Lester A. ‘Bud’ Nelson
NELSON, Lester A. “Bud” — Age 81, of Roseburg, Oregon, passed away on Friday, February 3, 2006, at a local hospital. He was born on June 5, 1924, in Melrose, Oregon, to Oscar and Agda Nelson. Bud lived his entire life in the Roseburg area. He graduated from Roseburg High School in 1942. Bud served in the U.S. Navy during WWII from 1943 until 1946. Among his many successful business endeavors were Richie’s Drive-Inn, Pizza Inn on Harvard, real estate salesman, broker and appraiser. He married Vicki Flindt in 1948. They had three daughters. This marriage ended in divorce. Bud married Cecelia Harris in 1995. He was active in the Lions, Elks and Moose Clubs. Bud enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, traveling, going to the coast and making stained glass. He played bridge and pinochle. Bud was a wonderful husband, father, brother, grandfather and uncle. He will be greatly missed by all. Bud was preceded in death by his sister, Mae Hall and his second wife, Cecelia Harris Nelson. He is survived by his daughters, Diane Sievers and her husband, Ron of Albany, Oregon; Cindy Neal of Roseburg; Lisa Nelson of Beaverton, Oregon; four grandsons, Matt and Jason Sievers; Brian and Curtis Neal; brothers, Lloyd and Frank “Ed” of Roseburg; Ivar of Florence, Oregon; Donald of Tucson, Arizona; sisters, Mildred Prouty of Shelton, Washington; Marian Adams of Lebanon, Oregon; and numerous nieces and nephews. He last resided at Riverview Terrace and greatly enjoyed the staff and residents. Services will be on Thursday, February 9, 2006, at 12 noon at LONG & SHUKLE MEMORIAL CHAPEL. A reception will be held at 1 p.m. at Riverview Terrace on Harvard Avenue. Private internment will be held at a later date at Roseburg Memorial Gardens. Donations in Bud’s memory may be made to the Oregon Lung Association.

Donald Thomas McGinnis
MCGINNIS, Donald Thomas — Better known as Donald Duck McGinnis was born on July 1, 1941, in Medford, Oregon. He spent the last 17 years in Roseburg, Oregon, at Umpqua Homes For The Handicapped. Mother Rose and siblings reside in Idaho. Donald loved to work cattails and was an amazing artist as he loved to draw pictures and do all kinds of other projects. Donald Duck and Santa Claus were two important people in his life that we each had numerous conversations about with him. Donald had friends of all ages. He loved babies and animals. Anyone who knew him from as short as a few days to as long as many years seemed to take to him. He grew in all of our hearts the same. Donald decided what he would call each one of his friends and for some reason every name that he dubbed stuck. All of us have our very special and dear thoughts which will keep him in our memories for years to come. Donald is preceded in death by friend, “girly pete.” He is survived by family in Idaho and at Keasey Street Group Home. A special thanks to each staff member at Keasey St., DSI, Dr. Keys and all others in the community that helped him live life to the fullest. What a wonderful man to have known. Open house services are being held at the Mercy Community Education Building on Stewart Parkway on Wednesday, February 8, 2006, from 11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.

Juanita Evelyn Watkins
WATKINS, Juanita Evelyn — A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m., on Saturday, February 25, 2006, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness in Sutherlin, Oregon, for Juanita “Nita” Watkins who passed away on February 2, 2006, at the age of 82. Juanita was born on November 19, 1922, in Okemah, Oklahoma. However, she lived most of her life in Oregon, having moved to Sutherlin due to her husband’s health. She previously lived in Coos Bay, Oregon, for many years. She was a homemaker, famous for her pies and love for her grandchildren. She was a faithful Jehovah’s Witness for many years. Survivors include her husband, Blaine Watkins; daughters, Janet Mohn of Portland, Oregon; Jane Swinney of Lincoln City, Oregon; step-son, Larry Watkins of Creswell, Oregon; step-daughter, Robin Reiser of Cottage Grove; 25 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and many friends who loved her dearly. Her son, John Noah Jr. preceded her in death.

