Paul G. Acosta
ACOSTA, Paul G. — Age 88, of Days Creek, Oregon, passed away at his home late Tuesday night, on December 7, 2004. He was born on April 12, 1916, at Camargo, Chihuahua, Mexico, to Benito and Guadalupe Gutierrez Acosta. The family came to the United States when he was quite young and he grew up and went to school in Las Angeles. Paul worked in Idaho, Washington, and Oregon working in the fields until the late 1940's. He lived for a time in Glendale and Azalea, Oregon, and also lived at Canyonville and Riddle, Oregon. He worked in the woods as a tree faller, and worked on the skidder, and as a cook. He retired at the age of 65 from Herbert Lumber Company, having worked at the mill pond park site and the current location in Riddle. Paul was married on September 19, 1948, in Canyonville, Oregon. Paul is survived by his wife, Barbara; two daughters, Bonnie Acosta of Shady Cove, Oregon; Paulette and her husband, Scotty Gladden of Canyonville; and granddaughter, April Gladden; both of Canyonville. Paul’s granddaughter, April was his greatest joy. He was preceded in death by two children, Thomas and Lupe. Memorial services will be held on December 18, 2004, at 2 p.m. at the Canyonville Seventh-day Adventist Church, 714 N.E. Frontage Rd. in Canyonville. Roseburg Funeral Alternatives is assisting the family.

William J. Buenafe
BUENAFE, William J. - Age 55, of Roseburg, Oregon, passed away on December 6, 2004, at his home. He was born on December 10, 1948, in Hanford, California, to Pearl and Pete Buenafe. He grew up in Arroyo Grande, California, and attended Arroyo Grande High School. In his mid-fourties he moved to Roseburg. While living in Roseburg he met numerous people, and was very well liked. He was a very giving and loveable person that will be missed by everyone who knew him. Survivors include his mother and father, Pearl and Pete Buenafe of Arroyo Grande; sister and brother-in-law, Norma and Pat Taylor of Pismo Beach, California; daughter and son-in-law, Christy and Bill Siewell; grandson, Jr. Siewell; granddaughter, Mandy Siewell, all of Sutherlin; daughter, Ashley Buenafe and her son, Travis Buenafe, both of Grants Pass, Oregon; numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be held in Arroyo Grande. LONG AND SHUKLE MEMORIAL CHAPEL assisted the family.

Clell Albert Holteen
HOLTEEN, Clell Albert — Passed away on December 8, 2004, on the 15th wedding anniversary of he and his wife, Laveta Holteen. Clell was born on June 6, 1941, in Klamath Falls, Oregon, to Avis and Claude Holteen. Clell lived in Roseburg, Oregon, from 1953 to 1960 and graduated from Roseburg High School in 1959. Clell served in the United States Army from 1960 to 1964. He attended A&P School in Eugene, Oregon, from 1964 to 1966. Clell lived in San Mateo, California, from 1966 to 1969 while working for TWA. He moved to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, from 1969 to 1976 while working for the Saudi Airlines. Clell returned to San Mateo, and worked at SFO from 1976 to 1995 and for BART from 1995 to 2000. He has been retired in Roseburg since 2001. Clell is survived by his wife of 15 years, Laveta Holteen; younger brother, Clayton Holteen and his wife, Renee; loving children, Cindy Holteen and Curt Holteen; grandchildren, Katrina; Alexis; and Christopher; Laveta's parents, Esco and Lola Ball; Laveta's daughter, Kimberly and her four children. Clell will join those who have preceded him in death, his parents, Claude and Avis and beloved sister, Phyllis Witt. Funeral services were held at Wilson's Chapel of the Roses on Monday, December 13, 2004, with Chaplain Ray Macbeth officiating. Interment was at Roseburg Memorial Gardens. Wilson's Chapel of the Roses was in charge of arrangements.

