Dorothy 'Toni' Louise (Arbuckle) Way
Jan. 10, 1925 - May 22, 2001

Dorothy 'Toni' Louise (Arbuckle) Way of La Pine died of natural causes May 22. She was 76.

No service was held.

Mrs. Way was born Jan. 10, 1925, in Bellevue, Pa. She lived in Pennsylvania until she was 8 years old, and then her family moved to North Hollywood, Calif. She graduated from North Hollywood High School.

She married Charles Way.

They operated two restaurants in Nevada City prior to moving to La Pine in 1982. They were yearly residents of Lava Lake Resort.

She enjoyed her family, friends and cooking.

Survivors include her husband, Charles of La Pine; one daughter, Penney Rockwell of Little Rock, Calif.; three sons, Tenney Way of Kingport, Tenn., Kenneth Beck of Panorama City, Calif., and Chris Beck of Vancouver, Wash.; one sister, Mary Barrows of Solada, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one brother.

Autumn Funerals is in charge of arrangements.

Edwin 'Jay' Jordt
April 4, 1960 - May 27, 2001

Edwin 'Jay' Jordt of La Pine died from a medication reaction Sunday. He was 41.

Upon his wishes, there will be no funeral.

Mr. Jordt was born April 4, 1960.

He was a heavy equipment operator by trade.

A longtime resident of La Pine, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and skiing.

Survivors include his wife, Darlene; one daughter, Jessica; his mother, Barbara of Brookings; one brother, Robert of Porterville, Calif.; and two sisters, Joy Aschoff of Lakeside, Mont., and Becky Hannen of Kalispell, Mont.

He was preceded in death by his father, Edwin.

Litty Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.

Linda E. 'Lou' (Bodda) Sesock
June 10, 1933 - May 25, 2001

Linda E. 'Lou' (Bodda) Sesock of Bend died of natural causes at a local care facility Friday. She was 67.

Viewing will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at Niswonger, Reynolds & Tabor Funeral Home. The graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Deschutes Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Sesock was born June 10, 1933, in Onalaska, Wash.

She was a homemaker.

She married John Sesock on April 12, 1948, in Reno, Nev. He died in 1997.

Mrs. Sesock was a seamstress who enjoyed gardening and crocheting. She also enjoyed her grandchildren and all family activities.

Survivors include three daughters, Theresa Langley of Bend, Sally Harpole of Hampston, Va., and Susan Kirkpatrick of East Wenatchee, Wash.; six sisters, Delberta Vatalaro of Fairfield, Calif., Norma Harding of Sisters, Cynthia Upton and Connie Kyle, both of Cloverdale, Calif., Sybil Philippi of Olympia, Wash., and Anna Reeder of Portland; two brothers, Delbert Bodda of Eureka, Mont., and Harvey Bodda of Stayton; and six grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, Delbert and Florence Bodda, one brother, Robert, and one grandchild.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Bend-La Pine, 1303 NW Galveston, Bend, 97701, or to Compassionate Ministries, c/o The Church of the Nazarene, 1270 NE 27th St., Bend 97701.

Jewel A. (Allen) Marchant
Aug. 18, 1910 - May 29, 2001

Jewel A. (Allen) Marchant of Bend died of natural causes at St. Charles Medical Center on Tuesday. She was 90.

The graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Greenwood Memorial cemetery in Bend.

Mrs. Marchant was born Aug. 18, 1910, in Tulsa, Okla. She graduated from high school in 1929.

She married Dan Marchant on Nov. 12, 1932, in Tulsa County, Okla.

Mrs. Marchant was an active volunteer and member of the Bend Senior Center for 15 years. She also was a member of the Rebekah Lodge for 16 years.

She enjoyed her family, cooking, gardening and visiting with friends.

Survivors include her husband, Dan of Bend; three daughters, Mary Jo Curtis of Denver, Colo., Linda Andreason of Sugar City, Idaho, and Margaret Sebastian of Santee, Calif.; one son, William of La Pine; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and one sister.

