Edna O. Skjersaa
Aug. 22, 1907 - March 29, 2001
Edna O. Skjersaa of Bend died Thursday at her home. She was 83.
The visitation will be held from 1 to 7 p.m. Monday at Niswonger, Reynolds & Tabor Funeral Home. The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Luth-eran Church in Bend. Pastor Joel K. LiaBraaten will officiate. Entombment will follow at Greenwood Memorial cemetery Mausoleum.
Mrs. Skjersaa was born Aug. 22, 1907, in Portland to Delvin and Thea (Tweet) Ogle. She moved to Bend at an early age and graduated from Bend High School in 1926.
Following high school, she went to work as a stenographer for J. Upland's law office in Bend and at the Brooks-Scanlon mill. She also worked with the Civil Air Patrol and the U.S. Government Rationing Board during World War II.
She married
Nils Skjersaa on Dec. 31, 1931, in Bend. He died in 1977.
Mrs. Skjersaa also worked at Carl Erickson's Grocery Store in Bend before helping to start Rose Pharmacy in 1957 with her son-in-law. She worked there for many years until retiring in 1981, though she remained active as a delivery person at the pharmacy until 1990.
She was a member of First Lutheran Church. She was pioneer queen for the Deschutes County Pioneer Association and was a lifetime member of the Sons of Norway. She was the Sons of Norway's first female president.
Mrs. Skjersaa enjoyed foot races as a child and she enjoyed skiing with her husband. She also enjoyed basketball, hiking, camping and bowling. She was an accomplished musician on the piano and organ and had played the organ for more than 20 years at First Lutheran Church. She also enjoyed playing pinochle and spending time with her family, grandchildren and friends.
Survivors include two daughters, Marcia Rose of Bend and Clara Gilliland of Chehalis, Wash.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and a sister, Myrtle Ballantyne.

Donald Alford Stanley
April 18, 1932 - March 30, 2001
Donald Alford Stanley of Redmond died of cancer Friday. He was 68.
The viewing will be held between 1 and 7 p.m. Monday at Autumn Funerals in Redmond. The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. April 13 at Assembly of God Church in Redmond. He will be buried at Willamette National cemetery in Portland.
Mr. Stanley was born to Alford and Evelyn (Matson) Stanley on April 18 in Kelso, Wash.
His father died at a young age, and his stepfather, George Raappana, raised him.
Mr. Stanley was an assistant chaplain in the Navy at the Monterey, Calif., Naval Station.
He owned a recreational-vehicle dealership in Junction City in the 1970s. He also worked for Western Farmers until retiring in 1981.
Mr. Stanley married
JoAnne LeMar Bennett on May 9, 1981, in Junction City.
He moved to Bend in the early 1990s and then to Redmond.
Mr. Stanley was a member of Assembly of God Church in Redmond and Redmond Chamber of Commerce.
Mr. Stanley enjoyed antique, one-cylinder gas engines and antique trucks.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Ronald Stanley of Eugene; one daughter, Cassandra Stanley of Newport; two stepsons, Arthur Bennett of Casper, Wyo., and the Rev. James Bennett of Coeur d' Alene, Idaho; ex-wife, Shirly (Roberson) Johnston of Junction City; one brother, Larry Raappana of Hilo, Hawaii; one sister, Joanne DuVall of Longview, Wash.; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Gary Stanley.

John Snyder Reeves
Aug. 6, 1910 - March 28, 2001
John Snyder Reeves of Bend died of natural causes Wednesday. He was 90.
No service will be held.
Mr. Reeves was born Aug. 6, 1910, in Little Rock, Ark.
He worked at Johnson Lumber Mill in Toledo.
He married
Pauline Brigham on June 2, 1928, in Toledo.
They moved to Colorado for a year and then returned to Oregon, where they owned a motel and dairy in Bend until 1951. They then moved to Springfield and owned Wegfoot Lanes in Eugene and Springfield Lanes in Springfield. They retired in 1971 and returned to Bend.
Mr. Reeves was a lifetime member of the Springfield Elks Lodge.
He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping. He also enjoyed spending the winter in Arizona.
Survivors include one son, John of Bend; one daughter, Dorothy Centers of McMinnville; 14 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife and 10 brothers and sisters.