Robert Franklin Haines II
HAINES II, Robert Franklin — Age 70, of Sutherlin, Oregon, passed away on Saturday, December 11, 2004. He was born on October 20, 1934, in Elkton, Oregon, the son of Robert Franklin and Lucy (Hutchinson) Haines. He was raised and educated in Elkton and graduated high school there in 1955. Following high school, Robert went on to Klamath Falls, Oregon, and graduated in 1957 from O.T.I. Mr. Haines married the love of his life, Helen Gilstrap on February 13, 1960, in Sutherlin. He worked for Patterson’s Bakery in Roseburg, Oregon, until it closed down and then went to work for Champion International for twenty- nine and one half years until shut down. He enjoyed his family, taking Amtrak trips and the Blue Angels. He loved airplanes, “but didn’t like to fly!” He is survived by his wife, Helen of Sutherlin; four children, Wayne Haines and his wife, Salie of Roseburg, Oregon; Tonya Ward of Seattle, Washington; Shawnell Haines of Highland, California; Gerald Haines and his wife, Deanna of Dorena, Oregon; and Emilio Melendez of Roseburg, who was just like a son; one brother, Ronald Leffler and his wife, Glenda of Oakland, Oregon; two sisters, Betty Beck of Salem, Oregon; and Janice Gill of Oakland; eight grandchildren, Shane Haines of Eugene, Oregon; Ray Preston of Seattle; Shawna Martin and her husband, Michael of Yorba Linda, California; Jason and Joshua Haines of Fresno, California; Jevin Haines of Dorena, and Teasha Ward of Seattle; Selina Haines of Roseburg; one great-grandson, Deven “Robert” Martin of Yorba Linda; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Gerald; and two grandchildren, David Haines and Roger Ward Jr. Memorial services will be held on Friday, December 17, 2004, at 1 p.m., at the Central Faith Baptist Church in Sutherlin. Friends and family may pay their respects on Thursday, December 16, 2004, between 12 p.m. and 7 p.m., at Taylor’s Family Chapel in Winston, Oregon. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the family.

Larry F. DuVall
DUVALL, Larry F. — Age 70, of Azalea, Oregon, passed away at his home on Monday morning, December 13, 2004. He was born to John and Elizabeth Weinmaster DuVall near Sundance, Wyoming, on April 5, 1934. The family left there when he was only about six years old and went to California. He grew up and went to school in California. On September 17, 1953, he entered the U.S. Army and was released on September 14, 1956. On August 3, 1957, Larry married Judy Barsby in Lathrop, California. Larry had worked as a maintenance person at the County Hospital and also had worked as a correction officer at a correction facility. He also had been a truck driver and worked in his shop where he could build almost anything and he did enjoy fishing. Larry moved to Azaela in 1993. He is survived by his wife, Judy; three sons, Frank and his wife, Marla DuVall, all of Azalea; Matt and his wife, Dee DuVall of Meridian, Idaho; Bob DuVall of Stockton, California; two sisters and four brothers, five grandchildren, and three great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., on Thursday, December 16, 2004, at Mountain View Memorial Chapel in Myrtle Creek, Oregon. The District 12 VFW Honor Guard will be conducting the services.

Emma Chamberlin
CHAMBERLIN, Emma — Passed away on December 13, 2004, in Springfield, Oregon. She was born on October 31, 1920, in Germany, to Otto and Anna Maria Butts and moved to the United States at the age of 9 months. In 1932, the family moved to Tenmile, Oregon, from Iowa and later moved to the Roseburg, Oregon, area. Emma worked as a waitress while living in Roseburg and in 1940, she married Maurice Chamberlin. Emma and Maurice eventually settled in Seattle, Washington, where Emma worked in the dry cleaning business for 42 years prior to retiring. She is survived by her sons, Mike Chamberlin of Eugene, Oregon; Steve Chamberlin and his wife, Pam of Glendale, Arizona; sisters and brothers, Kathryn B. Kreger; Joseph (Pete) and Luella Butts; Dolly Fuchs; Fred and Judy Butts all of Roseburg; Bonnie and Russell Hunnicut of Drain, Oregon; two step grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Maurice. Private Cremation rites have been held. There will be no services at Emma's request.

Patricia ‘Patty’ Ann Beecroft
BEECROFT, Patricia “Patty” Ann — Age 66, of Oakland, Oregon, passed away on December 12, 2004, at home with her family. Patty was born on July 22, 1938, in Myrtle Point, Oregon, to Loyal and Elda Mae (Marcum) Norris. Patty graduated from Sutherlin High School and resided in the Sutherlin/Oakland area all of her life. She leaves behind her husband, Lyle Beecroft; three sons, Kermitt Beecroft and his wife, LeAnn; Clinton Beecroft and his wife, Katrina; and Kelvin Beecroft; and step-daughter, Terri Long and her husband, Jerry; grandchildren, Sarah; Chad; Valerie; and Chelsea; step-grandchildren, Jeneva and Leah; and step-great grandson, Damien; brothers, Gene Norris and his wife, Jeannie; and Don Norris. She is preceded in death by her parents, Loyal and Elda Mae Norris; her brother, Jack Norris; and her infant daughter, Julia Renee Beecroft. As per her wishes, there will be no services held. A private family memorial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, you may send a donation to the American Cancer Society, "Relay for Life", at P.O. Box 649, Oakland, OR, 97462. Wilson's Chapel of the roses is in charge of arrangements. Private cremation rites have been held.

