Ontario - Graciela Olvera, 63, Ontario, passed away Thursday, April 7, 2011, at home in Ontario. A viewing for family and friends will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Payette. A memorial mass will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, April 15, 2011, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Fruitland. Arrangements are under the direction of Shaffer-Jensen Memory Chapel, Payette.

Darlene Roth

Darlene Roth, 71, Nyssa, died Friday at home. Private family services will be held. Arrangements by Lienkaemper Chapel, Nyssa.

Donald H. Dirksen

June 30, 1939 - March 9, 2011

Salem, Ore. - Don Dirksen passed away in Salem, Ore., March 9, 2011. He was born in Ontario, Ore., June 30, 1939. He grew up on the family farm in Nyssa, Ore., and attended Nyssa High School. He studied agriculture at Oregon State University and served in the Idaho Air National Guard. Don was married to his sweetheart, Agnes Muller for 45 years. He farmed in Nyssa, Ore., 27 years before moving to Salem Ore., in 1986, where he worked for the Oregon Farm Bureau as a regional manager and managed his properties.

He is survived by his wife, Agnes; his daughter, Michelle Dirksen Marston and Bradshaw Fairley, of Wilsonville, Ore; and his son, Paul Dirksen and wife, Nicole, of Vancouver, Wash.; three granddaughters, Kimberly, Kristen, and Jaclyn Marston and two grandsons, Evan and Ryan Dirksen; his sister, Rena Dirksen Irwin, of Olympia, Wash and niece, Danna Blattmann and Mike Hyrekewicz, of Portland, Ore., and numerous cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Joe Dirksen and Grace Van Zelf Dirksen.

Don was a very caring and principled man. His family was the center of his life. All those who knew him, will remember him for his good hearted nature, his genuine kindness and thoughtfulness toward others and his love of laughter.

An open house will be held in his honor Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Battlecreek Commons Club House, 1823 Lexington Circle, Salem OR 97306. A private interment will be held at City View Funeral Home/Cemetery Salem, Ore. Arrangements are under the direction of City View Funeral Home and Cemetery.

Candelario (Candy) Cruz Miranda

June 17, 1949-March 22, 2011

Ontario - Candelario Cruz Miranda, 62, of Ontario, Ore., passed away Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at Owyhee Dam of a heart attack.

Candy was born June 17, 1949, to Fortunato and Bruna Miranda in Lubbock, Texas. His family moved to Ontario in 1953. Candy went to school in Ontario and graduated 1968. Candy loved to fish and hunt. He would never pass up a chance to go. He married late in life to Maria Skinner Dec. 23, 1994. He had two step children, Clara and Tom. Five months later he became a grandpa.He put God first, then family. He never met a stranger, always had a smile on his face.He worked for Ernie’s Electric in Ontario for 17 years until his health made him retire.He had his own upholstery business on the side. He attended Fruitland Highway Assembly until he felt he was called to help the Spanish Assembly. He helped in the Spanish Assembly for five years with Pastor Uribe. He attended there for many years. For the last two years he had attended the Lighthouse Assembly and served as a deacon.

Candy is survived by his wife, Maria, of Ontario, Ore.; daughter, Clara Skinner Watson (Dale), Fruitland; son, Tom Skinner (Marcy), of Fruitland; granddaughter, Haily Briana Skinner, Fruitland; five grandsons, Zach, Forrest, Elijah Skinner, Fruitland and Jay Watson, Fruitland, Stefan Muendnich, Germany; sisters, Lydia, Serna (Perfeeto) Newton, Texas, Sesaria Benavides, Ontario. He had 31 nephews and nieces, 85 great-nephews and great-nieces, 66 great-great-nephews and great-great-nieces. He also had numerous adopted grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Magdalena Solis; two brothers, Pedro Miranda and Filimon Miranda, and one granddaughter, Briana Joy Skinner.

A viewing will be held Monday, March 28 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Haren-Wood Funeral Chapel in Ontario. A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Lighthouse Assembly, 96 S.W. Second St., Ontario. Arrangements are under the direction of Haren-Wood Funeral Chapel.

Susan Kay Russell ‘Susie’

Jan. 7, 1950 - Feb. 15, 2011

Nyssa - “Susie” passed away peacefully Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2011, after a long battle with breast cancer.

Susan was born Jan. 7, 1950, in Alhambra, Calif.

She grew up in Northern California (Humboldt County) where she met and married the love of her life, Douglas John Russell, and raised their three sons Scott, Jody and Douglas.

To know Susan was to adore her. Her kind and loving nature blessed everyone who came across her.

She remained consistently positive throughout her illness and never lost faith.

Susan’s passion was her family and friends. She loved riding her horses and camping with her husband, cooking and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

Susan leaves behind her husband, Douglas John Russell; her children, Scott and Vicki Strong, Jody and Ariana Strong and Douglas and Kristin Russell; and grandchildren, Jayson, Sean, Noah, Tobin, Brent, Devon, Alanna, Tailor and Lilly.

