Richard Paul Kemp
KEMP, Richard Paul — Age 87, of Roseburg, Oregon, passed away on October 21, 2004. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 28, 2004, at 2 p.m., at WILSON’S CHAPEL OF THE ROSES.

Lorraine D. Thornberg
THORNBERG, Lorraine D. — Age 82, of Roseburg, Oregon, went to be with the Lord on October 23, 2004. Lorraine was born to William and Byrdie Doffermyre on October 3, 1922, in Washington D.C. She completed her schooling there and was employed by the Department of the Navy during WW II, traveling and working around the United States. In 1949, she married Raymond Thornberg in Iowa. They began raising their three children in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and in 1955, they moved to Buena Park, California. Lorraine worked as a secretary for the 1st Congregational Church for many years and then as a secretary for Planned Parenthood. In 1983, they retired and relocated to Myrtle Creek, Oregon, to be near their grandchildren. There was nothing she took more pride in than her role as a loving grandmother. Lorraine made friends easily with her warm heart, friendly smile, and sense of humor. She was a loyal friend. Lorraine kept friendships from her childhood days, and never stopped making new friends. She also enjoyed expanding her knowledge by reading, crossword puzzles, and other challenges. Lorraine was also an advocate for consumers' rights. She never hesitated to put her secretarial skills to work, writing letters to corporate offices when their products weren't up to standards, and almost always received a rewarding response. After she retired, she used these skills as a volunteer with the Casa Program and with the Long-Term Care Ombudsman. After becoming wheelchair bound and moving into Mercy Care Center, she became the Secretary for the Residents' Council there. She also used the Library area to teach adults from around Douglas County to read through the Project Literacy- Umpqua Region. Each Friday she volunteered at the Umpqua Disability Network office. Even from a wheelchair, she helped others make a stand! Lorriane was preceded in death by her parents, William and Byrdie Doffermyre; sister, Louise Goubeau; brother, Wayland Doffermyre; and her husband, Raymond Thornberg. She is survived by her daughter, Ruth and her husband, Gregg Dewater; son Craig and his wife, Ruth Thornberg; and her step-daughter, Bonnie Dulebohn. She had eight grandchildren whom she dearly loved, Heidi, Erik, Kyle, and Amanda Larson; Kevin and Stacy Thornberg; Paul and Phillip Dulebohn; four great- grandchildren, Taylor, Whitney and Kellan Larson; and Haley Dulebohn. A memorial service will be held in the Chapel at Umpqua Valley Nursing & Rehabilitation Center on Friday, October 29, 2004, at 3 p.m. LONG & SHUKLE assisted the family.

Metze Schubert
SCHUBERT, Metze — Age 77, of Sutherlin, Oregon, passed away on Friday, October 22, 2004, in a local care center. She was born on September 19, 1927, in Amarillo, Texas. In January 1946, in Roseburg, Oregon, she married Richard W. Reynolds who preceded her in death in 1972. In April 1975, in Reno, Nevada, she married Glenn R. Schubert and he preceded her in death in 1995. Metze enjoyed flower gardening, especially her roses. She lived in the Roseburg area all of her life. Survivors include one son, Chuck Reynolds and his wife, Maggy of Sutherlin; one granddaughter, Emily Lynn Reynolds of Sutherlin; four stepsons, Robert Schubert and his wife, Molly of Bend, Oregon; Paul Schubert and his wife, Joy of Fargo, North Dakota; Phillip Schubert of Lake Walles, Florida; and Ben Garrison of Washington. Services will be held on Friday, October 29, 2004, at 2 p.m., in the Roseburg National Cemetery. Long and Shukle Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Bee David Roberson