William ‘Bill’ H. Bartlett Jr.
BARTLETT Jr., William “Bill” H. — Age 75, of Winston, Oregon, passed away on Monday, December 13, 2004. He was born on September 25, 1929, in Watertown, New York, where he was raised and educated. He entered the U.S. Marine Corps in 1947 to serve our country. He later moved to Utah before settling in Oregon. He retired after thirty years as a counselor with the Clearfield Job Corps. He is survived by his children, Michelle Bartlett of Winston; Teryll Coleman of Roseburg, Oregon; Mark Sullivan, stationed in Germany with the U.S. Air Force; Joel Sullivan of Iowa City, Iowa; Jeff Sullivan of Florida; David Sullivan of California; step-daughter, Sherri Kramer of California; two brothers, Jack Bartlett of California; Robert Bartlett of Syracuse, New York. Mr. Bartlett has eleven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Garceau and a brother, Norman Bartlett. Private interment will be at the Roseburg VA National Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Taylor's Family Chapel.

Mary B. Harrison
HARRISON, Mary B. — Age 97, of Anderson, California, passed away on December 14, 2004, in Redding, California. Private interment will be held at the I.O.O.F. cemetery in Myrtle Creek, Oregon. MOUNTAIN VIEW MEMORIAL CHAPEL assisted the family.

Darline Storer Heilman
HEILMAN, Darline Storer— Age 82, of Bend, Oregon, passed away on Thursday December 23, 2004. She was a resident of Camas Valley, Oregon, from 1948 to 1984, and Roseburg, Oregon from 1984 to 1992. Darline was born on December 17, 1922, in Casper, Wyoming to parents, Harvey and Elizabeth Storer. She graduated from high school in Blackfoot, Idaho. On July 3, 1943, Darline was united in marriage to Ted Heilman in Blackfoot. She was a member of the Church of The Nazarene, Secretary and then President of the St. Charles Medical Center Auxiliary. She had many hobbies that consisted of quilting, singing, reading, cooking, volunteering, and sewing. She is survived by her son, Berkley Holman of Bend; daughters, Teddy Holman of Bend; Jerry Porter of Rochester, Minnesota; brothers, Jerry Storer of Lewiston, Idaho; sisters, Hazel Hibbard and Thelma Gurley of Boise, Idaho; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Darline was preceded in death by her husband, Ted, in November 1980. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, December 30, 2004, at 1 p.m., at the Church of the Nazarene, 1270 NE 27th, Bend. A reception will follow the service. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Darline to St. Charles Medical Auxiliary or to the Church of the Nazarene. Autumn Funerals in Bend is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Timothy Lloyd Wiley
WILEY, Timothy Lloyd — Age 45, of Myrtle Creek, Oregon, passed away on Monday, December 13, 2004. Timothy was born on May 2, 1959, in Napa, California, the son of Emmett Lloyd and Mary Jane (Harris) Wiley. Mr. Wiley moved to Oregon in 1998 and came to settle in the Myrtle Creek area. Before Timothy moved to Oregon he was a long haul truck driver for Swift Trucking out of Phoenix, Arizona, worked in heavy construction and worked as an environmental engineer in New Jersey. He is survived by his fiancé, Lisa Elian of Myrtle Creek; two children, Christopher Wiley of Phoenix; Reanna Wiley of New Jersey; two brothers, Randy Price of Colville, Washington; Billie Augsback of Washington; four sisters, Valerie Carraher of Ballston, Oregon; Janie Koch of Louisville, Kentucky; Patricia Smith of Dallas, Oregon; Bobbie Hoffman of Hightstown, New Jersey; fourteen nieces and nephews, including special niece, Anglia Peables of Dallas, Oregon; and special nephew, Eric Iness of Salem, Oregon. A private memorial service has already been held. There will be a gathering of friends and family held at a later date in Dallas, Oregon. Barbara ‘Barbie’ Jan Vereker
VEREKER, Barbara “Barbie” — Age 71, of Sutherlin, Oregon, passed away Christmas Eve morning, Friday, December 24, 2004. She was born in San Jose, California, on August 29, 1933, to John E. and Kathleen E. (O' Rourke) Vereker. Barbie has been a resident of Douglas County for many years. She is survived by a sister, Kathleen A. Vereker-King and her husband, Henry; nephew, Kevin King, all of San Francisco, California; very close friend, Gail Hart, of Sutherlin. Private cremation rites will be held. Long and Shukle Memorial Chapel is handling the arrangements.

