Chester Miskowiec

Sept. 20, 1945 - March 19, 2001

Chester "Mick" Miskowiec Jr., 55, of Corvallis died Monday at home of cancer of the liver. His wife and sons were with him when he died.

He was born in Corvallis, attended St. Mary's School, Highland View Junior High School and Corvallis High School, where he graduated in 1963. His high school sweetheart was Mary Copeland, and he married her in August of 1966.

Mr. Miskowiec lived in Corvallis throughout his life. He had worked at the family owned business, Mick's Glass Service, since age 16.

Mr. Miskowiec enjoyed working outdoors around the house, including bedding plants, making driveways, laying brick and remodeling. He was an avid collector of cartoon and character glasses, and he and his wife had hoped to take some antique collecting trips when he retired.

Surviving are sons Victor of Portland and Mark of Corvallis; father Chester Sr. of Corvallis; sisters Teresa Miskowiec of Albany and Judith Fredrich of Tacoma, Wash. His mother died in 1998 and sister Katya died in 1967.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, at McHenry Funeral Home, with Father John Henderson officiating. A private inurnment service will be at Oak Lawn Memorial Park.

Contributions in his name may be made to Benton Hospice Service, in care of McHenry Funeral Home, 206 N.W. Fifth St., Corvallis, Ore. 97330.

Robert Thompson

Oct. 28, 1924 - March 19, 2001

Robert Forrester Thompson, 76, of Albany died Monday at home.

An Albany native, Mr. Thompson was the son of Arthur and Helen (Federmeyer) Thompson. He lived in Albany throughout his life. In 1941 he was on Albany's first American Legion softball team.

He married Karen Christensen on Nov. 24, 1976, in Vancouver, Wash.

After serving in the Navy during World War II, he worked for Simpson Plywood and then for James River Corp at Halsey. In Albany he belonged to the First Christian Church, the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars posts, and the Elks and Eagles lodges.

A sports enthusiast, Mr. Thompson enjoyed all sports and especially liked golf, football and softball. He was a yardage marker at West Albany football games for 20 years.

He loved animals and liked spending time with friends and taking trips to the coast.

Surviving are wife Karen and sister Nancy Willcox of Juneau, Alaska.

Viewing will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Fisher Funeral Home. Mr. Thompson's funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, followed by burial at Willamette Memorial Park.

Ralph Vander Platt

March 19, 1930 - March 18, 2001

Ralph Vander Platt, 70, of Corvallis died of cancer Sunday at home.

He was born in Garfield, New Jersey, to Abram and Alice (Lendick) Vander Platt.

He attended school in Patterson, N.J., and enlisted in the Air Force in August of 1951.

He married Jessie Heerschap on Dec. 28, 1951 in Haledon, N.J.

They lived 43 years in Tucson, Ariz., and moved to Corvallis in 1992, to be near family members.

Mr. Vander Platt served in the Air Force in the Philippines during the Korean War and was discharged in August of 1955.

He was a custodian at the University of Arizona before he retired.

He was a baseball fan and belonged to the Calvin Presbyterian Church.

He enjoyed working puzzles, singing and attending his grandsons' sporting events.

Surviving are wife Jessie; daughter Brenda Bremer of Corvallis; sister Doris Eberhardt of Mobile, Ala.; and grandsons Garren, Matt and Bryan. Sister Ruth Rietveld preceded him in death.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Calvin Presbyterian Church, with Pastor Marc Andresen officiating. A private inurnment service will be at the Willamette National cemetery in Portland.

Ruth Mundorf

May 24, 1911 - March 21, 2001

Former Albany resident Ruth Mundorf, 89, of McMinnville died Wednesday.

She was born in Paige, Neb., to Oscar and Nellie (Ernest) Leisy.

She grew up on a farm near Valentine, Neb.

She married George Mundorf on March 31, 1933, in Winner, S.D., and they moved to Rickreall in 1934, to Lacomb in 1942 and to Albany in 1948.

Mr. Mundorf died Dec. 18, 1965.

Mrs. Mundorf lived in Albany for more than 50 years, and had worked for Albany Frozen Foods for 15 years.

She was a member of the Albany First Baptist Church.

She moved to McMinnville last October.

Surviving are daughter Thelma Nelson of McMinnville; brother Floyd Leisy of Valentine, Neb.; sister Mae Nelson of Albany; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by daughter Theresa Woodside, brother Earl Leisy and sister Ethel Irene Smith.

Visitation will be from noon to 3 p.m. Sunday at Fisher Funeral Home.

A graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Waverly cemetery in Albany.