ROBERSON, Bee David — Age 68, of Winston, Oregon, passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2004. He was born on April 26, 1936, in Carthage, Tennessee, the son of Grady Franklin and Grace (Shoemake) Roberson. He lived in Mississippi and Tennessee before he moved with his family as a teenager to Oregon, settling in Coquille, Oregon. Bee was united in marriage to Ginny Matthews on December 26, 1958. He entered the U.S. Army and served our country for twenty years, retiring in September 1980. He was a Vietnam Veteran but had also served in Germany and the States. He and Ginny moved to Winston and Bee went to work in security for Umpqua Community College in Roseburg, Oregon. It was a position he very much enjoyed. He retired in April of 2003 after 17 years. Bee enjoyed fishing and was an avid Atlanta Braves and Dallas Cowboys fan. He also loved to collect anything and everything that involved eagles. He is survived by his wife of over 45 years, Ginny of Winston; a son, Charles D. Roberson of Winston; his mother, Grace Roberson of Mt. Vernon, Washington; sisters and brothers, Patricia Ann Slater and her husband, David of Arlington, Washington; Nancy Fay Gentry and her husband, Kendall of Mt. Vernon; Billy Roberson and his wife, Denise of Arlington; and Timothy Roberson and his wife, Elise of Big Lake, Washington; granddaughter, Megan Roberson of Winston; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Grady Roberson, who passed away in 1997. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 29, 2004 at 2 p.m. at Taylor’s Family Chapel. Interment will follow at Roseburg Memorial Gardens. Officiating will be Pastor Joe Sizemore with military rites by the VFW District Twelve Honor Guard. Friends may pay their respects on Thursday evening, October 28, 2004, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at TAYLORS FAMILY CHAPEL in Winston.

Dolly Marie Nelson
NELSON, Dolly Marie — Age 105, of Sutherlin, Oregon, passed away on Monday, October 25, 2004, in a local foster home. She was born on November 6, 1898, in Shelbina, Missouri, to Charles and Sarah (Todd) Ratliff. On August 1, 1924, in Salina, Kansas, she married Earl Nelson. The Nelson's moved from Lodi, California, to the Roseburg-Sutherlin, Oregon, area in 1990. Mrs. Nelson was an 85 year member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Jan Nelson of Elkton, Oregon; three grandsons, Darrell Nelson; Gary Nelson; and Shawn Nelson; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Nelson was preceded in death by her husband, Earl Nelson on December 18, 1991; son, Gene Nelson on August 31, 1999; parents, Charles and Sarah Ratliff; and two sisters. Graveside services will be held on Friday, October 29, 2004, at 3 p.m. within the grounds of Valley View Cemetery in Sutherlin, Oregon. Pastor Loren Fenton of the Canyonville, Oregon, Seventh-day Adventist Church will officiate. Chapel of the FIrs is in charge of arrangements.

Kenny Huckins
HUCKINS, Kenneth Lloyd — Age 50, of Sutherlin, Oregon, passed away on Sunday, October 24, 2004. He was born on March 16, 1954, in Eureka, California, son of Lloyd Francis and Myrtle Eunice (Kreftmeyer) Huckins. He moved with his family at an early age to Oregon, settling in the Oakland area, where he was raised and educated. He attended both Oakland High School and Douglas High School in Winston, Oregon. Ken worked as a logger but was an accomplished carpenter. He was also a mechanic and enjoyed working on old cars. He is survived by three sisters, Lee Jorgensen and her husband, Andy, of Oakland; Chris Sanders and her husband, Jerold of Oakland; and Kathy Cole and her husband, James of Dillard, Oregon; brother, Steve Huckins of Portland, Oregon; his nieces and nephews include, Melissa Thomas and her husband, Eric and their children, Jalana and Veronica of Oakland; Jeff Albright of Portland; Becky Bright and her children, Jarrod and Maddie of Sutherlin; Tim Albright of Corvallis, Oregon; Heather Horvath and her husband, Ben and their daughter, Hannah of Sutherlin; Jessi Jorgensen of Oakland; Tyler Cole of Dillard; Mike Jorgensen of Rocklin, California; Jonathon Huckins of Redding, California; Krystal Huckins of Magalia, California; long-time friend, John Barron of Sutherlin. He was preceded in death by his mother, Myrtle Huckins in 1964; a sister, Eunice Albright in 1999; his father, Lloyd Huckins in 2000. Memorial services will be held on Friday, October 29, 2004 at 1 p.m. at the Oakland Church Of Christ located at 1400 NE Oak Street in Oakland, ph 459-4447. Officiating will be Pastor James Simmons. James Hardie
June 21, 1933 to October 19, 2004
Jim, or “J.R.”, as he liked to be called, went to be with the Lord after a battle with cancer. He passed away in the comfort of his home surround by his family.