Robert Lewis Johnson
JOHNSON, Robert Lewis — Age 70, of Winston, Oregon, passed away on Monday, February 6, 2006, in Roseburg, Oregon, after a lengthy illness. He was born on March 19, 1935, in Aberdeen, Washington, the son of Edward Kain and Minnie (Kalm) Johnson. Robert was a truck mechanic, which he specialized in while serving our country in the U.S. Army. He was united in marriage to Doris on October 27, 1984, in Lake Merwin, Oregon. He retired from the State of Washington and they moved to Winston where he drove school bus for five years. He loved children and many a young one made his day by stopping him to say “hi” when they met them while shopping. He was an active member of the Winston Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints. He is survived by his wife, Doris Mae Johnson and her two sons, John and Daniel Gerbitz. He also leaves his five children from a previous marriage, Christine Ann; Ronald Edwin; Robert Jr.; Richard Eugene; and Cinda Lou; four sisters, Evelyn and Margaret Mosier; Anna Martinez; and Ellen Fletcher. Funeral services will be held at the Winston Ward of the Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints on Friday, February 10, 2006, at 10 a.m. Bishop Thomas Bidwell III will officiate. Interment will follow at the Roseburg Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Taylor’s Family Chapel.

Judith ‘Judy’ Susan Spitzer (Kemper)
SPITZER, Judith “Judy” Susan (Kemper) — Age 51, of Roseburg, Oregon, passed away on Monday, February 6, 2006. She was born on July 19, 1954, in Roseburg to Manley and Velda Kemper. Judy graduated from Roseburg High School in 1972, went to Umpqua Community College and graduated from Mountain View Bible College in Didsbury, Canada. On March 21, 1981, she married Herbert Arthur Spitzer Jr., of Palmdale, California. Judy frequently volunteered as a teacher’s helper and for her church. She home schooled her children. Judy loved decorating her home and gardening. She enjoyed meeting and working with people. Some of her favorite things to do were camping, fishing, traveling and exploring nature. Judy was a kind and giving person. She is survived by her loving family including her husband, Herbert; daughters, Dianne M. of Palmdale; Amy E. of Roseburg; sister, Carol Worral of Canby, Oregon; brother, William of Twaine Harte, California; and numerous nieces and nephews. Judy was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Larry. Services will be held on Saturday, February 11, 2006, at 1 p.m., at WILSON’S CHAPEL OF THE ROSES, 965 West Harvard, in Roseburg. All who knew her are welcome. A reception following the services will be held at Elmer’s restaurant. Her body will be interred at the Roseburg Memorial Gardens, 1056 N.W. William Goodell
GOODELL, William — Age 85, of Springfield, Oregon, passed away on January 28, 2006. A celebration of life will be held on February 19, 2006, at 2 p.m., at the Moose Lodge in Springfield. William was born on February 4, 1920, in Enumclaw, Washington, to Darell and Lettie Minor Goodell. He married Gertrude Manwell on November 10, 1972, in Rice Valley. He previously lived in Kelso and Sunnyside, both in Washington and in Camas Valley, Oregon. He graduated from Camas Valley High School in 1938 and worked in the logging business for several years. William served in the Navy from 1941 until 1945, including three years in The Aleutian Islands, and was an instructor at the Navy Electronic Training School in Chicago. He attained the rate of chief electronics technician. William moved to Creswell, Oregon, in 1969, and worked as an electronics instructor at Thurston High School in Springfield for nine years. In 1981, he began doing repair work on televisions and videocassette recorders as a hobby and later established his own business, River Drive TV Repair Service. William retired in 2000 and moved to Springfield. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Linda Goodell of Anaheim, California; Charlotte VanTassell of Roseburg; his former wife, Florence Goodell of Roseburg; sister, Iris Chapman of Lowell; brother, Edwin of Brookings; four step-sons, Clifford Whiting and Glen Whiting, both of Springfield; Les Witham of Eugene; Rick Manwell of Ocean Shores, Washington; two step-daughters, Claudia Baumgart of Monmouth; Paula Sajec of Aberdeen, Washington; 16 step-grandchildren; 20 step-great-grandchildren. A son, William ‘Billy’ Goodell and a step-daughter, Lila Witham preceded him in death. ANDREASON’S CREMATION & BURIAL SERVICE in Eugene is in charge of the arrangements. Barbara E. Rigsby