Oscar Howard Powell
POWELL, Oscar Howard — A long-time resident of Roseburg, Oregon, passed away December 26, 2004, at Mercy House. He was born on October 16, 1918, in Hartland, Washington, to James and Helen Powell. On November 27, 1949, he married Mildred Lawrence in Yakima, Washington. During his time in Roseburg, he worked for the Douglas County Road Department, Champion and Roseburg Lumber. He is survived by his wife, Mildred; three daughters, Joyce and her husband, Tom; Rebecca and her husband, David; Susan and her husband, Joel; one brother; four grandsons; and several nieces. Oscar was a member of First Conservative Baptist Church of Roseburg. Services will be held on Wednesday, December 29, 2004, at 2 p.m., at the First Conservative Baptist Church with Pastor Ron Laeger officiating. Memorial gifts may be made to the church in care of Oscar Powell Memorial Youth Camping Fund. Long and Shukle MEMORIAL CHAPEL is in charge of arrangements.

Theodore ‘Ted’ Cecil Russell
RUSSELL, Theodore “Ted” Cecil— Age 65, of Tenmile, Oregon, passed away on Monday, December 20, 2004. Ted was born on March 2, 1939, in South Bend, Washington, the son of Cecil and Edna (Parcell) Russell. He and his wife, moved to Portland, Oregon, in 1994, before settling in the Tenmile-Winston, Oregon, area in 1996. He loved his family, gardening, fishing, hunting and camping. Mr. Russell also took pride in his landscaping work and the work he had been doing recently on the family tree. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge. He is survived by his loving wife, Henrietta (Warnes) of Tenmile, whom he married in 1967, in Shelton, Washington; four children, Rhett Russell of Olympia, Washington; Roxanne Russell of Maryville, Tennessee; Rose Worgum and her husband, Jeff of Elkgrove, California; Hank Russell and his wife, Dawn of Olympia; three brothers, Richard and his wife, Marie of Olympia; Jerry of Crescent City, California; and Calvin and his wife, Carol of Spokane, Washington; one sister, Clara Lee Russell and her husband, Bob of Seattle; four grandchildren, Alec of Olympia; Philip and Jack of Elkgrove; and Kui of Olympia; and numerous nieces and nephews. A son, Robert and a granddaughter, Grace preceded Ted in death. There will be no services held at this time. Arrangements are under the direction of TAYLOR'S FAMILY CHAPEL.

Rolland ‘Rollie’ Herbert Pease
PEASE, Rolland “Rollie” Herbert — Friday morning, December 17, 2004, we lost a great man, father, grandfather, and friend to many. Rolland "Rollie" Herbert Pease passed away suddenly and shockingly. He was 70 years old. Rolland was born on January 23, 1934, in Yakima, Washington, to parents George Craig Pease Sr. and Cecelia Mae Steadman. He spent his early years in Yakima and Springfield, Oregon. Rolland served in the Army during the Korean War. In Springfield, he met and married Lois Marie (Butchie) Hughes on March 14, 1958. Together they raised five children. Rolland lived many years in the Glide, Oregon, area. He spent numerous years working for Burr Logging. He also drove long haul truck for a few years. His last jobs were working for Harding and Sons and Glide Garbage Disposal. For years Rollie ran road races and marathons. He could be seen many mornings walking the highway up the North Umpqua. Rollie was a wonderful father and we always knew we were loved. He took such great care of us. He was always there to give us a helping hand if we needed it. He was our rock. He was our dad. He made each one of us feel special. He never forgot a birthday or anniversary as some men might. He was known to tell one heck of a long winded story. He is survived by his sisters, Betty Jo and Barb; son, Rolland Chris Pease and his wife, Laura; daughters, Cindy McFadden and her husband, Tom; Cheryl Sulffridge and her husband, Jerry; Linda Stockman and her husband, Rich; and Cecelia Grubbs and her husband, Lloyd; his ex-wife, Lois Marie and her husband, Charlie; and their children, Dusty and Charlotte; grandchildren, Heather; Travis; Tia; Cristina; Carol; Niki; Lance; Derrick; Jeffrey; Mathew; Briana; Matthew; Christopher; and Taylor; numerous great-grandchildren and many, many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Bob and George; and a great- granddaughter, Haylay. A memorial service will be held on December 30, 2004, at Long and Shukle Memorial Chapel, at 2 p.m., a potluck for family and friends will immediately follow at the Glide Community Building. His ashes will be interred at Mt. Vernon Cemetery with his parents at a later date.