Jim joined the U.S. Air Force at age 17 and is a veteran of the Korean War. He and his wife spent the last 30 years living in Roseburg, Oregon. He worked as a salesman for Sears, Montgomery Wards, and spent the last 7 years working as a checker at Fred Meyer. He loved working with people and will be remembered for his friendly smile.
Jim is survived by his wife, Kathy of 38 years; three daughters, Debbie Allert and her husband, Herb; Laurel Southwick; Patti Davila and her husband, Omar. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Felicia; Chelsey; Shaun; Shanelle; Jarod; Brice; Jessie; Seth; Amber; one great-granddaughter, Hailey Jones. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, sister, and grandson, Matthew Jones.
There will be a memorial service on Monday, October 25, 2004, at 6 p.m. at Vine Street Baptist Church. His family invites anyone who knew Jim to come share their memories. Memorial contributions may be made in Jim’s name to the American Cancer Society or Mercy Hospice.

Lawrence Anthony Collins Jr.
Collins, Lawrence Anthony, Jr. — Age 85, of Roseburg, Oregon, passed away on October 21, 2004, after a lengthy illness. He was born on December 18, 1918, in Denver, Colorado, to Lawrence Anthony, Sr. and Eloise (Unkrey) Collins. He was the second child in a family of three. He grew up in Denver, attending local parochial grade school and Regis High School and College. After graduation, he worked as a grocery clerk in a small store in downtown Denver where he met the love of his life, Virginia. They were married in Omaha, Nebraska, on May 5, 1940. They lived for a time in Denver and then moved to San Diego, California, at the start of World War II. He worked for Convair as an engineer during the war. After moving several times, they settled in Fontana, California. He retired after 30 years with General Dynamics in Pomona, California and they moved to Idleyld Park, Oregon, in 1966 where he could live out his dream of owning a mountain, building a cabin and hiking in the woods that he so loved. While living in Idleyld Park, he owned and operated two American Oil gas stations, one in Sutherlin, Oregon, and the other in Roseburg. He and Virginia then moved to Hawaii in 1985 and spent 10 years exploring the islands. They moved back to Roseburg in 1995 where they have since resided. He had many interests and hobbies, his favorites being coin and stamp collecting, rock hounding and the study of volcanoes. He spent many hours watching the eruption of Kilauea volcano on the big island of Hawaii. He loved striking up a conversation with a stranger and he was fond of traveling. He and Virginia visited Europe several times and had an adventurous trip to Costa Rica in 1978. He was a member of the Leilani Estates Senior group of Keaau, Hawaii. He was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church. He had a great sense of humor and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his son, Lawrence III and his wife, Barbara of Tucson, Arizona; daughter, Patricia Boyd and her husband, Patrick of Glide; AFS daughter, Regine Grave and her husband, Dieter of Remagen, Germany; brother, John and his wife, Jodie of Riverside, California; sister, Annette of San Diego, California. He also leaves behind grandsons, Branden Boyd of San Francisco, California; Benjamin Boyd and his wife, Miranda of Scappoose, Oregon; Ryan Boyd of Portland; Lawrence IV and his wife, Denise of Redlands, California; granddaughters, Victoria Albers and her husband, Gene of Chino, California; Beth Valentine and her husband, Ric of Hisperia, California; Peter, Mathias, Christina, Elisa and Paulina Grave of Remagen, Germany. his great-grandchildren include, Bethani and Chelsea Albers; Lawrence V. and Tim Collins; Jolene Edwards; Justin Collins; Roman and Zoey Valentine. He also leaves behind brothers-in-law, Neil King and his wife, Jeanne of Boardman, Oregon; Robert King and his wife, Joy of Denver; and numerous nieces and nephews. His parents and his wife, Virginia, preceded him in death. There will be a viewing for family and friends at Wilson's Chapel of the Roses on Tuesday, October 21, 2004, from 9 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Funeral mass will follow at 12:10 p.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Father Elwin Schwab will be officiating. Graveside services will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. Reception to follow at St. Joseph Catholic Parrish Center. George Melvin Savage
