Larry E. Palmer
PALMER, Larry E. – Age 66, of Helix, Oregon, passed away on Saturday, July 29, 2006, of Cancer at his home. A memorial service will be held at the Burns Mortuary Chapel on Saturday, August, 5, 2006, at 11 a,m. Larry Palmer was born on December 7, 1939, in Yoncalla, Oregon, to Elmer and Ilah (Kelso) Palmer. He was raised in Yoncalla where he graduated from Yoncalla High School. Mr. Palmer married Margaret Casey on December, 21, 2001, in Pendleton, Oregon.
He was a farmer in the local area, and was employed by Davis Ranches and Quantum 9 in Helix. Mr. Palmer was also a member of the Liars Club of Helix. Larry Palmer loved to hunt and fish, and had a particular fondness for his mules. He was a devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Larry Palmer was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer “Tom” and Ilah Palmer. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Palmer, at the home in Helix; his children, Jim Palmer of Yoncalla; Bill Palmer of Weiser, Idaho; Kimi Morris of Pendleton; Dundee Dunfee of Pilot Rock, Oregon; Jackie Berthold of Bend, Oregon; David Dahl of Pendleton; Michelle Myers of Alachua, Florida; one brother, Guy Palmer; as well as 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Contributions in memory of Larry Palmer, may be made to St. Anthony Hospice, 1601 SE Court Avenue, Pendleton, OR 97801. Burns Mortuary of Pendleton is in charge of arrangements.

Shirley Jean Rauschert
RAUSCHERT, Shirley Jean — A celebration of the life of Bandon, Oregon, resident, Shirley Jean Rauschert, will be held at 4 p.m., on Friday, August 4, 2006, at Pacific Community Church in Bandon with committal services to follow at Denmark Cemetery in Langlois, Oregon. Shirley was born on April 15, 1937, in Elk City, Oklahoma, the daughter of Lawrence and Opal Redd. She passed away on Sunday, July 30, 2006, in Bandon at the age of 69. She moved with her family as a child to Washington then to Winston, Oregon, where she was raised and educated.While in Winston, she met and married John Rauschert. They lived in Roseburg, Oregon, Winston, then Eugene, Oregon, before moving to Bandon where they ran the Rauschert Ranch for John’s parents. They moved into Bandon in 1976 to the home John and their son, Jim, built.
She was an active member of the Pacific Community Church, always there, always ministering and serving. Her greatest devotion was to her Lord Jesus Christ then her family as a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her home was always open to missionaries and to family. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, John: son, Jim and his wife, Toni Rauschert of Junction City; daughter, Missy and her husband, Mark Hagopian of Reddley, California; son, Christopher Calbo of Coquille, Oregon; grandchildren, Tyler; Ryan; Cory; Kayla; Brad and Lisa; sisters, Virgie White of Winston; Linda Perine of Bandon; along with several nieces, nephews and “adopted children”. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Terry. The family suggests memorials may be made, to Pacific Community Church, 48967 Hwy 101, Bandon, OR 97411. Arrangements are under the direction of Amling Schroeder Funeral Service in Bandon.

Virginia Kathleen Ault
AULT, Virginia Kathleen — Passed away early in the morning on July 30, 2006, in her sleep. She was 59 years old. Kathy had been resident in Douglas County for many years. She moved to Oregon in the early 1970’s from California with her two young sons, Mark and Brandy. Kathy dedicated her life to raising her sons. She seemed the happiest when she was caring and looking after them. Over the years Kathy made many friends she cherished and who cherished her. She was known in her close knit of friends as “the center of the community”. Her family will deeply mourn her passing, especially her two sons who grew into adulthood nurtured by her love and affection.
Kathy is survived by her brother, Floyd Ault and his wife, Maria of Sutherlin, Oregon; brother, Raymond Ault and his wife, Sachiko of Anderson, California; sister, Carla Turner and her husband, Cliff of Devon, England; sons, Mark Garcia and Brandy Garcia and his wife, Sandra, all from Myrtle Creek, Oregon; grandchildren, Meagan Garcia ; Marci Garcia and Larry Garcia all of Myrtle Creek; Mitchell Garcia of St. Helens, Oregon; Mackenzie Deross of Albany; nephews, Richard Kvistad of Coos Bay, Oregon; David Kvistad of Portland, Oregon; nieces, Angela Bickers of Reno, Nevada; and Marcy Garcia of Myrtle Creek. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Golda Ault. WILSON’S CHAPEL OF THE ROSES assisted the family.