Barbara E. Langholff
LANGHOLFF, Barbara E. — Age 87, of Roseburg, Oregon, passed away on Friday, December 10, 2004. She was born on September 18, 1917, in Alameda, California, to Warren and Myrtle (Hatfield) Cloake. Barbara married Robert Langholff on November 3, 1940, in Roseburg. They were together for 62 years. While her husband, Robert, served in the Navy in World War II, she worked at the Kaiser Shipyard in Alameda. Upon his discharge in 1945, they moved back to Roseburg. Barbara was a charter member of the First Conservative Baptist Church and was the Financial Secretary and Sunday School Treasurer for many years. She was also the church historian and taught 3rd Grade Girls Sunday School and helped her husband in support of the Salvation Army charities. Her favorite Bible verse was Psalm 103:12‚ “As far as the East is from the West, so far has He removed our transgressions from us.” Barbara is preceded in death by her husband, Robert Langholff; parents, Warren and Myrtle Cloake; sister, Jane Cloake; and granddaughter, Laura Michelle Langholff. She is survived by her sister, Margaret Neufeld of Medford, Oregon; her son, Gilbert and his wife, Leta of Idaho Falls, Idaho; their children and families, Bret; Keith, and his wife, Amy, and their children, Keigen and Konner; Heather and her husband, David; Allyson; her son, Wayne and his wife, Marilyn of Edison, New Jersey; and their children, Angela, Catherine; Carl; and Melissa; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., on Thursday, December 30, 2004, in the First Conservative Baptist Church, 2245 NW Kline Street, Roseburg. Graveside committal will follow within the grounds of Roseburg Memorial Gardens. Pastors Ron Laeger, Steve Reischke, and Joe Heidrick will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mercy Home Health and Hospice of Roseburg. LONG AND SHUKLE MEMORIAL CHAPEL will be in charge of the arrangements.

Leroy ‘Roy’ Ray Cox
COX, Leroy “Roy” Ray — Age 83, of Roseburg, Oregon, went home to be with the Lord on December 24, 2004. He was born on December 22, 1921, in Elwood, Oregon, to Stanford and Ruth (Meyer) Cox. Roy graduated from Estacada Union High School in 1940. He served in the United States Army, Company A, 33rd Signal Battalion, providing communication lines for the front lines during WW II. Roy served in the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater and the Asiatic-Pacific Theater, (which includes Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes in Germany and Manila. On April 28, 1946, in Ocean Lake, Oregon (now Lincoln City, Oregon) Roy married the love of his life, Lois Virginia Wheeler. Roy moved with his family to Roseburg in February 1952. In 1960, he owned the Golden Eagle Station, then the first Enco Station. He was a mechanic for many years, previous to being a finished carpenter. Roy served as the President of the Carpenter’s Union, he worked with young people through U-Tep, sponsored by Umpqua Community College for many years. He was a member of Vine Street Baptist Church for many years. Roy had a woodworking shop at home where he spent many hours building things and making beautiful gifts for family and friends. He liked to fish, hunt, farm his land and spend time with his wife, children and grandchildren. What Roy enjoyed most was being the right hand man to his beloved wife, Lois Virginia. Survivors include his wife, Lois Virginia Cox of Roseburg; children, Carla Marlaine Barron and very dear friend, David G. Ebright of Portland, Oregon; Ginnie (Virginia) Lee Olson and her husband, Bill of Roseburg; Dan (Daniel) Leroy Cox and his wife, Kathy of Roseburg; grandchildren, Tammy and Greg HeCrow; David and Christine; Danny and Angela; Donald and Faith Barron; Kim and Allan Rott; Bryan, Angela, Brad, and Melissa Olson; and nine great-grandchildren. Preceding Roy in death were his parents and siblings, Norman Cox; Hazel Kauffman; Arnold Cox; cousin, Joseph A. Cox. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 28, 2004, at Wilson’s Chapel of the Roses and 11:30 until 12 p.m., on Wednesday, December 29, 2004, at Vine Street Baptist Church. Funeral services will follow at 12:30 p.m. Roy will be laid to rest in the Melrose Cemetery. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made in Roy’s name to the Kidney Foundation. WILSON’S CHAPEL of the ROSES is assisting the family with arrangements.