RIGSBY, Barbara E. — Age 67, of Myrtle Creek, Oregon, passed away in Roseburg, Oregon, on February 10, 2006. She was born in Prineville, Oregon, to Earl and Gertrude (Puckett) Rosenbaum on November 9, 1938. She went to school in Prineville until middle school and came to the Riddle-Myrtle Creek area in 1952 where she completed school. On June 16, 1956, Barbara married John C. Rigsby and they enjoyed 45 years together. Barbara was a wife, mother, and worked over 30 years in jewelry sales. Many of her customers that met her in the early 1970s were still her loyal customers and friends in 2006. Survivors include her sons, Kelly and his wife, Mandy of Fallon, Nevada; Chris and his wife, Belinda of Myrtle Creek; and grandchildren, Courtney and Shawn of Fallon. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, John in 2002; her daughter, Shawn Anne; and her parents. At Barbara’s request, there will be no services held. There will be a gathering for family and friends on Sunday, February 12, 2006, at 3 p.m., at Abby’s Pizza in Myrtle Creek. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated. Donations may be left at the funeral home. Dorothy J. Laveck
LAVECK, Dorothy J. — Age 80. Dot was born on August 7, 1925, in Campbell, Ohio, and went home to the Lord on December 30, 2005, in Eugene, Oregon. She was preceded in death by her mother, Helen; her father, John Kenney; brother, Jack Kenney; and her first husband, Frank Laveck. She is survived by her sister, Martha Kauffman of California; two nieces, Jackie Czapla of California; Sheri of Arizona; two nephews, David Kauffman of California; Dan Kauffman of Washington; and her present husband, Jack Skold of Winston, Oregon. Dot was a life member of the Eastern Star in Sacramento, California. She spent 17 years as an assistant in a doctor’s office. She was a member of the American Legion Aux. Post 16 in Roseburg, Oregon. Dot was also an active member of the Upper Olalla Ladies Apron Club since she moved to the Olalla community 13 years ago. She cared a great deal about our Veterans and spent many hours volunteering at the Roseburg VA Hospital. She loved working outside in her garden. She also loved to knit and sew. Dot was loving and caring. She was a hard worker, always busy doing something. You knew the minute that you met Dot that she was a special person. She will be dearly missed by her friends and family and her pet dog, J.J. A memorial service will be held, by the Auxiliary, at the American Legion Hall, 406 S.E. Oak Ave., in Roseburg on Saturday, February 18, 2006, at 2 p.m. All of her many friends are invited.

Kathryn Noma Grayson
GRAYSON, Kathryn Noma — Age 90, of Roseburg, Oregon, passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2006, in a local hospital. She was born on April 4, 1915, in Hayden Lake, Idaho, to William S. and Doris G. (Curtis) George. In 1934, in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, she married Eugene Rouse who preceded her in death in 1982. On February 10, 1984, in Roseburg, Oregon. Kathryn married Lawrence Grayson who preceded her in death in 1991. Mrs. Grayson had lived in the Roseburg area for 20 years. She enjoyed knitting dishcloths for her family and crocheting afghans. While she was able, she attended New Life Christian Center. Survivors include her daughters, Erma Knight and her husband, Dennis of Roseburg; Ardis Keyser and her husband, Bob of Spanaway, Washington; Kathy June Bliss of Albany, Oregon; Sherri Louise Rowe and her husband, Bob of Roseburg; son, Wayne Rouse of Everett, Washington; sisters, Esther Richardson of Hayden Lake, Idaho; Dorothy Craven of Seattle; brothers, Robert D. George and his wife, Donna of Kennewick, Washington; Glen George and his wife, Lorraine of Coeur d’Alene; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Mrs. Grayson was also preceded in death by a son, Roy Rouse in 1946; one sister; three brothers; and son-in-law, Don Bliss. Private family services were held in Albany. JENNINGS, Jeannette Ann — Jeannette was born on January 8, 1967, in Lebanon, Oregon, daughter of Carl and Gloria (Jones) Jennings, but was raised and educated in the Winston-Roseburg, Oregon, area. She had worked at the downtown Safeway in Roseburg. Jeannette enjoyed reading and fashions, but her real dedication was to her baby. She always had a smile and a bubbling personality and was a joy to be with. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived by her mother, Gloria Tidwell and her husband, Roger of Myrtle Creek; a daughter, Chantel Rae Woods of Anchorage, Alaska; a son, Julian Commette of Seattle, Washington; three brothers, Timothy Blaine Jennings and his companion, Lisa of Winston; James Oliver of Roseburg; Brandon Tidwell and his companion, Kila of Roseburg; sister, Melissa Evans and her husband, Aaron and their family of Coos Bay, Oregon; and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles including Berry Jones and his wife, Nell of Roseburg.