Myrtle Leola (Garhart) Poffenbarger
July 24, 1914 - May 29, 2001

Myrtle Leola (Garhart) Poffenbarger of Redmond died at a Bend adult care facility Tuesday. She was 86.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Autumn Funerals in Redmond. The graveside service will follow at 2 p.m. Friday at Terrebonne Pioneer cemetery on Smith Rock Way near Terrebonne. Pastor Glenn Bartnik of First Christian Church in Madras will officiate. The gathering for family and friends will be held after the service at Jack and Jan Poffenbarger's home at 5491 NW Maple in Redmond.

Mrs. Poffenbarger was born July 24, 1914, in Neeley, Neb., to Charles and Bertha (Gates) Garhart. She was raised in Wyoming.

She married Ervin Poffenbarger in Dec. 1931. He died in 1999.

They moved to Lower Bridge near Redmond in 1942, and then moved to Redmond in 1952.

Mrs. Poffenbarger was a former member of the Rebekah Lodge.

She enjoyed gardening and her family.

Survivors include three daughters, Lois Pfister of Hillsboro, Donna Kroeker of Sheridan and Kay Peterson of Forest Grove; three sons, Charles of Pleasanton, Calif., Jack of Redmond and Douglas of Boulder Creek, Calif. 32 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Bend-La Pine.

Thelma Mae (Stults) Lyon
April 18, 1913 - May 30, 2001

Thelma Mae (Stults) Lyon of Redmond died at a local care facility in Prineville on Wednesday. She was 88.

The graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Redmond Memorial cemetery in Redmond. Pastor Neil Mason will officiate. Interment will follow the service.

Mrs. Lyon was born April 18, 1913, in Hilgard, to Clyde and Bessie (Hagey) Stults. She lived in Jordan Valley most of her life and attended school there.

She married Glen Lyon on Dec. 17, 1932, in Vale. He died in 1982.

Mrs. Lyon worked for several years as a grocery clerk in Redmond.

Survivors include her son, Robert of Jacksonville; and two sisters, Helen Fralen of Marcing, Idaho and Gwendolyn Griffin of Ontario.

She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers and one son.

Redmond Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Wilma C. (Gum) Leonard
March 4, 1922 - May 15, 2001

Wilma C. (Gum) Leonard of Prineville died of natural causes May 15. She was 79.

Mrs. Leonard was born March 4, 1922, in Sacramento, Calif., to Perry and Lilly (Rusch) Gum. She grew up and attended school in Fair Oaks, Calif., graduating from high school in San Juan, Calif. She then attended business school for two years.

She retired from National Bank of Washington.

She first married Al Alspholm. She later married Paul Leonard.

Mrs. Leonard lived in several communities in Washington and Oregon.

She enjoyed genealogy, writing biographies, treasure hunting and gardening.

Survivors include two brothers, Irving Gum of Fair Oaks, Calif., and Glen Gum of Citrus Heights, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and one son, Tom Alspholm.

Prineville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ronnie Knotts
Jan. 6, 1947 - May 25, 2001

Ronnie Knotts of Lowell died of cancer May 25. He was 54.

The memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Lowell Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses.

Mr. Knotts was born Jan. 6, 1947, in St. Louis, to W. Everett and Hester (Foresyth) Knotts. He graduated from high school and served in the Marines.

He married Sue Holyfield on Nov. 1, 1969, in Winnemucca, Nev.

Mr. Knott worked for Gilchrist Timber Co. for 20 years, and for the past 11 years worked for a janitorial business.

He was an elder in the Lowell congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses.

Mr. Knott enjoyed anything related to airplanes and flying his remote control plane. He also enjoyed floating his boat down the river and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Michael of Eugene and Justin of Lowell; one daughter, Cynde Long of Jasper; two brothers, Hershel of La Pine and Michael of Cottage Grove; two sisters, 'Jeris Ann' DeSoto of Lemore, Calif., and Pamela Blackwood of Dexter; and three grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to McKenzie-Willamette Hospice.

Telophase Cremation Services of Eugene is in charge of arrangements.