Virginia May Akins
AKINS, Virginia May — Our Momma received her summons to the biggest celebration on the holiest day of the year, to join Christ on his birthday, December 25, 2004. She was born on March 5, 1928, at home, in Algoma, Oregon, to Albert LeRoy and Clara May Welker. She moved to Roseburg, Oregon, and finally settled in Portland, Oregon, where she graduated from Jefferson High. During World War II she worked in the Portland Ship Yards as a welder's assistant building ships. She met her future husband, Leslie Akins at a union meeting. Virginia and Leslie married on March 3, 1946, in Vancouver, Washington, and had four children. She was a devoted wife and mother. In the late 60's she went to work for Mercy Hospital as a Nurse's Aid. She also worked for Douglas Community Hospital. She worked as a bookkeeper for years for her daughter's beauty shop. She joined the Valentine Chapter of Eastern Star in Myrtle Creek, Oregon, and was Worthy Matron, with Leslie as Worthy Patron in 1975. She enjoyed working in the festival booth to raise money for her year as Worthy Matron, and worked several years at it. She is survived by a sister, Alice Hayes of Roseburg; four daughters, Sherri Williams of Winston; Teresa and her husband, Jim Hausotter of Riddle; Pamela Akins and Debra Akins, both of Myrtle Creek; three granddaughters, Nanette and her husband, Ben Thompson; and their sons, Christopher McClesky and Levi McClesky, all of McMinnville, Oregon; Leslie and her husband, Don Naylor; and their sons, Lucas and Magnus, all of Myrtle Creek, ; Virginia and Tim Crago, and their son, Hunter, all of Winston, Oregon; and various nieces and nephews. She was a devoted Christian, and joined the First Baptist Church of Myrtle Creek in 1978 with her husband and daughters. She believed in prayer and that the Lord would take care of you, but you had to be in there trying. She had a sweet, caring and sincere concern for others, and always put others first. She liked canning fruit and vegetables from the garden, and she was a wonderful cook and baker. She enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles, and watching T.V. in the evening. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, and son-in-law. A memorial will be held on December 30, 2004 at 11 a.m., at the First Baptist Church in Myrtle Creek. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, or the Disabled Veterans of American. Mountain View memorial funeral chapel is in charge of the arrangements.

Doris Ellen Bailey
BAILEY, Doris Ellen — Of Sutherlin, Oregon, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great great-grandmother passed away on December 7, 2004, in Roseburg, Oregon. She was born on August 31, 1913, in Townshed, Vermont, to Robert and Agnes (Moore) Bratton. As a child Doris lived in Sutherlin. On December 20, 1931, Doris married Erwin "Curly" L. Baliey in Sutherlin. The Bailey's moved away and returned to Sutherlin in 1961. Doris was a member of the Industrial Club. The ladies met in each other’s home and made quilts for the Veterans Administration. Survivors include her children, LeeEllen Cooper of Cottage Grove, Oregon; Dade Bailey of Sutherlin; Arvid Bailey of Rogers, Arkansas; and Darlene Farrar of Belleville, Illinois; 21 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and numerous great great-grandchildren; brother, Jack Bratton of Sutherlin; sisters, Marian Turner of Sutherlin; Beluah Comstock of Roseburg; and Nora Carson of Eugene, Oregon. Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Erwin "Curly" Bailey; son, Lelan K. "Lanny" Bailey; three brothers and two sisters. There will be a gathering of family and friends from 12 p.m. until 4 p.m., on Saturday, December 18, 2004, at the Umpqua Regency in Sutherlin. Chapel of the Firs is in charge of arrangements.