Leonard Boyd
BOYD, Leonard — Of Winter Haven, Florida, formerly of Dillard, Oregon, passed away on Saturday, July 15, 2006, at Good Shepherd Hospice, in Auburndale, Florida. He was 74 years old. He was born on July 18, 1931, in Eunice, New Mexico. Mr. Boyd moved to Winter Haven from Dillard in 1995. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked as a self-employed timber faller. He attended Central Church of Christ, in Winter Haven.
Mr. Boyd is survived by his wife, Donna Boyd; daughter, Colleen White of St. Johns, Michigan; sons, David Boyd of Bend, Oregon; Randy Boyd of Glenpool, Oklahoma; Carl Boyd of Madras, Oregon; brothers, Bobby Boyd of Midland, Texas; Floyd Boyd of Winston, Oregon; sisters, Ruby Nell Boyd of Winston; Murldeen Walters of Coleman, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren; one great-granddaughter. Services will be held at 11 a.m., on Tuesday at the Central Church of Christ, in Winter Haven. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Honduras Mission Fund, Central Church of Christ, 142 Ave. C S.W., Winter Haven. Ott-Laughlin Funeral Home, Auburndale.

Gary ‘Charlie’ Weaver
WEAVER, Gary “Charlie” — Died in a river accident near Elkton, Oregon, on Thursday, July 27, 2006. Charlie was born on August 4, 1966, in Corvallis, Oregon, and was a resident of Scio, Oregon. He attended Crescent Valley and graduated from Central Linn High School. Charlie farmed and also operated the family seed-cleaning warehouse for several years before going to work for the government. Charlie worked for the USDA Fish & Wildlife Service Dept. For eight years he owned and operated Alaska River Pro’s fishing guide service out of Kaligniak, Alaska, on the Nushagak River. Charlie had a love for the outdoors that was evident to all who knew him. His hobbies included fishing and bird hunting. He spent a lot of time teaching fishing skills to many young kids from Oregon and Alaska. He was regularly found in the company of great friends and his best friend, Ty Raschein. Charlie is survived by his parents, Gary and Andy Weaver; brother, Chadd and his wife, Tricia; niece, Taylor; nephew, Austin; sister, Tori Graham and her husband, Steve; nieces, Riley and Paige; many aunts, uncles, cousins and too many friends to count. Grandparents Hugh and Nadyne Dickson of Shedd; Gilbert and Mary of Brownsville preceded Charlie in death. A memorial service will be held at the Linn County Search and Rescue (SAR) Camp on Saturday, August 5, 2006, at 11 a.m.
The family would like to invite you to a BBQ & potluck following the service. Please bring either a salad or dessert and good memories to share. The money will be used to build a new kitchen for the camp and will be named “Charlie’s Kitchen” in his memory. Naomi

Ernestine ‘Ernie’ Pollack
POLLACK, Naomi Ernestine “Ernie” — Age 65, of Roseburg, Oregon, passed away on Thursday July 27, 2006, in a local hospital. She was born on December 6, 1940, in Little Rock, Arkansas, to B.C. and Naomi C. Quinn. On August 31, 1958, in Yuma, Arizona, she married Frank R. Pollack. The Pollack's lived in Chicago, Illinois, and moved to Arizona in 1963 and eventually settled in Phoenix, Arizona, in 1971. Ernie moved from Phoenix to Roseburg in February of this year. She enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles, playing board games and working in her garden. Ernie was a free spirited jokester who loved to laugh and was the life of the party.
She loved people and will be missed by many. Survivors include her mother, Naomi Quinn of Roseburg; daughters, Toni Pollack of Florida; Karen Pollack of Nevada; sons, Greg Pollack of Arizona; Robin Pollack of Ohio; sisters, Anna Frazier; Dale Riggle and her husband, Bret, all of Roseburg; brothers, Chuck Quinn and his wife, Suzie of Yuma; Jim Quinn and his wife, Connie of Arizona; John Quinn and his wife, Ellen of Arizona; grandchildren, Eddie Haranzo; Shannon Laird; Jeremy Pollack; Alyssa Pollack; Alan Pollack and Samantha Pollack. Ernie was preceded in death by her father, B.C. Quinn in December 1989 and her husband, Frank Pollack on September 2, 2001. Private family services will be held at a later date. Private cremation rites have been held. WILSON'S CHAPEL OF THE ROSES is in charge of arrangements.

