Dean D. Daugherty
Nov. 6, 1929 - Nov. 24, 2003

Dean D. Daugherty of Black Butte Ranch died Monday, Nov. 24, of natural causes. He was 74.

A funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, at Deschutes Memorial Gardens Chapel in Bend.

Mr. Daugherty was born Nov. 6, 1929, in St. Paul, Minn., to Dale and Evelyn Daugherty. He was a graduate of Oregon State University.

Mr. Daugherty served in the Navy during the Korean War. He married Pauline Simmons on Dec. 28, 1974, in Black Butte Ranch.

Mr. Daugherty was a professional golfer and taught golf in Idaho, Montana and Oregon.

Survivors include his wife of Black Butte Ranch; and two daughters, Suzanne Fierling of Eugene and Jeanine Nicoll of Bend.

He was preceded in death by a stepson.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Central Oregon, 61170 SE 27th St., Bend 97702.

Deschutes Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Edward 'Fast Eddie' Lee Sutphin
June 15, 1936 - Nov. 24, 2003

Edward "Fast Eddie" Lee Sutphin of Redmond died Monday of cancer. He was 67.

A private service will be held.

Mr. Sutphin was born June 15, 1936, in Sedro-Woolley, Wash., to Baily and Lita (Shields) Monroe. He was raised in Coquille and the Coos Bay area.

He served in the Army during the Korean War.

Mr. Sutphin worked as a commercial truck driver, driving long-haul and logging trucks. He was also a heavy equipment operator.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with friends and family.

Survivors include his companion, Lila Shook of Redmond; five sons, Patrick of Powers, Michael of Coos Bay, and Brett, Darin and Benjamin, all of Redmond; two daughters, Becky of Coquille and Brenda of Powers; three sisters, Faye and Dee, both of Salem, and Jerri O'Neil of Hillsboro; and 12 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Evelyn Louise Terry
April 2, 1922 - Nov. 26, 2003

Evelyn Louise Terry of Terrebonne died Wednesday, Nov. 26, of natural causes. She was 81.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, at Smith Rock Community Church in Terrebonne.

Mrs. Terry was born April 2, 1922, in Wheatland to William and Lula (Westfall) Magness. She graduated from high school in Amity.

She married Ocus Terry in 1954 in Vancouver, Wash.

Mrs. Terry was a homemaker. She moved in 1949 to Culver to farm and moved in 1971 to Terrebonne. She was a member of the Yamhill Historical Society, the Ladies Pioneer Club of Terrebonne and Smith Rock Community Church.

Mrs. Terry enjoyed hunting, fishing, church work and spending time with her family.

Survivors include her son, Roger Tompkins of Redwood City, Calif; a daughter, Carol Fraser of Terrebonne; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and a sister.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Smith Rock Community Church Building Fund.

Jerry Edward Johnston
Feb. 2, 1937 - Nov. 25, 2003

Jerry Edward Johnston of La Pine died Tuesday, Nov. 25, of natural causes. He was 66.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, at La Pine Christian Center.

Mr. Johnston was born Feb. 2, 1937, in Chadron, Neb., to James and Viva (Roberts) Johnston. He married Donna (Mayfield) Johnston on May 8, 1959, in Bend.

He served in the Navy.

Mr. Johnston moved to Gilchrist in 1960 and to La Pine in 1994. He worked as a groundskeeper for Gilchrist Timber and Ernst Bros. Corp.

He was a member of the Lodgepole Dodgers Snowmobile Club and the bowling association in Gilchrist.

His hobbies included bowling, snowmobiling, fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed dirt biking, camping and traveling.

Survivors include his wife of La Pine; a son, Jeff of Knoxville, Tenn.; three daughters, Tracy Tee of Moore, Okla., Terri Contreras of Gresham and Tammy Greene of Stafford, Va.; his mother of La Pine; two brothers, Marvin of Crescent and James of Portland; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Bend-La Pine; 2075 NE Wyatt Court, Bend 97701.