JENNINGS, Timoteo Danotchi Raeshawn (Vaefaga) — Timoteo was born on June 24, 2005, in Roseburg, the son of Stewart Vaefaga and Jeannette Jennings. He is survived by his father, Stewart of Myrtle Creek; his grandparents, Carl Jennings of Kansas; Gloria Tidwell and her husband, Roger of Myrtle Creek; sister, Chantel Rae Woods of Anchorage; three brothers, Julian Commette of Seattle; Vincent Manuwai, who plays for the NFL Jacksonville Jaguars; Reggie Manuwai of Hawaii; great-grandmother, Geraldine Jones-Miller of Winston; numerous aunts and uncles, including Tim Jennings; Jim Oliver; Sam Tuaau; Fred, James, Joe, Francis and Thomas Taylor; and Paese, Vera and Lei Taylor. Funeral services for Jeanette and Timoteo Jennings, mother and son, will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2006, at 1 p.m., at Taylor’s Family Chapel in Winston. Angalee Elizabeth Brady
BRADY, Angalee Elizabeth — Age 51, of Myrtle Creek, Oregon, passed away at a local hospital early on Monday, February 13, 2006. She was the daughter of Kenneth Brady and Delano and Dorothy Casten of Glendale, Oregon. She was born on October 8, 1954, in Roseburg, Oregon, and lived most of her life in the Myrtle Creek area. Angalee was a graduate of Glendale High School and went to Umpqua Community College for nearly two years. She was a member of the Order Of The Eastern Star in Canyonville, Oregon. She loved flowers and gardening. Surviving are one son, Tyler James Woodral of Salem, Oregon; one daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Walczak of Myrtle Creek; two brothers, Patrick James and Shelly Brady of Marysville, Washington; Larry Wayne and his wife, Marsha Brady of Springfield, Oregon; one sister, Stephanie and her husband, Bryan Mortensen of South Seattle, Washington; and one granddaughter, Riley Woodral of Salem. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 16, 2006, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, 1040 Lillian Street in Myrtle Creek, with a private burial to follow at the Glendale Cemetery. Ethel S. Groseclose
GROSECLOSE, Ethel S. — Age 86, passed away on February 13, 2006, in Winston, Oregon, due to complications from spleen cancer. She was born in Canyon Creek, Idaho, near Orofino on January 29, 1920, the fifth of seven children born to J.A. and Anna Harless. She attended school at the one room South Teakean school, and later in life at Kendrick High School, (Idaho) and at Lewis and Clark Normal School in Lewiston. She was married to Carroll Y. Groseclose in Juliaetta, Idaho, on July 7, 1938. They made their home in Teakean and later near Juliaetta where the couple reared four children. In 1996, they moved to Winston to be near family where they also observed their 60th wedding anniversary in 1998. Ethel’s years in Juliaetta included many happy times with large varieties of all kinds of animals and birds which she and a family friend, Beverly Wilson bought, cared for and sold as a greatly enjoyable avocation. During her entire lifetime from early childhood, Ethel S. was a diligent believer and follower of Jesus Christ whom she served without reservation in any way she could. For 20 years she served as Church Treasurer at the Kendrick Assembly of God Church in Kendrick, Idaho, where the entire family were also regular members. Ethel S. was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll Y. Groseclose in 1999; a daughter, Inis Louise Nichols in 1978; three brothers, Carl, Raymond and Glen Harless; and two sisters, Marie Mooers and Pearl Willcox. She is survived by three sons, Steve Groseclose and his wife, Anna-belle of Highland Park, Michigan; William Jesse Groseclose Kloss and his wife, Janna of Columbia, South Carolina; Art Groseclose and his wife, Verla of Winston; brother, Ned Harless of Aberdeen, Washington; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews in different states and overseas. Contributions in her memory may be sent to Jesus Film Project P.O. Box 628222 Orlando, Florida, 32862. A memorial service will take place on Monday, February 20, 2006, at 1 p.m. at the Winston Christian Church with Pastor Harv Pullam and Pastor Anthony Marshall officiating. A second memorial service will take place on Friday, February 24, 2006, at 10 a.m. at the Juliaetta Community Church in Juliaetta with Pastor Dallas Groseclose and Pastor Marvin Preussler officiating. Private burial will be at the Juliaetta Cemetery. TAYLOR’S FAMILY CHAPEL is in charge of the arrangements.