Savage, George Melvin — Age 89, of Roseburg, Oregon, passed away on October 21, 2004. He was born on April 19, 1915, in Oxbow, Sask., Canada, to George Savage and Sarah Melvin. He married Mary Quallo on July 4, 1942, in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. George served in the Royal Canadian Army during World War II, 1942 to 1946. When he arrived home he and Mary moved to Oxbow, where he worked on the railroad. In 1954, he and Mary and their two daughters, Alice and Marie, moved to Oregon and in 1957 moved to Roseburg, where he went to work for Roseburg Lumber, and retired in 1981. In 1962, he became a citizen of the U.S. He lived on Jackson Street for 45 years where you could always find him in his garden. In June of 2002 with ailing health George moved to Adams House and then to Marquis Care of Springfield where he passed away. George was preceded in death by Mary in 1959; a granddaughter, Melissa; his sister, Iva. He is survived by his two daughters, Marie and her husband, Ken Pohl of San Antonio, Texas; Alice and her husband, Lee Gardner of Ojai, California; four grandchildren, Angela Hamby and her husband, Doug and Amanda Lane and her husband, Kevin, all of Oregon; Robert and Joshua Pohl of San Antonio, Texas; four great-grandchildren, Ryann and Brittain Hamby and Eddie and Erik Lane; brother, Lorne Savage and his wife, Edith of Calgary, Alberta, Canada; numerous nieces and nephews in Oregon and Canada. Services will be held on Tuesday, October 26, 2004 at 10 a.m. Graveside committal will follow within the grounds of Roseburg Memorial Gardens. Lova Belle Buchanan Young
YOUNG, Lova Belle Buchanan — Passed away on October 20, 2004, in Roseburg, Oregon. She was born on September 14, 1908, in Pleasanton, Kansas, the fourth of five children of Dr. William E. Buchanan, a dentist, and Rose Kee Buchanan. The family moved to Oregon in 1910 and settled in the Ashland area. Lova attended elementary school in Ashland and University High School in Eugene, Oregon, where the family moved in 1922. She graduated from the University of Oregon in 1930, having majored in English , Education and Music. First a pianist and then an organist, Lova played the pipe organ at the First Christian Church in Eugene while a student at the University. She was a member of Phi Beta, music and drama honorary and Phi Mu sorority. From 1930 to 1936, Lova taught English and music at Roseburg High School as well as serving as its librarian. On January 8, 1937, Lova married Bernard A. Young of Roseburg who had just been elected to the Oregon House of Representatives. Following periods of residence in Salem, Oregon, Portland, Oregon, San Francisco, California and Honolulu, Hawaii, the Young's returned to Roseburg in early 1942. Lova was a charter member of Roseburg Chapter CU of the PTA, was a volunteer at Douglas Community Hospital, and was a member of the First Methodist Church. Lova was predeceased by her husband, Bernard A. Young; her parents; sisters, Kee Buchanan Groves and Kate Buchanan; her brother, film and television character actor, Edgar Buchanan. Lova is survived by her son, Bernard A. Young Jr. and his wife, Gloria Young of Medford, Oregon; her daughter, Brooke Constable and her husband, Henry L. Constable of Portland; grandchildren, April and her husband, Jim Woods of Renton, Washington; Meredith and her husband, Andrew Hawkins of St. Helens, Oregon; Ryan Young and his wife, Susie Bowie, MD; Cody Constable of New York, New York; great-grandchildren, Jacob and Kristin Hawkins. She also leaves her sister, Gayle Buchanan Karshner and her husband, Stanley Roscoe of McKinleyville, California; nephews, Gary Karshner of San Antonio, Texas; Warner Karshner of Gig Harbor, Washington; William E. Buchanan III of Blue Lake, California. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial tributes be sent to the Douglas County Museum of History, P.O. Kemp, Richard
