Earlene (Brown) Anna Wickham
Aug. 8, 1926 - March 29, 2001

Earlene (Brown) Anna Wickham of Redmond died Thursday of natural causes. She was 74.

At her request no formal services will be held, but a private family gathering will be held.

Mrs. Wickham was born Aug. 8, 1926, in New Mexico to Sterling and Mary (Mauterr) Brown.

She retired from the Bay Area Hospital in Coos Bay at the age of 63 after working in the housekeeping department.

She moved to Redmond three years ago.

Mrs. Wickham was a member of the Ladies VFW Auxiliary and the Eagles, both in Coos Bay.

She enjoyed crocheting, playing pool and enjoyed people.

Survivors include her son, Stanford Buell of Redmond; daughter, Sandra Key of Florida; brother, Charles Brown of Rio Rancho, N.M.; and one grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Wickham.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Ladies VFW Auxiliary in Coos Bay.

Autumn Funerals is in charge of arrangements.

Norman Bennett
April 5, 1944 - March 22, 2001

Norman Bennett of Toledo died March 22 of emphysema at Pacific Communities Hospital in Newport. He was 56.

Private family graveside services are planned. Interment will be at Logan Family cemetery.

Mr. Bennett was born April 5, 1944, in Marshalltown, Iowa.

He served in the Army and attended Central Oregon Community College.

He lived in Redmond until moving to Toledo to be near his son.

Mr. Bennett enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf.

Survivors include two sons, Jason Bennett and Jerrod Brown, both of Toledo; 11 brothers and sisters; and five grandchildren.

Bateman Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Robert R. Jenkins
Jan. 5, 1925 - March 10, 2001

Robert R. Jenkins of Christmas Valley died March 10, 2001. He was 76.

Graveside services were held at Deschutes Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Jenkins was born Jan. 5, 1925, in Lusk, Wyo.

He served in the Army in France during World War II.

Mr. Jenkins lived in Bend for almost 30 years and was a retired timber faller. He had also worked at a logging company in Sisters.

He belonged to the Eagles and Moose in Bend.

Mr. Jenkins enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was a marksman.

Survivors include his sister, Mary Fagan of Smith River, Calif.; and brother, Raymond of Lusk, Wyo.

Deschutes Memorial Gardens was in charge of arrangements.

Donald Dean Smith
Dec. 10, 1927 - March 31, 2001

Donald Dean Smith of Bend died Saturday of natural causes. He was 73.

Mr. Smith was born Dec. 10, 1927, in Lyman, Idaho to Richard and Lorena (McQuarrie) Smith. He grew up and attended schools in Sugar City, Idaho.

After his education he joined the Army and later the Air Force, serving in World War II and the Korean Conflict.

Mr. Smith worked for 30 years as an employee relations manager for General Electric in Cape Kennedy at the Space Center in Boston, and also in the Bay Area in California, retiring in 1984. He then moved to Bend.

He married his wife Janice on Nov. 25, 1980, in Saratoga, Calif.

Mr. Smith was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Bend.

He enjoyed archaeology, history and working on the computer.

Survivors include his wife, Janice of Bend; two sons, Randall of St. George, Utah and Dana of Aptos, Calif.; two daughters, Janet Metz of Santa Cruz, Calif., and Sandra Kanoff of Bend; brother, Darrell of Idaho Falls, Idaho; and 12 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Richard.

Prineville Funeral Home and Wood Funeral Home are in charge of arrangements.

Alice Margaret (Johnson) Northrop
July 7, 1906 - April 2, 2001

Alice Margaret (Johnson) Northrop of La Pine died Monday of natural causes. She was 94.

At her request, no services will be held.

Mrs. Northrop was born July 7, 1906, in Chicago, Ill., to Nels and Alis Johnson. The family moved to Los Angeles, Calif., in 1918.

She married L. Russell Northrop in Sept. 1927. He died in 1981.

She moved to La Pine in 1986.

Mrs. Northrop was a homemaker and member of the P.E.O. in Los Angeles.

She was accomplished in needlework and culinary skills.