Opal Louise Speakman
SPEAKMAN, Opal Louise — Mom peacefully and at home left this frail earthly body for a glorious heavenly body, 2Cor 5:6,7,8. She was born on November 12, 1916, to John and Emma Moore in Noble County, Oklahoma. She passed away on February 14, 2006, in Sutherlin, Oregon, at the age of 89. Opal married Ellis W. Speakman on December 24, 1937, in Perry, Oklahoma. Ellis and Opal moved from Lela, Oklahoma, to Castle Rock, Washington, in 1948, to Toledo, Oregon, in 1958, and to Sutherlin in 1975. They raised four children, Eugene, Carol Gillen, Marvin, and Emily Blakely. Opal was preceded in death by her husband, Ellis in 1986; two brothers, Forrest and Harvey Moore; and grandson, Joel Speakman. Opal is survived by sisters, Margaret Wehr; Mildred Mahlo; Fran Tunnell; four children; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; son-in-laws, Paul Gillen; Clyde Blakely; and daughter-in-law, Jeanette Speakman, all of whom loved her dearly. Mom suffered with Parkinson’s for the last forty years of her life and never once complained. She not only talked the talk but walked the walk. We were blessed in having her for our mother. She made sure that her children knew about the Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Opal ran her course; she never faltered and never failed. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2006, at Fair Oaks Cemetery with Pastor Stewart Fowler officiating. Jenetta I. Byrd
BYRD, Jenetta I. — Age 62, passed away on Monday, February 13, 2006, at her home due to a long battle with cancer. She was born on June 2, 1943, in Rockyford, Colorado, to Stanley and Stella Johnson. On December 16, 1968, she married Roy Byrd in Drain, Oregon. Jenetta had lived in Sutherlin, Oregon, for about 40 years. Jenetta is survived by her husband, Roy; six children; three girls, Dwonia Roundsville, Nora Youngblood and Windy Byrd; three sons, Donnell Love; Roy “Dandy” Byrd and Justin Byrd; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson; mother, Stella Johnson; three sisters, Rebecca Love of Oakridge; Starleth Gresser of Sutherlin; Ronda Osborn of Sutherlin; two brothers, Chip Johnson and his wife, Diane of Roseburg; and Carl Johnson and his wife, Rita of Wilbur. Mark Eli Darling
DARLING, Mark Eli — Beloved husband, dad, grandpa, great-grandpa, great great-grandpa and friend to many passed away on Wednesday, April 27, 2005, at a foster care home in Sutherlin, Oregon, at the age of 79, after battling cancer for about 6 years. Mark was born on September 25, 1925, in Saratoga, Wyoming to Earl and Mirttie (Caldwell) Darling. He was raised and worked in Wyoming. Mark served in the U.S. Navy from November 1943 until June 1946 as a cook. In 1949, he went to Hood River, Oregon, to visit Pearl and Harry Aylesworth, his aunt and uncle. The day he arrived in Hood River he met Edna Hilkey and they were married on May 5, 1951. Mark always took pride in the fact that not everyone could gain two sons on their wedding day. Mark and Edna spent almost 54 years together. Edna preceded Mark in death on April 12, 2005. Mark worked for the Oregon State Highway Department in Hood River for a few years. In 1953, the family moved to Roseburg. Mark went to work for Young’s Bay Lumber Company (later know as Champion Plywood). He also worked for Evans Plywood (now Douglas County Forest Products). While working in the mills he acquired the nickname “Wild Bill”, which stayed with him for many years. In 1966, he went to work for Boones Vending Service (later becoming Canteen Company) serving candy and snack