KEMP, Richard — Age 87, of Roseburg, Oregon, passed away on October 21, 2004, at his home. Richard was born on March 16, 1917, in South Bend, Indiana, to Henry and Helen (Cook) Kemp. After graduating from high school, Richard went to three years of college and joined the Merchant Marines. He later became an employee of Westinghouse and Voice of America. Richard's main interest was that of being a ham operator, of which he started at the age of 15. He could send the Morse Code faster than anyone. It wasn't surprising that he was very involved in the Pine Ridge Radio Ham Club. He traveled to England and various places in the United States. Richard is survived by his wife, Gloria; children, Ruth Schwarz and her husband, Brad; Joann Ahrens and her husband, Philip; Helen Boyd and her husband, Mel; Richard Kemp Jr.; Jim Kemp and his wife, Carol; Debra Boling and her husband, Darrell; step-sons, Michael "Mickey" Beach and his wife, Kelly; Mark Beach; 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Henry "Nicholas" and Helen (Cook) Kemp; his brothers, Carroll and Robert Kemp. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, October 28, 2004, at 2 p.m. at Wilson's Chapel of the Roses with Rev. John Stenbeck officiating. Janis Belcher
BELCHER, Janis — Age 48, of Roseburg, Oregon, passed away on Saturday, October 23, 2004. Janis was born on February 5, 1956, to Frank and Elinore (Nelson) Brown. After graduating high school, Janis went on to college and earned a degree in Business Administration and went to work for the Veterans Administration as a librarian. Janis married Jimmy Belcher in 1978 and they had two girls, Stephanie and Danielle. Jimmy passed away in 1984. Janis later met a very special friend, Terry Christiansen, who became a step-dad to her girls. Janis and Terry have been together for 20 wonderful years. Janis's life had been her family and grandchildren. She enjoyed camping and getting away, but always with family and friends. She was a heart warming person who enjoyed helping anyone. Janis was also preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Elinore. Janis leaves to mourn her very special friend, Terry Christiansen; two daughters, Stephanie Belcher and Danielle Ciballos; brother, Richard Brown and his wife, Shelly of Medical Lake, Washington; sisters, Linda Bettine and her husband, Cliff of Coos Bay, Oregon; and Joan Johnson and her husband, Tarry of Cincinnati, Ohio; and five grandsons. Memorial services will be held at Wilson's Chapel of the Roses on Friday, October 29, 2004, at 10:30 a.m., with Chaplain Michael Gilespie officiating. James ‘Jim’ Raymond Cassidy
CASSIDY, James “Jim” Raymond — Age 65, of Roseburg, Oregon, passed away on October 24, 2004, in a local hospital. He was born on July 19, 1939, in Drummond, Wisconsin, to Raymond Ellis and Hazel Phylis (Bushaw) Cassidy. Jim served in the United States Army from 1958-1960, and was stationed in Okinawa. On October 12, 1991, in Reno, Nevada, Jim married Barbara. They have lived in the Roseburg area for six years. Jim was a very quiet and private person, being with his family was his greatest joy. Jim enjoyed reading and getting settled into their new home. He was known as "Poppy" to his loving grandchildren and family. He is survived by his wife, Barbara of Roseburg; his children; Valerie McEwen and her husband, Frank of Sacramento, California; Linda Brown and her husband, Floyd of Grants Pass, Oregon; Janet Bishop and her husband, Matt Dziewiontkoski of Gresham, Oregon; Julie Licos and her husband, Ted of Glendale, Oregon; Mark Bishop and his wife, Michele, of Medford, Oregon; his mother, Hazel; sister, Patricia Roth and her husband, John of Monroe, Washington; grandchildren, Darek; Erica; Brian; Jacalyn; Courtney; Andrea; Kelli; Nathan; Heather; Michael; Bradley; Jessica; Daniel; Chelsea; Piper; and Haven; and numerous nieces and nephews. Jim was preceded in death by his father in 1998, and a son, Brendan in 1979. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jim's memory to the charity of your choice. Private cremation rites have been held. Karrell Anne Curtis