Harvey Richard Olsen
Aug. 7, 1913 - Jan. 26, 2004

Harvey Richard Olsen of Bend died Monday of natural causes. He was 90.

A private service will be held.

Mr. Olsen was born Aug. 7, 1913, in Bloomfield, Neb., to John and Linda (Greckel) Olsen. He married Margaret Van Brocklin in 1938 in Creighton, Neb.

During World War II he worked at the Kaiser Shipyards in Vancouver, Wash. After the war Mr. Olsen worked for the Oregon Journal. He moved to Bend in 1947 and continued to work for the Journal as circulation manager for Central and Eastern Oregon. Years later he was circulation manager for The Bulletin and the Central Oregon Mid-Statesman.

Mr. Olsen also had a career in the real estate industry during the late 1950s through the 1970s. He was a founding member of the Central Oregon Multiple Listing Service in Bend and served as first elected secretary for several years. He was broker and partner in Olsen/Barlow Realty in Bend. Mr. Olsen was the first resident broker of Sunriver and the Inn of the Seventh Mountain developments.

After he retired he continued to work in property management and taught real estate courses for the Century 21 franchise and later as an associate professor at Central Oregon Community College.

Mr. Olsen was a member of the first City of Bend Planning Commission and was a volunteer for the annual Bend Water Pageant. Mr. Olsen was affiliated with the Bend Rotary Club, The Sons of Norway and the Boy Scouts of America. He received the Silver Beaver Award for his work in the scouting community.

Survivors include his four sons, Bill, David, John and Richard; a daughter, Karen; a sister, Lottie Parrell; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and a brother.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis of Assisi School Fund or Hospice of Bend-La Pine.

Eudean Ruby Sorensen
Aug. 9, 1920 - Jan. 23, 2004

Eudean Ruby Sorensen of Bend died Jan. 23 of natural causes. She was 83.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Feb. 6 at Deschutes Memorial Chapel in Bend.

Mrs. Sorensen was born Aug. 9, 1920, in Eldorado, Okla., to Jesse and Margarete (Chenault) Bates. She married John Sorensen on April 20, 1947, in Las Vegas.

She owned Eudean Beauty Bar in Southern California. She retired in 1975.

Mrs. Sorensen was affiliated with the Fraternal Order of Eagles ladies auxiliary Aeries #2089. She enjoyed playing bridge and poker.

Survivors include her sister, Joanna Nichols Zimmerman of Bend.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, six brothers and a sister.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Gunther F. Neumann
Nov. 1, 1929 - Jan. 24, 2004

Gunther F. Neumann of Bend died Jan. 24 of natural causes. He was 74.

No service will be held.

Mr. Neumann was born Nov. 1, 1929, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Adolf and Frieda (Schiemann) Neumann. He married Frances Meyer in 1954 in New Jersey.

He was a machinist before working for the World Wide Church of God in administration.

Mr. Neumann enjoyed spending time with people and ministering.

Survivors include his son Karl of Eugene; three daughters, Barbara Hess and Carol Ingallinera, both of Bend, and Ruth Howard of Lansing, Mich.; a brother, Robert of Bossier City, La.; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his companion and parents.

Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Justin Nicholas Peterson
Jan. 3, 2004 - Jan. 23, 2004

Justin Nicholas Peterson of Bend died Jan. 23 of complications from heart surgery. He was 20 days old.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, at the Church of Christ in Bend. A graveside service will follow at 11:30 a.m. at Redmond Memorial cemetery. A celebration of life will then be held from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Peterson residence, 65072 92nd St., in Bend.

Justin was born Jan. 3, 2004, in Bend to Larry and Debra Peterson.

He is survived by his parents; a brother, Zachary of Bend; a sister, Lindsay of Bend; his grandparents, Clifford and Katherine Dunn of Bend and Dennis and Marlys Peterson of Hubbard; and his great-grandmothers, Elsie Peterson of Hubbard and Juliet Griffin of Redmond.

Memorial contributions may be made to Ronald McDonald House or Legacy Emanuel Children's Hospital.