machines. In 1978, he went to work for Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Roseburg until he retired in 1987. After Mark and Edna retired they became RV park managers for several parks in Douglas County. Mark loved to fish. It didn’t matter if it was at a river, the ocean or a lake. He also enjoyed making bird houses and feeders., growing vegetables, cooking for large groups, watching car races (even working in the pits at many PRA races at the Douglas County Fairgrounds), watching football, watching the birds and squirrels use the feeders he made, playing cards with friends and listening to the Roseburg High School Marching Band. For 20 years he bowled on several leagues in Roseburg. Mark is survived by two step-sons, Calvin Hilkey and his wife, Karen of Springfield, Oregon; Tony Hilkey of Kenmore, Washington; daughter, Gloria Pope and her husband, Dennis of Roseburg; a very special friend, (whom he loved like a daughter) Sandy Paul, also of Roseburg. He loved all of his seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild. According to his wishes, Mark will be cremated at Wilson’s Chapel of the Roses and there will be no service at this time. Private inurnment will be held in the Roseburg National Cemetery. The family has agreed to have a celebration of life for their parents at a later date. Announcement of this event will be placed in the News Review. Donations in Mark’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society for Leukemia Research (Myeloma Foundation) or the charity of your choice. The families of Mark and Edna Darling would like to thank Dr. Ottenheimer and his staff, Medical Park Pharmacy and staff, the Mercy Home Health and Hospice nurses, for their care of “Miss Edna and Mark. JoAnn Wharton Weston Hardarson
WESTON, JoAnn Wharton — Age 71, of Roseburg, Oregon passed away on May 2, 2005. She was born on June 6, 1933, in Wenatchee, Washington and was adopted in 1941, by George and Jennie Wharton who both preceded her in death in 1979, and 1991. She is survived by her husband, Gunnar Hardarson; five children, daughters, Jennifer Mill of Hood River, Oregon; Joannie English of Spokane, Washington; Julie Juskowiak of Lakeland, Florida; sons, George D. Bunch of Williston, Florida; son, Jeffrey Doyle Weston of Roseburg; and all their spouses, and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. “A special thanks to my dear friends, Loretta Coutts and Agnes Closner, who have always been there for me”..
“You will be dearly missed and forever loved. We’ll see you when we get there”.
At her request there will be no funeral or memorial services. At request there will be a picnic on Friday, May 6, 2005, at 4 p.m. to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society in her name, at AMCS 31 W. 6th Medford Oregon, 97501.

Meryl Russo
RUSSO, Meryl Viola — Age 91, of Roseburg, Oregon, passed away on April 24, 2005, at a local hospital in Roseburg. She was born on March 25, 1914, in Wilsall, Montana, to Glenn Wellman and Katherine Clinton Wellman. Meryl was a beautician and owned beauty shops in San Diego, California and Roseburg. She was married to Norman Hess until his death in 1963. She married Joe Russo on March 25, 1974. Meryl loved to travel and play golf. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Marguerite Wellman; Maxine Daly; Phyllis Wolf; and Sunnie Foy; and two husbands. She is survived by five nieces and one nephew. Donations may be made to UCAN Food Shares, 2448 W. Harvard, Roseburg, OR 97470-2506. At Meryl's request, no formal service will be held.