Helen Ruth (Welke) Gist
July 10, 1917 - March 28, 2001
Helen Ruth (Welke) Gist of Bend died Wednesday. She was 83.
The graveside service was held today at Pilot Butte cemetery.
Mrs. Gist was born July 10, 1917, in Wisconsin.
She married
Don Gist on July 11, 1948, in the San Fernando Valley in California. He died in 1994.
Mrs. Gist worked as a registered nurse until her retirement.
She was a member of Seventh-day Adventist Church in Sherman Oaks, Calif.
Mrs. Gist gave to many charities, Christian causes and high-school alumni programs.
She had resided in Bend since 1997.
Survivors include one son, John of Bend; one daughter, Cynthia Gist Fletcher of Bend; one sister, Marie Hayslip of Riverside, Calif.; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and one brother.

Elizabeth 'Betty' (Blanchard) Allen
April 1, 1922 - March 27, 2001
Elizabeth 'Betty' (Blanchard) Allen of Bend died Tuesday of natural causes. She was 78.
The service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Granite Hill cemetery, at 2551 Upper River Road in Grants Pass.
Mrs. Allen was born April 1, 1922, in Murphy. She was raised by her father, Harvey Blanchard, and grandmother, Ellen Peelor.
She married
George Buck in Grants Pass. He preceded her in death.
Mrs. Allen bought a consignment store. She was employed first as a fashion sales clerk for I. Magnin in La Jolla, Calif., then in Phoenix, Ariz., and served as a sales consultant in boutiques in Las Vegas, Nev., and Brentwood, Calif. She then moved to Alaska near Prince of Wales Island. After several years she moved to Aberdeen, Wash., and, in 1980, to Bend where she worked at the consignment store, A Second Glance.
She was a lifelong member of Daughters of the American Revolution as well as a member of Beta Sigma Phi and Eastern Star. She also worked for local political organizations.
Mrs. Allen was an avid bowler. She also enjoyed animals and nature.
Survivors include her daughter, Georgia Ackley of Missoula, Mont.; two sons, Steve Buck of Selah, Wash., and Clint Buck of Willow, Alaska; one brother, Tom Blanchard of Grants Pass; one stepsister, Martha Davis of Grants Pass; two stepbrothers, Roy Bayliss of Grants Pass and Jim Bayliss of Palm Springs, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter and a stepbrother.

Pauline Duncan Fisher
Dec. 31, 1925 - March 28, 2001
Pauline Duncan Fisher of Springfield died Wednesday of cancer-related causes. She was 75.
An informal gathering will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at 78 Hamilton Street in Springfield.
Ms. Fisher was born Dec. 31, 1925, in Snow, Okla.
She was employed as a store manager.
Ms. Fisher was a Bend resident for four years before moving to Springfield in 1991.
She enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include her son, Michael of Springfield; daughter, Phyllis Livesey of Murrieta, Calif.; three sisters, Geneva Hall of Bend, Peggy Cole of Springfield and Mary Jane Hoisington of Los Angeles; and two grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Al and Jim Duncan.

Lillian (Peterson) Ralls
Dec. 25, 1919 - March 20, 2001
Lillian (Peterson) Ralls of Redmond died after a long illness on March 20 at her granddaughter's home. She was 81.
A ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 7, at Dry Creek cemetery in Boise.
Mrs. Ralls was born Dec. 25, 1919, in Eagle, Idaho, to Martin 'Ray' and Retta (Ward) Peterson. She attended school through tenth-grade in Star, Idaho.
She married
Max Ralls on Sept. 5, 1936, in Boise, Idaho. He died in 1984.
They lived in Idaho, Montana, Nevada and Hawaii. They settled in Baker City for several years in the 1940s, then moved to Portland in the 1950s.
Mrs. Ralls worked for Omark Industries in Portland for eight years. She and her husband then lived in Klamath Falls in 1967-1984 and retired at Grants Pass. She moved to Redmond in 1999.
She enjoyed her family, gardening, crocheting and playing cards.
Survivors include her granddaughter, 'Chris' Christine Nelson of Redmond; one grandson, Greg Stang of Junction City; five great-grandchildren; and two nephews.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Shirley Stang, a sister, Orpha May Wilson, and her parents.