CURTIS, Karrell Anne — Age 69, passed away on November 2, 2004, in a local hospital after several weeks of illness. She was born to John and Ida Smith in Oklahoma in 1935, and was the only girl in a family of three sons. The family moved to Texas and then to California in 1940, settling in Long Beach. She graduated from the Long Beach David Starr Jordan High School in 1953. She worked for the phone company and then for the Seal Beach Police Department. She was one of the first female deputies in California to be assigned to patrol duties. She married Thomas Curtis, who was also a Seal Beach police officer. Her husband of three years died in 1974 as a result of a heart attack after a high speed chase. She moved to Oregon on 1976 with the remainder of her family, which included her mother, her brother and his family. They bought one of the Dunn ranches and ran sheep for a number of years. She continued to live on the property until the present time. She worked for the Winston Police Department as a dispatcher. She became the training officer for the Records Department of the Douglas County Sheriff's Department in 1981, and later as a dispatcher. She retired from the Douglas County Sheriff's Department in 1988. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas; brothers, Bob and Larry; and her father and mother. She is survived by her brother, Kim Smith of Canyonville, Oregon; her sister-in-law, Phyllis Smith; nephew, Scott Smith (Kristin) of Springfield, Oregon; nieces, Diana Meadowcroft (Bill) of Vancouver, Washington; Sherri Smith (Doug) of MontLake Terrace, Washington; and Terri Brown (Doug) of Canyonville; and great nieces, Kaitlan and Lindsay Smith; Micah, Nathaniel, and Jeanneana Meadowcroft; and Jessica Brown. She is survived by very close friends, Cathy and Blair Bailey and daughter, Shelby. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 6, 2004, at 2 p.m., at Tri City Baptist Church where she was an active member. Myrtle Creek Family Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Lois Jeanette (Glockner) Michaels
MICHAELS, Lois Jeanette (Glockner) – Age 57, of Days Creek, Oregon, passed away with her family at her side on November 2, 2004, after a courageous battle against liver disease. Lois was born on December 11, 1946, in Orange, California, to Frank and Mae Rea (DeLong) Glockner. She graduated from Corona Del Mar High School and later earned an Associates Degree from Orange Coast College. Lois married Tom Michaels of Days Creek in 1967 and had three children, Troy, Carma and Lyn. Lois’ highest priority in life was her family. She took great pride in watching her children and family grow and providing a home where everyone was welcome. Most recently, much of her precious time was spent with her five grandchildren. Lois loved her job as a teacher’s aide at the Days Creek School where she positively influenced the lives of hundreds of children she worked with. Lois donated endless hours of her time to charitable causes and was a member of Oregon Chapter #57 of the Order of Eastern Star for more than 35 years, serving as Worthy Matron five times. She was a past Queen of Zuleima Temple #13 of Daughters of the Nile and played Bunko each month with the same group of ladies for over 25 years. Lois was always a lady and will be remembered as a gracious, loving and compassionate person who always thought of others first. Lois is survived by a loving family that includes her husband of 37 years, Tom; children, Troy Michaels and his wife, Holly of Days Creek; Carma Mornarich and her husband, Jeff of Roseburg; Lyn Smith and her husband, Brad of Eugene; mother, Mae Rea Glockner of Roseburg; brother, Don Glockner and his wife, Carol of Bellevue, Washington; sister, Linda Stornetta and her husband, John of Santa Maria, California; sister, Kathy Glockner of Roseburg; grandchildren, Katelyn Michaels; Sarah Michaels; Moriah Michaels, Clay Mornarich and Jack Mornarich; numerous nieces and nephews; and a very special Masonic family. She was preceded in death by her father, Frank Glockner. Larry Gene Young II