Burton Paul Blommer
BLOMMER, Burton Paul — Age 58, of Roseburg, Oregon, passed away on April 19, 2005. He was born on November 29, 1946, in Inglewood, California. He graduated from Serra High School. He loved crossword puzzles, trains, and computers. He retired six years ago from IBM and then moved to Roseburg. He is survived by his father, William Blommer of Roseburg; daughter, Cathie Stiefel; grandson, Kyle of Winchester, California; brother, Jerry Blommer of Eureka, California; brother, Richard Blommer of Salem, Oregon; sister, Barbara Zarowski of San Ramon, California; sister, Joan Reinig of Elk Grove, California; sister, Sue Blommer-Taylor of Roseburg; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Blommer. A memorial Mass will be held on Friday, May 6, 2005, at 12 noon at the St. Joseph Church.

Geneva A. Farmer
FARMER, Geneva A. — Age 81, of Jacksonville, Oregon, passed away on Monday morning, May 2, 2005, at her residence. She was born March 21, 1924, in Ashland, Oregon, the daughter of Benjamin and Carrie Elizabeth Poole Raleigh. She married Ray W. Farmer on October 4, 1942, in Bowling Green, Missouri, and he preceded her in death on October 2, 1986. She is survived by four sons, Robert Farmer and wife, Judy of Beardstown; Boyd Farmer and wife, Jane of Seminole, Florida; Dale Farmer of Roseburg; and Marty Farmer and wife, Pam of Jacksonville; five daughters, Cari and husband, Mike Koke; Jackie and husband, Dan Manker, both of Springfield, Oregon; Mary and husband, Rick English; Ginnie and husband, Mark Yording, both of Jacksonville; Vicki and husband, Paul Brown of New Berlin; 30 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son, William Stanley Farmer; three brothers, Ed Raleigh; Benjamin Raleigh Jr.; and Raymond Raleigh; one sister, Virginia Raleigh. Mrs. Farmer had worked as a psychiatric nurse aid at the Jacksonville State Hospital and owned Rosedale and Farmer's Sheltered Care Homes for 30 years. She was a member of the Church of Our Saviour, Explorer’s Bible Study, Catholic Daughters of America, the Altar and Rosary Society, Our Saviour Quilting Club; Toastmasters and Women of the Moose. She was a volunteer with the TEAL Tutoring Program through Lincoln Land Community College and at Passavant Area Hospital. Her highest priorities were her faith and family. She was a loving and devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She enjoyed playing games with her grandchildren, square dancing, and country music. She was well known in the community for her special gifts of compassion and generosity offered to others in need. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 7, 2005, at the Church of Our Savior in Jacksonville with burial at Jacksonville East Cemetery. Friends may call after 3 p.m. on Friday at Williamson Funeral Home with the family to meet friends from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. A prayer service will be conducted at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. Memorials are suggested to the Church of Our Saviour of Hospice Care of Illinois-Central, Jacksonville Branch. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.airsman-hires.com.

Lillian Hazel Beal
BEAL, Lillian Hazel — Age 104, of Roseburg, Oregon, went to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on February 2, 2006. Lillian was born to George Washington Tucker and Mamie Anne (Rice) Tucker on August 15, 1901, in the Rural area near Anna III. She and her family were very proud of their Cherokee heritage. She grew up mostly in Missouri and lived and worked at the family’s boarding house. She was 15 when she married Otto Ash and they had two daughters, Hazel and Ruby, then divorced. Back at the boarding house she met and married Wallace (Bum) Ewing Wilson they had four daughters, Fairy, Oretta, Viola, Donna, and one son, Jim. She lived in Missouri, Colorado, California, Michigan and Oregon. The family traveled wherever Bum could find work as a pipe fitter or heavy equipment operator. Times were hard during the depression years but wherever they lived she would make it home. Lillian was a wonderful wife, mom and grandma. She loved to waltz in her younger years with her loving husband, Bum. She loved to cook and clean and mend and hand sew whatever she could find. She enjoyed making pie crust, apple pies and cobblers, big kettles of beans, potato soup and homemade buns and bread. Food wasn’t always plentiful but she would always make due. Lillian