Lillian F. Cowles
COWLES, Lillian F. — Age 64, of Sutherlin, Oregon, passed away on Sunday, July 30, 2006. A memorial service will be held at First Assembly of God on Central Ave. in Sutherlin on Sunday, August 6, 2006, at 3 p.m. Lillian Cowles was born on February 15, 1942, in Springfield, Massachusetts. She was the youngest of five children. Lillian enjoyed spending time with her family and could be your best friend if you let her. She lived in the Vallejo, California, area for many years where she married twice, had two sons and three step-children and spent much of her time caring for the ones she loved. Her hobbies included arts, crafts, and square dancing.
After her husband, Charles retired in the 1990’s, the pair belonged to a RV club where they traveled throughout the U.S. in the motor home, visiting loved ones and having many adventures. She had been a resident of Sutherlin since 2003. Lillian was a devout member of the First Assembly of God, enjoyed being involved in the “Red Hats” Lady Club and attending many functions with her friends at the local SKP Park where she lived. She is survived by her loving husband, Charles; son, John Bowman and his wife, Deanna; step-children, Charles, Kenny and Cathy Cowles of California; grandsons, Eddie and Jake Diego.

Mary Merceil Chandler
CHANDLER, Mary Merceil — Age 81, passed away at her home on Little River in Glide, Oregon, on August 9, 2006. She was born on July 8, 1925, at home on a library table, to parents, Elmer James and Clara Merceil (England) Hilden. She was raised and educated in Vasaille, California, where she was a member of a Drum and Bugle Corps and played the violin. She married on January 15, 1944, to Jay Melbourne Chandler, Jr. and moved to Siletz, Oregon, moving to Glide, in the summer of 1956. Mary enjoyed the outdoors, working in her garden and flower beds and taking classes at Umpqua Community College where she received an AS degree in Secretarial Science, AA in Social Psychology and CNA certification. While raising her family she was a Cub Scout Den Mother for Glide Pack #112, Jacks and Jill's 4-H leader, A Sunday School Teacher and a Secretary/Treasurer for Little River Community Church and a member of the VFW. Her work experience included: Assistant, Douglas County Senior Services, Secretarial Aide Umpqua Community College, PRN Parents Relief Society, Front Office Receptionist for C.C. Brown, MD, CNA for Rose Haven Nursing Home, Night Attendant for Chapel of the Roses, Umpqua Valley Arts Association Secretary/Receptionist, Wolf Creek Job Corps Center, Secretarial/ Receptionist, Occupancy Clerk at Housing Authority of Douglas County, Secretary at Roseburg Senior High School, Deputy Clerk for Douglas County Government and presently worked for Glide High School District Administration Office as an Office Assistant.
She was a daughter, mother, grandmother and friend to all who knew her. She leaves four children, Victoria "Vicky" Louise Sabean Wolff; Dale "Lucky" Eugene Chandler; Melody Gaye Burdette and Joseph Jay Chandler; eleven grandchildren and a five great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her former husband, Jay Melbourne Chandler, Jr. of Yoncalla, Oregon; her parents, Elmer James Hilden and Clara Merceil England; grandparents, Joseph Roberson England and Luella Hamilton; brother, James Albert Hilden; grandson, Gregory Alan Sabean and granddaughter, Suzanna Lynette Chandler. There will be a public viewing on Saturday, August 19, 2006, from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Wilson's Chapel of the Roses in Roseburg, Oregon. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at Pine Grove Community Church 1729 Buckhorn Rd., Roseburg, Oregon, on Sunday August 20, 2006, at 5:30 p.m. Graveside Service to be held on Monday, August 21, 2006, at Wimberly Cemetery in Glide, Oregon, on Little River Road at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Curt Christen officiating. Wilson's Chapel of the Roses is in charge of arrangements.

Earnest Peel
PEEL, Earnest — Of Sutherlin,Oregon, passed away on Monday, August 14, 2006, after a long struggle with cancer.
Earnest was 84 years old.
He was born in Perry, Iowa, on August 4, 1922.
He served 4 years in the Marine Corps during WWII and married Ramona Cottingham immediately upon his return to Perry in 1945.
They moved to Roseburg, Oregon, with their three children in 1954.
Ernie worked at Tozer’s Sheet Metal beginning as an apprentice and becoming part owner by his retirement in 1984.
He is survived by his wife, Ramona; daughter, Holly Graham; two sons, and their wives; John and Nancy Peel; Albert and Sheryl Peel.
He also is survived by six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and 2 siblings, Dwight Peel and Millie Parker.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2006, at 2 p.m., at Long and Shukle Memorial Chapel, 809 Pine St. Roseburg.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until noon on Saturday, August 19, 2006, at Long and Shukle 541-672-2611.
In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations be made to Mercy Home Health/Hospice.