Lewis Johnsrud
JOHNSRUD, Lewis — Age 84, of Drain, Oregon, passed away on December 13. 2004. He was born on August 10, 1920, to Hilmer and Sophia Johnsrud in North Dakota. Lewis was the eighth of twelve children. He married Bernice O. Knutson in Keene, North Dakota, on April 1, 1945. Lewis farmed and ranched at the family homestead until settling in Drain in 1957, where he grew and harvested beans and picked filberts. He worked for Douglas County Road Department from 1964 until 1983, when he retired. Lewis loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also enjoyed bowling, gardening, socializing, helping friends, yard work, hunting and fishing. Lewis was an active member of the Sunnydale Grange, VFW, Lion’s Club, Douglas County Fair Board, North Douglas FFA Honorary member and president of the bowling league. Lewis was honored in 2002 when he received the Senior First Citizen Award. Lewis is survived by his wife of 59 years, Bernice; son, Lewis Pat Johnsrud of Drain; son, Richard and his wife, Sharon W. Johnsrud of Baker City, Oregon; daughter, Althea Polanski of Milpitas, California; daughter, Celeste Johnsrud of Drain; son, Mark W. Johnsrud of Springfield, Oregon; four sisters, and three brothers; twelve grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, December 18, 2004, at 1 p.m., at Assembly of God Church in Drain. Memorial contributions may be made to the Senior Coalition in Lewis’s name.

Pauline Evans-Rose
EVANS-ROSE, Pauline — Age 83, passed away on November 22, 2004, at Gloria's Loving Care Foster Home. Pauline was born on May 24, 1921, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to Neelie and Thomas McGuire. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Monday, December 27, 2004, at the Harvest Christian Assembly, 825 N.E. Leon St., Myrtle Creek, Oregon, at 11:30 a.m., with Pastor Betty Bazzell officiating. Pauline married Harold Evans in January 1945, in Los Angeles, California. In 1988, Harold passed away after 43 years of marriage to the right woman. Pauline met and married Charles Rose in 1990. Pauline's faith in Jesus and her family were most important to her. Pauline enjoyed babies even if they were not her own. She enjoyed her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, reading the Bible, reading good Christian Books, playing pinochle, and attending Christian church services. Over the years Pauline attended the Corvallis Nazarene Church, Roseburg Conservative Baptist, Riddle Open Bible, and Myrtle Creek Harvest Christian Assembly as much as she was able. Pauline is survived by her daughters, Sandra Griffin and husband, Jim of Myrtle Creek; Beverly Brady and her husband, Charles of Virginia; Cheryl Henderson and husband, Norris of Washington; grandchildren, Kathleen; Brian; Kimberlee; Christopher; James; Jason; Kristen; eleven great-grandchildren, and six great great-grandchildren. Pauline was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles Rose; her parents, Neelie and Thomas McGuire; her twin brother, Paul McGuire in 2001, and four other brothers and three sisters. Private cremation rites have been held. Wilson's Chapel of the Roses is in charge of arrangements.

Shirley Lucille Stuart
STUART, Shirley Lucille — Age 86, formerly of Medford, Oregon, passed away on Wednesday, December 15, 2004, in Albany, Oregon. Shirley was born to John W. and Nellie (Glasson) Gibson in Elgin, Oregon, on December 8, 1918. The family lived in Kelso, Washington, and Seaside, Oregon, before moving to Medford in 1924. She attended Medford Schools, graduating from Medford High School in 1937. Shirley attended Medford Business College and was employed as a bookkeeper at American Laundry. On July 4, 1941, she married James E. (Cotton) Stuart in Reno, Nevada. They resided in Medford until moving to Toketee, Oregon, on the North Umpqua River in May 1948. While living in Toketee for 31 years, they raised two daughters. Shirley taught Sunday school and was the Camp Fire Girls leader for many years. She enjoyed outdoor activities, especially hiking, fishing, hunting, gardening, and cooking. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. In 1979, they retired to Medford. Shirley moved to Albany, Oregon, in 2000. She was preceded in death by her husband, James and daughter, Betty Stuart Mitchell. Shirley is survived by her daughter, Peggy Schultz of Albany; brother, Stanley Gibson of Medford; five grandchildren; Anjeantette Russell of Indio; Steve Mitchell of Roseburg; Eric Schultz, San Francisco, California; Suzanne Schultz of Portland; Pamela Schultz of Corvallis, Oregon; great-grandson, Steve Mitchell Jr. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, December 18, 2004, at Perl Funeral Home in Medford. Family suggests memorial contributions be made to charity of choice. Arrangements are with Perl Funeral Home.