made sure no one went hungry. In 1975, many years after Bum had passed away, she married Ben Beal of Roseburg. They were only married for a short time before he passed away. She lived with family and her final home was in Green, Oregon, with her granddaughter, LaDona Noyes and her husband, Dan. She had always been our family tie. She will be greatly missed. Lillian is survived by her daughter, Fairy Van Housen of Ukiah, California; son-in-law, Clarence “Whitey” Kelm of Sutherlin, Oregon; 18 grandchildren, Connie, Lesley, Aaron and Curtis of California; Jim and his wife, Janet Van Housen; Marc and his wife, Geannie Van Housen of California; LaDona Noyes and her husband, Dan; Ronda Malone and her husband, Dave; Wade and his wife, Debbie Hogg, all of Roseburg; Allen Klesinger of Colorado; Deborah Klesinger of Colorado; Terry Daniels of Montana; Trudy and her husband, Rick Maenza of Oregon City, Oregon; Victor Kelm and his wife, Kathy of Sutherlin; Diana and her husband, Steve Lawrence of Winston; Martin Kelm and his wife, Terry of Sutherlin; Lori and her husband, Joe Falls of Roseburg; Cheryl (Renee) and her husband, Andy Kuntzen of Winston; 31 great-grandchildren; 38 great-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-great-grandchild. She lived through her sixth generation through her daughter, Fairy and grandson, Jim Van Housen. She was preceded in death by her parents; her twin brother, James; sisters, Esther and Edna; husband, Bum; husband Ben; daughters, Oretta Richardson; Ruby Adams; Viola Miller; Donna Kelm; Hazel Zimmerman; son, Jim Wilson; son-in-law, Neal Van Housen; daughter-in-law, Gloria Wilson; granddaughter, Sandra Hogg; and grandson, Grant Kelm. Services will be held at the Winston Foursquare Gospel Center, 540 SE Main St., at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 11, 2006. Eulogy will be done by Karen Iovin, a Chaplain of Hospice.

Timothy ‘Tim’ Adam Morgan
MORGAN, Timothy “Tim” Adam — Age 30, of Roseburg, Oregon, passed away on Monday, February 6, 2006, after a courageous battle with cancer. Tim was born on January 23, 1976, in Portland, Oregon, but lived most of his life in the Roseburg area. Tim was united in marriage to Robin on October 19, 2003. He loved the Lord and pursued faith in the face of great adversity. He loved his family and his daughter, Hope, was the apple of his eye. Tim spent some time in the late 1990’s in Puerto Rico, Mississippi, and in Texas working for a disaster relief company. Tim was an ordained minister and he oversaw the Faith House, of Faith House Ministries. He volunteered as the Douglas County Jail Chaplain and as Santa for the Roseburg Rescue Mission’s Christmas party for children. Tim had an adventurous spirit and was an avid outdoors man. He had a gift for hunting and fishing. It’s been said he could catch a fish out of a mud puddle. Tim took many trips to Winchester Bay, Snake River and in 2004 he took a fishing trip to Alaska. He also loved to be on the North Umpqua and spent many early mornings on the “Rock” at the Narrows in Glide, Oregon. Tim lived a full life and in 30 years experienced a lifetime of joy and adventure. He was a member of the Body of Christ and had been associated with Liberty Christian Fellowship and Gateway Faith Center. Tim coached women’s and men’s church softball league, enjoyed golfing and took flying lessons. He was a devoted Seattle Seahawks fan. Tim is survived by his wife, Robin Morgan; daughter, Hope Morgan; step-son, Kyle Gaylor; parents, Dennis and Christine Morgan; brother, Jason Morgan; sister, Amanda Todd; special niece, Chelsea Morgan; brother and sister-in-law, Audrey and Jerry Polling and their children, Josh and Brittany Polling; mother-in-law, Mary Blevins; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Tim was preceded in death by his grandparents, Roscoe and Cora Slaven; Lester and Marge Morgan; uncle, Arnold; and special friends, Cory Cummings and James Williams. Funeral services will be held at Gateway Faith Center, 1643 SE Jackson St., on Saturday, February 11, 2006, at 9 a.m., followed by graveside services at Lookingglass Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to help with expenses may be made at WILSON’S CHAPEL OF THE ROSES, on Harvard Ave. Tim touched many lives as he demonstrated his strength, faith and courage with exemplary grace and passion. As Tim has gone to be with the Lord, we hear the echoes of Heaven, “Well done my good and faithful servant.”
