David T. Hill
HILL, David T. — Age 37, of Roseburg, Oregon. David passed away suddenly and unexpectedly, May 19, 2005, at a local hospital. Dave was brought into this world February 18, 1968, in Redlands, California. In 1976, Dave moved with his family to Roseburg. Dave had a close-knit family that included his mother, Sandy Hill; father, L.T. Hill; and sister, Ronda Williams. Dave was a highly active child that kept his mother, father, and sister busy trying to keep up with him. It was evident early on that Dave had a great deal of courage and tenacity. He competed in many sports growing up, and loved to hunt, fish, shoot, and kayak. There was nothing Dave was afraid to try. Sandy, of course, was always concerned with Dave's often reckless "afraid of nothing" attitude. Dave graduated from Roseburg High School in 1987, and it was no surprise to his family when he announced his enlistment in the U.S. Marine Corps. Tragically, just prior to entering basic training, Dave was involved in a horrific motorcycle accident that nearly killed him and left him paralyzed from the waist down. Dave's courage and strength immediately showed through getting him out of rehabilitation in half the predicted time. Determined, Dave never complained about his condition or allowed it to stop him from doing the things he loved. He continued to hunt and fish using an ATV for mobility. He loved his yearly elk hunting trip with is father and uncles. Dave went to school and earned an Associates degree, held down a full time job at Roseburg Forest Products, and purchased his own home. Dave had a very close relationship with his mother and was devastated by her untimely death in 2000. Persevering, Dave continued living an independent lifestyle and enjoyed the close relationship of his remaining family. In 2003, Dave became a full time student at Northwest Christian College and was a few weeks away from receiving his Bachelor’s degree at the time of his death. David was an inspiration to all who knew him. He was the epitome of strength and courage and will be missed by all who knew him. David is survived by his father, L.T. Hill of Roseburg; sister, Ronda WIlliams and her husband, Jim of Milwaukie, Oregon; niece, Stephanie Williams; grandmother, Zepha Snyder of Albany, Oregon; and many loving aunts, uncles, and their families. There will be a memorial service held on May 28, 2005, at 1 p.m. at Wilson's Chapel of the Roses in Roseburg. Private cremation arrangements will be provided. WILSON'S CHAPEL OF THE ROSES is in charge of arrangements.

Edna Olsen
OLSEN, Edna — Wednesday the 10th of August, 2005, Jesus came and carried our mom, Edna Olsen to Paradise. He said to her, “Receive your inheritance because you have put your faith in me.” She was born in Eugene, Oregon, on April 1, 1910, and lived to be 95 years and 4 months of age. Her parents were of Norwegian descent and had migrated from Valley City, North Dakota, to the Spencer Creek area of Eugene, Oregon, in 1894. Her father, John Adolph Halderson and mother, Mary Hannah Bjerke each had 11 siblings, most of which lived very close by the homesteads of their parents. Mom had many happy stories to tell about life with all her cousins, aunts and uncles since many were close in age. There was a dance held regularly on the third floor of her grandparent’s home. Friends and relatives would come from miles around by horse and buggy, bringing their potluck dish. Someone would play the fiddle and all would dance. Mom loved music and to dance all her life. She said that grandpa taught all the girls how to dance. Mom had three siblings, Martha, Helmer and Leona who have preceded her in death. She had two daughters and sons-in-law, Loretta and Dale Miller of Tigard, Oregon, and Carolyn and Gene Kemp of Roseburg, Oregon. She had six grandchildren, Cheryl Miller Reali of Santa Cruz, California; Ron Miller of Maine; Patti Miller Segretto, who was waiting for her in heaven (probably they are talking shop about beauty work), Richard and Randall of Roseburg; Robert of Eugene. Her great-grandchildren are Stephanie Segretto Walker of Kentucky; Emma Miller of Maine; Andrew, Erica and Nicky Kemp, all of Roseburg. Mom was a hairdresser for over forty years in Eugene, North Bend and Roseburg. After her retirement she was a senior companion for a long time in Eugene and also was the one to look in on various relatives. She was always there for me, my sister or anyone who needed her. On the day of her stroke in 1992 she had cherries to bring one cousin and another to take to a doctor appointment. She was painting her kitchen cupboards and planning a 65th birthday party for Loretta. She lived another 13 years incapacitated and in the care of others. Much thanks to her special caregivers, Sandy Corliss and especially Jeanne Simpson who gave her excellent care and love for over 11 years.
