.

Jimmy was a devoted father and husband.

He loved camping, music, the occasional ‘conversation’ about politics, and watching over his little girl.

Jimmy leaves behind his wife, Michelle, daughter, Angelie; son, Clint White; mother, Elizabeth Olson; sister, MaryBeth (Bret) Bennett; nephew and nieces, Shane, Caylee, and KaDee Bennett; aunts and uncles, Anne (Tom) Mottl, Nancy (Robert) Shinn, Ted (Paula) Hewitt, Darlene (Loren) Lang, and Tim (Judy) Olson; special friends of a life time, Tim Iseri, Bob Handley, Jeff Wiseman, and numerous cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his beloved father, Gerald Olson.

In lieu of flowers, Jimmy requested contributions be made to Grande Ronde Academy, for all that they have done to prepare Angelie and others for a God-filled life of learning.

Brentan Siddoway Uyeki

March 17, 1988-May 1, 2011

Ontario - Brentan Siddoway Uyeki was born March 17, 1988, to Cheri Siddoway in Brogan, Ore., joining a large extended Siddoway family. She spent her early years living in Boise, Idaho, returning to live in Vale, Ore., in the first grade. She attended schools in Vale and graduated in 2005 from Stillwater Academy in South Jordan, Utah.

Brentan recently completed her Associated Degree at Treasure Valley Community College and had been accepted to the TVCC nursing program for Fall 2011. Brentan loved medicine, science and working with special needs children. She enjoyed helping patients on her job as a Certified Nurses Assistant at St. Alphonsus Medical Center in Ontario, Ore.

Brentan loved playing volleyball, the beach, white water rafting, floating the river, making her family laugh, and hanging out with friends. Brentan was a strong-willed woman that was known and loved by many for her bright smile and spunky, out-going personality. She was a stranger to no one and made friends wherever she went.

Brentan passed away May 1, 2011, at a local hospital. Her sharp mind, independent spirit and bright smile live on in her daughter, the love of her life.

Brentan is survived by her daughter, Ashlyn Rae Uyeki; Ashlyn’s father, Andrew Uyeki; parents Cheri Siddoway and Lung Hung and Rob Fortin; brother, Dean Fortin; grandparents, Craig and Lorene Siddoway and Ken and Connie Fortin; great-grandmothers, Merle Watkins and Margaret Drake; uncles, Leland, Bert, Monty, Trent and Lance Siddoway and Jason, Greg and Jeff Fortin; aunts, Jeanne Williams, Mindy VanVleck, Joy and Annie Siddoway and many more extended family members and friends.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Vale Elementary School Outside Garden. Light dinner to immediately follow in the school cafeteria.

Robert LeeRoy ‘Bob’ Garland

May 25, 1932 - April 16, 2011

Ontario - Robert LeeRoy “Bob” Garland, 78, Ontario, Ore., passed away Saturday, April 16, 2011, at home.

A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 23, 2011, at the Vale Middle School Gymnasium in Vale, Ore.

Services are under the direction of the Lienkaemper Chapel in Vale.

Bob was born May 25, 1932, in Bassett, Neb., to Vernon and Georgene Jeffryes Garland. He moved with his family to Caldwell when he was two years old where he was raised and educated graduating from Caldwell High School. Bob was an excellent athlete growing up in Caldwell and continued his athletic career at Boise Junior College, where he played football under Coach Lyle Smith. He went on to Eastern Oregon College in LaGrande, Ore., where he received his Bachelor’s degree in Education.

Bob served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and while on leave with one of his buddies from West Virginia, he met his buddies sister, Betty Jo Campbell. A relationship grew and they were married in 1954.

Bob and Betty moved to Vale where he taught in the Vale Elementary and Vale Middle Schools for 15 years. Bob was also the middle school coach for the athletic teams and produced and helped shape many fine athletes for Vale High School teams. Bob retired from teaching and began driving trucks for various companies for the next 23 years.

He was a member of the Ontario Elks Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a younger brother, Danny; and his wife, Betty.

He is survived by his children, Mitzi (Dennis) Holte, Boise, Joe (Lacy) Garland, Portland, and Ed (Beth) Garland, Berkeley, Calif.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and his long time friend, Holly Garrison. He is also survived by two brothers, Jack and Gary Garland.