Jose Alfredo Duarte
DUARTE, Jose Alfredo — Age 95, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, August 12, 2006. Born to Louis and Aurelia Duarte on April 27, 1911, in Penjamillo, Michuacan, Mexico. He attended grade school and graduated from the Penjamillo High School. In 1939, Alfredo met Eva Baez and they married. Alfredo worked hard as a farmer. For many years he farmed garbanzo beans, corn and wheat. He and Eva raised seven wonderful children. Alfredo and his family suffered a terrible loss in 1959, when his wife preceded him in death. In 1975, Alfredo moved his family to Salem, Oregon, where he worked side by side with his eldest son, Gilberto. They owned and operated the “Los Baez: Restaurant. In 1983, the two moved their restaurant business to Roseburg and opened Gilberto’s. Alfredo loved nothing more than working with his son as his right hand man. He was the most wonderful father, grandfather, uncle and brother anyone could wish for Alfredo set a great example for all generations to follow. He was a very devoted Catholic and attended St. Joseph Catholic Church. Alfredo enjoyed playing soccer with his children and grandchildren.
He could sill compete at 70 years old. Survivors include his seven children, Maria Elena Duarte of Roseburg, Oregon; Louis and his wife, Amelia Duarte; Soroco and her husband, Ramon, all of Penjamillo, Mexico; Gilberto and his wife, Lupe of Roseburg; Ofelia and her husband, Florencio Gomez of Mexico City, Mexico; Aurelia and her husband, Ignacio Hernadez of Roseburg; And Lupita and her husband, Juan of Penjamillo.
Alfredo also leaves behind 23 grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
He was also proceeded in death by his parents, Louis and Eva Duarte, and his favorite grandson, Anthony Duarte.
Alfredo Duarte was truly loved by his family and will be missed by all.
Those who wish may pay their respects on Wednesday, August 16, 2006, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Wilson’s Chapel of the Roses.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, August 17, 2006, at 12:10 p.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Father Elwin Schwab Celebrant, a grave side service will follow at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. WILSON’S CHAPEL OF THE ROSES is in charge of the services.

Cash Clarence Hileman
HILEMAN, Cash Clarence — Age 78, of Roseburg, Oregon, passed away on Saturday, August 12, 2006. He was born on July 15, 1928, in Eugene, Oregon, the son of John and Edith (Goddard) Hileman. He married the love of his life, Delores Brissette on April 27, 1963, in Reno, Nevada. Cash, was a member of the Lumber and Sawmill workers local 2949. He worked in mills since the age of 15. He retired from Roseburg Forest Products after 19 years…”moonlighting between RFP and another mill both fulltime to support his large family until he was caught Ha! Ha!” He enjoyed ocean fishing, especially with his son, Daniel Rowlett and brother-in-law, Kedrick Brissette.
He also enjoyed camping with his family, woodworking, hunting for deer and elk “and the floorboards of Suzuki Samari’s.”
Cash’s gardens fed the entire neighborhood and he was a man of many trades and a master of them all, so he said.
He is survived by his wife, Delores, of 43 years; children, Harold Hileman and his wife, Gale; Sandra Daubert and her husband, Craig; Daniel Rowlett and his wife, Janet Nathan Rowlett and his wife, Jeannie; Vicky Owen and her family; Charlie Owen and his family; Carey Pulver and her husband, Darrin and Toby Hileman and his wife, Robyn; brother, Robert Hileman and his wife, Lois; sister, Bernice Coleman and her husband, Allen; sisters-in-law’, Viola Hileman and Joanne Farrow; brothers-in-law, Kedrick Brissette and his wife, Bev and Larry Brissette and his wife, Penny; 27 plus grandchildren and 27 plus great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; son’s, Larry Hileman and Ken Hileman; daughter, Pamela Rowlett; brother, Rolath Hileman; sister-in-law, Donna Gilham; grandson, Chris Hileman; brother-in-law, Jerry Brissette; mother and fathers-in-law, Edward ‘Ed’ and Dorothea ‘Dot’ Brissette and his beloved dog ‘Penny’. A Memorial Reception will be held on Saturday, August 19, 2006, at 12 p.m. at the Winston Community Center.
Officiating will be Pastor Johnny Hicks. All family and friends are welcome. Arrangements are under the direction of Taylor’s Family Chapel.