Survivors include her son, Russell of La Pine; daughter, Patricia Northrop Marks of La Pine; and two grandchildren.

Edna O. Skjersaa
Aug. 22, 1907 - March 29, 2001

Edna O. Skjersaa of Bend died Thursday at her home. She was 93.

The visitation will be held from 1 to 7 p.m. today at Niswonger, Reynolds & Tabor Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Lutheran Church in Bend. Pastor Joel K. LiaBraaten will officiate. Entombment will follow at Greenwood Memorial cemetery Mausoleum.

Mrs. Skjersaa was born Aug. 22, 1907, in Portland to Delvin and Thea (Tweet) Ogle. She moved to Bend at an early age and graduated from Bend High School in 1926.

Following high school, she went to work as a stenographer for J. Upton's law office in Bend and at the Brooks-Scanlon mill. She also worked with the Civil Air Patrol and the U.S. Government Rationing Board during World War II.

She married Nils Skjersaa on Dec. 31, 1931, in Bend. He died in 1977.

Mrs. Skjersaa also worked at Carl Erickson's Grocery Store in Bend before helping to start Rose Pharmacy in 1957 with her son-in-law. She worked there for many years until retiring in 1981, though she remained active as a delivery person at the pharmacy until 1990.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church. She was pioneer queen for the Deschutes County Pioneer Association and was a lifetime member of the Sons of Norway. She was the Sons of Norway's first female president.

Mrs. Skjersaa enjoyed foot races as a child and she had enjoyed skiing with her husband. She also enjoyed basketball, hiking, camping and bowling. She was an accomplished musician on the piano and organ and had played the organ for more than 20 years at First Lutheran Church. She also enjoyed playing pinochle and spending time with her family, grandchildren and friends.

Survivors include two daughters, Marcia Rose of Bend and Clara Gilliland of Chehalis, Wash.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and a sister, Myrtle Ballantyne.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Lutheran Church, 213 NW Idaho, Bend 97701, or to Central Oregon Hospice, 2698 NE Courtney, Bend 97701.

Marjorie H. (White) Whiteley
April 16, 1903 - March 31, 2001

Marjorie H. (White) Whiteley of Terrebonne died Saturday of natural causes. She was 97.

Viewing will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Redmond Memorial Chapel. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Redmond Christian Church. Interment will follow at the Riverside cemetery in Payette, Idaho.

Ms. Whiteley was born April 16, 1903, to Joseph and Emma (Wilson) White in Payette, Idaho.

She married Isaac C. Whiteley Feb. 21, 1921, and they divorced in 1976. They lived in Idaho, Washington, Oregon and California before retiring and making their home in Redmond.

Ms. Whiteley was a member of the Redmond Christian Church and a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star.

Survivors include one daughter, Marilyn Blume of Redmond; one son, Roland of Mount Angel; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Redmond Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

George Merritt Aagaard
May 28, 1920 - March 25, 2001

George Merritt Aagaard of Redmond died of natural causes March 25. He was 80.

A private service will be held.

Mr. Aagaard was born May 28, 1920, in Brush, Colo.

He was an auto mechanic as well as the owner and operator of Gran Prix Motors. He retired in 1977.

He married Lois Ohlsen in 1943, in Los Angeles. She died in 1959. He then married Miriam Kersgaard in 1961, in Cottage Grove. She died in 1992.

Mr. Aagaard played the trumpet for Lawrence Welk Radio and was a member of the Eugene Gleemen. He was also a North American test pilot as well as a race-car driver and mechanic.

He lived in Redmond for almost two years.

Survivors include three sons, John of Junction City, Jim of Madison, Wis., and Dane of Seattle; seven daughters, Sandy Chapin of Redmond, Audrey Ciasullo of Moreno Valley, Calif., Jorgine Cummings of Beaverton, Kathy Birdwhistle of Salem, Gail Scott of Truckee, Calif., Sloan Aagaard of Dallas, Ore., and Gretchen Shively of Mount Pleasant, Mich.; and one sister, Louella Fredrickson of Elkhorn, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandchild.

Redmond Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