YOUNG II, Larry Gene — Age 33, of Canyonville, Oregon, passed away on October 30, 2004. He was born on November 8, 1970, to parents Allison and Larry Gene Young in Roseburg, Oregon. His mother, Allison Rechain; father, Larry Gene Young; grandfather, Thomas R. Cortez; and grandparents, Bud and Thora Young; preceded him in death. He is survived by his daughters, Mikayla and Mikenzie Young, of Myrtle Creek; his brother, Adrian “Andy” Young; his sister, Roxanne Rechain and her husband, Richard “Skeeter”; grandmother, Louise Cortez; step-grandmother, Paulette Bergman; step-fathers, Randy Perdue and Chris Rechain; aunt, Roxanne and her husband, Paul Hubbard; aunt, Caila Meacham; uncle, Tom Cortez; nieces and nephews; numerous cousins; and TONS of friends. Larry was abruptly taken from us in an auto accident. Andy and brother-in-law, Skeeter, were in a car ahead of Larry and immediately rushed to his aid. He left behind his two greatest joys in life, his daughters, Mikayla, age 6, and Mikenzie, age 5. Larry loved his two babies with all his heart. Larry was a kind-hearted person with a tremendous amount of love for his family. He was adventurous, "always ready to go and try anything" with friends. Larry spent most of his years growing up and going to school in the Days Creek/Canyonville area. Larry loved fishing, hunting, and having a "good time." Larry had a tremendous work ethic, and he took great pride in this. Larry started bucking hay at age 12 and later worked in the lumber and timber industries until his current employment with Superior Lumber. He was proud of his jacket and hat he had received from Superior. Larry enjoyed the simple things in life, spending time with family and friends, a walk in the mountains, and loving his babies. We will miss his smile, his hugs, and his kind heart. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that donations be made to the Larry Young Memorial Fundin care of Premier West Bank, 555 SE Kane, Rsbg, OR,97470. Memorial services will be held on November 6, 2004, at 1 p.m. with Rev. June Fothergill officiating at the Methodist Church, 2nd/Pine Street, Canyonville. A potluck for family and friends will be held immediately following the service. Wilson’s Chapel of the Roses is assisting in the arrangements.

Marie Pyle
PYLE, Marie — Age 77, of Oakland, Oregon, passed away on October 31, 2004, in Honolulu, Hawaii. She was born on June 16, 1927, in Gardena, California, to George and Beatrice (Goodes) Agranoitas. Marie married Luther "Mike" Pyle in Las Vegas, Nevada, on July 23, 1952. They made their home in Gardena, California, before moving to Oakland 45 years ago. Marie helped Mike on their cattle ranch and also worked for the Oregon State Forest Nursery in Elkton, Oregon, as an irrigation technician. She retired in 1990. Marie led an active life. She attended church at the Sutherlin Neighborhood Church of Christ. Marie was a member of the Sutherlin Lady Lions and a member of the Sutherlin TOPS and KOPS. She also was a volunteer at the Sutherlin Senior Center for eight years. Marie liked to travel and garden. She especially enjoyed raising roses because they were Mike's favorite flower. Marie looked forward to playing Pokeno once a week and taking daily walks with her friends in Sutherlin. Marie is survived by her sisters, Georgia Bondsmanson of Coalinga, California and Pollyanna Gardner of Huntington Park, California; numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, nephews and great-grandnieces and nephews. Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Mike Pyle who passed away on March 7, 1992. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., on Monday, November 8, 2004, at Chapel of the Firs, 881 W. 6th Ave., Sutherlin. Burial will be within the grounds of Kellogg Cemetery. Chapel of the Firs is in charge of arrangements.

FERREN, Candace — Age 44, of Roseburg, Oregon, passed away on October 17, 2004. Viewing and visitation will take place on Wednesday, October 20, 2004, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, October 21, 2004, at Wilson’s Chapel of the Roses with Chaplain Jim Osborne officiating.
