Peter Oluf Peterson
PETERSON, Peter Oluf — Born in North Bend, Oregon, on January 7, 1940, to William V. Peterson and Laura (Harris) Peterson. He passed away on November 22, 2004, of natural causes. His family lived in Ada, Oregon, until he was seven and then he and his family moved to Reedsport, Oregon. Pete's dad, William, worked in the woods and was a commercial fisherman. William died in 1949 in a car accident. Pete's mom worked for years in the mill to support her son and daughter, Joyce. Pete was preceded in death by his mother and and sister. Pete went to school in Reedsport until he joined the Navy on January 17, 1957, and was discharged February 24, 1961. Peter remained in the Reserves until April, 1963. His military service was very important to him. Pete lived all around the northwest. He was owner/operator of a landscaping business in Boise, Idaho, until he was in an accident which disabled him. Pete's loving mother went to Idaho and brought him home to Reedsport. Through sheer determination and working one day at a time with a goal for the day he learned to walk and talk. Eventually he was able to live alone and drive. He was never able to work at an occupation but used his time to help others all he could. He stopped around to check on and help many neighbors and friends. Pete had lots of folks he helped daily. Such as trips to the doctor, the store, the dump and hair dresser. One of the high points of his day was looking in on his dear friend, Marie Clark to see if she needed anything done. He liked to cut and polish rocks and had a great collection. He also liked to draw. Pete's good spirit and his outlook on life were an inspiration to us, The Leafdahl's. He lifted us up when we were down. The dogs of Reedsport will really miss him as well. He always carried treats for them and the loved to see him coming. He will be missed ... his sense of humor and quick wit were a rare and wonderful thing. Bye Pete ... We Love You.