Services for Susan will be held at The Senior Center on Good Ave. in Nyssa, Saturday, Feb. 20 at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Susan G Komen foundation for breast cancer research www.info-komen.org/ under the Susan Kay Russell memorial page.

Arrangements are under the direction of Haren-Wood.

G. Berniece ‘Sally’ Cassingham

Jan. 16, 1918 - Jan. 28, 2011

Ontario - G. Berniece “Sally” Cassingham, Ontario, passed away peacefully at a local care center Friday, Jan. 28, 2011, after a short stay following hip fracture surgery. She was 93.

Graveside services are scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2011, at 2 p.m. at the Riverside Cemetery in Payette.

Sally was the youngest of seven children, born to William H. and Mary Elizabeth Kizer, Jan. 16, 1918, in Summers, Ark.

She married Aurcle Cassingham Jan. 25, 1936, in Wedington, Ark., and that fall, the newlyweds relocated to Payette, Idaho.

Just prior to WWII they moved to California where Aurcle supported the war effort by working in the shipyards.

In 1945, they returned to the Oregon Slope where they farmed for many years.

Sally worked alongside her husband on the farm and devoted her life to her family.

Sally particularly enjoyed her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-granddaughter.

She was also a member of the Boulevard Grange, enjoyed crocheting, sewing and was an avid reader.

She will be especially missed by her great-grand children who always relied on her to play board and card games with them.

Sally was preceded in death by her parents; siblings; and her beloved husband of 56 years, Aurcle.

She is survived by her daughters, Valeria Richmond, Ontario, Ore.; Gayle (Harvey) Bolton, Spokane, Wash. She is also survived by three granddaughters, Coleen Andersen, Colstrip, Montana, Apryl Richmond, Nampa, Idaho, Kathy (John) Milleson, Ontario, Ore.; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

Melanie Grace Wilks

Jan. 22, 1954 - Jan. 23, 2011

Ontario - Melanie Grace Wilks passed away Jan. 23, 2011.

She was born Jan. 22, 1954, to Evelyn Rusk Wilks and father Jack Wilks who were so happy to have a beautiful girl. Melaine was known in her pre-school days as one of the sweetest and kindest little girls we had ever seen. Her school days were in Fruitland, Idaho, and Ontario, Ore. She also went to Barber College in Boise, Idaho. And had other interesting jobs including working for movie actress Aquanetta in Arizona. She is dearly missed by her mother, brother, uncles, aunts and many cousins and friends. Melanie loved people, music, animals, especially cats, and the ocean. We are receiving many stories of people’s lives she touched. Even to the last days of her life. Her and her kind deeds will never be forgotten.

Arrangements are under the direction Haren-Wood Chapel, Ontario.

Marjorie Harris Burton ‘Sue’

Feb. 13, 1912 - Dec. 6, 2010

Ontario - Marjorie “Sue” Harris Burton, 98, a longtime Ontario Ore. resident died Monday of natural causes at the home of one of her sons in Nampa Idaho.

Marjorie was born Feb. 13, 1912, in Nephi, Utah, to Henry and Edna Harris. She was the oldest of five children. She grew up in Ogden, Utah and married Earl (Slim) Burton Sept. 11, 1936, in the Salt Lake City L.D.S. Temple. They moved to Ontario, Ore., where they raised their three sons.

Marjorie was a devoted wife and loving mother. She was a lifelong member of the Ontario L.D.S. church where she served in many capacities. She had an incredible capacity to show love and kindness to everyone. Her smile was radiant and captured the hearts around her. She had a sweet disposition that made so many people feel loved and accepted. She was very much loved and will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her sons, Mike (and Elva) Burton Ontario, Robert (and Karla) Burton Nampa, Jim Burton Meridian; and her sister, Donna Hyer Riverdale Utah; and six grandchildren, Charles, Sarah, Ira, Anthony, Marissa, Natasha; and six great- grandchildren, Bailey, Isabella, Gable, Joe, Liam, and Claudia; and two nieces, Patsy and Nancy.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Earl M. Burton; her bother, Bud Harris; her sisters, Lucille Coleman and Georgia Raliegh.

Funeral Services will be held Monday at 1 p.m. with visitation prior at noon at the Ontario LDS Church 661 S.W. 12th St. Interment will follow at the Ontario Evergreen Cemetery.

Services are under the direction of the Lienkaemper Chapel, Ontario.

In lieu of flowers, the family request spending time with loved ones.

Rolando H. Lopez

March 23, 1937 - Nov. 16, 2010

Nyssa - Rolando H. Lopez,73, Nyssa,died Tuesday at a local hospital.

Rosary will be held at 6 p.m. Monday at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church, Nyssa. Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday also at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Hilltop Memorial Cemetery, Nyssa.

Arrangements are under the direction of Lienkaemper Chapel.
